SQL 2008 SP2 installation

Dear Experts,
We recently under gone SAP Post go-live check. In the report SAP suggested for database patch updation.i am using standalone server,my SAP application is CRM 7. and database SQL 2008 SP1. I plan to install SQL 2008 SP2 . please answer me for the following Questions .
1) Is it really need to stop SAP application while installing SQL 2008 SP2
2) is it need to install SAP 2008 SP1 CU6 before installing SQL 2008 SP2.
let me know any steps to follow to upgrade SQL 2008 Swevice pack.
Thanks
Jyothish

Its not mandatory to update Cumulative updates (CU). You can apply SP2 without updating CU.
Cumulative updates (CU) are released by Microsoft every couple months. A CU contains fixes for issues in SQL Server, and it allows Microsoft to distribute fixes in between releases of Service Packs which come out a lot less frequently. CUs are intended to correct very specific problems. Microsoft recommends that CUs are applied only to systems that are experiencing the specific problems identified in the documentation for the CUs.

  • Error while trying to upgrade SQL 2008 (SP2) to SQL 2012: There was a failure to calculate the applicability of setting LICENSEPATH.

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade one of our SQL Server Enterprise (2008 (SP2)) to 2012. I am using the upgrade option but it gives me the following error:
Error Code 0x85640002: There was a failure to calculate the applicability of setting LICENSEPATH
We have downloaded the image from our Volume Licensing account. Also, the same image was used to install SQL 2012 on Windows Server 2012 R2 servers without any issues.
Below is the install summary.txt. I have tried everywhere but no go. Would really appreciate any assistance.

Culture ID 3072 (0x0C00) is not a supported culture.
                            Parameter name: culture
This appears to be the root problem. It seems that the regional settings on this machine is messed up. 0x0C00 is an unusual LCID, they do not normally not end in two zeroes.
is there a custom culture installed on this machine?
Review the regional settings and also check the System locale. If it looks spooky, set it to Arabic - U.A.E. if this is where you are located.

I wanted to install SQL Express 2008 on my Win 8.1 desktop. It gives an error indicating that I should install Visual Studio 2008 SP1 first. I tried, but SP1 installation fails. I also tried to remove VS2008 completely but I still get the same fail when
    installing SQL 2008 Express.
Now I cannot even  install SQL Manager 2008, to manage database on SQL server.

    Hello,
You should install SQL Server 2008 Express with SP3 included to make it compatible with Windows 8.1. Please try the following download:

  • Crystal Reports 2008 SP2 Installation Error

    Howdy Folks...
I have been trying to install the SP2 for Crystal Reports.
    I get the following error...
"The installaion source for this product is not available.  Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."
Running the downloaded file, unpacks the contents, starts the installer, then the error message is displayed.
System is with Windows Vista SP2
Your help and advice is needed...
    Thanks,
    Jim

Yes, mapping the network drive on the install PC works, technically.  Unfortunately, it doesn't resolve my core problem for two reasons.
    1.  I'm trying to make the install procedure as touchless as possible for an install base of potentially hundreds of users.  Having them all map a network drive would defeat the purpose.
    2.  I oversimplified the explanation of my situation to make the question easier to ask.  We actually have a home-grown, web-based client software distribution tool from which I'm trying to setup the installation.  The network drive, and generally all details of the installation are transparent to the installer, so that's another strike against mapping the network drive.
Here's the command line script (nothing fancy) and the code of the supplemental .ini file that I'm using.  (This assumes that the self-extracting Crystal SP2 file has already been extracted and that I'm working directly with the setup.exe, setup.ini, and package files.)
And to reiterate, this scripting procedure has worked like a charm for Xcelsius SP3 and Crystal SP1.  It just falls flat on its face for Crystal SP2
    Batch Script:
    setup.exe -r Crystal2008SP2.ini
    Crystal2008SP2.ini:
    [OTHER]
    QUIET=/qb+
    [INSTALL]

  • P6 v.7 configuration question (SQL 2008)

I'm in the process of creating a server to test a client/server deployment of P6 before we go live with it, but in reviewing the tested configurations in the Oracle knowledgebase I do not see our config, and I just wanted to see if anyone has successfullly used the one I want to go with. The config is:
    Windows Server 2008 X64 R2 SP1 on a Virtual in Hyper V (4 GB RAM, 2 Virtual processors)
    SQL 2008 with SP2
Specifically looking for if anyone has tested it with SQL 2008 SP2. We can forego installing the service packs on SQL if they seem to cause issues.
Thanks for any advice you all can give.

While I have not personally tested SQL 2k8 SP2 I doubt you will have any issues.
What you may be concerned with however is that when running on an unofficially-supported platform the vendor may chose not to assist you should something go severely wrong down the road. In Primavera's case I have never seen this to be a problem but now that Oracle has taken over things could potentially be different (especially in the case of MS SQL as I imagine they will eventually stop supporting it altogether).

  • Linked server issue using SQLNCLI versions on SQL 2008 & 2014

    Hi all,
Our product creates databases on a sql server 2008 instance and creates linked servers between them to use distributed queries.
This looks like: "EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'linkDatabaseA', '', 'SQLNCLI10', '.', NULL, NULL, 'DatabaseA'"".
Distributed queries from second database to DatabaseA work fine in this scenario.
As we want to support both SQL 2008 and SQL 2014 in the next product version, I changed this to SQLNCLI11 as the provider
and tested on SQL 2008 after installation of the SQLNCLI11 driver.
This resulted in following error message:
    Msg 468, Level 16, State 9, Line 7
Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "Latin1_General_CI_AS" and "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" in the equal to operation.
This is very suprising as the SQL Server 2008 instance and both DB's have "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" as their collation sequence.
Then I tried the opposite, installing SQLNCLI10 on SQL 2014. This gave exactly same error! Using SQLNCLI11 went fine ofcourse.
Generation sp_addlinkedserver statements with correct driver based on SQL version, I'd rather not do (some of the calls are
generated in SQL from settings in other db tables which are also used for external connx) and adding COLLATE to the queries also
has consequences like performance degradation. Adding collate on SQL 2014 with SQLNCLI10 as linked server provider results in
    following error:
    Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1617
The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "linkDatabaseA" reported an error. Access denied.
    Msg 7301, Level 16, State 2, Line 1617
Cannot obtain the required interface ("IID_IDBCreateCommand") from OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "linkDatabaseA".
Q: Is there any way that SQLNCLI11 can be made to work for linked servers on SQL2008 (preferred solution) or SQLNCLI10 on SQL2014?
    Thx for any feedback.
    Regards, Jouke

    Hi Sofiya,
    Thx for replying.
For the deployment reasons  mentioned above, I would prefer to use only one SQLNCLI version in both 2008R2 & 2012/2014 scenario's. Most preferred would ofcourse be SQLNCLI11 as this is the latest.
This would mean that I'd like to be able to configure linked server in SQL2008R2 using SQLNCLI11 driver.
I would expect that it would be downward compatible with SQLNCLI10 for all client usage, including linked server, which in essence is one SQL DB doing client access to another SQL DB either on same server instance or another. I suspect it requests DB
metadata from remote DB in order to make decisions and this seems not to work in my setup. If this metadata API is part of the public API, this could indicate that medadata API has been broken in SQLNCLI11 (heavy speculation on my part here!), which could
also affect other usage (eg. linked server between SQL2008(R2) and SQL2012/2014 instances, (I'll try to set this up and test this, might take a few days. If someone is volunteering, below are db table schemes and query, update @datasrc to point to remote sql
    server instance)).
    Regards, Jouke

    Hi Jouke Numan,
According to your description, I install SQL Native Client 11.0 OLE DB Provider in SQL Server 2008R2, and as you post, create two database on the same instance with collation in server default, then create Linked Server with SQLNCI11.0.
When I run the query statement, it can execute well. It also do not occur the collation conflict. I still recommend you check the collation of server, database, or column and so on.
SQL Server Native Client 11.0 provides OLE DB support to applications connecting to SQL Server versions 2005, 2008, 2008R2, 2012. So for the deployment reasons, you can choose the only SQLNCLI11.0 in both SQL Server 2008R2 and SQL Server 2012/2014.

  • SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 installation hangs during extract phase

    Greetings!
I am having an issue with trying to silent install SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 (x86).
I have a proprietary installation framework, which is calling the SQL Server Express installer.
The SQL Server Express installer starts extracting files to c:\{some guid}. The folder reaches about 11 mb in size, and then nothing further happens. No activity on the machine, CPU or disk - I have waited up to 15 minutes to verify this. On the normal installation,
the size of this folder is ~650 mb.
Here are the things I've also tested:
    - I'm experiencing these symptoms on both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2012 R2 (haven't tested other platforms)
    - If I launch exactly the same command from the command prompt, the installation goes through as normal
    - If I replace the SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 with SQL Server Express 2012 SP1, and install via our installation framework, the installation goes through as normal
    - I have checked and double-checked that our installation framework is started with administrative privileges.
    - From my previous search attempts, I have seen issues where the installer would hang or fail when launched from inside an msi, which would result in a log in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\<something something>. These are not the symptoms
I am experiencing. The C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\ folder is not even created!
Any suggestions, or places I can look to figure out why it's not proceeding? For now, I have worked around the issue by including SP1 instead of SP2, but ideally I'd like to base my solution on the most recent service pack.

    Hello Alberto!
The installation framework does check for this. I'm also certain that these prerequisites are fulfilled.
When the SQL Server process hangs, I can kill the process, copy/paste the exact command that was executed from the installation framework's log files, and execute that command in a command prompt - and then the installation runs as expected.
The installation framework installs SQL Server Express correctly if I use the 2008 R2 SP1 express or the 2012 SP1 Express installer. It's just the SP2 installer that is giving me problems.
The only difference I can think of is that the installation framework is a 32-bit process, which calls the SQL Server installer, while the command prompt is a 64-bit application. I am installing the SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.exe
from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43351, so it should be compatible with my 32 bit environment -
"SQLEXPR_x86 is the same product but supports installation onto both 32-bit and 64-bit (WoW) operating systems"
    Tomorrow, I will try:
    - Installing on Windows 7 32-bit
    - Trying to launch the SQL Server installer from a powershell (x86) prompt, to emulate a 32-bit environment on a 64-bit machine

  • Problems install SCCM 2012 with remote sql 2008 r2 sp2

I am having issues installing sccm 2012 on a remote sql 2008 r2 sp2 server on a seperate instance.
I get the error "The network path was not found"
if i point it at the primary instance it will let me continue but i cannot install sccm into that instance.
I have turned off dynamic ports and set a static port but I do not see where i can enter that in the installer.
I cannot seem to verify is the ssb port is working correctly or not.
my account is local admin on both servers and a sql sysadm.
There is no firewall between servers.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards
    Don

SPN is setup to AUTO register and is working.  remote sql is not a cluster.  Windows firewall on both servers is disabled.  Sql browser is enabled and started.  we have a group for system center that contains site servers and this group
is in the local admin of both servers and sysadm inside of sql server.
Why  we are consolidating all or our lesser sql servers into a larger one.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation Media Root Directory location for XP SP3?

Where is the SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation Media director?  This question asks during a 'new installation or add features to an existing installation'.  The installation media root directory is not indicated under 'options'.  I trying side-by-side
installation next to SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.
It appears that C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2 (where 1033_ENU_LP, Resources, and x86 dirs are installed) is the installation media root directory, but is is not a valid folder.
Also tried copying the 1033_ENU_LP, Resources, and x86 dirs from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2 into a directory that I created in c:\2008R2installationDir, and then running setup.exe, but still do not have
an installation media root dir specified under options.

There is no DVD; SQLServer2008R2SP2-KB2630458-x86-ENU.exe was downloaded.  This problem occurs when setup.exe is run, after running *ENU.exe to download the files.  Specifying the directory where the
    SQLServer2008R2SP2-KB2630458-x86-ENU.exe doesn't help.
    >>It doesn't seem like any instances have been installed, yet.  Nothing shows up under Administrative Toos | Services.  Under Start | Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 , there are two choices:  Configuration Tools and Documentation&Tutorials.
    Hello,
What seems to me that you have downloaded SP2 for SQL server 2008 R2(SQLServer2008R2SP2-KB2630458-x86-ENU.exe ).And as you say you dont find any thing under SQL 2008 r2.So i guess that is why SP2 installation is not moving
ahead. Can you download SQL server 208 R2 setup again and install database engine and ither fetures with client tools. And then you can move ahead with SP2 installation

  • SQL 2008 R2 SP2 release to WSUS

    Hello,
With the recent release of SQL 2008 R2 SP2 I was curious as to when Microsoft will be pushing it out to WSUS services? I've already done some testing in our environment with a manual download of it, but I was hoping to release it to my production servers
for a upcoming maintenance night through the proper channels in WSUS. I haven't been able to find any further details on the average release to WSUS time-frame, so I was hoping someone here could shed some light on the matter.
    Thanks in advance,

Hi everyone, here is the official word on this from Microsoft
Just finished the brainstorm with our security guys and did some internal search, please refer to below details.
Between June 21 2012 and August 14th 2012, the internal servers which sign Microsoft software were misconfigured, as a result the signatures on a significant number of internally and externally distributed software
by Microsoft will expire prematurely on 01/10/2013 .  The result of the signature expiration is that software binaries will be viewed as untrusted, causing them to be invalidated by Microsoft Update, fail installation, and/or detected by 3rd party security
software. This issue is not limited to Windows operating systems nor is it limited to Security Updates; it may have unexpected consequences across all products, as a full listing of affected products is still under investigation.  Depending on how the
different products were signed, there are several expiration “milestones” which will occur between November 2012 and summer 2013.
As a failsafe mitigation, Windows released a bulletin in October as  Microsoft Security Advisory (2749655)
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/2749655
This effectively catches the WinVerifyTrust API calls in the operating system and returns success to the calling program (e.g. SQL Server) if a specific faulty certificate is detected.
What SQL Server Products were affected: One of the SQL Server components that was affected was SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 that was released in July. For this reason, SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 was scheduled
to be released via WSUS in August but was put on hold when this issue surfaced. During the testing, Other than Untrusted Publisher errors when executing a small number of affected release packages, and CAPI2 Event Log errors on WinVerifyTrust calls, no ‘hard’
SQL Server installation or runtime failures have been identified. For this reason, we are not re-releasing SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2.
SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 is not being released to Windows update because it is affected by the issue described in the
    Microsoft Security Advisory (2749655)
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/2749655.
Users are required to get the update via download center.
SP2 is the only update that is affected by this issue and future updates will continue to be made available via WSUS.
In a word, honest speaking, this is a Microsoft product issue, and so I’m afraid manual installation would be the only choice. I will mark this case as non-decrement. Sincerely apologize for the inconvenience for
    you.
    Thanks, Michael.

  • Problems using SQL Server 2014 upgrade advisor on a windows 2008 sp2 server

I got sql server 2014 upgrade advisor up and running on a windows 2012 vm and every thing works fine, but I am having trouble installing it locally for a SSRS Box. The SSRS box is running windows 2008 sp2 enterprise edition, but when I try
and run the SQLUA.msi install nothing happens.
    anyone else experience this issue?

    Hi jesse,
    Welcome to the forum :-)
Can you please clarify your issue in more details. I did not understand what you are doing. What do you mean by "installing it locally for a SSRS Box". Do you mean that you are trying a simple installation which do not work, and raise an error?
If so then (1) we dont need the extra information about "why you need the SQL Server" :-) we just need to help you install it regardless the SSRS. (2) We do need the full error log and the error message that you get.
By the way, The SQLUA.msi is just a small utilities named "Upgrade Advisor"
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144256.aspx
Do you want to install the SQL Server itself?
What is your current SQL Server on the local windows 2008 server?

  • Any known issues with SCOM 2007 R2 after upgrading to SP2 for SQL 2008 R2 ?

Are there any known or reported issues in SCOM 2007 R2 after installing SP2 for SQL server 2008 R2 ?  Currently running RTM version of SQL Server 2008 R2.

    Hi There,
As a testing purpose long time back i did this. I did this step by step
I installed SCOM 2007R2 with SQL server 2008 with SP1 initially.
    Then upgraded to 2008 SP2.
    Then upgraded to 2008 SP3
    Then upgraded to 2008 R2.
    Then upgraded to 2008 R2 SP1
    Finally to SP2
    I dint find any issue.
I just kept on adding service packs upon each other. Except for upgradation to 2008 to 2008 r2 i used the installation media then the SP1 & SP2 files. to upgrade to service packs.
If you want to go to directly SP2 i would suggest you install SP1 and then install SP2.
Every thing is fine in the LAB equipment i tried this.

  • SQL 2008 R2 SP2, CU 1 : There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer

Hi,  I know this has been posted before, but I couldn't find a solution. Currently I have a SQL 2008 R2 SP2 Enterprise 2 node cluster.
I want to keep it updated, and downloaded CU 1 from here:
    http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.com
    Version from query:
    Product Version       Service Pack       Edition
    10.50.4033.0          SP2                    Enterprise Edition (64-bit)
When running the installation, I get the window attached.
    Any clues?

As per the message you can only update your instance with a CU/KB if the build number will be above 10.52.4321.0 (which seems to be your current build) . As per
http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.co.uk/ you already have the latest one available for SQL Server. Hence you wont be able to install anything unless Microsoft comes up with a new CU :)
It seems this is what you already have -
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2977319/en-us
Now opening any KB article for any CU will have this portion Eg the KB
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2917531 has the below.
    Installation and deployment
We recommend that you test hotfixes before you deploy them in a production environment.
This cumulative package is intended to correct only the problems that are described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing these specific problems. The updates in
this package may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by any of these problems, we recommend that you wait for
the next SQL Server 2012 service pack
          (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2755533/            )
that contains the hotfixes in this package.

  • Data Services 4.0 installation with MS SQL 2008

    hey guys,
I am trying to install data services 4.0 on a windows server with MS SQL database as the repository database. So, my plan was to install MS SQL 2008 first, then IPS, then data services. But i am facing a problem in installation of MS SQL itself. I installed MS SQL with following features - database engine, client tools and management tools. The installation process was smooth and the sql server services (server and agent) both startup just fine. I installed a custom instance for the same.
But problem is when I open the management studio and try to connect to the database engine, it does not connect, I choose database engine as the server type, local hostname as the server name and windows authentication as the authentican type but it fails with the following error:
    TITLE: Connect to Server
    Cannot connect to <myservername>.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
    For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=MicrosoftSQLServer&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=53&LinkId=20476
    BUTTONS:
    OK
Any clues as to what is causing this ??? Or is it normal at this stage of installation ??  I am confused. I have already tried to reinstall the server, no good, nothing in the event logs either.
    Thanks,
    RS

    resolved via following:
In the TCP/IP Properties dialog box, on the IP Addresses tab, several IP addresses appear in the format IP1, IP2, up to IPAll. One of these is for the IP address of the loopback adapter, 127.0.0.1. Additional IP addresses appear for each IP Address on the computer. Right-click each address, and then click Properties to identify the IP address that you want to configure.
If the TCP Dynamic Ports dialog box contains 0, indicating the Database Engine is listening on dynamic ports, delete the 0.u201D
Once I deleted those zeros and put in 1433 for TCP ports on each IP address, voila!
