SQL Developer 1.5 on Ubuntu  8.04 (hardy heron)

Hi all,
I have doownladed SQL Developer 1.5 Multiple Platforms for ubuntu 8.04 (hardy )
I installed the Sun Java SDK from Synaptic pacakge Manager Repository.
I ran java -version in a console and i got this :
=======================================
psvm23@psvm23-desktop:~$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_06"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode, sharing)
=====================================================
Java Seems to be installed fine.
After that I go to :
/home/psvm23/sqldeveloper_install/sqldeveloper
and I ran : sh sqldeveloper.sh
and i got this error :
========================================================
Oracle SQL Developer
Copyright (c) 2008, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Type the full pathname of a J2SE installation (or Ctrl-C to quit), the path will be stored in ~/.sqldeveloper/jdk
============================================================
after that I added to the jdk.conf under ~/.sqldeveloper/bin :
PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.06/bin (where is located the whole SDK of sun java)
And im still getting this :
========================================================
psvm23@psvm23-desktop:~/sqldeveloper_install/sqldeveloper$ sh sqldeveloper.sh
Oracle SQL Developer
Copyright (c) 2008, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Type the full pathname of a J2SE installation (or Ctrl-C to quit), the path will be stored in ~/.sqldeveloper/jdk
==============================================================
Can someome tell me what exactly how to set the SDK of java to run SQL developer 1.5 in my machine with Ubuntu 8.04. ?
Thx in advance.
Paul.

Hi pjoracle2,
I am on Linux (but not Ubuntu)
My JAVA_HOME is /home/turloch/jdk1.5.0_06 my path to java is /home/turloch/jdk1.5.0_06/bin
I tried altering sqldeveloper.conf:
SetJavaHome /home/turloch/jdk1.5.0_06
worked for me but setting this to
SetJavaHome /home/turloch/jdk1.5.0_06/bin
did not work for me.
(also setting the JAVA_HOME environmental variable to /home/turloch/jdk1.5.0_06 helped)
I also tried action suggested by the prompt ,Type the full pathname of a J2SE installation (or Ctrl-C to quit) (I entered:
/home/turloch/jdk1.5.0_06
which worked for me (I had the PATH to the Java executable set already))

  • SQL Developer not working on Ubuntu 6.10

    Hi all,
    I just upgraded to Ubuntu 6.10 and discovered that SQL Developer does not start. It fails with next message:
    sofist@null:~/opt/sqldeveloper$ sh sqldeveloper

    I've read the ubuntu linux 6.10 does not use bash as the default shell anymore. Most linux distributions use bash as the default shell. Ubuntu 6.10 uses a shell called dash. Not sure why ubuntu would change it. So, I don't know if it has anything or not to do with the shell.

  • Connecting to Oracle DB on Ubuntu 8.04 using SQL Developer

    Hi,
    I managed to install Oracle 11g on Ubuntu 8.04 using this guide:
    http://www.pythian.com/blogs/968/installing-oracle-11g-on-ubuntu-804-lts-hardy-heron
    But I don't remember the Username or SID, that's why I keep on getting ORA-12505 from SQL DEVELOPER
    How can I get those missing informations?

    But I don't remember the Username or SIDAssuming your DB is up and running, you can find out the SID by :
    $ ps -ef | grep smon | grep -v grep
    oracle   15298     1  1 10:59 ?        00:00:00 ora_smon_db11
    $ here db11 is the SID.
    About username, you can create one. Use Sql*Plus and OS authentication :
    $ export ORACLE_SID=<your SID>
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> CREATE USER

    No, beacuse you are not using Oracle SQL Developer. You are using a third-party product developed by SOLYP Informatik GmbH. I suggest that you go to their web site [http://sqldeveloper.solyp.com/] for support.

    Welcome to the forum!
    Please read the FAQ for how to post a question and the information that you need to provide.
    The most important thing is that you actually need to post a question. Saying 'when I do this I have errors' is NOT a question. And it does not provide enough information for anyone to help you.
    The subject mentions Open JDK 7 but your content uses '/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk'. Nothing in what you posted says anything at all about whether you are using sql developer, what version you are using, or how you are trying to launch it.
    If you want help you have to provide detailed, specific information about each step you are taking and what results you get.
    Have you ever installed or used ANY version of sql developer on ANY platform?
    You are on a 64 bit system so are you using 64 bit versions of sql developer and the JDK?
    Are you aware that JDK 7 is NOT recommended for use with sql developer at this time?

    But when I attempt to use the launcher icon, I receive a SIGSEGV error.  Here is the top of the hs_error.log file.

    I'm just switching from Ubuntu to Fedora so this has not worked in the past.
    Thank you for any help,
    Ann

    The solution in https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2594033 worked.  I added the 2nd line below to /opt/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper.sh.
    #!/bin/bash
    unset -v GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID
    cd "`dirname $0`"/sqldeveloper/bin && bash sqldeveloper $*
    Previously, I incorrectly updated ~/.bashrc to unset GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID.  That's why running Sql Developer from the command line worked, but not from the launcher.

  • Plsql_optimize_level = 3 and native compilation in SQL Developer?

    SQL Developer: Version 3.1.06 (Build MAIN-06.82)
    Oracle: 11gR2
    OS: Ubuntu 10.10
    Whenever I compile a PL/SQL unit in SQL Developer (using 'Compile' button) it is compiled with the following settings:
    PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL = 2
    PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = 'INTERPRETED'
    However, if I issue the following commands in an SQL Worksheet:
    ALTER SESSION SET plsql_optimize_level = 3;
    ALTER PACKAGE PACKAGE_NAME COMPILE PLSQL_CODE_TYPE = NATIVE;
    the query SELECT PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL, PLSQL_CODE_TYPE FROM ALL_PLSQL_OBJECT_SETTINGS WHERE NAME = 'PACKAGE_NAME'; resullts in
    PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL     PLSQL_CODE_TYPE
    3     NATIVE
    3     NATIVE
    Is it possible to make SQL Developer to use these settings by default?
    P.S. It seems that Tools > Preferences > Database > PL/SQL Compiler menu section is missing the options I need (Optimization level drop-down menu have numbers 0-2, but not 3). Are there any plans to support these features in the future releases?
    Edited by: Ravshan Abbasov on Feb 6, 2012 6:28 AM

    Hi Ravshan,
    I thought a workaround would be to create a sql script like the following:
    alter session set plsql_code_type=native;
    alter session set plsql_optimize_level=3;  then point to it in the setting for Tools|Preferences|Database|Filename for connection startup script. That doesn't work however, as the other preference setting for plsql_optimize_level overrides the session value of 3 during compilation from the UI.
    According to Oracle documentation, level 3 was added for Oracle 11g. Prior to that, the same effect could be achieved by level 2 in conjunction with the INLINE pragma in the PL/SQL code.
    You might want to make a feature request for this on the SQL Developer Exchange so the community can vote and comment.

    And, of course, Compile for Debug does not work with the 'native' setting.

    I had a problem getting it to run in Ubuntu when launching from an XFCE launcher. Basically the file sqldeveloper doesn't work. What I did was to copy sqldeveloper to SQLDeveloper, change the ./ to the full path ( in my case /home/username/sqldeveloper/ ), then launch SQLDeveloper instead of sqldeveloper. Then it all worked fine.

  • Problems Starting SQL developer

    Hi Guys,
    I'm new to using oracle through Lynx.
    I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx.
    I have installed Oracle 11g R1.
    I have successfully installed oracle, created and connected to the DB. I have exported HR and OE schemas from a windows machine and imported to my Lynx based database successfully.
    So Oracle is working correctly though SQLplus.
    My problem is when I start using SQLDeveloper.
    When I go to "/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/sqldeveloper"; and run the sqldeveloper.sh it seems to open fine, I see the GUI.
    My problem is that we I try to create a new connection I am getting errors.
    The GUI says: The network adaptor could not establish a connection.

    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Could you past output from

    Your GUI started so it's not a problem of your java - it's rather something missing in your database installation.

  • SQL Developer paste problem for large text in Linux

    Hello,
    I have a problem. I cannot paste large text (> 5000 lines) into the editor of a clob column. Pasting in general works. I mean I can paste the whole content e.g. to gedit or I can paste partially the text into the sql developer editor but not as a whole.

  • SQL Developer Version 3.0.02 really slow to produce results

    Hi,
    Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here as SQL Developer on my machine is so slow it is virtually unusable (it wasn't this bad in previous versions but it is possible I also have a new JDK since). I open a connection to an Oracle database and simple type:
    select a_column from a_table where a_column = 1
    and hit green triangle (ctrl + enter). The green triangle and the commit/rollback icons go grey and I start counting rough seconds. I get to 30 before the result is shown and I can do anything and yet it says:
    All rows fetched: 1 in 0.002 seconds
    In sqlplus the exact same query comes back immediately. I have added -J-Dsdev.insight=false to the command line (as Oracle says it can slow SQL Developer) but this has not helped. I'm running on Linux Ubuntu 10.10 with
    3353400 kB of memory according to cat /proc/meminfo and my ~/sqldeveloper/jdk file contains:
    /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.24
    top shows:
    PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
    8143 martin 20 0 947m 462m 28m S 2 14.1 6:39.68 java
    and that is the only java program I am running.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Yes, there was 'dark ages' for SQL Dev query performance starting from 30EA1 and 30EA2 (3.0.02).
    It was said that re-coding on SQL History was the one to be blamed for this.
    Unfortunately, there was no satisfying workaround for those versions.
    Try at least 30EA3 and best to have 3.0 production one.

  • SQL Developer 3.3.20 maximized issue

    I've been running SQL Developer 3.1.07 on my Linux Mint 13 (Ubuntu 12.04) 64-bit cinnamon desktop for well over a year, and today, I downloaded the 3.2.20 linux rpm, and installed via alien / dpkg.
    I migrated my settings, and can connect to any of my databases fine.
    However, I'm having problems with the menus when SQL Developer is maximized.
    For example,
    1. I mouse click on any menu, but the menu does not stay selected (I must hold the mouse button down).
    2. When I select a menu entry, another menu is displayed. i.e. click Help, then try to select any item, and the Versioning menu displays.
    If I un-maximize SQL Developer, and stretch to 90% of the screen, it works fine. Using the Alt keyboard and up/down arrow works fine.
    I updated my Java to 1.6.0_43 and rebooted my PC, but the problem still persists (when maximised).
    Anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

    ah,... never mind. Some more Googling and I see there are known issues.
    Developer GUI problem on x64 Fedora
    Will just have to live with it 90%.

  • Linux, Oracle Databace 10g Express Ed installation so can run SQL Developer

    Dear Oracle
    I am endeavouring to run SQLDeveloper for Linux on my Netbook running Ubuntu 11.04 'Natty Narwhal' OS on an i386 architecture and have not yet been successful. I am doing this as we are using SQL Developer in my Computer Science undergraduate studies at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. I first followed the cursory instructions on your site where I agreed to the Terms & Conditions of your license and downloaded the SQLDeveloper for Linux package. I have been tinkering with it but I can't get it to execute and open.
    I then did some research on the Internet to solve this problem and found a website from a Linux user that had codified the process they went through to get SQL Developer to work. I have included a copy of the website URL for your reference:
    [http://www.kodiaktechnical.com/wordpress/?p=84|http://www.kodiaktechnical.com/wordpress/?p=84]
    I have been working through the steps of this process and one of them was to install another one your, that is Oracle's, applications/tools which is: oracle-xe_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
    On running this Debian installation package for Linux my Ubuntu system opened a dialogue box which related:

    I would really appreciate some assistance.
