Speeding up display of webtemplates

Hello group,
We've been trough all kinds of trouble to speed up our queries. We've made several datamodel changes and now have queries that show us data with transaction RSRT in a few seconds.
But when such a query is used in a webtemplate the display of data on the screen takes much longer than a few seconds. Generating html with a long list takes long. Compression of html should be active. We f.i. don't need a linking possibility for all figures. Is it possible to do anything to reduce the time it takes for a html of a webtemplate to be generated?
Regards, Léon

hi Leon,
there is doc 'How To Optimize Network Traffic in EP6.0',
it's for EP but i think lots of info maybe useful, please check ...
the idea is to reduce the html page size, white space and comment ..... i see for bw webtemplate if we 'view source' the character seems 'compressed' already, but still white spaces there ...maybe check client http compression also....
doc bw 'frontend performance' may also useful if you haven't read it ......
JavaScript and CSS files usually contain many comments and much white space in order to make it easier to read for developers. End users don’t need the comments or white space, so it is best to remove them and reduce file size by half or even more, resulting in faster downloads to the clients.
5.1 Setting the Browser for Compression Most newer browsers (since 1998) support the HTTP 1.1 standard known as "content-encoding". Essentially, the browser indicates to the server that it can accept "content-encoding" and, if the server is capable, the server compresses the data and transmits it. The browser decompresses the data and renders the page. Only HTTP 1.1-compliant clients request compressed files. Clients that are not HTTP 1.1-compliant request and receive the files uncompressed and do not benefit from the improved download times of HTTP 1.1-compliant compression. Internet Explorer versions 4 and above, Netscape 4.5 and above, and Windows Explorer are all HTTP 1.1-compliant clients. When using the Microsoft Internet Explorer, you must activate the HTTP 1.1 setting in order for portal compression to work. To set the compression in Microsoft Internet Explorer: 1. From the client browser menu bar, select Tools Internet Options. 2. Choose the Advanced tab and scroll to HTTP 1.1 settings. 3. Make sure the Use HTTP 1.1 checkbox is selected. 4. If your network operates with a proxy server, verify that Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections is also selected. 5. Click OK.

  • Speeding up displaying 1000s of rows of db query results in JSP

I am working on a report that formats and displays thousands of rows from the result set. Although the query itself takes only 1 sec, a lot of time (15 secs) is spent formatting for JSP and serving it back to the browser.
Is there an efficient way of speeding this up? Increasing page buffer size didn't seem to help. <%@ page buffer="64kb" %>
    Thanks

Increasing page buffer size didn't seem to help. <%@
page buffer="64kb" %>The container starts writing out the html when the buffer is full.
So, increasing the buffer size will further delay the appearance of the page in the browser.
If by formatting the page, you mean sorting/re-arranging data, you could push that into the database by using a stored procedure.
@mshanu: What exactly do you expect to achieve by adding an extra step of converting to xml?

  • Help: Crappy font display in Acrobat 9, Windows 7 x64

I have build a new Windows 7 x64 machine. Nice and fast.
Unfortunately, Adobe Acrobat 9.2 is playing up. The fonts in a number of PDFs from different sources do not display correctly; the letters are far too thin and coarsely pixelated. The same files show up correctly on my Vista x64 machine with the same version of Adobe Acrobat.
I wonder what this problem is and if there is anything I can do either in Acrobat or on the system side to get this straightened out
I am enclosing two small files entitled Right.jpg and Wrong.jpg that illustrate nicely what I mean.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Per

    Go to Edit\Preference\General...
Or you can just press ctrl + k.
    Click on Page display.
Ensure "Smooth Text" is NOT set to "none". So if you have an LCD , set it to "For Laptop/LCD screens".
Ensure that the other check boxes such as "smooth line art", "smooth images" are checked.
You may want to experiement with "Use 2D graphics Accelleration". Turning on can speed up display but can cause some strange effects (such as curves being rendered as a series of short straight lines. Some things look better with it turned off.

  • Flash Speed in Captivate

I am trying to help out a friend with a captivate project. He
has inserted a swf file within his captivate project and it seems
to keep running at double the speed its displaying in flash, any
    ideas?

    Hi there
It's best to keep in mind that Flash creates animations using
a default frame rate of 12 Frames Per Second (FPS).
Captivate's default FPS setting is 30 FPS.
You want a closer match. So they have two options.
    1. Reduce the Captivate FPS setting (Edit > Preferences
    > Project node)
    2. Increase the Flash FPS setting and create the animation
again. Drop the new SWF in Captivate
Option 2 is better because option 1 can affect other things
    with your Captivate project.
    Cheers... Rick

  • View Theoretical and Real Connection Speeds

    Hi,
I hate to start off like this, but: In Windows, when connected to a network-either wireless or wired-in the lower right hand task bar a theoretical connection speed is displayed. For example, 54 Mbps or 1000 mbps (gigabit), etc... However, I find Apple just shows you are connected, which I prefer, but is there some place I can check the theoretical speed. For instance, sometimes I want to ensure my gigabit connection is correct, or that I am using wireless-n or g, etc...
Also, anyway to get an actual readout of the speed? Perhaps based on distance, interference, etc... and it could roughly estimate what the connection is at...
    Thank you,
    TM

Sorry Thomas and doogald for not giving you the "solved" credit. Thank you both for answering part answer of my question but I wanted to mark the "solved" area containing both answers.
    1) For actual internet and network stats: see Thomas's first post (with external link) and doogald's post.
    2) For theoretical connection stat: Open Network Utility -> select the "Network Interface (enX)" drop down menu to select which connection you want to see stats on. Each drop down is either your wired, wireless, etc... Then under "Link Speed" your theoretical will be displayed.
    Thank you all,

  • CS3 write speed

    Greetings,
I have been using cs3 and vista64 home premium now for awhile with few to no problems. I just purchased a replacement external dvd burner (LG 20X) for my failing plextor 16x.
When using my replaced plextor, I believe it burned at the max speed but only displayed "8X" in the speed indicator box. My internal writer speed is displayed correctly at 6x (I think, I have not checked for sure.)
Now after replacing with the new LG20, there is no displayed speed at all. The internal displays as before. I believe the new external is writing at max speed, without emperical testing. The most disturbing aspect of the situation is no longer having the ability to select slower burn speeds with the external LG20. Anyone have this problem? TIA Dennis - Iowa

    Neil,
Thanks for the reply. I do use 16x TY printable disks. The LG20 states it writes 20x to 16x disks. I don't recall seeing any actual 20x printable TY disks.
One other issue I have run into with CS3 is what evidently Encore considers "smurfed" files. I had never before had a file not burn and cause Encore to stop working and close. I had one during the first few CS3 sessions and just removed it from the project. Then the next session I had 2 more files rejected. Then after a few more sessions I have had one more rejected. In each case I just removed from the project and it completed. I have not seen any similar posts on message boards with this issue. I have not attempted to burn these smurfed files in different projects. What do you think? Dennis - Iowa

  • Random call to 911 and other issues

(Yes, mods I did search the boards for this issue and I didn't see it. Most people want to know how to call 911. I want to know how to stop my phone from doing it by itself!)
Hello, I'm a brand new Verizon customer and was so excited to switch carriers and pick up a new smart phone!
Now I'm not so excited to be a verizon customer with a new smart phone.
Last night I went to use my Samsung charge and of course, it was locked up (again). All the icons were inoperable and the screen was frozen. So, for at least the 5th time of the day, I had to remove and replace the battery and wait for the phone to reboot.
Within a few minutes, I received a call from a number I didn't recognize and the man on the other end identified himself as a county sheriff. He said they received a 911 hang up and it came from my number! I was so confused because I'd done no such thing. He said it was the departments policy to followup and make sure I was okay. I tried to assure him that I was okay, that my phone had been sitting on the table and I had NOT called 911. He then insisted that I give him my address so he could come over to make sure I was okay. Then I got scared....Really really scared since my husband was not home and I was alone and the call seemed so bizarre.  I refused to give him any more information, told him I didn't believe him and hung up. I checked my call log and it didn't show any call to 911.
I was freaked out, so I called my city's non emergency police line and and city officer called me back. I told him what happened and he decided to call the number and call me back. A few minutes later he did.
It turns out that it really WAS a county sheriff and apparently my phone had made a random call to 911 and pinged a tower on the other end of the valley!
I've learned to live with pulling and replacing the battery multiple times per day. I've learned to live with the lack of battery life. I've learned to live with not having workable bluetooth.
After owning this phone for about 4 months, I already hated it for all the glitches and issues it has but now I am very very very alarmed that my phone makes random calls to 911 and hangs up !! You can be issued a citation and fined ! This I will not live with!!
Verizon, is this the phone causing this?  Is it something in your network? How do I stop this from happening again?? This was extremely stressful for me and I can't have it continue to happen!

    Hi GoDaisy,
I can definitely understand your frustration regarding the scenario with the sheriff's office contacting you about a 911 call! I have completed some troubleshooting with the Charge, as I use this device myself. With this phone, if you create an additional lock with either a passcode or a pattern that has to be entered, there is a button on the bottom of the phone that says "Emergency Call." If this button is pressed, a 911 call, or any number that has been entered as the emergency number, is able to be dialed.
I see that you mentioned that you were in the middle of resetting the device because the screen was frozen. Do you recall if the screen was frozen on the lock screen when this happened? If so, you may have inadvertently pressed the button for the emergency call.
If you do not have a lock pattern or a pin code set up for the device, the standard lock (where you connect the puzzle piece) is the default. This screen does not have an option for an emergency call. If you have the additional lock screen set up on the device, you could remove it and set up a different number for the emergency call.
You also have the option of downloading a free application from the Android Market called "ICE," or "In Case of Emergency." You can set up this application with your own personal preferences. Press the Market icon and use ICE as a keyword search.
Below I have provided the steps on how to remove the lock code/pattern for you, if needed.
    Removing the lock code/pattern:
Press "Applications" icon from main screen
    Press "Settings"
    Press "Location & Security"
    Press "Change Screen Lock"
Confirm your current unlock code or pattern by entering it
    Press "None"
To set up an emergency call, you can simply program the number as a contact, and then save the number as a speed dial.
    Assigning Speed Dials
    1. From the Home screen, touch Contacts.
    2. Press the Menu Key, then touch More-> Speed dial.
    3. A list of speed dials displays.Touch a speed dial, then touch a contact to assign the contact to the speed dial.
Please let us know if you are still having issues with your phone locking up and having to re-boot it by removing the battery. Do you notice any pattern about when this happens? Are you performing any specific function when the screen freezes?
Additionally, I want to clarify that any calls to 911 are not listed in your call records online or on your bill due to the fact that these calls are free. Your statement only shows billable calls, so this is the reason you do not see the call in the call log.
I hope this information is helpful for you. Please post back with any findings or results.
    Thanks very much,

  • Running a LV program from a second LV program?

I have a LV program that controls a pump. Basicly, the pump speed is set and the pressure is measured, but the program is quite large. This program is complete and will be delivered with the pump to customers.
Now to the problem: I have another LV program that I would like to integrate the pump program with. I would like to set the pump speed and display the pressure on the second programs Front Panel.
Any suggestions on how to do this without making too much changes (preferably none) to the pump program?

    Two options come to mind:
    1. Treat the pump control program like a driver where you call the pump control vi as subvi's
    2. Call the control program dynamically, you should be able to use any program as a dynamic vi
The only changes (depending on your architecture for the control program) might be that you will have to make the settable controls inputs to the vi so that calling program can pass values the the control program through a wire.
I am not sure how you approached this problem but I would first have written a driver where each vi represents a discrete function like set SetPumpSpeed, GetPumpPressure, OpenPumpConnection, ClosePumpConnection (how do you communicate with the pump).  The I would provide a "Soft panel" which is just a vi to allow the basic or even full control of the pump.  When I want to use the pump in a large scale application I would call the pump driver subvi's directly.

  • About PDF Portfolio layouts in Acrobat X

I would like to know if Adobe would release layout that is less cost CPU?
I found myself that the latest PDF portfolio is TOO sophisticated for my computer + I need / use more simple PDF Portfolio layout which release in version 8 & 9, especially "• List with File Preview: Adds quick previews to List View "
    OR
could someone tell me how could I install the layouts of ver. 9 into ver. X?
    Thanks

At this time I can't say if there'll be "in-product" additional layouts, but we gained some extras for Acrobat 9 in the mid-cycle patch and there's no reason why the same thing can't happen again.
AcrobatUsers.com is also hosting a Portfolio Exchange where users can contribute their own templates, layouts and themes. Right now the content is for Acrobat 9 only (as the Acrobat X SDK has only been out for a couple of weeks, developers haven't had the time to get to grips with it yet) - however in the months to come you can expect a lot of Acrobat X content to be added, some of which will come from the programmers at Adobe.
As to the speed of display updates in edit mode - I agree it's more CPU-intensive than it was in Acrobat 9, and that's an unfortunate consequence of the complexity of the new navigators. As you've already seen it only affects the edit stage, as once the portfolio is saved, displaying and reading it is much faster in Acrobat X and Reader X.

  • FCP-- MOTION-- FCP WORKFLOW

I've posted a variation of this question in the QT forum but I think that the MOTION experts might provide valuble input for this quandary. Here's what's happening (I've read the posts under long render times in the FCP forum but nobody has really spelled out what the problem is.):
I opened up a new project in FCP and imported a large still (TIFF pixel dimentions:2880 X 1920). I created a new sequence and then placed the clip of the still frame in the timeline. I then SEND TO -->MOTION PROJECT and embed it so that it feedsback any changes to FCP automatically. Now in MOTION I select the layer with the still image and REPLICATE so that there are 50 copies of the same obeject arranged in a stack and then adjust the scale so that the topmost object has a scale close to zero and the last object has a scale around 350%. Lastly I add a attract to behavior so that the objects become animated and kind of look like a warping vortex. Theres also a mask thrown in somewhere. So that's it:1 large still, 1 replicator, 1 behavior, 1 mask, 2 layers for about 60 seconds. Everything in Motion moves fine. I think the playback stutters a little and it does drop a couple of frames, but I get the main idea and I can monitor in real time on an external monitor. I save and then move back to FCP. Back in FCP things slow way down. It takes FCP about three minutes just to get back up to speed and display the current playhead frame. I cannot playback the clip at all because the program just kind of hangs and is not responsive at all. I have tried using QT Conversion with this clip and tried to Export to IPOD. It estimated 15 hours to do the job. A MPEG 2 export using COMPRESSOR with all settings on best and highest took 24 hours to complete. That's around 45 minutes per frame!!
Can someone detail the actual specifics of how motion and fcp differ in accessing/reading data and then how compression actually works as well?
    Any takers?
    Please enlighten me.
    g5 dual 2.7   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   4.5 GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9650

    Thanks for the tip Patrick.
The scary thing is that I've already checked out that material. I obviously need to re-read it(maybe a couple of times). The nuts and bolts section spells out really the ins and out of Motion and the way it is hardware based and and GPU dependent. I understand that it was overkill. I get that. I'm definitely looking at this as a how can I learn from my mistake angle, not a this computer *****, or this software is buggy angle.
It might sound worse than it actually was (for Motion that is). Motion was totally functional accessing and modifying the clip. I could add a MIDI behavior and modify the scale of the layer or object. It was a little slow but it was responsive. FCP on the other hand is where I ate dirt. Not only in the compression stage but also just playback. Like I mentioned before after modifying and saving the embedded .motn clip in Motion and bouncing back to FCP it takes FCP about 3-5 minutes just to read and display the current frame. Before that the pointer just pinwheels. How is it that Motion is able to read the clip while FCP almost crashes trying to read one frame?

  • Lightroom not reading correct data for Lens and Camera Serial Number

    Hi you all.
Recently got Lightroom, and I'm so impressed - I never imagined image organizing and adjustment could be this easy and at the same time very advanced.
I have a problem, however. Lightroom (and Adobe Bridge, too) does not correctly read the EXIF data of Lens type and Camera Serial Number.
The first ~50 images I took and imported turned out correctly and displayed my serial number and lens (18-55 mm Canon) inside Lightroom.
But now, whenever I import photos into Lightroom or view them with Bridge, they all display "Unknown Lens" and "Unknown Camera Serial Number".
At first I thought that maybe the camera didn't correctly record this data on to the photos anymore for some reason, but a comparison using EXIFToolGUI shows that the metadata is EXACTLY the same as in the photos that display this info in Lightroom correctly.
I have not done any changes to either my camera (Canon EOS-350D / Digitial Rebel XT) or lens (the kit lens, 18-55 mm Canon).
It seems that for some reason, Lightroom has stopped reading these two fields of metadata - all the other fields, such as aperture and shutter speed, all display correctly.
I also tried to reimport the photos into Lightroom, but it didn't help. Neither did "Synchronize Folder" -> "Scan for metadata updates".
What should I do? I'd like my lens information do display correctly, as I'll buy a new lens soon.
I have attached one of the photos that Lightroom doesn't read the data correctly from. Try importing it into your Lightroom, and see if how the info displays.
    Thanks in advance.

Are these jpgs or RAW?  I have only edited metadata on jpgs.
It looks like Vista's import stripped out all the makernotes.  I didn't look at your file but that seems to be what happened.  Be warned, Photoshop CS2 also strips out makernotes!
Now how to fix the problem.  If you want to edit the metadata on files already loaded into LR, you need to write out your metadata to the files first, then edit the metadata, then read the new metadata into LR.  This is scarey for me, so I always make sure my backup is up to date on the images first.
What to do...  You probably can't put back all of the makernotes, so what to do to get the lens information in.  I don't know if putting back in the makernote LensType would trigger LR to reconsider its lens information.  I don't know.  If it had a real lens name, my guess would be no because it would have an XMP::Lens field which would override.  But maybe unknown lens doesn't have this field and it would re-read the makernotes.
The other solution is to forget about makernotes for these images and put the exact text you want into XMP::Lens.  I think that's the "easy" way.
In either case, you will have to become familiar with exiftoolGUI or exiftool itself.  I use the command line exiftool but it looks like you can edit multiple files with exiftoolGUI.  Select your files, click the edit thingy (^) under XMP, choose various, and there is lens.  Put in the text you want.
I would do this with one file first.  If the lens shows up after you read the new metadata into LR, you know you have it right.
Note, exiftool can write backup files for each file.  This makes too much of a mess for me.  I prefer to copy the directory first (I have copies anyway, I just have to make sure the backups are up to date).
Good luck!  I'm struggling with a similar situation where the same lens used by two different cameras is coming out with a different name.  I need to go back and "fix" the names in the images already imported, and then develop my procedure for setting a single unique name before I load new images into LR.  Not too much of a problem because I'm loading in GPS information anyway...  What's another call to exiftool...

  • Call me jack shepard, im totally lost

ok, so, as with most 04-05 g5 powerpc powermac owners (that ive read about), im having a few issues with heat and fans in my unit... or maybe i dont, i dont entirely know. as i said im lost, and confused.
ive been reading about issues with fans, this and that, and have been toying with the idea of replacing my fans, most likely the cpu dual fan tower first, then maybe the HD fan (dunno if i have just a fan or a fan and blower...). i had even gone as far as constructing a exhaust vent tube to shoot out my window in my room and seal it off to vent the heat from the two cpu exhaust fans outside... but i dont need to do that now as that was more of my dad getting ****** about the ac running alot, and i moved last week, so i dont need to do THAT anymore. but im more interested now in extending the life of my elderly mac as much as i can, as well as helping to cool my room and the unit more.
so the first thing im hoping to find out it whether any after market (is that the same thing as oem?) fans are just fans or if the ones that are called cooling fans actually produce cold air, like an air conditioner. i cant seem to find that out but all logic seems to tell me that theyre all just fans and some are more efficient that others.
i also cant seem to find out who makes a replacement cpu fan for my g5... tbh im not really looking for a replacement i dont think, but a BETTER fan. then again, i dont know if the ones i have really NEED replacing. i just know that in automatic proc perform. settings both cpus can get up to like 120-135ish degrees. and thats hot to me. is that standard for that proc prfrm setting? am i just worrying too much?
what is all this pmu / smu stuff about? ive read plenty of discussions about adjusting or resetting it (whichever one you have), but i dont know what they are.
i found someone who posted a way to adjust the fan and blower rpm settings, the info.plist files... and i had that working for a while, but am sorta wanting to explore all options before i go back to that bc im not as comfortable with that sort of renegade 'solution.'
ive also experienced some similar issues that jeco9a123 discussed here:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11850423&#11850423
but not the exact same situ... just like the hd bay fan always being running faster than all the others (as shown in istat), but the temp is always like 90, 92 degrees... again, anyone think im correct in being slightly suspicious, or is this normal?
what about, in istat, the different temp readings: both internal HDs (i have two), i get. cpu a and b, and drive bay, i understand too. but what is cpu a/b ambient? whats 'backside'? u3 heatsink? and the fan speeds for both "slot" (dunno what that is either) and 'backside' (dunno this one, again), are like never even above 100 rpm... ive also read that there 9 fans total in the unit... so why are there only 7 fans which speeds are displayed in istat? what about the power supply fans?
sorry guys, i know im waaaay all over the place, but i just wanna get more directly informed and ask some direct questions to someone who may just be able to assist.
sorry for the craziness. thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi Jack.
whether any after market (is that the same thing as oem?)
No. OEM is Original Equipment Manufacture- the ones that are shipped in a computer.
After market are all the others.
fans are just fans or if the ones that are called cooling fans actually produce cold air, like an air conditioner.
All fans are cooling fans, because that is what their job is.
None work like an air conditioner.
And, an air conditioner doesn't work without a fan......
i just know that in automatic proc perform. settings both cpus can get up to like 120-135ish degrees. and thats hot to me.
    Not hot for a CPU.
    Not at all.
what is all this pmu / smu stuff about?

just like the hd bay fan always being running faster than all the others (as shown in istat), but the temp is always like 90, 92 degrees...
Smaller fans run faster, and the temps show that the fans are doing their job.
ive also read that there 9 fans total in the unit... so why are there only 7 fans which speeds are displayed in istat? what about the power supply fans?
Not all sensors are readable by reporting utilities.

  • Index an array of images only the last image shows

    Hi everyone,
I try to index an array of images and all but the last element give me the error: "not an image."
Here is a picture of the vi. The first for loop loads the images and stores them in an auto indexed tunnel. Every diagnostic I ran on this loop showed everything is fine. The second for loop should display the sequence of image stored in the auto indexed tunnel, but it does not. Instead I have the error message that elements 0 to n-1 are not images, and only the last image is displayed.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for your help.

Speed of what? The second loop can't run until the first loop is done, and all the operations are linear. I'm guessing you're referring to the perceived speed of displaying the images one after the other so you don't have to wait for the next image to be read which is why you pre-load all the images. Otherwise, the overall speed should be the same whether you use one loop or two. Actually, to be technically accurate, the two loop version will likely be a little slower overall since LabVIEW has to allocate more memory to store all the images, while in the one loop version it is only ever dealing with one image. If the images are large then you might actually run into a memory issue with the two-loop version (arrays need contiguous memory). Just something to keep in mind and to be careful about.
