Sql Developer 2.1 editing views

One user reported that she has two separate schemas, each with their own connection. In one connection, user can open the "View" tree, right click on a view and select 'Edit' and things happen as you'd expect. In the other connection, however, right clicking does not show the 'Edit' item in the context menu, and when clicking on the view, the 'Edit' button is grayed out.
I've verified that both users have identical grants and the views in question are definitely views in each respective schema, so I can't find a database or privilege reason that the user can't edit views in the second schema.
As a side note, viewing the view DDL and copy/pasting the definition into a SQL Worksheet allows the user to change the view. Strange that the edit buttons aren't visible or clickable, though.
Any thoughts? How do I submit an official bug report?

No thoughts, but the only official site to report bugs is submitting a SR on Metalink/MOS. However you still might be lucky if someone from the team picks it up here.

K.

    I just set up a new machine, the database settings are same as in the old machine. But I cannot see the table/view names when expending the "+" sign before Tables or Views. When using "select * from tab", the result of all tables/views returns correctly. Is there any other settings I missed?
    I'm using Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, and Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.5.

    The same issue exists in 2.1.1.64.39
    All of a sudden: list of tables empty, views still viewable,tables are still there though.
    In the logging window I get ora-904 messages on sys.o.name

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler -Editing the Legend

    Hi,
    I have installed SQL DEVELOPER Version- 3.0.04. I am creating the data modeler diagrams(Relational and Logical) using the SQL Data Modeler.I would like to know whether the following features are available in this version or the latest version of SQL DEVELOPER.
    1) Remove the existing legend attributes (Say:Author,Created on,Changed By etc) for both relational and logical diagrams.
    2)Add new attribute to the Legend .(Say: A description for the Barker notation used in ERDs .)

  • SQL Developer: Not able to view tables

    I am new to sqldeveloper and oracle products. I've recently installed sqldeveloper onto my pc, i am able to connect to the database but when i try and expand the tables item in the treeview i dont get the tables displayed and the error Warning, unhandled exception:Closed connection is shown in the logging page at the bottom. Operating System= Windows 7 32bit
    SQLDeveloper=3.0.03
    JDK=1.6.0_21

    It looks like it may be a privilege issue.
    I ran SQL Developer with 'IncludeConfFile sqldeveloper-debug.conf' in the 'sqldeveloper.conf' file. I got the following log output when I connected to XXAPI (which hangs) and XX (which works)
    For XXAPI, 'oracle.dbtools.db.DBUtil' generates

  • SQl Developer Where are Map View queries stored

    SQL Developer Latest Version, Linux 86_64, Oracle EE Latest Version.
    I have looked through a lot of docs, schema and files but cannot for the life of me figure out where these are being stored. Little help

    Hey there,
    Oh yes indeed. I work at a University and am introducing students to Oracle Spatial. The ability to be able to give the students, typically graduate students, a basic package of predefined map queries would be very helpful. Unless the file contains other information it would be nice to know just what file it is and that could simply be handed off with an instruction telling them where to drop the file.
    Also the way the select list is handled when editing / running those queries is a bit quirky.
    I don;t know if you saw my other post re: "Point data Display Size" ? I cannot seem to find a way to alter the size of a point when displayed and it really seems to bit kinda weird and mostly seems linked to the number of points being displayed. The work we do is purely road networks so we have lots of 'Links and Nodes" that we display ( like the complete Highway Network the SF Bay Area down to the street level at times ) and so displaying the Nodes as point data and the links as line strings between points is critical so the ability to size the elements for display is as well.
    Thanks for the reply!

  • Unable to view table list in sql developer

    I am able to connect to the database through sql developer but unable to view tables list.
    Select query is displaying the contents though.
    Any Help ???

    Using SQL Developer, I log in using the owner user id and password. I can see all but one of my materialized views. It was definitely created by the user id I'm logged in as. A query of user_objects in sql+ shows all MVs, including the one that's missing in SQL Developer. If I log in using the same credentials in TOAD, the MV is displayed in the current schema, as I'd expect. The super weird thing is that if I use the previous version of SQL Developer, I see that MV! Any thoughts?

  • How to view sys_context value in SQL Developer?

    hello
    i can view the results via sqlplus with following statements:
    SELECT SYS_CONTEXT ('empno_ctx', 'empno_attrib') empno_attrib FROM DUAL;
    SELECT * FROM SESSION_CONTEXT;
    both retrieve correct values;
    now, since i work mainly in SQL Developer i wanted to view the results in there as well;
    i ran the procedure in SQL Developer via right-click on the procedure -> run;
    it looked like it ran ok;
    however when i do the above queries nothing is retrieved;
    any suggestions?
    thanks
    rgds

    Hi,
    You can use
    SELECT SYS_CONTEXT ('empno_ctx', 'empno_attrib') empno_attrib into <Variable Name> FROM DUAL;
    dbms_output.putline (<Variable Name>
    So after you execute the procedure. You will be able to see the value in output window.

  • SQL Developer 1.5 having problems with JDK 6 Update 7

    I tried to open a table using SQL Developer 1.5 but connection timed out. when using SQL developer 1.2 i don't get any problems opening it.
    i have JDK 6 update 7 installed.
    the only problem with SQL Developer 1.2 is that i get a jdbc in the error log
    how do i get to fix the SQL Developer 1.5?

    --The sql developer is connected using tnsnames.ora, with read only access
    --i'm using windows XP SP3
    --I have jdk 6 update 7 installed
    --The tables that I can't View is listed under Other Users.
    --I thought it was just because i have no permission to view it, but when i used the old sql developer 1.2, it displayed it properly.
    --The reason i want to use SQL developer 1.5 is because i don't want to see any JDBC error on log messages, which happens on the sql developer 1.2
    --i dont get to see any errors, sql developer suddenly can't view and lost the connection. it says connection is currently busy. and suddenly stops responding, the only way i can get it working again is by using the taskbar, when it close the program it gets java is not responding..
    --also when i try running sqlcli.bat i get error with it.. is it because of my java?
    --What more details do you need?

  • 30EA3 SQL Developer 3 error message while migrating SQL sever database

    I was mirating a SQL sever 2005 database to Oracle 11g, and got the following error message during the process:
    "Migration action have failed. Check the migration reports for Detail. :null".
    After the error message, I could see the "Captured Database Objects" and "Converted Database objects" under the "Migration Projects". However, if I open the generated scripts, it only contains the fowlloing, nothing else:
    "SET DEFINE OFF;
    PROMPT Creating User Emulation ...
    CREATE USER Emulation IDENTIFIED BY Emulation DEFAULT TABLESPACE USERS TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP;
    GRANT CREATE SESSION, RESOURCE, CREATE VIEW, CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW, CREATE SYNONYM,CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO Emulation;"
    What's the cause of this problem, please advice. Thanks.
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
    The next thing in the generation script should have been the definition of the sqlserver_utilities package.
    This package emulates some of the system functions found in SQL Server.
    It gets placed into your converted model as the very last step of the conversion.
    Building the generation script (where your failure happened) is straight forward and I wouldn't expect an error here.
    I would guess something went wrong during the capture or conversion and is only surfacing during the generation phase when it tried to write the sqlserver_utilities package to the generation file.
    I could be wrong, but I would manually check that conversion completed successfully first.
    1) Browse you converted model under
    Migration Projects "Nav" : Projects > YourProjectName > YourModelName(default a date)> Converted Database Objects > Procedures > YourProcName
    a) Are there any red crosses on any of these nodes in your navigator ?
    b) If you right click on a converted database name is "reconvert" grayed out or available?
    c) run the following in the SQL Worksheet against the same connection you used for the migration repository
    select * from md_packages;
    Is there one row there with the definition of sqlserver_utilities in its package_header and native_sql columns?
    Also do you have anything in the capture issues, conversion status or conversion issues reports (double click you project and the migration reports should pop up on the right hand side, each report a separate tab) ?
    Just trying to pinpoint what happened here.
    Thanks for your feedback,
    Dermot

  • Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler Versus SQL Developer

    Friends,
    I'm trying to understand the differences between Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler and the ability to use the Data Modeler in SQL Developer.
    I've looked at both products home pages on OTN, http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/datamodeler/index.html & http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html and would appreciate your comments on my findings so far
    1) The Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler is a stand-a-lone chargeable product whereas the use of the Data Modeler functionality of SQL Developer is free
    2) The Data Modeler functionality within SQL Developer is basically a "viewer" I can create ERD's of my existing tables by dragging them into the modeler from the object navigator but that's about it. I can't save the diagram for later use or use it to change the structure of the table(s)
    3) If I need to have "Oracle Designer" like ERD capabilities then I need to use Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (after purchase!)
    4) Are there any other differences I have missed?
    Thanks in advance

    You can open any diagram created in the stand-alone product in the SQL Developer Data Modeler Viewer and navigate through all property dialogs and the full navigator, just like you can in the stand-alone product, but with no update capabilities. This allows developers to fully review the model and all properties, without making changes.

  • Solution to connection resets in SQL Developer under Windows 7

    I recently ran into constantly lost connections while browsing my schema with SQL Develop. I found this Re: SQL Developer: Not able to view tables by John McGinnis how to work around this bug.
    To whom it may now concern, here is the solution:
    This bug has been fixed by JDBC driver 11.2.0.3 with ID 9373409 SUDDENLY JDBC THIN GOT CONNECTION ABORT ERROR ONLY WINDOWS 2008 OR VISTA ENV
    I have double-checked this with My Oracle Support and it's really fixed now. Everyone should replace that JAR in the jdbc/lib dir of SQL Developer.
    Saved me from sorrows.
    Good luck,
    Michael

    Thanks for sharing that information!

  • SQL Developer Tables Node is missing from when expand connection

    Hi,
    I'm getting this issue often when I expand the connection node (Oracle DB connection), the Tables node is missing from the object types tree. Even if i close the SQL developer and come back it would be the same.
    Is this a known issue? I've seen this both in 3.0 & 3.1.
    please advice.

    Hi,
    Just as an update: I did not encounter the issue anymore since my last post (ca 1 week) and I did not do any changes to sqldeveloper any more (never did an export / import of connections, no change in version of JDK any more etc.).
    I guessed this here could be my issue: SQL Developer: Not able to view tables
    excerpt: "The problem occurs when SQL Developer 3.0.04 connects to a limited privilege schema via a shared server connection. The workaround is to connect using a dedicated server connection."
    I use type "Basic" for all my sqldeveloper connections, so no TNSnames.ora entries containing the line "SERVER=DEDICATED" and I did get same issue also when connection using a custom created user having the DBA role.
    Therefore I guess this is here is more likely to be my issue: SQL Developer: Not able to view tables
    excerpt "JDBC driver having to do with 'Out Of Band Breaks' - basically a low level TCP issue.
    To enable the workaround, a Java system property needs to be set - oracle.net.disableOob=true. "
    Very often when I did have the issue I closed SQLDeveloper and used Toad for the rest of the day (or a few hours). Next time launching SQLDeveloper the tables node usually was back again. So this could fit into the picture, right?

  • Thank You SQL Developer Team

    I would like to take a minute to say "Thank You" to everyone who are working on SQL Developer. I use SQL Developer regularly to quickly view database objects and table data.
    Since the release of APEX 3.0.1 and SQLDeveloper 1.2, I have been using SQL Developer to move my APEX applications between Development, Test, QA, and Production instances - works like a champ! I have the development pages and administrative pages disabled in Test, QA and Prod, so SQL Developer (in my opinion) has helped plug a security risk in my APEX applications.
    I know developers - and project managers - don't get to hear much praise for what they do. Seems like it is too easy for users to point out flaws in applications. But, if users find flaws in applications, they must be using it...
    Thanks again for everything you do.
    Dan

    So did I (for about 50K).
    At the end I managed to export in Text format, then opened that with Excel.
    Hope that works for you,
    K.
