SQL DEVELOPER 3EA1 -- Doesn't show my Code Template ?

Hi
I wander if someone could help to workout with Code template in SQL Developer 3.0EA1 (0.5.97)
I have many code template in my previous release 3.0 ( Tools --> Preferences --> Database --> SQL Editor Code Template ). When I was typing first word of Code Template, It was appearing but this is not the case in 3.0EA1 , It shows me default Code Template not the one I am looking for.

Here is how you get your programed code template back. In the worksheet invoke your code template the "official" way, that is via abbreviation. Run the statement. Now it's in SQL History and should be shown in code insight.

SQL Developer keepalive doesn't work in 4.0

The famous, and awesome, SQLDeveloper keepalive extension (https://sites.google.com/site/keepaliveext/) does not seem to work with the new beta SQLDeveloper 4.0. Has anyone gotten it to work? This is a show-stopper for me as far as using 4.0.

Thanks for your keep alive extension which is a great help. Previously it worked just fine. But recently it just doesn't work anymore (about 2 weeks after I install this extension and no big system configuration was done during that time ) . I am using version 3.1.07 on windows XP. Hope your can give me some advises.
Also, any chance we can configure the wait time for SQL developer to connect oracle DB? For instance, 0.5 sec?

Sql developer in win 7 shows UAC

hi,
we are trying to use sql developer 3.1 in one of our win 7 machine.
we are receiving UAC(user access control screen) when we are trying to use sqldeveloper.exe. our users does not have admin previlages. so we not want the UAC to block anything
did anyone faced this issue?

If you want to run Java 7 you'll need to use at least version 3.2.20.09 of SQL Developer - otherwise go grab a 1.6 JDK

Mandatory Variable set in a view doesn't show in Web template ?

Hi Experts,
I have a mandatory user-input variable in my query. I build a view based on the query. When I opened the query analyzer I had to select a value for my variable since it is mandatory. I did so and built my view. I based my BI web template on my view. When i execute the template the variable screen doesn't show, the value of my variable is the one I entered when I built the view and there is no way i can change this value from the Web template. Is this expected behaviour ? If so how can i build a view when i have a mandatory variable withoit setting its value in the analyzer ? The user has to set it later in the BI template.

Actually the variable has a default value which is defined in a function. This default can be overriden. The problem is that when defining the view you need to specify a value or leave the default. In any case in Web Template you are not given the option of changing whatever you put in the query analyzer. i am puzzled how this could happen.

SQL*Developer 3EA1 - Not Compiling package Body

Don't know if this is best place to post this, if not tell me where.
In some packages i'm getting: Error: ORA-06550: linha 1, coluna 64:PLS-00172: literal de cadeia de caracteres demasiado extenso; Sorry about the portuguese error message but it's cpopy paste from compiler log.
The strange about this is that the package is compiling with no errors on Version 2.1.1.64 and also on others editors. In both packages i had this was after formatting the code.
So far is the only bug i got, keep on the good work.

Just tried from pl/sql node. The package body does not compile from there either. The issue seems to be the size of the package. The package size is 35,000 characters and spaces. I can remove any combination of source lines to get it down to 32,000 characters and spaces and it will compile.

Quick develop module doesn't show with cursor movement

Somehow, the little triangle that opens and closes the Quick Develop Module in my Library has become solid, so it no longer pops the menu open when I glide my cursor over to the right side of a full screen image. How do I get the Quick develop module triangle to have that shadow look again so that when I glide the cursor to it the module opens.
I must have changed this with a keystroke or something but for the life of me I cannot get it back and it's driving me crazy. I do not like the module open all the time and it's a pain to use the keystroke or click the triangle each time I need to make a quick adjustment. I hope this is not an upgrade change. I notice it is the same in my develop module.
Please help me get my little shadow back, ha.

SQL Developer 1.5 doesnot show SubPartitions

I am not able to see the SubPartitions in the RHS window for a partitioned table. There is only Partitions TAB bot not SubPartitions TAB.

I think, currently there is no Sub Partitions information feature available on SQL Dev, nor I haven't seen it on the previous version though.
Maybe you can add a request on the SQL Dev Exchange (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:37), and see whether the team will come up to it.

You can easily look up the error messages in the Oracle Online Documentation @ http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/homepage
Just enter the error code, and you'll get the cause and action, for example:
TNS-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
Cause: The address specified is not valid, or the program being connected to does not exist.
Action: Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the most likely incorrect parameter is the node name. Ensure that the executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing.) If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the host name to a numeric IP address and try again.
It looks like you'll have to edit your tnsnames.ora, and also check if your listener is running.

Copying from Oracle SQL Developer to Microsoft Word doesn't retain formatting (Font,colors etc)

I notice that you have cross posted in Answers forum and Oracle forum. Have you tried Mr. Peter's suggestion?
Then, I recommend we check the Word settings:
1. Go to: Options > Advanced > Cut, Copy and Paste
2. Make sure that Use smart cut and paste is ticked.
3. Click the Settings button next to this option
4. Make sure that Smart Style
Behavior is checked.
If the issue still exists, please upload a sample through One Drive, I want to test.

SPOOLing in sql developer does not take into consideration SET ECHO OFF

I'm running SQL Developer 3.1.07.42 on Windows 7 64 bit with java 1.7
I have the following very simple script just to show the problem:
SET ECHO OFF;
SET FEEDBACK OFF;
SET SERVEROUTPUT ON;
SET VERIFY OFF;
SET PAGES 0;
SET HEAD OFF;
SPOOL c:\test.sql
SELECT 1, 2, 3 FROM DUAL;
SPOOL OFF;
/if I run it in TOAD 10.6.0.42 it creates the file with
1 2 3This is as expected (by me)
if I run the exact same query in SQL Developer 3.1.07.42 , it creates the file with:
< SELECT 1, 2, 3 FROM DUAL
1 2 3(the < above is actually ">" but the CODE formatting software is screwing ">")
but I don't want the ECHOed command to be spooled. For the life of me, I cannot find a way to disable the ECHO from spooling in sql developer.
Tried the same in 3.0.4 and 2.1.1 with the same (bad) result (plus some warning on some of the unsupported SET commands).
Am I missing something obvious? Cause like this, the spool command cannot be used in sql developer to generate a CSV file for example, because of the echoed command. And windows doesn't come with SED by default so that is out. (plus that my original script is integrated into a much larger and complex set of scripts and the main script using them is executed from SQL Developer as a company policy (so that everybody uses the same tool and the code runs the same for everybody))

Hi Gary, you seem to have some extensive knowledge. I'd like to follow-up on this thread and try to understand why SQL Developer won't hide the code even though I'm already running the code as a Worksheet (I assume you mean Run Script F5 button in SQL Developer).
I generally develop in SQL Developer that does a lot of dbms_output to echo data using a Spool command. When I'm in SQL Developer I can't get the code NOT to spool, it typically is echoed directly in the spool file at the top followed by the dbms_output data. If I save the sql file and run in in sqlplus it only outputs the data (good). If I use @C:\xyz_script.sql and hit F5 in SQL Developer it only outputs the data (per your previous answer) -- good.
So why can't I hit F5 in SQL Developer in the script file and have it only output the data? It just doesn't work no matter how many "SETs" you turn-off.
Looks like Echo, Term, Feed are supported in SQL Developer, maybe supported means something other than work.

SQL developer hangs on Win XP if not admin user

Hi, I just installed Oracle 11g on Win XP sp2, as admin user.
Things appear working, except for SQL Developer which runs fine only when logging in to XP as administrator.
If I log in as a normal user, then SQL Developer hangs forever just after being started up, eating 50% of CPU. Task manager is required to stop it.
A few more details: it hangs just after asking about file name associations, showing on the left panel the connection I did while being admin.
SQL Plus runs just fine in any case.
If I run the alternative version (sqldeveloper.exe), the involved window reports:

- sqldev is slower - and yes my machine is fast
- sqldev needs a mouse; the keyboard shortcuts are severely lacking
- output window is separated from SQL window
- It doesn't show me anything I couldn't get to before by typing commands & using TextPad
As far as sqlplusw.exe vs sqlplus.exe, I won't get into that discussion- all I'll say is that the "workarounds" on the Internet have not addressed my concerns. (control-c exits by accident, having to edit every shortcut on every computer/server I touch which either needs admin elevation or shortcut copy/paste or both, etc)
Either way- thanks again to sperkmandl for the solution (running sqldev as non-administrative user)! I never run on my machine as local admin; I only elevate when needed.

I tried to Oracle sql developer data modeler for show relational ER diagrams.
Tables are came on data modeler but not shown relations between tables.

SDDM cannot create an ER diagram with only simple table definitions. It requires that primary keys (PKs) and foreign keys (FKs) be defined first. My guess is you imported these table designs from an existing database. If so, that database does not contain those constraints. (I have found this to be an issue in many organizations over the last 20 years - including my current job). You will have to determine:
1. The PKs for each table (either via data profiling or talk to someone who "knows" what they are supposed to be, or by reading application logic/code used to manage the tables).
2. The FKs between the tables. You may be able to guess some of that based on column names, otherwise you will have to figure them out (same as above)
Then you can update the model in SDDM with the PK definiions (manually). You must do that first before you draw in the FKs between the tables. Now if you want a true Entity Relationship model you need create a logical model from this relational model. The SDDM utility for that will convert the tables to entities and the FKs to relationships.
I have the basic steps with screen shots outlined in a presentation I gave in Denver in late 2009. It was an earlier version of SDDM but the basics are the same. You can find the presentation is here: http://www.rmoug.org/QEW2009/SQL%20Developer%20Data%20Modeler%20(2).pdf. Start at about slide 12.

is there a way to view, create and alter my database jobs with SQL developer?
And is it possible to export tables, views or simple queries to file delimited different from the CSV standard?

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!!
To select data from a table or a view you must use the SELECT sql command. Example to get the data from your view you can
select ZMATNUM,ZMATCUR,ZMATATTR from ZMATERIALAs you have said you are using SQL Developer just execute the above query in your sql developer and it will show the data. Right click the grid and export the data to excel file.
