Spl in sync with playback??

Hi guys,
howcome my spl is not in sync with the playback. The playback is ways behind.
PDC is "all".
Eddie

I believe I'm having the same problem, i.e the playhead is out of sync with the audio during playback. It always seems to be about 2 beats ahead of the audio which make's it hard to judge exactly where to make a cut when editing.
I am not 100% sure whether it has something to do with the plugin delay compensation because the playhead does not start moving exactly when I press play. But having read this thread it makes me wonder if some of the plugins I'm running has anything to do with it. I use T-Racks 3 quite a lot on the output channel and on sub-mix busses. The weird thing is that if there was a problem with plugin delay compensation working with third party plugins you would think that the delay would be audible in the audio. Instead all tracks of audio sound perfectly in sync and the only the playhead seems to be out of sync.
Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated.

  • Track automation not in sync with playback

As of today any track automation that I manipulate is out of sync with the track by a beat. So if I adjust low frequency cut to jump from 20Hz to 1kHz at measure 64 1 1 1, when I playback it will make that adjustment at measure 63 4 1 1 instead, despite me looking at the line that's jumped from 20Hz to 1kHz on 64 1 1 1. Am I going crazy?
This doesn't happen to any PREVIOUS track automation, but only new track automation. And it's always a beat early compared to what I assign to it. Also, this is not specific to a certain project, but happens to every project. In other words, I can't make any music really past notes and beat assignments.
Does anyone have any idea what this means?
I don't know if this helps, but here's the current configurations on the Automation menu:
    Move automation with regions: never
    snap offset: -5 ticks
    ramp time: 200 ms
    'Write' mode changes to: Touch
Write automatino for (everything is checked off except "solo")

    Hi,
Have you add plugins like Adaptive limiter and/or phase linear Eq on Master Out 1-2?
If you add plugin that require Delay conpensation on the Master 1-2.
Also the meter will be delayed...... try to add 5 or more instances of Adaptive Limiter on the master after automation is done...
Maybe this should be related with Graphic delay that is not f compensate in logic 8, I'm not sure but when I add Plugins such as UAD for mastering reason I can see very large difference (not in sync with audio monitoring) on Meters viewing and all pre-recorded automation will be not in sync.
But I'm not sure if this issue is related with only certain project... maybe you have plugin that add latency on Aux or Master out in those projects!
    check it.
    Thanks

  • SPL not in sync with overview

    Still in logic 8.0.2.
When using specific plug-ins like limiter, TC linearphase eq et cetera, the timeline spl is not in sync with the waveform overview during playback.
Is this normal or expected behaviour?
Anything I can change? Its hard to cut regions, when you do not see what you hear.
Yes, I could bypass the plugs, but thats stupid, isn't it? And yes, delay compensation is set to all. Wish that was fixed.
    Eddie

seems to be a " specific limiter, TC liearphase eq et cetera" problem...
you need to manually compensate or.. wait for TC update.
... anyway . try to delete preferences of Logic and specific TC plugs

  • How can I add a delay to sync iTunes playback with my Sonos system

I have a Sonos multi-room audio system which accesses all my music from a drive on my Airport Extreme base station. These music files are also accessed through iTunes on my Macs.
When I'm at my Macs, I prefer to use iTunes to play my music, so I have an Airport Express which is used as a line-in source for the Sonos system. Using this, I can play my music on a Mac and also have it play through all the other speakers on the Sonos system.
The only drawback is, the Sonos system introduces a slight delay in order to sync the different players, which puts it out of sync with iTunes.
Is there a plug-in or similar that would allow me to introduce a small delay in the playback from iTunes without affecting the feed to the Airport Express?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Create playback controls for Timeline in sync with audio?

    Hi All,
Technically, I've combined two questions into one. Firstly, can someone offer some insight on how to create playback controls for an Edge animation so the user can essentially "scrub" the timeline or navigate to a specific point on the timeline. I know you can create buttons to "sym.play()" different areas but I was wondering if there was a more streamlined solution (something similar to video playback controls.) Next, I'd like the user to be able to skip to different locations while the music remains in sync with the animations. I've created a few buttons to attempt to achieve this but the music plays independently regardless of where I jump to on the timeline.
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I had some ideas why that may be so, but then, when I thought about it, properly, i have no idea why it is that way. Maybe it is because audio has a higher priority than graphics, in OS X, but if I remember correctly, it was like this before OS X. Maybe there is an offset for latency compensation, but they made it too large. (it seems to be the same amount, no matter what the buffer size is)
just to make sure we are seeing the same thing. on my (somehat old) G4 I'm seeing about 60ms difference.

  • Audio SFX not in sync with input string playback

The audio 'key clicking' sound that occurs during playback as an input string is animated on the screen is not in sync with the characters... Its about .5 seconds late.
Is there a way to adjust this?
    Thanks,

While the posted solution to my sync issue could very well correct my problem, the poster presumes I am computer literate, which I am not. lol
could the solution provider please explain the solution as is it were being given to a 6 year old? Although most 6 year old's are possibly more computer literate than I. lol
    Thank you for your time.
I will be checking back for any response.

  • Video losing sync with audio during playback

I am having a unique issue with FCP 6.0.6.
We are using this version to log and capture a switched video feed with audio
through a Black Magic DeckLink HD Extreme 3  PCI card.  Capture works fine.
But during playback the next day, the video seems to drop a frame, or lose sync
(you can see it visually) then continues playing.  The result is the video is now
out of sync with the audio.
We do a weekly 3 camera shoot which is webcast, and then later uploaded to youtube.
We have been running this setup for a number of years without issue, but this has started
becoming an issue the last 3 weeks in a row with no change to our setup.
The webcast does not experience this, which makes me think there is a sync issue
between my switcher and my FCP machine.
    Any thoughts or ideas?

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure there was NO change? (All sorts of problems can occur if you haven't turned off automatic updates.)
In any case, you might want to run Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free) to delete the FCP prefs. Sometimes they get corrupted and can cause some funky behaviors.
Otherwise, sounds like a question for Blackmagic technical support.

  • Sync problems with playback, 24/25fps

Trying to make a music video. Footage shot 24fps transferred to beta PAL. I have imported at 25fps and am trying to sync to a CD I was given of the playback that was played on set. The problem is the sync keeps drifting when i play it. In fact it stays in sync for a while and then the picture jumps and it flies out of sync. If I put the play head onto a slate and play it, it stays in sync but if I play it from a few seconds behind it is now out of sync.
If I slow the footage down to 24fps (using the 24@25 function), the sync is fine. Final Cut then puts out a 25fps EDl for the online. So they will have a 25fps project that will no longer sync with the track when they reconform it. What happens?
I have also tried cutting the track at 25fps with the track speeded up to 104% but this doesn't seem to work and as i said before cutting the 25fps to the track as imported but t

  • How can I sync with audio framerate?

I hope that there is an entirely different way of doing what I'm trying to do because I've run up against what seems like an insurmountable obstacle. I have been working on a project for many months and the last piece to figure out is synchronizing application actions with the audio framerate. I have seen other apps doing this successfully (but proabably written in C++, not Java) so it can be done with standard Wintel boxes - but I'm now concerned that it cannot be done using Java Sound.
My project attempts to animate sound with visual images (not video or pictures but more abstract visualizations based on the audio itself). It works fine when simply "listeing" and responding to the audio. The final step is to be able to sync specific abstract visualizations with precise points in the audio (frames or position in microseconds). I'm now wondering if what I need is handled by the soundcard (hardware) and not available through Java. I presumed that I would be able to rely on the soundcard to handle the realtime audio stream (using its clock) and I would simply wait for increments of a certain frame count that correspond to the refresh/trigger times for my visualizations. As it turns out, after a lot of experimenting with my configuration, I can't find a way to trigger a method in my application synchronized wiht a certain period in the audio being played. I am playing audio by writing to a SourceDataLine, and listening (using loopback, I believe) on a TargetDataLine. To give an idea of what I'm looking for, if a LineListener supported notification based on reaching a certain frame position in the audio stream, that would be great. That doesn't exist (that I could find, only START/STOP/OPEN/CLOSE events). I've been trying to set the buffer size on the TargetDataLine, and the number of bytes (frames) that I read from that TDL, to achieve a synchronization with the actual rate the audio is playing through the sound card. What I've seen is that the number of frames made available through TDL is not consistent. The read() method blocks for various times and with differing incremental frame positions as the TDL buffer is replenished in real time.
My goal is to be able to detect when a number of frames corresponding to 20 milliSeconds at 48kHz or 44.1kHz sample rate have been played through the sound card. Is this possible? I've not posted any code because the code I have isn't non-functional, it's just not capable of performing the task I am trying to achieve. Suggestions as to how I can refine my existing approach, or what other direction/implementation I can pursue will be greatly appreciated.
    Edit: typo.

I think this breaks down into two related but separate issues:
First, the latency between writing audio (to a SDL) and when that audio is actually heard. If I could find a way to measure that, and it was consistent, I could adjust my processing and delivery of audio data to that SDL. As I tried to explain in my previous post, there will ALWAYS be a variability in the time when a given frame is processed in an SDL and when it sounds. Biggest variability is between the time required for the onset of the first sound (played via bytecode interpretation) and onsets of subsequent sounds (if played via code loaded into memory). But JVM switching also accounts for variability.
    Have you seen this article?
    http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/p/pod/dod-idx?c=icmc;idno=bbp2372.2007.131
"Real Time Low Latency Audio Processing in Java"
It does a good job of listing various factors that affect real-time audio latencies.
The other problem is that even if I were able to get an accurate measurement of the delay (latency) in the audio lines, if I then set system timers to cause action in sync with the audio frame rate based on audio sample rate (frame rate for uncompressed PCM audio) there is still an error path. Again from observation not direct knowledge, it seems that there is no direct link between the sound card clock (controlling real time frame rate and what should really be the master of all actions) and the system clock (which I would use as a surrogate for the actual sound card clock to synchronize my actions with the audio being heard). Even if I were to establish perfect synchronization at the start of a song, by the time 5 or 10 minutes of audio has been processed, I suspect there will be an accumulation of errors between the sound card clock and the system clock that becomes noticeable. The sound card clock and the system clock are perfectly in synch. The problem is the granularity of the system clock. With Microsoft, the clock info is only updated once every 15 msec or so. As a consequence of this, System.currentTimeMillis() will only report the time at the last update. Also, Thread.sleep(millis) and setting a Timer are subject to this constraint. The error doesn't accumulate, though. It is just an issue of having a reduced "granularity" that creates a predictable error. (System.nanoTime will always be more accurate--it is not subject to letting the OS determine the update frequency.)
As I wrote, there is a hack that allows you to increase the granularity of the OS clock interrupt. It involves setting an independant, background thread to sleep for the maximum amount of time, e.g. Thread.sleep(Long.Max_Value). This somehow forces the OS to use a higher granularity, and with Microsoft the accuracy becomes about 1 msec (comparable to Linux and Mac systems). I learned this at the forum Java-Gaming.org.
    >
I'm open to ideas, criticism or examples of how I might acheive my goal. While it might not be practical or the only way, the best I can describe what I'm looking for is to have an audio-event driven system where I can determine a frame position corresponding to the audio being rendered in real time and trigger events to keep other actions synchronized with that audio. If a constant delay (latency) was maintained and measureable, that would be OK.
    This is a difficult problem.
    Agreed about the difficulty!
Given all this, I think the questions are:
    1) how much in advance do you know about given frames that you wish to use as cues?
    2) how well can you guestimate an anchor point? (and, is there a way to improve upon the guess with feedback?)
    3) how accurately can you trigger the visual cue?
Regardless of when Java decides to process a frame, it DOES manage to keep the playback steady. Thus, if you focus your efforts on finding an ANCHOR (for example, the nanoTime, or "close enough" approximation, when the first frame sounds) that you can use as a reference point for the duration of the sound, then you can use that point to calculate conversions between the frame count of the sound and the time it can be expected to play.
For example, if the frame is 44100 and you estimate frame 0 was at time 1336426670003 (System.currentTimeMillis), then set a Timer, in advance, to trigger the visual cue at 1336426671003 (I'm adding 1000 msec). The level of accuracy will remain the same regardless of the frame number and duration involved as long as you use the same anchor (and the sound playback is not interrupted).

  • Apple TV (1st Gen) not fully syncing with iTunes 10.4

Today i discovered that after syncing my Apple TV with iTunes 10.4 after a few weeks nearly all music and movie files have vanished from ATV.
ATV has the actual firmware and was working fine till last iTunes update.
Syncing shows up about 60 music files ... instead of >10K
I have tried to delete the computer from ATV which erased all files and re-connected ATV with the controlling computer, no change.
All other devices like iPad and iPhone are still synced with all files.
Internet Access from ATV works fine, playback of all synced files works fine .... but ATV simply does not sync all files.
    Any ideas ?

    Yep. I am sure
I have also marked all files, rebooted Mac and ATV, nothing.

  • IPad Won't Sync with MKV to MP4 720p Videos

I converted some mkv files (1280x720p x264, AC3) to mp4 using QuickTime 7 and Perian by exporting to mp4 with the video set to pass thru, and the audio set to AAC 160 Kbps 48 kHz. ITunes won't let them sync with my iPad, but it doesn't tell me why. One possible issue is that the atom (something I know nothing about) has been reported as having a length larger than the whole file by another program. Is there something I can change with my conversion method or an application on the Mac that will repair the atom?
    Thank you

I converted some mkv files (1280x720p x264, AC3) to mp4 using QuickTime 7 and Perian by exporting to mp4 with the video set to pass thru, and the audio set to AAC 160 Kbps 48 kHz.
Are you actually trying to determine the cause of the problem or just end up with a playable file? If the latter, then don't pass through the video unless you are certain it meets the Main Profile @ L3.1 (or under) standard. Otherwise, re-compress both video and audio to supported standards as specified on the Apple web site or use any compatible QT or third-party preset you may prefer.
If trying to determine the actual problem here, then download and use one of the various movie info utilities that will allow you to examine the various settings used to encode the source video track to specifically include the profile and level used and see if they comply with ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group standards. Many non-Apple custom encoded source files may either be encoded using profiles/levels exceeding iPad limits, employ hybridized or mixed encodings features drawn from multiple profiles/levels, or simply require a third-party decoder like those included in the Perian component package for playback and which, of course, are not available in the iPad firmware OS. Basically, when you pass the video data through without confirming its compatibility, you do so at your own risk.

  • Audio not in Sync with Video in FCP

Hi People, i'm new to this, hoping to find some support.
I have Final Cut Studio 2, im doing an Apple Pro Training series book - 'Final Cut Pro-Beyond the Basics' and im having a problem of the audio not syncing with the video. If i simply play the sequence, the video is ahead by about 7 seconds, and if i stop and start playback (edit) it remains out of sync. However, if i let the sequence play through and loop, when it restarts at the beginning, it appears fine and all fixed, until i stop plyback and start it again. So, the only way to have it work right (to check my edit) is to continue to let the sequence loop and it fixes itself?? In QT it says the clip is DV 720 * 480, 23.98 fps, and so ive checked that in FCP, the settings are the same, and ive played around extensively with the real time plyback settings and sequence settings, but nothing fixes it apart from letting it play til it loops!!!???
    Has anyone had this??
Am i missing a setting here?? It seems to have been like this since the update to 10.5.3
    Thanx!

Hi People, i have found the answer to my question and thought i might post the cause so anyone else who gets caught can get it sorted.
The answer ended up being that i had an aggregate device as my audio interface (because i have 2 audio interfaces) and so the audio was being delayed in being processed. So i deleted the device in my Audio MIDI Setup (audio page) and thhus, its all good. Quite painfull after a FC reinstall! Ha!!

  • Nokia 6131 video not in sync with sound

After a year of working just fine, my Nokia 6131 video picture is not in sync with the sound when I play it back on the phone or when I download it to my pc to view.
At first the problem was only when I played it back on the phone, but was fine on the pc. Now it's distorted on both.
The video picture seems to be on fast forward but the sound runs smoothly. My video's are always less than five mins long.
Please can anyone help me to resolve this frustrating problem?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

hey KatieGirl, i too had the same problem with my old nokia 6288. have you tried turning off your phone and restarting it, this usually helps in alleviating choppy video playback. if this is still resulting in **bleep** playback on your phone and pc, then i would suggest searching for a software update via Nokia Software Updater, if there is no update, then i would suggest re-flashing your phone with the same version firmware again. p.s. remember to backup all your data before flashing your phone with firmware.
failing all this, then i would suggest taking your phone to your nearest Nokia Care Centre or authorised service repair centre, as there may be a fault with your phone hardware itself.
    hope this helps.

  • Royalty free music is not syncing with FCP? HELP!!!

    Hey Everyone,
So this is an odd one. I've stepped in to help a friend who can't get the audio to line up from Royalty Free Music to sync with the video timeline of his project. It's a ballroom workout dvd where it's all one take. They used the mp3's downloaded from Royalty free Music.com and imported them into the timeline. What's odd is the tempo goes in and out of time with the dancer (who certainly isn't the issue with tempo). So it seems as if the tempo speeds up some and then is a little slower. They filmed this with only her mic on, and the dancer listening to a Sansa mp3 player.
My first fix was to convert all mp3's in QT to AIFF files. When I relined them up...same issue. One song would seem a little more in tempo, then another would seem off.
I would have also thought perhaps a processor issue on their Mac. Same issue with my PowerMAc and MacBook Pro. So I don't think that's it.... WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!!!???
    Please help...thanks!

    Hi -
The weak link in all of this appears to me to be the Sansa Mp3 player. It was not designed, nor should it have been, to maintain accurate speed playback. It is highly likely it was speed drifting during the duration of the playback. Even if it is 99% accurate, it would still be a second out of sync for every 100 seconds of playing - which is very apparent of syncing dance moves.
If you have ever seen or participated in a professional production in which music playback is an essential part, you will see the great lengths taken to preserve sync on the set and in the edit bay = with specialized audio playback devices that lock to the camera.
Also, I assuming that the talent listened to the Mp3 player with in ear headphones while the microphone was left open to record voice, so that you do not have a recording of the music in the clear to use in the edit and must use the sound files.
    Two suggestions:
    1) If the Sansa Mp3 player still has the material on it, hook it up to a camera and record the player playing the music to videotape. If you are very lucky, the player may playback in a similar way (with similar drifts in speed) to when it played back to the shoot. Digitize that video tape and see if the audio syncs any better. Most likely it won't, but this is worth a try and can be done fairly easily and is worth a shot.
    2) Manually sync the head of each song, then see how far off it is at the end. You can adjust the playing speed of the sound file in FCP (with the new speed change window, you can just enter a new duration) and you will have to go through and keep adjusting until you get an acceptable level of sync. If the songs were crossfaded, you will need to establish sync then re-do the cross fades between the correctly synced tracks.
    Hope this helps.
