Spry Validation Problems.

I'm using a modified version of
Neil Dohertry's
Coda Slider. Everything works well except for validation. The
way the
the page is set
up, a large form (broken up into sections with their own
tables) and is panned across multiple divs. Spry Validation is used
on most of the form elements. the on blur and on change events seem
to work fine, but the on submit validation only works for the first
table in the first div. Nothing works after that. If I pull the
table from the the second div and stick it in the first, on submit
validation works.
So is something breaking my on submit validation when my form
elements are placed in multiple divs?

Hey folks,
Surprisingly, I figured out that the code is working fine when I clicked "Live View".
So the problem actually was my local host wasn't set up correctly.
For those having the same problem on windows 7 & cs5, make sure that:
iis service is running on ur machine
the testing server is set up on dreamweaver - in my case it was a local connection anf not ftp. Remember to specify your site folder when you do this.
you copy the site folder to (in my case) xampp/htdocs or whatever localhost service you are using.

  • Spry validation problem for long forms

    I used the Spry Validation Widgets for my form validation. It
    works great, BUT the problem is that if you have a very long form
    and the user doesn’t fill in one of the top required fields,
    it doesn’t scroll the browser back up to the required field,
    or present a message next to the submit button telling the person
    that not all required fields have been filled in. Nothing appears
    to happen at all, which would be confusing to users. I added my own
    message underneath the Submit button which reads "If this form does
    not submit, check for required entries at the top of this page.*",
    but is there a way to add an extra popup message that could appear
    next to the Submit button instead? (I know that we can't mix the
    Validate Form behavior with the Spry Validation widgets.)

    Came across the same issue as well. To solve this I added in
    three lines of code into the 'SpryValidationTextField.js' file that
    is created via DW. Inside of that include look for the following
    code:
    if (!Spry.Widget.Form.validate) {
    Spry.Widget.Form.validate = function(vform) {
    var isValid = true;
    var isElementValid = true;
    var q = Spry.Widget.Form.onSubmitWidgetQueue;
    var qlen = q.length;
    for (var i = 0; i < qlen; i++) {
    if (!q
    .isDisabled() && q.form == vform) {
    isElementValid = q
    .validate();
    isValid = isElementValid && isValid;
    return isValid;
    Right before you return the "isValid" parameter you want to
    check and see if the value is false. If it is, have the page
    refreshed to a specific html anchor. For example:
    if (isValid == false) {
    window.location.hash = "formtop";
    return isValid;
    Where "formtop" is would be the name of your html anchor tag
    on the page. So right before my html form starts I have:
    <a name="formtop"></a>
    Hope that helps ... enjoy!

  • Spry validation select widget problem

    Dreamweaver CS3
    Im using spry validation for my form but the two spry validation select widgets I am using are not working. When I test them I keep getting errors that nothing has been selected when something has in fact been selected. I've used spry validation before with no problems but this is the first time using the spry validation select widget.
    My code:

    Hi Daniel,
    Im having the same problem, can you please tell me what you did? I understand you found the problem?
    Thank you!

  • Spry Validation Select problem. It's not "sticking"

    Used Spry validation a few times, no big deal. Insert the widget, tweak, upload, done.
    I'm trying to validate one single drop down menu. I go to Insert, Spry Validation Select, I get the little blue "tab" thing attached to the drop down, and we're all good.
    I close the doc, open it back up and it's no longer there. You can click on the drop down menu, and no blue tab comes up for the spry.
    This doc is on a template, in an un-editable area.
    It seems to write the code to the page, you can find it if you look, but it's just not working.
    I know this is a long shot, but has anyone had this issue with Spry?
    I've been screwing around with this one doc for days trying to figure it out. I even went as far as pulling a backup copy that had never been "spry'd" before and starting over.
    Same result.
    A page that should have the spry working is:
    http://wolfe-florist-waco.com/online-flowers/ED-101.html
    Thanks.

    Suggest you start by cleaning up the code and validating the page
    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwolfe-florist-waco.com%2Fonline-flowers%2FE D-101.html&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
    The link you posted is a page within a page (multiple Doctypes etc).
    Are you using Server Side Includes to pull code into the page? If so, the Include cannot be a self-contained page. It must be a code fragment only so that when it's pulled into the page, the resultant code forms a complete, valid web page.

  • Spry validation textfield errors are appearing as regular text

    I am trying to create a simple email contact form using two spry validation text fields and one spry validation textarea. I inserted a spry validation text field called "Name", and then a second below it called "email" and then a spry validation textarea called "message" I gave the email field an email validation to come on at Blur, and a textarea character count validation of no more than 400 characters. The problem is that the error messages are appearing as soon as the page is loaded, they are bypassing their initial states. They say: "A value is required.Invalid format." and "A value is required.Exceeded maximum number of characters."

    I build a sample a while ago that shows you how to generate and destroy validations on the fly.
    http://www.spry-it.com/examples/spry-widget-validation-generation-and-destroy/
    Check out the source for how its done.

  • After Spry validation how to redirect to a "you have successfully register" page

    I am helping a friend set up a webpage for her business.  You can see the website here www.themessagetext.com.  I used a Spry validation for the phone number and the checkbox.  One the validation is verified, I want the user to be redirected to a page that says that they have successfully register.  Right now it takes you to an ugly page.  It looks like an error page, but it says that you have successfully register.
    I am using Internet Explorer 7.  I am also using CS4 Dreamweaver.  I am also usingSpryValidationCheckbox.css - version 0.4 - Spry Pre-Release 1.6.1 and SpryValidationTextField.css - version 0.4 - Spry Pre-Release 1.6.1
    I am new to web design.  So if you can be as specific as possible I would appreciate it.  I don't even know where in the code it tells the form after it is submitted to redirect to this certain page.

    Sorry I did post the wrong code for the wrong page.  Here is the code for the right page.  The more I thought about it I figured it was a design problem.  Should I post it somewhere else since this form is for Spry.

  • Spry Validation Select ultimate beginner

    Hello to all,
    I need help with the spry validation select thingy.  Basically, I am not a programmer, so code stuff won't help me much.  I need a bit of a walkthrough:
    The problem:
    1) I need 2 validation select boxes with about 10 choices each.
    2) I need an activation button  - that is, when the correct choices are selected, the user presses a button to take them to the right webpage.
    3) I need the choices within each select box to (obviously) direct the user to a different page once the activation button is pressed.
    My solution so far:
    1) I can insert the 2 validation select boxes into dreamweaver, with what i think is the correct naming, etc.  I can also set the 10 choices for each.  I do not know what the "value" tab means in the "list values" button I use to name and set the number of choices.
    2) I can insert the button as well (just insert, nothing else)
    3) I am not able to link the 10 choices with anything - I simply don't know how to do that, and cannot find info about it.  When I live preview my work so far I get 2 nice drop/validation boxes with 10 choices each, and a button.  I now need to, given a specific choice and after the button is pressed, to take the user to a different webpage with information about the double selection they chose.
    I hope the above is clear enough - in the end, I will have 100 seperate webpages that need to be linked to the choices (10 choices in one box times 10 choices in the other box), I just need a way to link those choices to the webpages.  Any basic and non-code based help would be very appreciated,
    Cheers,
    P

    I need help with the spry validation select thingy.  Basically, I am not a programmer, so code stuff won't help me much.  I need a bit of a walkthrough:
    You have got no hope!
    1) I need 2 validation select boxes with about 10 choices each.
    You have stated that you have already done this. The value of the select element can be found here http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_select.asp
    2) I need an activation button  - that is, when the correct choices are selected, the user presses a button to take them to the right webpage.
    You have stated that you have already done this
    Seeing that you have already done the above, these are no longer a problem. This leaves us with
    3) I need the choices within each select box to (obviously) direct the user to a different page once the activation button is pressed.
    For this we would need to see your markup in situ. Please supply a link to your site.

  • Spry Validation

    Hi there,
    I am trying to use the spry validation in my form. But that form has already a server side validation in the form element.
    When I try to insert the spry validation for a text field for example I have this error message:
    "While executing inspectSelection in spry_ValidationTextField.htm, a JavaScript error occurred."
    Does it mean that I cannot put a Spry validation after I've inserted a PHP validation?
    What am I doing wrong?
    Help me please.
    Thank you!

    Having both client side JavaScript and server side validation is a good "belt and suspenders" tactic, especially if you are making sure the right kind of data is submitted to avoid errors on the database. Trying to mix your validation within the form itself could get messy however. You might want to try this...
    Have all the Spry validation in the form to "pre test" your data before it's ever submitted. This will catch 95% of the problems.
    If you really want to be 100% sure, you can include a block of server side validation on the target page for the form before you process any of the data. If any of the data fails you send the user back to the form, re populate the form with the form variables they sent the first time and display an error for the field that failed.
    Sorry, this isn't as simple of an answer as you may have been looking for, this requires quite a bit of coding, but it's a 100% sure way to validate the data before writing it to your database.
    Hope this helps.

  • Spry validation disables Submit button

    Hey,
    I'm using spry validation on text boxes and dropdown menu's
    .. for some reason, on certain pages when the form is submitted and
    validated, if there's a problem with one of the fields, the submit
    button is disabled and won't enable again. Any ideas on how I can
    stop this from happening?

    Bump :o)

  • Spry Validation within Editable Region of Template

    Hello all,
    Spry Validation Field is not working on this page where the
    code is within an editable region of a template based page:
    http://www.nprducati.com/newsite/service.html
    The same exact code works on a "normal" HTML page.
    Anyone else encounter this or has any ideas why it's failing?
    Rich

    Spry validation would not be affected by being located within
    a template
    editable region, since editable regions are only indicated by
    the use of
    HTML comment tags, i.e., meaningless to a browser.
    Most likely the problem is the link here -
    <script src="SpryAssets/SpryValidationTextField.js"
    type="text/javascript"></script>
    It appears that you have not made the link properly in the
    Template file,
    since the corresponding link for the menu is this -
    var MenuBar1 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar("MenuBar1",
    {imgRight:"../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    You might also want to take care of these errors -
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nprducati.com%2Fnewsite%2Fser vice.html

  • Spry validation stops me writing a MySQL record

    Good morning,
    This is very strange and has been driving me nuts for a couple of days now. Using DW CS6/ Win 7/ IE 11/ FF/ Chrome.
    I had an application form that worked correctly, validated input and wrote a new record to a MySQL db. I had to develop a very similar web page so I took the existing page and updated it.
    I have found, after a lot of trial and error, that I can write a new record containing valid data but spry doesn't work - no validation and no hints appear in the text boxes. Or, I can get spry validation to work but the web page hangs when I try and write a new record.
    Amongst other changes, the old page had a checkbox which I deleted from the new page and there are no other checkboxes on the page. When i remove the js  "var sprycheckbox2 = new Spry.Widget.ValidationCheckbox("sprycheckbox2");" Spry validation works, hints appear etc but the page hangs when I click the "Next Step" button which should write to the db. if I leave the js for the widget in the page I don't get any spry validation or hints but the record is written to the db. In both cases I had commented out the link to "SpryValidationCheckbox.js".
    Here's a link to the version which has the widget http://www.hollisterairshow.com/rally/vendorApp2.php?blapp=inline&tspapp=inline&tfpapp=inl ine , this has no hints in the text boxes and spry validation doesn't happen at all, but it does write a record to the db. here's a link to the version where I commented out the js for the checkbox widget - it's the second one in the list of widgets at the end of the page. I made no other changes http://www.hollisterairshow.com/rally/vendorApp3.php?blapp=inline&tspapp=inline&tfpapp=inl ine
    It looks like the widgets were added at the end of the google analytics code but I don't know if this is relevant.
    I'm also getting widgets listed as missing when I open the page in DW, the checkbox I referred to is the first one listed below, could this be relevant? Do I just delete the js for each of the widgets listed?  Sorry if this is a basic question, I'm getting very confused at this point.
    i'd really appreciate some direction in trying to fix this.
    Thanks,
    Tony

    I took a look at jqueryvalidate and it looks straightforward, my only reservation is that it doesn't appear to support hints in the form fields e.g. in a zip code field "5 digit Zip" etc. I googled around and found yet another library that claims to do this. So now I'm looking at adding two libraries I'm not familiar with and rewriting my form.
    I was really hoping a fresh pair of eyes could spot something I'm missing - the old version of this form worked, and still works. When I added/ deleted a few fields to the new version my problems started.
    Thanks again..

  • Spry Validation Error in Internet Explorer

    Hi,
    I have a PHP form with Spry Validation for Textfields and Selction.
    The init part in the HTML form looks like this:
          var spryradioanrede = new Spry.Widget.ValidationRadio("spryradioanrede", {isRequired:true, validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldvorname = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldvorname", "none", {isRequired:true,  validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldnachname = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldnachname", "none", {isRequired:true,  validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldstrasse = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldstrasse", "none", {isRequired:true,  validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldhausnummer = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldhausnummer", "none", {  validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldplz = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldplz", "none", {useCharacterMasking:true, pattern:"00000", validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldort = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldort", "none", {isRequired:true,  validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldemail = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldemail", "email", { validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldvorwahl = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldvorwahl", "none", {validation:isNumeric,isRequired:false,  validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldrufnummer = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldrufnummer", "none", {validation:isNumeric, isRequired:false,  validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldausweisnummer = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldausweisnummer", "none", {validation:isValididentitycard,  validateOn:["blur"]});
           var sprytextfieldstaatsangehoerigkeit = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfieldstaatsangehoerigkeit", "none", {isRequired:true,  validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var spryselectfieldtag = new Spry.Widget.ValidationSelect("spryselectfieldtag", {isRequired:true, validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var spryselectfieldmonat = new Spry.Widget.ValidationSelect("spryselectfieldmonat", {isRequired:true, validateOn:["change,blur"]});
           var spryselectfieldjahr = new Spry.Widget.ValidationSelect("spryselectfieldjahr", {isRequired:true, validateOn:["change,blur"]});
    When loading the page an error in Internet Explorer 8 occures:

    When loading the page the first time it's not a big problem. But when the users enters some unvalid data the page lodes again and in the onload section from the body the function validateall is startet.
    function validateall()    {
                    status = 0;
                    status += spryradioanrede.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldvorname.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldnachname.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldstrasse.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldstrasse.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldplz.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldort.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldemail.validate()
                    status += sprytextfieldvorwahl.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldrufnummer.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldausweisnummer.validate();
                    status += sprytextfieldstaatsangehoerigkeit.validate();
                    status += spryselectfieldtag.validate();
                    status += spryselectfieldmonat.validate();
                    status += spryselectfieldjahr.validate();
                    if (status < 15) {
                        return 0;
                    } else {
                        return 1;
    The error occurs again and the validation is not yet done. Which means, that the fields with problems will not be marked. When entering the field afterward and changing or blur everything works ok and the field is marked in red. Only the onload is not working.
    Any ideas, what the problem is?
    Thank
    Michael

    It seems to be an Error in Spry,
    Open the SpryValidationTextField.js
    find:
    Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField.prototype.reset = function() {
         this.removeHint();
         this.oldValue = this.input.defaultValue;
         this.resetClasses();
         if (Spry.is.ie) {
              //this will fire the onpropertychange event right after the className changed on the container element
              //IE6 will not fire the first onpropertychange on an input type text after a onreset handler if inside that handler the className of one of the elements inside the form has been changed
              //to reproduce: change the className of one of the elements inside the form from within the onreset handler; then the onpropertychange does not fire the first time
              this.input.forceFireFirstOnPropertyChange = true;
              this.input.removeAttribute("forceFireFirstOnPropertyChange");
         var self = this;
         setTimeout(function() {self.putHint();}, 10);
    and replace with:
    Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField.prototype.reset = function() {
         this.removeHint();
         this.oldValue = this.input && this.input.defaultValue ? this.input.defaultValue : "";
         this.resetClasses();
         if (Spry.is.ie) {
              //this will fire the onpropertychange event right after the className changed on the container element
              //IE6 will not fire the first onpropertychange on an input type text after a onreset handler if inside that handler the className of one of the elements inside the form has been changed
              //to reproduce: change the className of one of the elements inside the form from within the onreset handler; then the onpropertychange does not fire the first time
              this.input.forceFireFirstOnPropertyChange = true;
              this.input.removeAttribute("forceFireFirstOnPropertyChange");
         var self = this;
         setTimeout(function() {self.putHint();}, 10);

  • Spry validation disappears - leaves widget code

    I have added the spry validation to my form fields many
    times. This particular form, I have had to add them twice already
    and now I got an error that says the javascript for widgets that
    are missing are still on the page. I see the widget javascript at
    the bottom of my page in code view. I also see other changes I made
    to the form fields at the same time that I added the spry
    validation. So I am not imagining that I already did this.
    What could have happened to make the validation disappear?
    has this every happened to any of you?

    Hi Daniel,
    Im having the same problem, can you please tell me what you did? I understand you found the problem?
    Thank you!

  • Spry menu problem - CS6 Dreamweaver

    I wonder if anyone can help me with my spry menu problem which I have with a fixed 960px wide horizonal menu bar that has 8 items in it. The sub-menus don't seem to display properly when you click on them in that some of the submenus only show up at the end of the menu bar itself in Explorer browsers 8/9. Does anyone know of any code I can apply to fix this problem? I am new to spry menu features and so any help would be very much appreciated.

    Also validate the rest of the code in your pages to see if you have any critical errors that need fixing.  For example, a missing doc type declaration might explain Spry failures.
    CSS - http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
    HTML - http://validator.w3.org/
    As an FYI, Adobe abandonded the Spry Framework late last year, after CS6 was released because Spry drop-menus don't hold up well on touch screen devices.   If you can't get satisfaction with Spry, try jQuery Superfish.  It's a better menu system.

  • DW Spry validation ignored

    I am new this and a novice. Please help.
    DW (CS3) Spry validation works fine on local, but when
    published ignores all validation rules. The web page calls the form
    in an iframe. IE7 also shows display error (… is null or not
    an object).
    Is there a workaround please.
    Jan

    Hello Jan,
    There are 2 possible issues but both will require us to have
    a look to your page. The first problem that I'm thinking of is that
    the HTML in the iframe is loaded from a different location then the
    main HTML page. This implies some security restrictions that are
    prohibiting our widgets to get some context information we need.
    The second possible issue appear from the implementation
    itself were we refer the document itself instead of the document
    owner which is different when iframes are used and which can
    prevent us as well to obtain the information I mentioned you
    earlier.
    In both cases we need to see your page, determine the exact
    lines of code that are not working and search for solutions.
