Spltting number passed in from main

Question

Hi, my program is supposed to get a number and store it in input. Input is then passed into numberisValid function. I would like to be able to split the number into single digits to do some mathematical calculations. For example if the user enters 123 it would be split into 1 2 3. How would i do this the simplest way. The only way i can think of is by storing it in an array but how would i divide the input variable?

Here's a method that will split an int into an array of integers.
public int[] splitDigits(int num) {
    int[] array = new int[String.valueOf(num).length()];
    for (int i = array.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
        array[i] = num % 10;
        num /= 10;
    return array;
}
