SQL Developer 2.1 EA - count rows with filter on a table

This is a small problem that I came across today while using 2.1 EA. I opened a table and did a filter to narrow down the results of the table. Then when I right clicked on the search results and clicked on 'Count Rows'....I get the count of the rows in the table and not my search results.
Is this a feature or a bug?

In EA2, we get both the total and the filtered total, nice.
Only remark is we don't get a progress indicator anymore, and thus can't cancel a query that might take up hours to finish!

Is 1.2 Sql Developer compatible with 11g DB?
The short answer is Yes. We are constantly adding new functionality and better support for the newer Databases. For Example to use the real time Sql monitoring that became available in 11g you will have to be on at least 2.1 Sql Dev. Is there some reason you don't want to upgrade to the latest Sql Dev? If not the current EA version then at least the current production version?

SQL Developer connect to RAC12c (Basic) failed with ORA-01017 invalid username/password; logon denied

I'm using scan in hostname to connect as Basic that failed ORA-01017. I'm using the same credential system to logon from sqlplus and is fine.
Any ideas?

Essentially all you have said is: help me, I have a problem.
1. full version of sql developer being used
2. full version of Java SDK being used
3. full version of JDBC jar file being used
4. full details on the connection information being used
5. full version of the Oracle client being used
6. confirm that both your sql*plus and sql developer connections were made from the SAME machine
A Basic connection uses the thin driver while sql*plus is using OCI

Counting rows with a particular value

Hello. I recently posted this thread Count java problem for how to count an attribute.
Now I need that count to be limited to a certain value inside the attribute.
let me clarify. I have a table Casinos, which is connected to a table SlotsInCasinos, which is further connected to SlotMachines in a many to many with SlotsInCasinos being the intersection.
The previous post that I mentioned (thanks Timo by the way) told me how to count all the slots in a particular casino.
Now I would like to know how I could count all the slots of a particular value (for example Poker slot Machines, regular Slot machines, etc) instead of the total count in a particular object.
So on the page I would have lets say 2 output texts, one showing the number of Poker Slot Machines in that particular casino and the other showing the number of regular Slot machines in that particular casino (a third could show the number of some third kind of slot machines).

Hello everyone here is an update
I created a view object called Test, based on the entity object SlotMachinesInCasino. I then created a view link TestLink and created a master detail relationship (the same one I already had for the View Object SlotMachinesCasinosVO.
The difference is in the query for test I put the following

Unfortunately when I create the TestIterator and then drop output text whose EL is the estimated row count for the test iterator it does not work as intended. It counts all the Slot Machines in the Object no matter the Name.
So it gives a number equal to all the slot machines instead of to the number of slot machines with name 'Evona'.
What did I do wrong?

SQL Developer 1.1.0.21: Issues with Data Grid and SQL syntax checking

In this new release of SQL Dev, when I execute a SQL in the SQL Worksheet and click in the Data Grid in the Results tab and try to navigate within a record using arrow keys, the grid cell enters into edit mode by default and so I cannot use the Left or Right arrow keys to navigate the grid. I am forced to use tab key to navigate. This is counter intuitive in my opinion.
Is there any option to change this behavior?

In some cases, when I press F9 to execute a SQL, it shows the SQL as executed i.e. shows something like 0.0134 seconds in the toolbar and no results displayed. In reality, the SQL had some syntax error which were NOT reported. This can be frustrating since now I have to fall back to SQL*Plus or TOAD just for syntax check.
I like the fact that SQLDev highlights the current SQL but it would be more useful if it just indicated the first line of the current sql instead of highlighting the whole sql.

In the "Results" tab, Click Ctrl & Tab keys (at the same time) or with mouse click on any cell other than the first column (a sequence or rownum), you will be able to navigate using the arrow keys.

The 0.0134 seconds could be the result of the most recently executed successful statement. Check the Script Output tab for errors. Use F5 (Run Script option) instead of F9.

On the SQL statement (or code), Right Click -> Format SQL (or press Ctrl & B), proper formatting would help.
I use version 1.0.0.15.57 and seems to be working allright.

Counting rows with multiple criteria

I know this is a silly beginner question, but is there an easy way to count the number of rows in a table which match criteria based on different columns (sort of a countif with multiple criteria). For example, if Column A in a table has "All, Some, None" responses and Column B has "Main, Off" responses, is there an easy way to count the number of rows in which Column A has All and Column B has Off?

Btw, from what I've read on the net to date, SUM (in Excel) with an array formula answers the original authors problem of counting occurrences of values, not SUMPRODUCT; which I believe sums up the contents of cells in a range, if cells in other ranges match specific criteria.
Yes, if you use the '*' (as indicated above) then SUM() is sufficient though SUMPRODUCT() will work as it degenerates to SUM when there is only one argument. If you use two arrays as arguments (like: = SUMPRODUCT((A1:A4="All"), (B1:B4="Off")), then SUMPRODUCT() is necessary. Here's my understanding of how it works (I hope your able to follow my abuse of algebraic techniques):
=SUM((A1:A4="All") * (B1:B4="Off"))
expanding the array expressions...
=SUM((A1="All", A2="All", A3="All", A4="All") * (B1="Off", B2="Off", B3="Off", B4="Off"))

SQL Developer: How do I copy data with Column Headers from the output grid?

Hello,
I am using Version 2.1.1.64.
I run a SQL query, I get the results grid in the "Query Result" window down below. Say I get 10 rows returned, with 5 columns.
I want to Copy this entire grid, plus the column headers/names, to the clipboard. So I can paste it under the original query to document the results of that query.
I can't find any way to do this. I can copy/paste the results grid, but it doesn't copy the headers.
The only way I see to do it is to go through numerous steps to Export to a TXT file, then paste that. Unfortunately, that is a lot of wasted steps if I need to do this over and over, plus, the output gets pasted in an ugly format with double quotes, etc.
It seems like the simplest functionality is to copy/paste the entire results grid, and of course you might the headers. Why is this so complicated/impossible to do?
(I believe Toad has the same problem. DBArtisan allows you to copy/paste the entire results, plus headers, though.)
Any assistance would be appreciated!

Ah, ok...
I had tried that before, and it didn't work, it seemed to copy the path of filename I was using. But I think that was because I had clicked on a Column Header first, and it had asked me if I wanted to filter. I think then it lost track that it was in the grid. It's a little flukey.
What I did now was to click on an individual cell in the output, then hit CTRL-A to select all, then hit SHIFT-CTRL-C. That gives me exactly what I want.

SQL Developer 3.2.09 fetch rows limit

Hi,
I have a problem. When I perform a query on some table that returns a lot of rows I can get only number of rows that set in fetch size in Preferences->database->Advanced. It just stops and doesn't allow to scroll any more. There was no such kind of problems in previous release

Locating row with invalid number from table with few million rows

We need to query the a table or a view of same to obtain a id of type VARCHAR with bind value being NUMBER. Any attempts in this regard I try seem to result ORA-01722: invalid number. Once case is below here
SQL> select TEXT_ID FROM ATT_TABLE where to_number(TEXT_ID) = 9411956;

1. TEXT_ID column is meant to have numeric values in VARCHAR type. It is possible that some record / row is not complying. How can I locate the non-complying records ?
2. What would be a VIEW definition that would return only records with valid numeric data in TEXT_ID column.

Of course the regexp_like is really cpu expensive, but there's no other solution in your situation
The only way to differ numberic value from character, is REGEXP_LIKE function
But you can do it using PL/SQL

SQL Developer 3.1.07.42 existing column filter no longer editable

LO developers,
I have noticed a change in behaviour (I would not call it a regression ;o) ) since v3.1 prod release.
Until 3.1.07.42, when you add a column filter on a table or query resultset, you could edit the filter later. Since 3.1.07.42, it is no longer possible: one has to remove the filter first and then enter a new one.
Is this the intended behaviour? I preferred the previous one.

We have a small table in our sql server 2005 schema (~700) rows. Its primary key is a bigint. We randomly generate ids for this table (don't ask). We have ids for this table which are larger than 2147483647. (java.lang.Integer.MAX_VALUE). I'm using a Windows 10g instance as the repository:

A problem row can be viewed by issuing this query against the repository:
select * from md_sequences where seq_start > 2147483647;
We have one row returned. The oracle.dbtools.metadata.persistence.MdSequence class uses a java.lang.Integer value to store the start value for the sequence. The value stored in the repository's MD_SEQUENCE table overflows the Integer type.
Updating the SEQ_START column in the MD_SEQUENCE table fixed our problem. (Well, I can now generate the schema. I may have other problems with the sequence being off).
I've written this post to save someone else the day it took me to diagnose this problem with Sql Developer 1.5.5. At the very least Sql Developer should inform the user that it could not generate the script because of the large sequence start value. It basically swallows any error and terminates script generation without any type of feedback.

Update: I was able to recreate the problem!
1. Create a new table (I used TEST).
2. Mark first column af primary key.
3. Save the table.
Notice the name of the primary key index created: (TEST_PK in my case)
4. Edit the table.
5. Under constraints change the name of the primary key constraint.
6. Save the table.
Notice that the index still has its original name.
7. Edit the table.
8. Change something.
9. Attempt to save changes (Fails).
Conclusion:
Either SQL Developer should be aware of indexes with different name than a constraint,
or when SQL Developer changes the name of a constraint with an index, both the constraint and the index should be renamed.

Performance problem with slow VIEW from JDBC (fast from SQL Developer)

Hi all,
I'm experiencing following problem and would like to know if someone else also hit this one before and has a suggestion how to solve it:
I have a pretty complicated SELECT statement that per definition returns only a few rows (~30). With no further optimization it takes ~20 seconds to return the full dataset in Oracle SQL Developer. If you add the */+ PUSH_PRED(name_of_some_inner_view) /* hint (hint is correct, stars got eaten by the OTN-forum syntax), the statement takes less than 0.5s to execute (still in SQL Developer). I saved the statement with the hint as VIEW. Selecting from the VIEW in SQL Developer is also fast.
Now if I call the statement from JDBC (Tomcat webapp), I can see from the server console that the statement is 1:1 100% the same as the one I execute in SQL Developer. Nevertheless it takes about 20 seconds to complete.

SQL Developer: current version 3.2.20.09From my reading this could go wrong:
- JDBC doesn't know the VIEW's column data types and Oracle behaves mysterious because of this (=there must be more to the SELECT than just the string, some meta-information)
- For some reason the hint inside the VIEW is not used (unlikely)
I also tried a Table Function/Pipelined table and selected from it as a workaround, but the result is the same: Selecting from Function is fast from SQL Developer, but slow from JDBC. All other statements that come from JDBC are as fast as they should be. I really don't know what to think of this and where the error might be.
Is there some setting that tells Oracle not to use hints when called from JDBC?

that's what I'm thinking. Unfortunately I can't post it, as it is library code (not my lib). But in the debug-output I can see the SQL-String sent to the DB (which does include the hint).
But I find the 2nd option you mention more likely anyway: Even if I put the hint into a VIEW and select from the view, the time-difference is there (it's even there if I use Table Functions/Pipelined table and select from the function).
So I'd think it is more likely that something else is happening (e.g. Oracle is configured in a way that it does not use hints when called from JDBC or similar. Or the library sets some session options in order to prevent the usage of hints). But I don't know if there is even the possibility of doing so.
Does the Oracle JDBC driver have the option to set these options?
Does the Oracle DB have the option to set sth. like "ALTER SESSION SET dontUseHints = 'Y';"

SQL Developer 1.5 having problems with JDK 6 Update 7

I tried to open a table using SQL Developer 1.5 but connection timed out. when using SQL developer 1.2 i don't get any problems opening it.
i have JDK 6 update 7 installed.
the only problem with SQL Developer 1.2 is that i get a jdbc in the error log
how do i get to fix the SQL Developer 1.5?

Issue with viewing Package Body in SQL Developer 2.1 EA1

I was able to view the package body from different schemas after I log in with user account in SQL Developer 1.5.5.
But with SQL Developer 2.1 EA1, I could view only spec and I can see the package body only if I log in with DBO account.
Is there any setting that needs to be configured to be able to view the package body?

It's Oracle 9i.
What I meant 'spec' is you can see only the headers you defined in spec. You can expend the package and be able to see the all functions and procedures but you won't be able to see the '%packagename% Body' where all the detail code were written.
As I mentioned in my previous post, with SQL Developer 1.5.5 version, you can see spec and package body if you expend the package.

We are trying to perform a database migration and we keep getting "Locating Source Plugin" failed, we have the jTDS Drivers from sourceforge, tried several versions, including 1.0, 1.2, 1.2.2, 1.2.4, 1.2.5, 1.2.7, and 1.2.8... and i came across a thread Sql Dev Third party migration issue
and i was wondering if SQL Developer 1.5.5 is compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2008?

Those versions are ancient, older than SS2008 even.
Go get version 4.0.3 and a jTDS 3.1 driver.
