SQL Developer incredibly slow to load Application Schema ~15 minutes

Hi, I am evaluating SQL Developer to see if it is a viable alternative to TOAD and although it compares favourably on it's functionality offering it is unusable when I try to connect to a remote applications database. It seems to attempt to load all PL/SQL objects from the remote server even if I am only opening a single procedure or package.
For example, if i want to view the packages in the apps schema then I expand the packages tree control in the connections browser. This takes ~15 minutes to complete! TOAD, while also slow, takes ~30 to 40 seconds.
This obviously makes the tool useless. Does anyone else get this problem?

Just to clarify, the slowness is only seen in packages? Or when loading the list of procedures or functions as well?
Can you run the following SQL in the worksheet? Replace the :SCHEMA binds with the schema you are querying (so 'HR' or whatever), and execute it using the 'Run Script' button (or F5). The join in the query seems slow, but I wanted to see if that seems to be the majority of the problem, or if there is something else wrong as well (a fetch size issue, or a problem when we create the actual nodes in the tree).
SELECT OBJECT_NAME, OBJECT_ID,
DECODE(STATUS, 'INVALID', 'TRUE', 'FALSE') INVALID,
'TRUE' runnable,
NVL( b.HAS_BODY, 'FALSE') HAS_BODY
FROM SYS.ALL_OBJECTS a,
(SELECT 'TRUE' HAS_BODY, object_name tmp_name FROM SYS.ALL_OBJECTS WHERE OWNER = :SCHEMA AND OBJECT_TYPE = 'PACKAGE BODY') b
WHERE OWNER = :SCHEMA
AND OBJECT_TYPE = 'PACKAGE'
AND object_name = tmp_name (+)
AND SUBOBJECT_NAME IS NULL
AND OBJECT_ID NOT IN ( SELECT PURGE_OBJECT FROM RECYCLEBIN )
Thanks,

  • Why is iPad so INCREDIBLY slow in loading web pages or e-mails? I have brand new iPad 2.

Just got a new iPad2 last week, installed OK, updated to iOS 5.0, able to access my home's wireless network. However, it is incredibly slow in loading web pages, so that most web sites time out before they will load, like http://finance/yahoo, which I have to use my desktop (Windows XP) or laptop (Windows 7) computers to access, since the iPad will time out almost every time before it can open the site. Same for most other sites, unless real simple like my own web site, which will open OK.
Apple tech support was no help at all. Any suggestions, other than buying a new router?

Have you tried (1) restarting your router, and (2) resetting the wifi on the iPad?  To do #2, go to Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings.

  • SQL Developer running slow, possibly caused by Java Virtual Machine

    Dear all
I am currently working with SQL Developer 1.5.1, connecting to an Oracle database 10.2.0.2 and it is taking about 10 minutes for SQL Developer to load. I believe the problem may be due to the Java Development kit. I upgraded to the latest version last week.
The versions running according to Java settings is:
    1.6 1.6.0_15 http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe  true
    1.6 1.6.0_07 http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\javaw.exe  true

I would say the problem occurred within the last couple of months but has got much worse in recently weeks. SQL Developer is also slow at times, mainly when I've used another application and it is just in the background.

    Hi there
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I use GeoRaptor and for what I use it for, I have not come across any errors whilst using it.
I had no reference to the JDK in my SQL Developer configuration file. I did a search on my system and could not located a copy of JDK, or one in my programs installed control panel, so I installed it again. However I then found a copy in the sqldeveloper folder. However that wasn't referenced in my control panel.
However having added a reference to the JDK in my SQL Developer configuration file, pointing to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_16, it seems to be taken even longer to load.
SQL Developer is using 98,608k once loaded and my system has 1.25GB of memory. Whilst loading I was using 1.38GB. For about a year I've had slightly less memory than I sometimes use. The reason for not having 2GB is due to a previous memory failure. However this did not cause a problem for SQL developer until more recently.
Would it be worth reinstalling GeoRapter?
    Kind regards
    Tim

  • SQL Developer extremely slow - suggestions?

    Hey,
I've just installed - everything is extremely slow - 30 seconds or so to have the file menu open once clicking file for example. Also slows everything else on the computer to a crawl.
machine has 1GB of RAM, Win XP Pro, etc. etc. and works great when SQL Developer is not open.
i can connect to and browse the DB, i can execute queries, etc.
If i alt+tab away from and then back to the SQL dev screen, it takes about 30 seconds for the screen to "refresh" from being blank and grey.
This is so slow that i could never ever use it...any hints suggestions about settings, configs, other apps that it conflicts with, etc. that might help me get it working well?
Sorry - running against Oracle 9i (9.2.0.5), but the slowness happens prior to connecting as well....

    Thanks very much!
I've done that and the time to do anything has dropped from about 30 seconds down to 6 seconds.
I can basically type out an entire sql select before it begins to appear on the screen.
BUT it did load the app more quickly and it only takes about 4 - 6 seconds to refresh the screen when i alt+tab back to SQLd now.
Still slows down everything else on the computer (though only badly instead of excuciatingly badly).
Any other suggestions? other processes that are known to be conflicts?

  • MacBook Pro, Mid 2012 slow to load applications and startup

    Problem description:
I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch, mid 2012 computer. Over the past months it has become increasingly slower during load up, and application loads.
    Running OS X Yosemite
Processor: 2.9 GHz, Intel Core i7
    Memory 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
I installed an application Memory Clean from the App Store and I need to run it every so often to keep the load down. It shows of the 8GB available, App Memory eating up 3.32 GB, File Cache 2.25 GB, Wired 1.16 GB, Compressed 122.03 MB for used 6.80 GB.
I am considering upping the memory from 8 GB to 16 GB, but think it is something else dragging it down. I am not a total computer newbie, but am no where near a techomage so any advice given if it could be in simple to follow instructions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any advice given, have a great day.

How to manage intermittent lag in OS X Yosemite | MacIssues
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Using TOAD and SQL Developer to compare db objects in schemas in databases

    Hi All,
My primary objective was to compare objects in schemas in two different databases and find out the differences,
Execute DDL's in the database where objects are missing and syn schemas in two different databases.
So I need to compare schemas in databases. Which tool would be helpful and will be user friendly to make a comparison of database objects existing in schemas in two different databases.
I'd like to see if I can get a list of pro and cons between Toad and SQL Developer for comparing schemas pros and cons.
Could you please also help me on navigation in SQL Developer to compare schemas.
    Connect to Source
    Connect to Target
Compare schemas with different object types
    Find out differences
Generate DDL's for the missing objects or for the objects in difference report
    Run them in missing instace(Source/Target)
Make sure both are in sync.
    Thanks All

    Hi,
Most dba type tools have this kind of functionality - personally i use plsqldeveloper but this is very similar to most other tools on the market. SQL Developer seems to rely on you needing the change management pack licence which you likely dont have and would be quite a large cost to roll out.
I'd compare plsqldeveloper/toad/sqlnavigator etc and maybe the tools from redgate which look pretty good though i haven't used them.

  • ITunes incredibly slow to load, cannot see any devices...

    Hello,
iTunes is incredibly slow - takes 2 minutes+ to load. When it does load, it cannot see iPod touch, iPad 3 or iPhone 5. It could yesterday.
    Updated iTunes.
Totally removed all iTunes and associated programs, and reinstalled.
Checked Apple USB drivers, all functioning.
    Deleted preferences file.
    Ran on Windows safe mode.
Ran 3 different malware scans in Safe Mode.
    Unistalled Quicktime.
Ran on basic boot under MSIconfig.
    Please help!
    Windows 7, i5, 6gb ram.

Yes, that's a good point. On my MBP, everything works just fine, so it's not an internet connectivity issue. Both machines are running the same anti-virus/firewall software with the same settings. The MBP is wireless via Time Capsule, whereas the iMac is hardwired to TC. The only difference is the entire library is on the iMac and AppleTV pulls from it for both audio & photos.
But these are all "library" issues, which are unaffected. It's only the "store" and the rendering of the pages within it. I tried the parental settings trick to disable iTunes Store & iTunes U - sped right up on display. But as soon as I changed settings so I could actually access content? Slowed right down...
    Any other thoughts??
    Thanks

  • Sql query runs slower from the application

    Hi,
We are using oracle 9ias on AIX box.The jdk version used: 1.3.1 . From the j2ee application when we perfom a search, the sql query takes for ever to return the results. I know that we are waiting on the database because I can see the query working when I look at TOAD.But if i run the same query on the database server itself, it returns the results in less than a sec. Could you guys throw some light on how we could troubleshoot this problem. Thanks.

When the results have to travel over the network, it is slow, and when they don't, it is fast.
That is what you are saying, correct?
So your approach should be to not bring so much data over the network. Don't select columns you don't need, and don't select rows you don't need.

  • Safari incredibly slow in loading pages on iMac

I am finding that my web pages are taking ages to load on my iMac but not the MacBook Pro

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Slow to load applications after shut down.

Before a shut down it will take one bounce of an icon in the doc for an application to open but after a shut down it might take three or four bounces the first time then one again the next time. Is this normal?

There are enormous differences in size and loading speed between different applications. For example, after my computer is restarted, Preview is open and ready to go in less time than its icon in the Dock takes to finish bouncing once, but Photoshop CS4 takes more than 15 bounces before it's ready to use.
I suspect what you're seeing is a combination of a) those differences, and b) the result of application code being cached when an app is opened for the first time after the machine starts up from a cold shutdown. The cached data speeds up subsequent launches of that app as long as it remains in the cache. To build on the previous example, a second launch of Preview on my MBP is practically instantaneous, and a second launch of Photoshop takes around two seconds.

  • My iphone 3G is slow to load applications

My iphone recently started loading some applications very slowly. For instance, the Facebook app takes a long time to load. I was comparing to some friends' phones the other day and my phone was still loading when theirs was already up and running. And, sometimes I can's get the swipe to answer the phone fast enough on the screen if the phone is in hibernate. I have a passcode on my phone for security. Any suggestions other than syncing and making sure it was loaded with the most up to date software (did that last week).

    Compared to other iPhone 3G's?
If not, the 3GS and the iPhone 4 have faster processors and more RAM.
Any change after an iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release?

  • Custom PS module incredibly slow to load in scheduler service (i.e. takes ~5 minutes to import/load rather than 5 seconds)

I have a custom PS module which I would like to host in the Azure Scheduler service. However, it is not an option from the experimentation I have done with the service. The module is 16MB; it loads on my workstation in around 5 seconds. When running in the
Azure scheduler service it takes 5-10 MINUTES to
LOAD the module (i.e. that's before I actually invoke any commands within it!).
Is this delay a known issue with the service? Does the service only support small modules as a result? It is un-useable with its current performance and I am forced to spin up a VM and schedule the scripts via Windows Task Scheduler in it.
    Thanks very much

Not seen any similar reports on here, but in my experience - and there are many threads tht would bear it out - the fact that a previous version (or a Windows box) can read the card doesn't necessarily mean that reformatting the card with the camera won't help. That would be my first step.
    Regards
    TD

  • Safari 4 incredibly slow to load

Downloaded Safari 4 this morning - it's taking over 30 seconds to load pages that used to take a few seconds. Seems stable enough, and the bells and whistles are pretty, but I'd rather trade them for the speed of v3. Anyone else?

    Claude,
You should start your own topic but in any event read this post from Klaus1.

  • SQL Developer responding slowly

    Hi,
I am connecting to Oracle DB from SQL Developer using remote connection through LDAP. I work with sql server management studio regularly but through sql developer this is my first time.
I find SQl developer slow compared to sql server management studio- IS this true or is it because of the remote connection.?
What steps can I take to improve its speed . Are there any tools or settings that I need to change?
I have a simple insert query into a temporary table which ran for 5 hours. The application does not stop executing after that and I need to end it from task manager. I think this is to do with the buffer size, so I need to commit data in batches to process it more speedily. Are there any settings to do to run data in batches?
Thanks for your time and help

Based on the code you posted in a later reply this does NOT appear to be a sql developer issues at all and should be posted in the SQL and PL/SQL forum.
    PL/SQL
Before you post there please read the thread 'How to post a tuning request' located at
HOW TO: Post a SQL statement tuning request - template posting
That thread discusses the information that you need to provide in order for volunteers to be able to make meaningful suggestions. That information includes
    1. the DDL for the tables and indexes involved
    2. the row counts for the tables
    3. the row counts for the query predicates
    4. the execution plan for the query
    5. the expected row count of the result set
Based of this code that you posted
    INSERT INTO Temp
    SELECT
    VisitNo,
    EmployeeNo,
(SELECT EmployeeNo FROM Employee e WHERE e.CaseNo = clin.CaseNo) emp,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY VisitNo, CaseNo) rnum
    FROM
    ClinicVisit clin
    ORDER BY
    VisitNo,
CaseNo;the query will simply be sent by sql developer to Oracle for processing. Sql developer will play no further role until the query is actually completed. So based on this example code there is no basis at all for saying:
    1. sql developer is slow
    2. the application does not stop executing - please clarify what you mean by 'application' and by 'does not stop'
    3. I think this is to do with the buffer size
    4. I need to commit data in batches to process it more speedily
    5. the remote connection is in any way involved
The code (insert into temp) suggests that you are using the typical sql server practice of populating a temporary table whose data will then, typically, be used for further processing and population of the target table.
In Oracle you rarely need to use temporary tables and when you do use them you use them differently than the way they are used in sql server.
The SQL and PL/SQL forum is the place to gets answers about tuning queries but you will get better help if you provide additional information about what you are really trying to do.
