  • How can I enforce automatic spell checking for selected fields of data entered by form users?

I'd like to be able to enforce spell checking of selected fields in the forms that I've created using LiveCycle Designer 8.2 at run time, as opposed to design time.  I understand the version LCD 8 has a nifty new spell checker for form designers.  But I want to spell check the data entered by users using Acrobat Reader.  And I want to enforce the spell checking automatically on selected fields only.
Presently it seems that users filling in my forms, must know how to manually right-click on each field and select "Spell Check" from the resulting dialog box in order to check for spelling errors in the data the user has entered in the form.
I would like to discover a way to enforce spell checking in selected fields, just as I am able to do in forms created using Acrobat Pro.  In Acrobat Pro, I can set a property for each field to require spell checking.  but that feature seems to be missing in Livecycle Designer.
I've check the Object model for XFA forms hoping that I might find a method I can call with a Javascript, to check spelling based on an event such as onBlur.  But I haven't found a spell check method.
Am I missing something simple?  Is there a way to set each field to be spell checked when a user is filling in the form using the free Acrobat Reader?
Our users are not sophisticated and requiring them to spell check each field separately just won't cut it...
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -David Bartholomew

    Hi David,
    Two things...
At design time set the locale of the form to one that Acrobat spell checks. For example English (US) and English (UK) locales have spell checkers; however English (Ireland) does not. Check the Warnings tab to see if spell checking is supported for your locale.
If your form locale supports spell checking then you can go to the button script below.
If you form locale does NOT support spell checking then Stephanie has a great work around to force spell checking (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2233945#2233945).
Bring a regular button onto the form and in the click event have the following:
    app.execMenuItem("Spelling:Check Spelling");
Which will open the spell checker for all fields.  Thanks to Paul for extracting all of the accessible menu items (http://forums.adobe.com/message/1912914#1912914).
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • "Alert:  Couldn't contact spell checker" in text fields

Whenever I put my cursor in a text field of any type (login, password, search, filling a form) in Safari, I get a spinning rainbow wheel and then a message that says Alert: Couldn't contact Spell Checker. If I click Okay, I have about two characters worth of typing again before I get the same alert. Making it very difficult to do much on Safari at the moment. This only started recently (within past two days). Any ideas? Can I just turn off the spell checker or auto-fill function to make the error go away?

Thanks, Peggy, I tried this solution, but alas I'm still getting the same alert message.
It is odd, though, that I have Spell Catcher still installed and running on another computer (same OS 10.5.1 and Pages 3) without this problem. Now Spell Catcher has been completely removed from this computer, but the problem persists. Spotlight finds no trace that I ever had CocoAspell (and I don't remember ever using it either).
    Any other notions.
I did, by the way, restart after deleting the traces.

  • Custom Spell Check from ABAP Code without MS Word

    Hi All,
I am working on a requirement where we need to check for misspelt words in a string that is received from another system. I have come across a number of FM's which can be used to check for spellings but all of the require MS Word to be installed in our PC, but I am looking for a solution that does not involve MS Word. If any of you have come across any external tool that can be called from ABAP code or any suggestion on a logic that can be built please pass it on. Any pointers or help in this regard would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • 2010 Publishing Site - Disable automatic spell check

We have a 2010 publishing site.. and evertime you publsih a page it does an automatic spell check. Can this be disabled?
I found how to disable spell check on lists but I need to stop the auto check on page publish.
    Thanks!
    sayitfast

    I also experienced this issue.
So i tried uncommenting the registerSpellingHandler() line in the Spellcheck.js files like suggested by sayitfast. This worked for me in my dev environment. But i didn't like messing around with the default SharePoint files under the 15 hive in the prod
    environment.
So i searched a bit more and found a decent solution for this. You can disable the spell check for certain fields by setting the "excludeContentFromSpellCheck" attribute to "true" on text area and input controls that you dont want to be spell checked. I
did this on all my page layouts. Now i dont get false positives anymore.
The solution i found was this one: http://blog.cube4.com.au/?p=1016
This worked for SharePoint 2013. I dont know if this would work for SharePoint 2010 also.

  • Safari and spell checking

    Still new and still learning....
I am unable to believe that the safari browser doesn't have a spell checker for typed fields like this one I'm typing in without having to reactivate.
"The Check Spelling as You Type" feature only remains active as long as Safari is open; it must be reactivated each time the browser starts.
Is there a way (or a plug in) that will work around this?
My Google tool bar took care of that (on that old evil PC I have)
    Thanks

Where would I find what you have mentioned below? I'm in the process of switching from a lifetime of PC and I still get a little lost on the mac file structure
    Have you tried
deleting your com.apple.Safari.plist file in your
~/Library/Preferences/ folder while Safari is not
open (then reopen Safari, select "Check Spelling as I
type", close Safari, open it again and it should
    stick)?

independent spell checker which would work on any Forte platform and not
require the use of any external software. Seems like there should be some
public domain dictionaries lying around; providing the ability to add to a
personal dictionary sounds easy; a browser on near matches is easy. The
only "interesting" parts that come to mind would be ways to avoid putting
all variants of a word in the dictionary, e.g., to avoid having to store
all plurals as separate words, and good algorithms for guessing at
alternative words when the word is not found.
Not only would this give you independence from what was installed on the
client, but it would give you a possible server-side version for use with
    the Web.

  • How do you spell check a field?

How are people spell checking their fields?
In searching around, I have only found (a) suggestions to yank the text into MS Word, do a spell check, then yank the resulting text into the field; (b) software from DC AL CODA that we aren't clear how they actually work (http://www.dcalcoda.com).
Specifically, my manager wants a tool that'll interface with Oracle like this: give a table name and a field name and be asked about each spelling error, much like an email spell check. The tool would change things as you ask, directly in the database. You wouldn't have to cut and paste into it and back to the db fields.
We aren't using forms. We use SQL*Plus, Quest Software's TOAD, and our own Java servlets (using JDBC to enter SQL statements).
I would love to hear how people do their spell checking.
Hopefully this is an appropriate forum for this question. There doesn't seem to be a general or SQL forum. Our database tables include a fair amount of text that shows up on Web pages. These are the fields we want to spell check.

I thought I'd reply to my own question since I found a workable solution, at least for our office which has MS Windows.
MS Access can connect directly to an Oracle data source. Access has a spell checking feature where you can select a field and spell check it. Below are tips and instructions for doing this.
    TIPS:
It's surely a good idea to back up tables and be the only person or process changing those tables during the spell check.
One thing to watch for is whether the entire table comes in. At the bottom of the screen is a >* button which seems to get all fields. For large tables, you have to hit this button before you get the entire table.
Another glitch is that all of the given database user's tables show up in one list box -- makes for some painful scrolling, but all of the tables are listed.
A much smaller glitch is that if you widened any of the fields in the view of the table, when you close the window, it asks if you want to save the formatting. It has nothing to do with saving the data (that is automatic). It's safe to say no.
    The spell check doesn't recognize HTML tags (asks about "br"s from <br> tags) but seems to know to ignore things like &quot;
How to set up an ODBC Data Source in Windows:
    1. MS Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> ODBC Data Sources (32 bit)
    2. Drivers tab, scroll down and select Oracle ODBC Driver
    3. OK
    4. User DSN tab, Add...
    5. Select Oracle ODBC Driver and Finish
    6. Make up a data source name (example: src)
    7. Enter a description for it
    8. For Service name, put what your service name is (for an SQL*Plus connection, 'usr/passwd@svc', this is 'svc')
    9. For UserID, put your user id (for an SQL*Plus connection, 'usr/passwd@svc', this is 'usr')
    10. Ignore the rest of the fields, click OK
    11. Another OK.
How to use Access to Spell Check an ODBC Data Source Field:
    0. Install Access from (MS Office 2000).
    1. Start Access (by the way, you might find it way down the list in Start -> Programs).
    2. Open file, in the file type box, scroll to the end: ODBC Databases. You'll get a dialog.
    3. Machine Data Source tab, select the name you gave it (src in step 6 above)
    4. You'll be prompted for the password (for an SQL*Plus connection, 'usr/passwd@svc', this is 'passwd')
    5. Select from the huge list of every table the table you want. Ok.
5.a. If the table has no key, you'll be prompted for the unique key from a list of all fields.
    6. Double click the item that has just been added to the dialog that remains on the screen. It'll have a globe next to text like USR_TABLENAME. This brings up a randomly sized first chunk of the table.
    7. To make sure you get the entire table, on the paging buttons on the bottom (|< < > >| >*), click >*. It may take a few moments to get a huge table.
    8. Click the heading of the field (column) you want to spell check). This selects the entire column.
    9. Hit spell check (ABC checkmark tool or Tools -> Spelling)
    10. Check away. The changes are made immediately to the database.
    11. Close the table display window.

  • ABAP-command to check wheather a field in existing in a spec.table/structur

    Hello together,
we have a tool to do corrections to CO-PA-transaction data.
Because we have different structures for different operating concerns (and therefore different dynpros for those different operating concerns) we now want to dynamize this tool.
The idea is to have one dynpro with the maximum number of CO-PA-fields and to control via a functional-module which vields are existing for one operating concern and those are not existing for that operating concern to change the attributes to non-changeable.
Is there any command in ABAP to check if one field (e.g. one valuefield) is contained in one table-structure (e.g. table-structure CE1xxxx) ?

  • Spell check in Forms 9i

How do I do a spell check on a forms 9i item?

I think the JSpell cost money to download. Is there a way to make MS Word the editor for a text item? I don't want to use the default editor option, since that would mean each client has to have that set. I would like to specify it explicitly. When I'm on the editor property for the field, it won't let me type anything in, it just reads null.
