Speeding up timecode burn?

My 5 minute 720p project renders to h264 in about 6 minutes. But if I want to burn timecode onto it, it turns into a 25 minute render. I understand that it has to re-render each frame. But that seems like a huge time penalty for such a simple effect. Any suggestions how to burn timecode into projects without burning up a lot of time?

Export the edit and reimport it as a single (avi) file and create a sequence from it.   Add BITC to the sequence.

  • How do I turn off timecode burn in

I'm up to page 140 of the manual, methodically working my way through Premiere, and tried Timecode burn in. Worked well. But how do I turn it off? No explanaiton anywhere in the manual or online as far as I can find.
This timecode thing has got me confused. My GH2 hasn't got timecode as far as I'm aware. Yet timecode is appearing all over the place in Premiere. On p141 of the manual it states: "If you have the Source panel selected, the Timecode panel will display source timecode." Well, I didn't think my source had timecode, but timecode is being displayed. Why?
I'm now up to page 144, and a similar problem has appeared with In and Out points. I can set them in the Project Window, and a yellow bar appears on the clip icon, and a green bar in the Source Window, showing the extent of the In/Out setup. I can delete the In/Out setup by Control-clicking on the green bar, and then the yellow bar also disappears. That's all okay.  But I can't work out how to delete the In/Out points in the Icon in the Project Window from within the Icon, the place I originally set them up.

Timecode burn-in is an effect applied in the Timeline in order to
display clip (or sequence) timecode within the video preview of the clip.
To turn off timecode burn-in, you disable or delete the effect.
    View timecode as a burn-in

The 'Timecode Panel' is different from a timecode burn-in.
The panel can be activated by checking it in the 'Window' menu.
Your source clip's timecode will be displayed in the timecode window
whle the Source Monitor is selected or playing.
If the clip has no embedded timecode,
the counter will assume that the clip begins @00:00:00:00.
View timecode in the Timecode panel (CS6)

  • Can you do a timecode burn-in in iMovie?

i need to output my project with a timecode burn-in
is there any way to do this in imovie?

    Hi
I only get this by another way of Capture/Import from Camera with TimeCode/Date present.
It (timecode) don't migrate over via FireWire for my set-up BUT via analog out on Camera to an A/D-box
and from this via FireWire into iMovie.
A/D-box I use is a Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC-300 - for several reasons - but there are cheaper solutions.

  • How to export quicktime with timecode burn?

I am scoring a film (in Pro Tools HD) and the editor isn't quite sure how to export the film to a quicktime movie with timecode burned in (i believe that's the term for timecode being visible on the preview...?). I don't know what version of FCP he's on but I was hoping someone could give me some generalized instructions I could give him.
Also, if I have to compress the video to slipstream the processing/reading in pro tools, will I retain proper timecode? thanks!

He would have to change the Timecode offset value under the Filters tab in the Browser.
Find a scene that starts on a hard cut, say 1 minute or so into the movie. Note the timecode.
Your guy then fiddles around with the beginning, making it 6 seconds and 8 frames shorter.
Go back to the reference cut and you will see that its TC has changed by that much.
Adjust the Offset parameter to match. This has to be done by entering the number of frames. You can use positive and negative values as required, which will also cover for the changed scenes turning out longer than they were originally.

  • Timecode burn in for dalies?

I've got about 40 min of 50Mb LongGOP MXF files captured from a Nanoflash drive that I'd like to cook into a BluRay or DVD with a timecode window burn displaying the timecode of the source material using Premiere CS 5.0.2.
My approach was to drag all the files onto a sequence, nest that sequence into new sequence, drop the timecode effect onto the new sequence and render it out but the timecode displayed just references the nested sequence and not the original timecode of the source files themselves even if I select "media" from the timecode source.  I get the same results when trying to apply the timecode burn to a transparent video layer.
I can select all the files in the original sequence and then drag/drop the timecode effect on them but it defaults to "clip" as the timecode source and it looks like I'd have to change it for every single clip (not practical).
    Any suggestions?

Thanks Harm but I need the window burn to reference the original source media timecode.  When I tried a transparent layer and adding the timecode effect to it, the timecode referenced the timeline or the length of the transparent clip.

  • New Update includes Timecode Burn-in filter? Where?

I edit with FCP but use AME for all my encoding.  When I read the AME CC update would include the option for a timecode burn filter I was esstatic because it meant I could stop using compressor completely.   I'm lost on how to implement it though...  I'm sure it's easy but googling it brought me no luck.  Thanks in advance.

The update you are referring to is not availble yet. It will be soon though...

  • At what speed does DVDSP burn?

I read that burns can fail if the burner is trying to burn at a faster rate than allowed by the media. I can find no controls in DVDSP for controlling burn speed--what speed does it use and can you control that?
    Thanks
    Bob

In short there are no controls and DVDSP will burn at the maximum available given the speed of the media and the speed of the burner that you have got.
The only way to control burn speed is to use Toast.

  • Increasing Processor allocation / speed for encoding / burning Blu Rays

I have several large HDV QT movie files that I have exported from FCP 6.06 and I am burning to BD-R discs using Toast 10.2 and my Lacie external Blu Ray burner. Since Toast uses H.264 it takes quite a while for my PowerBook G4 running Leopard 10.5.8 to encode, then burn the discs. Is there someway to increase the amount of processing power and speed by devoting more than one parallel processor to help with the task? thru Q-Master or something? I don't need to be doing ANYTHING else with my Mac during this time consuming process!

Of course a single movie would be broken up to compress in smaller parts. It's called segmented processing. It's what Qmaster does when you set up a distributed processing network. But you need more than one computer to make it worth while, and they have to be networked on, minimum, a gigabit network, but preferably on a faster Fibre network.
The problem that comes with job segmenting is if you use a variable bit rate, because the bit rate information isn't shared between/amongst the nodes. If you use a CBR, you're all set, but like I said, it won't matter unless you have more than one computer, and you're limited by the slowest computer in the chain, as well as the network.
If you use less than a gigabit connection, the time it takes to transfer the information to and from the cluster controller, and then reconstitute the final video is more than the time it would take to just do it on a single computer.

  • Timecode burn-in

how can i burn timecode into a movie in FCE? i see posts talking about a TC generator, but i can't find it. is that a FCP thing only?

  • Timecode Burn on Screen

I shot a project using the P2 solid state memory cards. I am going to perform an off-line edit using my laptop by transferring the footage to miniDV. Can I burn the timecode from the P2 footage when I transfer to minDV? My timecode is all over the place. I deleted a few takes on set that were throw away takes so that throws my TC off a bit.
If anybody has any better ideas on how to perform an off-line edit of P2 footage by all means point it out to me.
    thanks,
    cja

No need to downconvert to DV. DVCPRO HD at 720p will work on a firewire drive. Firewire 800 would be better, but 400 will work. If 1080p DVCPRO HD, then firewire 800 will be fine. Or get an eSATA drive unit like the CalDigit S2VR DUO, or G-SATA from G-Tech, and a PCIexpress eSATA card.
Editing DVCPRO HD is a breeze...no offline needed. Besides, you can't get window burn by media managing the footage, but, if you DID media manage the footage to DV res, it would retain the TC of the original clips.
    But you don't need to...

  • Timecode burn

hello all, i have searched here and on the DVD Studio PRO site but I couldn't find an exact answer... I have compressed and sent everything to Studio and have burned several successful copies, however now i need to burn time-code and property of etc. into screening copies, and I was wondering if i need to do this in FCP and re-compress or if i could do this in Studio and make it ever present... obviously i don't want the user to be able to tun it off.... Any ideas?
thanks in advance these discussions are great and so helpful!!

    thanks capt,
that is what i was thinking.. i just didn't want to re-compress etc. everything.... it is a full length 93 mins feature so the compression time isn't quick... i did have an idea.... but i'm not sure this is possible... is it possible to take just the generated TC and export that? then I could layer that in as a subtitle that i make ever present... ohh well if not, just a few hours compressing over night.. hehe
    cheers

  • How do I add a clip-based timecode burn in to all my clips?

    Howdy —
I'm trying to add a timecode based on each clip to every clip in my project.  If I select all the clips and add a timecode, it's media-based — and I can't figure out how to change that except one-by-one.  Can you change the timecode preferences before adding them to all of the clips?
But here's the main thing: the clip timecode just starts from 0, no matter what the clip in the sequence was cut from.  Can I add a timecode that refers to the timing in the master clip?  (i.e. if I'm using the last 10 seconds of a minute-long clip, it'll say: 00:50 at the start).
    Thank you!

  • I want a timecode burn in my camera...please

I'm speaker training, I'm capturing direct to an external G-force drive ( non controlable device) using a new mac book pro. I've connected an external plasma display and am able to play back portions of speech instantly. I've been putting a laptop beside the subject with a digital clock displayed. I've been taking notes based on the clocks time so that I can drag the clip in the timeline and find a specific point very quickly.
My question is: Is there a device that I can connect to my GL2 that will display the time directly into the camera so that I can eliminate the laptop? I want to be able to capture the image with a digital clock/timecode.
    Thanks for any help
    Cheers

I sold my GL2 a while back (great camera) and I recall that there is a menu setting to send the LCD data displays to an external device - in other words, the timecode and other stuff would appear on an external monitor the same way they do on the viewfinder display.
I do not recall if there is a setting that will actually record timecode into the image - if that is what you want - but I suspect there is such a setting as well.

  • Is there anyway to speed up encoding/burn process?

It's been 3 hours and only 13% encoded.
A thuderstorm is moving in and I may have to quit.

To give you an idea, I will share a little story:
I was handed a Project, where the client said that the WMV's were the ONLY available source files (not too different from the DivX one, on the machine now). I begged for the originals, and pointed out that the WMV's were heavily compressed, and if we could ONLY go to the originals, all would be much, much better. The client did not want to look around his company, so I was instructed to use the WMV's. In a fit of pique, I just Imported the 4 WMV's, added the Titles, did some simple cuts, and then Exported. This was on my workstation, which is still very fast. It was taking forever. After about an hour into the Export, I loaded up the WMV's onto the laptop, converted them to DV-AVI Type II's, Imported them into a New Project, did the same Titles, the same cuts and then Exported. The one on the laptop, though started much later, and that had the time to convert, finished 3 hours ahead of the WMV's on the workstation. I learned to not break my own rules of "Always Convert," and ended up with a bit of a benchmark.
Whether there will be THAT big a difference with your DivX files, I cannot say. Also, I was Exporting to DV-AVI, so that would be quicker, than MPEG-2, the format/CODEC needed for DVD. Still, there was about a 5 hour difference, considering all that had to be redone in the second version.
Good luck, and hope that the story did not bore you to tears...
    Hunt
PS - I was also using PrPro on the workstation, and had to use PrE on the laptop, so as to not violate the EULA of having two instances of PrPro runnng at the same time. PrPro is a tad faster, than PrE, but they are very close.
