Speedfan temp

Just installed speedfan ver.4.23, havent configured it yet. My question is on the 1st tab(readings)its shows fan01 and fan02. The temps are what worry me.
fan01: 2614rpm
fan02: 2997 rpm
I have the"automatic fan speed" box checked.
The temperatures read like this:
Ambient: 35 celcius
Remote 1: 28 celcius
Remote 2: 115 celcius            (this one worries me why so high?, I felt around my case and it cool)
HDO: 37 celcius
Should I worry bout the remote2's temp and also how can i tell what each temp is for cpu, case, hd ect...
 Oh sorry my specs are:
 its the emachine T6212
amd 64 3200 939 winnie
ati express 200 with igp
2x256 samsung, 2x256 ocz pc3200 dual channell
seagate 160gb hd ata/100 7200 rpm
Hope this post makes sense. I read the help section on speedfan, but couldnt figure out what each temp was for
                                                                                  thanks for all the help,
                                                                                   Stuart

thanks for the response jimcpl, I did what you suggested(made it so cpu usage was at 100%) and i believe remote 1 is the cpu cause it rose from 28 to 35. Now the remote2 did rise also but only by 2.So I think you are right about that, that its unconnected or unterminated. I read that also, right after I posted question(sorry bout that).I think hdo is the hard drive and maybe ambient is the igp? cause it has same bus name(atil gp...) as remote 1 and 2. What do you think? Now I have to decide if I want to let speedfan control the cool and quiet. I have power option in control panel set to minimal power and while Idleing it goes down to 986ghz. So its is working on its own. Speedfan shows fans running at fan1: 2560 and fan2: 2997. Is that to fast for idling? Hope you dont mind me asking you you opinion.
                                                              thanks

  • Newb question: can anyone tell me what these Speedfan temps mean???

I just built my first PC (P6N SLI-FI board and Core 2 Duo 6420 chip) and I've got a few questions about cooling (I'm using the stock cooler and the thermal paste that came with the chip):
    1.  I installed Speedfan, but I'm not sure what each temp refers to.  After having the machine run Windows XP for a minute or two, here are my approximate readings (all in degrees Celsius, obviously):
    Temp1= 23
    Temp2= 30
Temp3= 145 (I think this is an error due to lack of a sensor)
    HD0 = 23
    Core0 = 23
    Core1 = 23
After playing Neverwinter Nights 2 for about an hour, Temp2 reaches about 45 (all of the other readings are lower, somewhere in the 30s I think, but I can't remember for sure).
    2.  I'm going to be using my computer mostly for gaming.  What temps should I try to stay below?  Should I think about using Artic Silver 5?  (I really wanted to use it when I put the machine together, but I wimped out because I was worried about voiding the warranty with Intel  )

Thanks for the info.  So, none of the temperatures I've listed represent the ambient temperature?  How do I find out what the ambient temperature is?
The temp in my house was probably about 70F (I didn't actually check at the time) when I measured those temperatures and yes core0 and core1 were roughly 23C.  Again, I only had the computer on for a minute or two when I checked SpeedFan.
Sorry for the delay in responding to your question!
As far as case temperature, I've gone as far as suspending a household thermometer in the vicinity of the HS fan.
Fact: It is impossible for any air-cooling solution to cool the processor below the temperature of the intake airflow. Air cooling solutions, as well as liquid cooling solutions, rely on convection (+conduction and radiation) to transfer the heat off of the CPU. The amount of heat the air mass/flow can absorb is limited by the temperature of the air mass, volume and partial pressure across the heatsink(s). Except for the short time the HS is transitioning from a cooler, non-operational state, where the HS may be cooler than the incoming airflow caused by a newly started system, to the operational state with both case temperature and CPU temperature increasing, the temperature of the HS will always be above the temperature of the surrounding air.
So, given a 70F/21C room temp, you should expect the 'system' (mobo) and core temperatures to be at or probably slightly above 21C if you check Hardware Monitor in BIOS immediately and as much as 10 - 15 degrees C higher by the time you check them in the OS. Again, those figures may be lower or higher by a few degrees depending on the HS/HSF used.
Remember, when evaluating operating temps, always use the delta between case temperature and core temperature (or whichever system temp) rather than the temperature in question on its own. Say you are given two systems that use all the same components except the cooling solution. System A uses air-cooling solution 'Ace' and has a case temperature of 38C with core temps of 43C on each core, while System B uses cooling solution 'Best' and has a case temperature of 23C and core temps of 34C. Which is the better solution?
    The answer is probably TEC.

  • Speedfan Temp cpu/sys

    hi all
im new for this forum, but im not a real newb.. eheh..
i tried the setup for the speedfan.... quite fun to know.. but really strange...
    thermistor diode : cpu : idle: 26°C   load (prime95) 48°C
sys : ~37-38 (quite hot for my config)
    PIIdiode : cpu idle : 38°C load 42°C
                    sys : 128°C
ok.. lets talk about my fan config... i got an x-gear case so i got a side panel fan intake... i change the fan for a better one and put a tube to get the air directly to the cpu fan (about less than half inch tube-cpufan), i strong 80 mm fan on the back panel.. i already cut the case's grill infront the fan its a intake to (blow inside case) i got a slot fan under my vid card (2 pci slot lower) and a top fan on the top of the case.. i got a psu double fan (aerocool) so its another "outtake" fan over my cpu heatsink...  i got 2 hdd ... its  a good hot point :P
So what is the trouble??i found 42° a lil low for load temp.. but 26° really low for an idle.. in a 37° case...37 isnt hot for my fan config?
    Thx

Look at my signature for the level of detail people want to see in order to help you.  Make up a similar signature and that way the info will always be displayed.
I am running a similar configuration to you and I found when I went to AMI 3.3 my temperatures as reported by speedfan and corecenter dropped 10C. I am suspicious of these numbers because my case heat sensors of it's own and it reports higher. If you use corecenter it seems to report about 3-4C higher than speedfan.
I guess as long as you are not overheating, the values reported can be viewed as a cohesive set and you can monitor and set fan speeds based upon changes.Thats what I do.
My case has a lot of fans (7) and as a result maybe our numbers don't quite compare, but what I see is about like this:
Idle: 19-40C depending upon room temperature and how long the system has been running.
loaded: 48-55C and the fans start cranking when this happens.
My case (system?) temperature never is as hot as the CPU.
Finally...let me restate...I distrust the numbers ever since I went to AMI 3.3, but even before then I never saw the CPU go over 65C and I wrote Intel support and they told me that prescott temperatures were within spec as long as it was under 69C.
I don't think this answered your question, but maybe this will help.

  • SpeedFan Temp. Readings, 865PE LS

    Hi guys,
I installed SpeedFan today and I was wondering which readings correspond to what.
I know that FAN 1 is the CPU and FAN 2 is the NB, and TEMP 1 is CPU. Which one is system temperature? TEMP 2 or TEMP 3.
    I'm getting CPU Temp 29ºC
    TEMP 2 = 27 C
    TEMP 3 = 49 C
I'm thinking temp 2 is system temperature because it's closest to cpu temp, and temp 3 is SUPPOSEDLY the NB. Am i right?
    Thanks,

    ur right

  • MDM temp and Speedfan Temp

I have a wierd thing going on, and I don't know which one to believe.   my specs below. after OC 2.4c to 3.21 my temps are the same
    everything Runs fine but....
    MDM shows my temps as
    idel
    CPU: 31
    case: 27
    load
    CPU 45
    case: 30
    and Speedfan show
    idel
    Cpu: 65
    case: 27
    load
    Cpu: 80!!!
    case: 27
who should I believe.  Did anyone else see this kind of a problem???

Sounds like the sensors aren't set correctly for one of the programs. The link in my signature will give you the SpeedFan settings.

  • Speedfan and CPUID both show 10v on the 12v line.

The Bios shows 12v or close to it.   Is there something wrong with the way  those programs are interpreting the sensor?
      P55-cd53 here.
Anyone else see this bad reading?
Speedfan temps are also not  right.

It's a software error on the part of Speedfan or you have it configured to read the wrong sensor.  Most likely, the program will need an update for it to read the sensor correctly.  If the bios shows 12V, then you are fine. In fact, your machine wouldn't be running if the 12V line was really only 10V.  I would just keep checking for updates to Speedfan.
You can try other software to check temps and voltages--such as HW monitor, Everest, Coretemp.

  • CPU Temp Question: 865PE Neo 2

Hi folks, I'm fairly new to this forum but hopefully you can help me with a little problem:
I just built a new comp about 2 months ago with all the parts listed below.  I read through the forums here as I was building it and became aware of the Speedfan prog.  I got the machine up and running with Speedfan installed and everything seemed to be fine although I was really only checking the Speedfan temps every once in a while.  About 1 week ago I was experiencing a lot of crashes when the CPU was under load (I mainly use the comp for recording music with the Pro Tools program which is very hard on the CPU).  I checked Speedfan and it read the CPU as 60 degrees with a little flame symbol.  Concerned, I turned off the machine and had a look at the CPU.  When I removed the heatsink and fan the thermal compound seemed dry and flaky so I cleaned it all off with some acetone and just reapplied some new Antec Silver Thermal yesterday.  It seemed to be going fine CPU at 30-35 degrees at idle (btw I am using the standard Intel fan) but I was concerned that there may be some damage done to the CPU so I tried out the Hot CPU Tester program (not sure if anyone is aware of this).  As the prog began to run the diagnostic tests Speedfan CPU temp shot up to 55 degrees again and the flame symbol stayed on.  I'm not really sure what to do now....  The D.O.T is set at the default 'Seargent' and I have MAT set at turbo.
Is it possible these temps are accurate and if so is it safe to run the comp like this.  If not what should I do.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am completly stumped and very concerned.

first ! let me say that a idle temp @ 30 -35 deg is execellent for a preshot and so is the load temps, artic silvers [thermal properties} does get better with age.
second !the flame [speedfan] icons range can be set to your desired warning zone,i have had speedfan lockup scanning the smbus while running in the background, caught it and ctrl/alt/del stoped it,prob would have caused a restart, see if running cpu task without speedfan you suffer a restart!
i doubt you have damaged your cpu.

  • Once and for all: MS-7125 Neo4 Platinum NB temperature sensing

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to shut my MS-7125 Neo4 Platinum NB fan up.  My XFX 6800GT vid card prevents me from using the blue Zalman passive cooler, unless I bend or remove its fans, which I haven't gotten around to.  So I'm looking for alternatives, one of which is simply undervolting the stock fan, after cleaning the interface between chip and heatsink and applying Arctic Silver 5.
Of course, to make that workable, I need a reliable temperature reading for the Northbridge chip.  Many posters have suggested that "Fan1" in Speedfan is the NB on the MS-7125.  However, I saw one thread (will edit and link it later) that suggested that that reading is actually for the Winbond chip closer to the corner of the board, not the actual NB.  If that's the case, then I don't really know what temp the NB is at, and I don't feel safe undervolting its fan.
So which is it?  Once and for all!
    Thanks in advance!
    best,
    Ryan

g2006, Be careful when interpreting statement given to you by tecnicians.
I know: I had to post a screen cap to convince him that CoreCenter didn't have a NB fan speed control slider. In fact, like many newbies, he thought the nb fan alarm slider was the nb fan speed controller. It's after pointing these stuff that I got the info that there wasn't a temp sensor on the nf4 chip. I kept asking and correcting his misconception until, I assume, when he saw that he didn't know about this particular board, and might have asked the right questions to the source. The later answers were more informed, less conceited; might have been a different person altogether. But of course I might have misassumed (is that a word    )
But as you said, they still recommended to RMA...

try this. 1- Unplug your MSI Fan and see what happens to your SYS/NB temp, your should see a 2-3 deg C increase at idle and aa 6-8 deg C at load.
When I get a way to physically control the speed (rheostat), I'll take time to do lower the speed to see how it affects the speedfan temp for the "sys" monitor.
I'll try to check also were this "system" temp sensor is supposed to be placed, according to some here and there on some forums, and test briefly with a hair blower or something more accurate to check those allegations.
What made me dismiss altogether the "system temp" as being the nf4 temp sensor is some people on boards (here and elsewhere), using the zalman nb47j, reporting that it was getting quite hot to the touch, but with speedfan reporting the sys temp as low (35-40c) nonetheless; but of course this is relying on others, I should test this somehow myself...

2- Install speedfan on your computer  and  use its manual fan speed control features to slow or shut down the fan that registers around 5200 - 5400 rpm.
I do use speedfan. The 7125 nf4 fan registers around 7300rpm ( ) on speedfan and corecenter.
Both speedfan and corecenter can monitor and modify cpu fan speed.
In fact, in the Manual itself, p. 2-16 (about the connectors) it says explicitely that the CPUFAN1 supports fan control; it doesn't mention this capacity for the other connectors, which is a good indicator that only CPUFAN1 has it.
NF4 fan is connected to NBFAN1 connector; I have another fan connected to SFAN1 connector, which also has a speed sensor according to the manual; but again, no impact on fan speed using speedfan... and none promised, if one reads the manual: only the CPU fan is actually said to be speed controllable.

Do you have Cool & Quiet activated?
CnQ is CPU centered, at least reading from the manual. I don't know about the Neo2 that you have, maybe you have more options on this, but the manual for 7125 is explicit on this (p. 3-26, for those who have the manual).
I also would like others' views/experiences on this.

You need an Intel Chipset based mainboard to use ViiV.  Your board has an NVidia chipset.
ViiV Support is indicated by this label:

Dual Core Center is famous for doing stuff like that. De-Install it and don't look back.
    Better tools for system monitoring:
    - Core Temp (CPU Core Temps only)
    - Speedfan (temps, voltages, fan speeds

  • North Bridge Temp by SpeedFan 4.09

I tried using MBM to check my temperatures but it seemed to give me wrong readings.  Now I am using SpeedFan 4.09 to check my temperatures.
    Question:
    1.  I believe NB in SpeedFan stands for North Bridge.  Is that correct?
    2.  Is this temperature for the my board being measured correctly?  Read from some other posts that sometimes the temperature measured maybe wrong.
    3.  If correct, how can I cool down my North Bridge?  For CPU, we have the HSF.  For the system, we have intake and exhaust fans.
    My correct temperature readings:
    1. CPU: 39.5 to 48.0, average 40.5 deg C
    2. System: 42 to 45, average = 42.9 deg C
    2. NB: 51 to 53.5, average = 52.2 deg C
    Thanks.

    This is very interesting.
I turned my 12 cm ball bearings fan for the front to become an exhaust fan.  So my system is now with 2 pieces of 12 com ball bearing fans, no intake fan.
After doing some normal light work and copying of huge files from my system to my external usb 2 hard disk (noticed before that the temp goes up when I do this), the temperature is still very nice.  Here's the temp:
    1. CPU: 32 to 42.0, Mean 40 deg C
    2. System: 31 to 40, Mean = 38.9 deg C
    2. NB: 53 to 57, Mean = 53.7 deg C
My cpu and system temp are now almost the same.  The next best thing is that the system is much cooler now, by about 4 deg C.

  • Speedfan shows 225 degrees for mainboard temp

Just installed speedfan and was shocked to see the temp reading for the mainboard was 225 degrees celsius .. are they kidding and this is some sort of error ? shouldnt there be some smoke coming from the board  fromtaht kind of temperature? I juz flashed the bios to the latest 3.5 from 3.4.. which did raise my bios cpu temp by 10 over degrees celsius but the mainboard temp reading is quite scary.... anyone knows what is goin on?

speedfan comes with a readme,it will take a little time to configure it,but worth the effort as it scans your hardware as so it can use there reporting utilitys,if you have to compare it with your bios readings.they should be close

  • SpeedFan doesn't see K8NGM2-NBP temps/speeds

This new build is working fine except that I can't get SpeedFan (4.28) to see hardware sensors except the HD.  The temp/speed/voltage values are reported in bios and also in MSI's utility and the bios smartfan control seems to work fine.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion, but the current beta didn't work for me.  I did use the test feature to send info to the author so maybe he will respond with a suggestion.  Until then, I am using nTune's monitor.  I'm surprised that SpeedFan doesn't seem to work with this board because the K8NGM2-FID is listed on its website as allowing fan control (and presumably hardware monitoring).

I think speedfan reads well my GPU's temperature, 39ºC in 2d mode, the same that I had saw in 3d turbo experience.

  • Lower temp read with Speedfan!

Based on recommendations from other users, I downloaded Speedfan. With both Corecenter & speedfan running, the CPU temp display from speedfan is typically 2-3 degrees C lower.  The displayed system temp is the same. Has anyone else experienced this?

The are mathematical calculations of a voltage read from a diode. The diode is temperature sensitive. CoreCenter seems to be using a different calculation that either SpeedFan or Motherboard Monitor. The key thing is neither may be accurate, but they are consistant. Use one program, when the temp. deviates from normal with no good reason (for instance jumps to 50C when you are browsing the web) investigate why.

  • Increasing Temp Reading in Speedfan for Temp1

I noticed that Speedfan reading is increasing for the Temp1 of my mobo.  A few weeks ago, it was as low as 5 degrees celsius, yesterday it was 37, two days before that it was 33, now it's 43.  What could be causing this?
The Image Above:  I'm pretty sure that Temp2 is CPU since it's the one that increases when there's high CPU load.
Edit: I just tried Speedfan 4.23 and the results are the same.
