Sporadic ora -1031 Errors

Hi,
We have following problem when we try to login to SQLPLUS as sysdba.
C:\>sqlplus "/ as sysdba "
SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production on Fri Jan 19 12:03:36 2007

ERROR:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
Enter user-name:
The problem is sporadic like sometimes we are able to login and
sometimes we get above error.
This error is not coming during each logon, it comes randomly at
anytime.
All the dba roles are OK.The user <sid>adm belongs to proper admin group. We have SAP CRM application running on the server and also on the same windows host their is a another J2EE engine running.
We have following configuration:
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 (Intel Pentium III xeon, 699MHx, 3.87
GB RAM)
ORACLE 9.2.0.6.0
Application: SAP BBPCRM 4.0 ( SID1) + Standalone J2EE engine (SID2)
Any ideas for the above problem.
Kind Regards
Neenad

Hi all,
The user is member of ORA_DBA group.
Parameter SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS) in sqlnet.ora file
The problem is sporadic.Sometimes we are able to login and sometimes we get the above error. Also I have checked the dba_profiles table for the SESSIONS_PER_USER parameter and it is set to unlimited.
Kind Regards

  • ORA-1031 Error On Install ORAEX 2.2

    Running WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION and have the most recent version Oracle Database Express 10g installed and am a new user.
    Following page 2-1 on the Oracle Application Express Installation Requirements manual. When do:
    SQL> STARTUP
    receive the error:
    ORA-1031: insufficient privileges. Before doing this, I logged into the 10g database as sys.
    What do I need to do?

    Hello,
    If I understand correctly, you are trying to install Apex 2.2 on Oracle 10g EX, which is not a supported configuration. If you installed Oracle 10g EX, the proper Apex version – 2.1 – is already installed on your computer, as it is embedded in the 10g EX version.
    For some more information, please read the following article - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/xe_and_2.2.html

  • Sporadic ORA-12154 errors when connecting

    We are occasionally receiving "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name" errors in all of the applications running on our W2K web server connected to an 8.1.6 database on a Sun server. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and how we can prevent it?

    Try using an IP address in your tnsnames.ora instead of a machine name for a tns entry.

  • Oracle9i Start Error: ORA-1031

    Whenever I started Oracle9i in window98, it ask for a username and password. I have tried all the standard user (i.e. sys/sysdba, scott/tiger, system/manager) but nothing works and the error ORA-1031 appear.

    The most probable reason is you are not logged into your machine as the administrator of the machine (or as the user who installed Oracle). You do not have sufficient privileges to start and stop the Oracle.
    Log in as administrator and try to connect as :
    / as sysdba
    If you still get the error, refer for tips at this url to

    Do you have an advice for me ?

  • Ora-1031 - emca -config dbcontrol db

    Hi,
    I had an instance that was running fine with a fully functioning EM installation.
    We needed to move the database onto a different domain which meant that I needed to drop the repository and console and recreate them.
    The repository recreated without issue, however, when I tried recreate the console, entering the same information, I get an ora-1031 insufficient privileges error.
    I have looked on line for various solutions, but always hit the same error.
    N.B. it is running on windows and I am running the command as the domain administrator.
    any ideas?
    Thanks.

    can i get some help regarding this...

    Purpose:
    ~~~~~~~~
    Purpose of the document is to show the limitations of roles and privileges under
    PL/SQL.
    Due to these limitations, you may get errors in PL/SQL procedures/packages when
    accessing certain objects or packages, but the same code works in SQL*Plus
    The flagged errors are ORA-00942 or ORA-01933 or ORA-01031 and ORA-06512 or
    PLS-00201 and ORA-06550 or ORA-28111 with Fine Grained Auditing (FGA)
    Note that the generated errors may differ in each release.
    Explanation:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The fundamental misunderstanding with these problems is because of the misconception
    that roles that are granted to one user can be applied to another by intermediate
    objects such as views or pl/sql procedures, this is not possible, roles exist in
    sessions and are associated with a user in an active session only, the privileges
    of a role can not be transferred to objects.
    If you're accessing tables/views in PL/SQL procedure or package and getting
    either ORA-1031 or ORA-942 (or PLS-201), but the same select/update/insert/delete
    works ok on SQL*Plus, then you need to check if the privileges have been granted
    to the user creating the procedure via a role.
    Privileges granted via role are disabled inside stored procedures

  • Ora 1031

    hi,
    When I am trying to backup the oracle database in labntp server  I am getting ORA-01031 error.
    afd file looks like this.
    BR051I BRBACKUP 6.20 (135)
    BR055I Start of database backup: bdtjxftu.anf 2006-08-31 10.53.18

    BR301E SQL error -1031 at location ora_vers_get-5
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    BR303E Determination of RDBMS version failed
    i don't find any note about the parameter: "at location ora_vers_get-5".
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks
    vero.

    If you are running brbackup in UNIX, is the UNIX user part of the 'dba' group?
    Or if if you are using -u id/passwd, is this user part of the dba group?
    These are the first things that come to my mind.

    Is there an AFTER EVENT trigger defined on this database? Can you check that?
    Secondly, was this database migrated from earlier version? I remember having seen this problem on 9i (it was 9.2.0.1 or 9.2.0.2; I can't recall exactly).

  • Ora-01008 error with bind variable

    Hi,
    We have a test program which have one bind variable on a column which is varchar2(20), in the test program we've passed a 20 character string to the variable. The program returns error in one of the databases but all others are successful. We've checked the column is same in all of them.
    Exception in thread "main" java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-01008: not all variables bound
    Could you please advise how to troubleshoot this issue?
    Regards

    We aren't going to be able to help you if you won't post the database code that is giving the error.
    And now we need the Java code that is constructing the query that you are using.
    Your error is saying there is a second variable that you are not providing a value for.
    And you said
    >
    We have a test program which have one bind variable on a column which is varchar2(20), in the test program we've passed a 20 character string to the variable.
    >
    But you are using a string that is 23 characters long
