SQL Developer 1.5.3 - Slow loading of Table list - expanding tables in tree

In SQL Developer 1.5.3, I've noticed that loading the list of tables is very slow - like REALY slow
If I log into the same schema using previous release 1.1.2.25, the same table list is loaded almost instantly.
Gone back to 1.1.2.25 because of this pain

according to TheFurryOne...
There is a known problem with the performance of the tables node on the connection navigator in SQL Developer 1.5.3
Here is a thread that discusses it...links:Re: Still experienceing problems "tables" node performance

  • SQL Developer startup is very slow

I'm finding that the first time I start SQL Developer it takes between 3 mins 30 and 4 mins to start up. This seems far too long. It's installed on a Windows 7 PC in it's own folder in Program Files. What's causing it to be so slow? - virus scanning, JVM startup? Also why are there 3 executables - sqldeveloper.exe in teh root and sqldeveloper and sqldeveoperW in teh bin folder?
    SQL Developer Version: 3.0.04
    o/s: Windows 7

Your "Automatically Check for Updates" option may be turned on. You can look at this setting by going to Tools->Preferences->Extensions. When I unchecked the "Automatically Check for Updates" checkbox my startup times drastically decreased. Hope that helps.

  • Sql Developer is working very slow and it's making other applications slow

I am using SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40.
Sometimes it hangs. Sometimes the space key doesn't work in the sql sheet. It's overall performance is slow. And i have found it slows down other applications to open and close. I have 1GB RAM.
Please tell me is it the problem of SQL Developer or my PC?

I have seen the "Automatically Check for Updates" option significantly slow down the start of up SQL Developer when it is switched on. You might want to see if switching that off (Tools > Preferences > Extensions) makes a difference to start up time.
SQL Developer's not insignificant memory usage may cause problems if it takes you beyond your physical memory, which typically slows down opening, closing and switching between applications. This is when you need to look at the task manager (assuming windows) as per the previous suggestion.

  • SQL Developer 3 EA1 - extremely slow

    Hi,
I am using      SQL Developer 3 EA1 on a win Xp machine, in conjuction with Oracle 10gR2 and 11gR2 databases.
I must say, I stopped working with sqldev3 since it's performance has been far lower from allowing productive work.
Concretely the job I am doing as a developer is to run SQL statements in the worksheet. This will take 3-5 seconds to reply. Sometimes the results will appear in a reasonable time, but the sqldev will still won't give you access to the results-grid or any other component. It will be kept busy for several seconds. This was a knock out for sqldev3. I only can hope this will be fixed some time before production start of this version.

There have been performance issues associated with having the SQL History pane open (30EA1: SQL History performance so if you have that open, you could try with it closed. Maybe that is bug 10233068 that gggraham referred to, but I couldn't find another reference to that bug on the forum and it is not a published bug.
Having said that, I have noticed performance problems (ie a query taking several seconds to display results, but showing query time as much lower - ie 0.1 seconds) both with and without the SQL History pane open.
Anyway, it seems as though at least some of the performance issues in EA1 will be fixed in EA2.

  • SQL Developer 2.1 EA - count rows with filter on a table

This is a small problem that I came across today while using 2.1 EA. I opened a table and did a filter to narrow down the results of the table. Then when I right clicked on the search results and clicked on 'Count Rows'....I get the count of the rows in the table and not my search results.
Is this a feature or a bug?
    Thanks,
    Mike

In EA2, we get both the total and the filtered total, nice.
Only remark is we don't get a progress indicator anymore, and thus can't cancel a query that might take up hours to finish!
Please log a bug for this.
    Thanks,
    K.

  • Load .JAR file using SQL Developer

    Hi,
I have couple of .JAR files on my local machine which has to be loaded on to the oracle server (11g). I tried using the load Java functionality in the SQL Developer but realised one could load a java class only if you had the source code.
Is my understanding correct or is there a way to load a JAR file using sql developer ?
    Thanks

    K,
    Thanks for the answer.
Do you know if you have to restart oracle after loading .jar files ? I ask this because I am not aware if oracle/jvm automatically knows that the jar files have been uploaded.
    Thanks

  • Sql Developer wont convert Sql Server to Oracle lob w Oracle 11gr2 client

I have the Sql Developer 2.1.1.64 loaded on a Windows machine accessing Oracle 11g release 2 database on a linux box with no jre. I have the latest version of java (1.6.0.21) and jdk (6 u 21). When I loaded Oracle 11g r2 client onto my windows box, all sql server tables could be moved to my Oracle repository except tables that converted from a Sql Server 2005 type of nvarchar(max) to nclob. I would just get every row in the error column during the move.
Turns out when I uninstalled the Oracle 11g r2 client and installed the Oracle 11g r1 client, it worked.

I'm afraid you're in the wrong forum. This is the Berkeley DB Java Edition forum.

  • Stream has already been closed - in SQL Developer v4.0.0.12

Within SQL Developer v4.0.0.12 (Build 12.84) I have "Stream has already been closed" error message in the "Query result" pane.
    Used SQL:
         select * from all_mviews;
Oracle11g Database v11.2.0.3 but this query works fine within SQL*Plus.
When I select all the columns, I have the same error:
         select OWNER, MVIEW_NAME, CONTAINER_NAME, QUERY, QUERY_LEN, UPDATABLE, UPDATE_LOG, MASTER_ROLLBACK_SEG,
                MASTER_LINK, REWRITE_ENABLED, REWRITE_CAPABILITY, REFRESH_MODE, REFRESH_METHOD, BUILD_MODE,
                FAST_REFRESHABLE, LAST_REFRESH_TYPE, LAST_REFRESH_DATE, STALENESS, AFTER_FAST_REFRESH, UNKNOWN_PREBUILT,
                UNKNOWN_PLSQL_FUNC, UNKNOWN_EXTERNAL_TABLE, UNKNOWN_CONSIDER_FRESH, UNKNOWN_IMPORT, UNKNOWN_TRUSTED_FD,
                COMPILE_STATE, USE_NO_INDEX, STALE_SINCE, NUM_PCT_TABLES, NUM_FRESH_PCT_REGIONS, NUM_STALE_PCT_REGIONS
           from all_mviews;
I though it was the QUERY column (datatype is LONG), but the following SQL works fine:
         select OWNER, MVIEW_NAME, CONTAINER_NAME, QUERY, query_len, updatable, update_log, master_rollback_seg,
                master_link, rewrite_enabled, REWRITE_CAPABILITY, REFRESH_MODE, REFRESH_METHOD, BUILD_MODE,
                FAST_REFRESHABLE, LAST_REFRESH_TYPE, LAST_REFRESH_DATE, STALENESS, AFTER_FAST_REFRESH, UNKNOWN_PREBUILT,
                UNKNOWN_PLSQL_FUNC, UNKNOWN_EXTERNAL_TABLE, UNKNOWN_CONSIDER_FRESH, UNKNOWN_IMPORT, UNKNOWN_TRUSTED_FD,
                COMPILE_STATE, USE_NO_INDEX, STALE_SINCE, NUM_PCT_TABLES
           from all_mviews;
just left out some columns (at the end).
This works also, all columns but just leaving out the QUERY column:
         select OWNER, MVIEW_NAME, CONTAINER_NAME, QUERY_LEN, UPDATABLE, UPDATE_LOG, MASTER_ROLLBACK_SEG, MASTER_LINK,
                REWRITE_ENABLED, REWRITE_CAPABILITY, REFRESH_MODE, REFRESH_METHOD, BUILD_MODE, FAST_REFRESHABLE,
                LAST_REFRESH_TYPE, LAST_REFRESH_DATE, STALENESS, AFTER_FAST_REFRESH, UNKNOWN_PREBUILT, UNKNOWN_PLSQL_FUNC,
                UNKNOWN_EXTERNAL_TABLE, UNKNOWN_CONSIDER_FRESH, UNKNOWN_IMPORT, UNKNOWN_TRUSTED_FD, COMPILE_STATE,
                USE_NO_INDEX, STALE_SINCE, NUM_PCT_TABLES, NUM_FRESH_PCT_REGIONS, NUM_STALE_PCT_REGIONS
           from all_mviews;
It seams that these queries are reaching the limit (of data transfer) within SQL Developer v4.0.0.12 (note this was also a problem in SQL Developer v3.x).

    Hi Guy,
Did you happen to see this recent discussion?  SQL Developer v4 giving error 'Stream has been closed' while querying tables containing long data
I recommend trying the workaround described there just in case your issue also relates to LONG column:
Add the following line in sqldeveloper.conf file:
       AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.useFetchSizeWithLongColumn=true

    Hello all

    thank u in advance
    best,

    >
I think something like this: we use a primary key which is in another table, it should be included there, this is not assertion in oracle?
    >
No. That is a foreign key constraint.
There are other types of constraints that you CAN use on tables such as check constraints.
See the 'Constraint' section in the SQL Language Doc
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/clauses002.htm
    >
    constraintPurpose
Use a constraint to define an integrity constraint—a rule that restricts the values in a database. Oracle Database lets you create six types of constraints and lets you declare them in two ways.
The six types of integrity constraint are described briefly here and more fully in "Semantics":
A NOT NULL constraint prohibits a database value from being null.
A unique constraint prohibits multiple rows from having the same value in the same column or combination of columns but allows some values to be null.
A primary key constraint combines a NOT NULL constraint and a unique constraint in a single declaration. It prohibits multiple rows from having the same value in the same column or combination of columns and prohibits values from being null.
A foreign key constraint requires values in one table to match values in another table.
A check constraint requires a value in the database to comply with a specified condition.
A REF column by definition references an object in another object type or in a relational table. A REF constraint lets you further describe the relationship between the REF column and the object it references.
    >
And see 'Managing Integrity Constraints' in the DBA Guide

  • SQL Developer, SQL Server and the ampersand

    Hello,
I am connected to a SQL Server database (2008) and am having difficulty getting a query to run properly in SQL Developer (3.1.07).
    Simplified Example
    select table_field
    from table
    where table_field <> 'This & That';
    Expected results
    table_field
    Other stuff
    Other stuff
    Other stuff
    Actual results
    table_field
    Other stuff
    This & That
    This & That
I cannot seem to get SQL Developer to recognize the & as a literal ampersand. I've tried escaping it numerous ways, but it always thinks it is a variable.
The query works exactly as expected in MS SQL Management Studio and Toad. Of course, I can just run it in one of those but I'd like to try to get this to work in SQL Developer. Suggestions?
Please let me know if I can provide further information. Thanks.

    Hi,
SQL Developers worksheet is designed for Oracle, but we allow you to run statements against SQL Server and other non Oracle databases.
This can lead to some quirks, like the one you experienced.
Oracles SQL*Plus uses ampersand to define substitution variables.
Oracle SQL Developer has implemented the same concept.
Unfortunately this does not make sense when running something against a non Oracle database.
As a workaround, you can run the following SQL*Plus command in SQL Developer, before your SQL Server query.
    SET DEFINE OFF;
    select 'hello & goodbye';
The following maybe of some help as well.

  • SQl developer v1.1 doesn't show synonyms that use dblinks.

Sql developer v1.1 doesn't show in the list of synonyms those whose destiny is accesed through dblink. It only shows the synonyms of local objects.

I found SQL Developer support for SQL Server too limited for anything other than simple queries on tables/views.
Squirrel SQL client (open source, free and also java based) may prove a better tool.

I'm sorry you feel we're not active on the forum, we're a small team ;-)
There are a number of excellent responders on this forum and many questions have previous responses about bugs or ERs logged. Remember this is a community forum and I think it is doing exceedingly well as one.
You can definitely log an SR with Support and ask them to give this priority. However, you'll have seen from earlier posts that the statement of direction for SQL Developer is now available. We do not plan to release a patch 3, as we are focused on release 1.1, due out in the next few months.

  • Sort Order of Tables in Data Modeler in SQL Developer 3.0

I have a schema with many tables and would like the Data Modeler (in SQL Developer 3.0) to create a Relational Model sorted by table name in Alphabetical Order. The default seems to be random alphabetic order.

There's an algorithm involved, and I'm pretty sure it's related to the number of grouped objects by relations, but instead of guessing I'll ask the developer to weigh in with the 'real answer.'
When working with larger models, I've found the #1 tip for making them easier to digest is to break them down into smaller SubViews. Have you experimented much with this feature yet? Also, you can right-click on a table in the tree and 'Go To Diagram' to find the object in the diagram.
