SQL DB Migration

Hi,
In my infra i have an instance with 10 Databases. And i am going to migrate 4 of them to new hardware.
I am planning to use Backup/Restore method to move the DBs to new hardware.
I will put the DBs in old server to SINGLE_USER mode.
Can you please tell me how to check the complete data is migrated to new server ?
I dont want to miss any transactions (data) from application.
And also how to compare the data between the old and new DBs ?
Regards,
Vinodh Selvaraj

Adding to Ashwin you can reduce downtime by using logshipping or mirroring
Logshipping
a. Set up logshipping from the source to destination server as usual. Keep the sync time 1 min (which is minimum).
b. On the day of migration, make sure the logbackups are in sync. Ask the application user to stop using the database
c. Stop all the logshipping jobs and then take the final tail log-backup and put the primary databases in no-recovery mode (this is just in case
you need to go back to primary).
d. restore the tail log backups on the secondary with
recovery bringing all the secondary databases online.

  • Difference in behavior of sql and pl/sql after migrating from 9i to 11g

after migrating our database from oracle 9i to oracle11g, the developpers are worry that the behavior of the queries and pl/sql procedures/functions will change
    example :
in 9i, select salary, count(*) from emp group by salary, it will display the rows sorted by salary
in 11gi, select salary, count(*) from emp group by salary, it will display the rows not sorted by default, we have to add the clause order by salary.
somebody could give the list of other difference in behavior (SQL and PL/SQL) agter migrating from 9i to 11g
    Thanks a lot.

Tell your developers: garbage in - garbage out. In relational databases only ORDER BY ensures row order. If your developers relied on GROUP BY implemented by SORT and therefore returning ordered rows they had to realize code they wrote is Oracle release dependent and sooner or later code would require changes. And that "sooner or later" is now reality. In newer versions ORACLE can do GROUP BY via SORT or via HASH. And if it is done via HASH - don't expect ordered results. So tell your developers "payback time".

  • SQL Developer Migration Workbench - Migrate only one Database?

    Hallo!
We want to use Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench Early Adopter for migrate some Databases from SQL 2000 to Oracle 10g R2 (on XP SP2 SQL Developer 1.1.2.25.79).
The first Database we can migrate to Oracle. The Loader files in OMW are better!
On next day the menu capture schema was not reachable ( gray) . What can we do?
    Thanks.
    Michael

    Michael,
<p>Have you seen the Getting Started guide? It looks like you have just started and not taken the next step. Once you are connected to your repository, select the SQL Server connection and use the "Capture..." option in the context menu for that connection.

  • Oracle SQL Developer vs Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench

    Gurus,
Can anybody let me know what's the difference between Oracle SQL Developer vs Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench tools.
I am in the process of Migrating MS-Access Application to APEX. So the example says me to use Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench. Is this part of Oracle SQL Developer? If yes, I know SQL Developer is free.
If not is Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench if free?
    Thanks and Regards

    Thank Oracle ;)
(well, it's the least they can do after you paid big $$$ for the database)

  • How to convert CLOB to BLOB with SQL Developer migration wizard?

    Hi,
According to our requirement, we need to only migrate data from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11. I use the SQL Developer 3.0.04 migration wizard to do it.
I do migration from SQL Server (database name: SCDS41P2) to Oracle (User name: HCDS41P2).
My migration steps are as below: (I need to modify the target schema, so I add the steps 2) and step 3) )
    1) Do migration by SQL Developer migration wizard;
    2) Remove the Converted Database Objects node from migration project;
    3) Re-do convert by SQL Developer migration wizard (contains changing the target schema);
When do step 1), the DBO_SCDS41P2 user is created automatically. CLOBTOBLOB_SQLDEVELOPER procedure is also created in this user.
I continued to run step 2) and step 3) with online mode. And find the table data which contains BLOB column can be moved into the target table. But from the Logging Page, I can't see the other detailed error info, so that I can't check which tables don't move data successfully.
Could you please tell me where the detail log file (e.g. contains every table's migration status) is if I use the online mode?
Additional, If I use offline mode to do step 3), I found the CLOB data can't be converted into BLOB automatically. Because in the load script (that is oracle_ctl.bat), only copy the source data to the CLOB column. After copy, it don't deal with the converting from CLOB to BLOB.
So could you please tell me how to convert CLOB to BLOB with offline mode?
    Thanks so much.

    Hi,
For your first question about logging - after the migration there will be an entry in the right hand panel for the migration project. If you open this there are various fields that give information about the status of each part of the migration. Does this give you the information you need ?
For the second problem about offline moving blob data have a look at the SQL*Developer documentation -
    Oracle® SQL Developer User’s Guide Release 3.0
    in the section -
2.2.8.1.4 Populating the Destination Database Using the Data Files
which describes the problem and how to get round it.

  • Best Practices: SQL - JDO Migration

Is there a Best Practices document that descibes SQL -> JDO migration.
    Thanks in advance.

SolarMetric does not. However, many of our users may have opinions.
Kodo does include a reverse mapping tool to auto-generate application
code and metadata which should help you get started. You should also
read our tutorials/examples which show some common use patterns from
    basics to J2EE.

  • Error in Migration Repository using Sql*Developer Migration Workbench

To migrate a MS access mdb database to Oracle using Sql*Developer Migration Workbench, I try to create first the the Migration Repository in SQL*Developer.
The repository is created, but under PACKAGES I could see that package MD_META has been compiled with errors.
    PACKAGE BODY AO_PERSONAL.MD_META@DMCAPX (AO_PERSONAL):
    Error(27,2): PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
    Error(30,23): PL/SQL: ORA-00904: : ungültiger Bezeichner
Well, when I ignore this and continue with the next step of the migration process "Capture Microsoft Access Exported XML file" to create the Captured Model, I get the following error message:
ORA-04063: package body "AO_PERSONAL.MD_META" enthält Fehler ORA-06508: PL/SQL: aufgerufene Programmeinheit : "AO_PERSONAL.MD_META" konnte nicht gefunden werden ORA-06512: in "AO_PERSONAL.MD_PROJECTS_TRG", Zeile 3 ORA-04088: Fehler bei der Ausführung von Trigger 'AO_PERSONAL.MD_PROJECTS_TRG'
Target database RDBMS is Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0. So the proposal of note 427916.1 to create the Repository in a 10.2 RDBMS does not solve the problem.
I even tried to use the Quick Migrate feature in SQL*Developer, but got the same error message.

"inserted value too large for column"
Is there a LOGON trigger on the database or user ?
I'd be surprised at SQL Developer trying to insert data into anything on connect.
I'd suspect code being executed by the database, maybe using a MODULE or PROGRAM from v$session or USERENV / SYS_CONTEXT.

  • Migration Verifier Tool for SQL Developer Migrations?

    Hi all,
The old Migration Workbench has an optional add on verification tool to verify migrations to Oracle.
I am looking for a similar migration verifier tool for the SQL Developer migration process.
Does one currently exist for SQL Developer migration tools?
    Regards,
    Ben Prusinski

    Hi Ben,
The old migration verifier seems to be at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//dmv/index.html
Sue Harper (Product Manager) would be the person to comment further probably through SQLDeveloper statement of direction:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/sqldeveloperstatementofdirection.htm
I do not see anything there.
There is a tools->database diff wizard which I have not looked into in detail and I doubt that applies for migrations.

  • SQL Dev Migration ignores views in mysql

The 'capture' process identifes views. The 'converted model' includes references to the views, but the 'generated' script does not contain any reference to the views. Thus views are never recreated. User permissions in target db are sufficient for creating views.
SQL developer lists "Failed to convert view vw_xyx" in "migration log" but provides no details as to why!

    Hi < Please Supply Name>,
Looks like you have attempted the migration using two features.
    *Migrate to Oracle
    *Copy to Oracle
    Migration To Oracle
With the Migrate to Oracle you said "i hav granted all mandatory permissions to the user".
This suggests that you expected the migrated objects to be created in an existing Oracle Schema.
This is not the default way SQL Developer migrates databases.
Instead SQL Developer will create a new schema for you (normally <sqlserverusername>_<sqlserver_databasename>) and create all the objects underneath this new schema.
When you choose the Connection in step 7 of the migration wizard. This connection is only used to connect to the database. The migrated objects are not created underneath this connections schema.
Instead this connection is used to create a new schema ( <sqlserverusername>_<sqlserver_databasename>) and the objects are placed under it.
You should choose a connection with enough privileges to create new Schemas. Like a connection to SYSTEM.
It is possible to migrate to an existing schema but explaining it here may confuse the issue.
So first I would migrate using a connection to SYSTEM and see if your new (<sqlserverusername>_<sqlserver_databasename>) is created in your Oracle database.
    Copy To Oracle
I'm not sure of the issue you encountered. Copy to Oracle is really only for small amounts of data and tables.
If you could supply the DDL of a table which is failing I could replicate the issue.

    Dermot

  • DB2 to Oracle conversion using SQL Developer Migration Wizard - different schemas

I am performing a conversion between DB2  to Oracle 11 XE, using the SQL Developer Migration Wizard. Specifically I am trying to migrate the DB2User schema over to Oracle.
Using the migration wizard, when I pick the Oracle target connection to be the same schema ( DB2User schema ) the migration is successful and all data is converted.
However if I pick a different Oracle target connection ( say OracleUser ) , I run into issues.
Firstly , the table schema is not created. When I check the project output directory, the .out file has the following errors:
CREATE USER DB2User IDENTIFIED BY DB2User DEFAULT TABLESPACE USERS TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP
            SQL Error: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
            01031. 00000 -  "insufficient privileges"
        connect DB2User/DB2User
        Error report:
        Connection Failed
        Commit
Connection created by CONNECT script command disconnected
I worked around this by manually executing the .sql in the project output directory using the OracleUser id  in the new DB.
Then I continue with the migration wizard and perform the Move Data step.
Now - the message appears as succuessful, however, when I review the Migrationlog.xml file, i see errors as follows:
    <level>SEVERE</level>
      <class>oracle.dbtools.migration.workbench.core.logging.MigrationLogUtil</class>
<message>Failed to disable constraints: Data Move</message>
      <key>DataMove.DISABLE_CONSTRAINTS_FAILED</key>
      <catalog>&lt;null&gt;</catalog>
      <param>Data Move</param>
      <param>oracle.dbtools.migration.workbench.core.logging.LogInfo@753f827a</param>
      <exception>
<message>java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist</message>
      <level>WARNING</level>
      <class>oracle.dbtools.migration.datamove.online.TriggerHandler</class>
      <message>ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    </message>
I think what is happening is that the wizard is attempting to perform the 'move data' process using the DB2User id.
How do I tell the wizard that the target schema is different than my source schema.
My requirement is that I need to be able to migrate the DB2User schema to different schemas in the same Oracle database
( since we will have multiple test environments under the same database ) .
    Thanks in advance .
    K.

Perhaps the following from the SQL Developer documentation is helpful for you:
    Command-Line Interface for Migration
As an alternative to using the SQL Developer graphical interface for migration operations, you can use the migration batch file (Windows) or shell script (Linux) on the operating system command line. These files are located in the sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin folder or sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin directory under the location where you installed SQL Developer.
migration.bat or migration.sh accepts these commands: capture, convert, datamove, delcaptured, delconn, delconverted, driver, generate, guide, help, idmap, info, init, lscaptured, lsconn, lsconverted, mkconn, qm, runsql, and scan. For information about the syntax and options, start by running migration without any parameters at the system command prompt. For example:
    C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin>migration
You can use the -help option for information about one or more actions. For the most detailed information, including some examples, use the -help=guide option. For example:
    C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin>migration -help=guide

  • SQL Server Migration Assistant Error

I am trying to convert my access database to SQL Server 2008. I am running Access 2003 and am using the SQL Server Migration Assistant 2008. As soon as I try to import the current Access database I get the following error:
    Access Object Collector error: Database

An error occurred while loading database content.
I am not really sure how to get past this. I found the DAO360.ddl file in program files/common files and in windows/servicepack files. I have reinstalled Access and also tried the other version of the migration assistant. At this point I am stuck. Any suggestions how to get beyond this barrier?
    Thanks!

    Hello Alberto,
I'm having the same problem. I registered the Dao360.dll as you suggested in your previous post.
There were several entries in the registry for this file.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\ is in the system path variable.
Vijay Patil from the SSMA Team has been looking at this issue for me and here is her last email.
I’m running XP PRO SP3, Access 2000 and SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition.
    (From Vijay)
    Hi Howard,
We have tried to migrate the .mdb which you have shared with Access 2000 and the migration was successful.
We are unable to replicate the same error at our end. There could be issue with the DAO file and so is the error which you have mentioned.
This could be one reason for the issue which you are facing.
Please check this below link for information on DAO

I’ve included the entries from the log for your review. Any and all suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
I will supply any additional information you may require. Thank you for your time with this matter.

  • Issue with migration DB from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 11.2 using SQL Developer Migration workbench

    Hi,
We face an issue while migrating an SQL Server 2005 DB to Oracle 11.2.  It fails during the process.  I hope someone on the forum has seen this before and can give us some advice.
I use the latest version of SQL Developer with JRE included (3.2.20.09).  The JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server 2005 is 1.2.0
Here are the steps we take in the Migration Workbench wizard:
I made an online extract of the SQL Server database.
Using the workbench in SQL Developer I created a migration repository in schema PDM_MIGRATION.
Next I start the migration, it captures the tables fine, but immediately after the start of the conversion I get a failed message without further explanations.
This is the content of the error xml:

Does anybody know what this error means and what steps we should take to continue the migration?
    I see the PDM_MIGRATION.MIGR_FILTER is a type.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Kris

    Hi Wolfgang,
    Thanks for your reply.
This is how the type MIGR_FILTER looks like:
    create or replace
    TYPE MIGR_FILTER IS OBJECT (
      FILTER_TYPE INTEGER, -- Filter Types are 0-> ALL, 1->NAMELIST, 2->WHERE CLAUSE, 3->OBJECTID LIST
      OBJTYPE VARCHAR2(40),
      OBJECTIDS OBJECTIDLIST,
      NAMES NAMELIST,
      WHERECLAUSE VARCHAR2(1000));
I think the repository user has the correct privileges.  This is the overview of privileges it has:
    SQL> select * from dba_sys_privs where GRANTEE in ('PDM_MIGRATION') order by GRANTEE;
    GRANTEE PRIVILEGE ADM
    PDM_MIGRATION ALTER SESSION NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE CLUSTER NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE DATABASE LINK NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE PROCEDURE NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE SEQUENCE NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE SESSION NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE SYNONYM NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE TABLE NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE TRIGGER NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE VIEW NO
    PDM_MIGRATION UNLIMITED TABLESPACE NO
    SQL> select * from dba_role_privs where GRANTEE in ('PDM_MIGRATION') order by GRANTEE;
    GRANTEE GRANTED_ROLE ADM DEF
    PDM_MIGRATION CONNECT NO  YES
    PDM_MIGRATION RESOURCE NO  YES

  • Issue in SQL-server migration to new domain

    Hello,
I have a scenario, where i need to migrate SQL 2005 servers db's ( around 30, small ones) to new server in a new domain. Destinationserver is 2012 R2, running SQL2014
Domains have trust between them, and users have already been migrated to new domain. Users are using the databases with NT authing from the new domain (new logins & users have been created to old sql-server).
I have backed up db's from old server and restored them in new server. After that, i restored logins with following article's script:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918992
I cleaned from the login script logins that are not in use, change the domainname to new in CREATE LOGIN phase (for the users who did not have already login from new domain) and the script ran without errors.
User Mappings are like they should be on logins, however, the user & schema names are indicating to old domain. If i try to change them, i receive error about SID mismatch. This affects also users, who have already had new logins for new domain, their
usernames on mappings are also changed to old domain's username. What is causing this?

    Hi,
Could you try the following to migrate the logins and check the result?
    1. You may drop all the windows login. Modify the script generated by sp_help_revlogin step and replace create login
    to drop login.
    2. Use the script generated by sp_help_revlogin step to create
Logins. Modify login name to accommodate new domain name.
    3. Grant server level roles using the output from:
Generate Server level role related info :
    SELECT 'EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember ''' +
    p.name + ''' , ''' + r.name + ''';'
    FROM
    sys.server_principals r
    INNER JOIN sys.server_role_members m ON r.principal_id = m.role_principal_id
    INNER JOIN sys.server_principals p ON
    p.principal_id = m.member_principal_id
    WHERE
    r.type ='R'
    Sample Output :-
    EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember 'sa' , 'sysadmin';
    4. Map the SIDS using below command for all DB by using ALTER USER. For example:
    ALTER USER [DomainA\UserA] with login = [DomainB\UserA]
