SQL Developer v4.0.3 on Windows 7 64 bit hangs

I'm using 64 bit SQL Developer 4.0.3 with the included JDK on Windows 7. When editing the body of a package, SQL Developer becomes unresponsive and I have to End Task. I've tried renaming the APPDATA folder so it will create a new one and didn't import my settings (only copied connections.xml), but that didn't help. Version 3.2 works fine, but all the 4.x versions I've tried do the same thing.
Please help.
Signed,
Stuck in 3.2

Try the production 4.1 release when it comes out.  The latest 4.1 is EA2 (Early Adopter 2), but some editor fixes from the JDeveloper team did not become available until after that release.  We are getting close to having a RC1 (release candidate 1) and hope the type of hang you are experiencing will finally be fixed. Another recommendation is to disable Show Breadcrumbs in Tools > Preferences > Coded Editor > Display.  That may help in some cases.

  • SQL Developer 3.0/3.1 64 Bit Memory Setting

    Hi,
To avoid hitting memory setting issues with SQL Dev 3.0/3.1 64 bit clients, you can make the following changes:
    1) Close SQL Developer
    2) Locate the sqldeveloper.conf file
    Found in directory:
    C:\<SQLDeveloper32\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin
    3) Change the following line
    Before:
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M
    After:
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
    4) Launch SQL Developer
A memory issue of this sort will generally result in non-responsive UI behavior.
You can verify that you are hitting this issue by launching the console window version of SQL Developer and checking for memory exceptions.
    C:\SQLDeveloper30-64RTMPatch1\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe
A bug has been filed change this setting.
    Thanks, Mark

SQL Developer itself will work with a 64-bit JDK. It is possible that the data modeler still requires a 32-bit JDK.
You may get better answers in the dedicated Data Modeller forum.

  • Issue Install SQL Developer - Windows 7 64 Bit

I am trying to install SQL Developer 3.2 on my Windows 7 - 64 bit laptop. When I attempt to install and put in the Java path I get the following error:
"Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path: ;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin."
I tried using the version 6 path and it did not work either.
    Can someone please advise?
    Thanks for your help!
    NS

Does your path really start with ';' - if so, that's wrong.
Also, take out the \bin, should look something like this
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_05

  • SQL Developer: Windows 7 64-bits double numerical entries

I am using sql developer windows 7 64-bits version 64-3.2.20.09.87-no-jre.
I am entering data directly on tables.
Sometimes when I use numeric pad to enter numbers, double entries appears on the first digit.
    For example: entering 1234
it appears 11234 - with first numeric entry appearing twice.
This also happens with the past versions, different notebook brands.
How do I solve this problem?

    Hi can anyone advise
    The Problem
We are currently using Oracle SQL Developer 1.2.1.3213 to administer to the oracle database, unfortunately, this version does not play well with a 64 bit environ. The current airbus standard for Oracle SQL Developer which is happy with Windows 7 64 bit is version 3.1.07, again unfortunately, this version does not support versions of the Oracle database less than I think it is 8. Budget precludes the option of upgrading to a newer version of dbase.
    The Question
Is there a version of Oracle SQL Developer that will meet our needs for windows 7 while remaining on the same version of the oracle database, or are there other competing products that you could recommend that will fit the bill. The product will require a GUI I don’t want to go back to entering SQL at the command line.
    regards
Kevin" this version does not support versions of the Oracle database less than I think it is 8."
What do you mean by this statement?
SQL Developer is just a client. Clients do NOT have to be exactly version matched to a database. I am running SQLDeveloper 3.2 on a Win 7 Pro 64-bit desktop and my databases are a mix of 10.2.0.4 and 11.2

  • Trouble installing/using SQL Developer on Windows 2008 R2

I need help installing sql developer.
    I am running Windows 2008 R2.
I tried installing the 64 bit version, and when it asked for the path to the JDK, it complains that it doesn't exists. Can someone PLEASE point me to which JDK I need to install?
I tried installing the 32 bit versionand it installs fine, but then gives me the error that it can't load AMD 64-bit dll on a IA 32 bit platform.
PLEASE HELP. How can I run SQL Developer on Windows 2008 R2?
Links to the exact versions of what to install would be very very helpful.
    Thank you!

The versions required are in the release notes.
If you install the 64-bit SQLDeveloper you need a 64-bit JDK.
If you install the 32-bit SQLDeveloper you need a 32-bit JDK.
If your operating is 32-bit, you need a 32-bit SQLDeveloper.
Note that you need a JDK not a JRE

  • SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 - code template does not work in Windows Vista

I have been trying to import a code template in SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 / Windows Vista using the following steps:
    1. Import template (xml) file using "Preferences > Database > SQL Formatter > Import..." option. Pressed "OK" button.
    2. Clicked on "Preferences > Database > SQL Formatter > Oracle Formatting".
I expected to see the new profile under "Profile" drop-down-list-box, but it does not appear there.
I tried putting the template (xml) file under various locations, including:
    (a) C:\Users\<user_name>\
    (b) C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\SQL Developer\
Please let me know any suggestions that you may have.
    Thanks in advance.

I got it to work. In step 1 that I mentioned, "OK" button should not be pressed; go to step 2 without pressing "OK" button.

  • SQL Developer 3.0.04 worksheets not displaying

Worksheets are not displaying in SQL Developer 3.0.04.34 (download included JDK1.6.0_11) on Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit. I upgraded from 2.1.1.64 and chose to migrate existing connections.
I am able to open all connections, view table and object listings in the navigator tree view, and expand tables to see column names, but nothing displays when I click the Data tab, Columns, Grants, or any other tabs. No column headings appear. No error messages appear.
When opening views, I am able to click on the SQL tab and retrieve text.
No data displays when I run a query. The same thing happens when I try anything that should return data, such as Tools...Monitor Sessions, anything from the new DBA navigator, anything from the Reports tab.
This is only happening on one of two Windows 7 PCs I have installed it on (both upgraded from 2.1.1.64), so I know it should work.
    I have tried:
    re-installation
    reboots
separate installation of Java JDK 1.6.0_25 and the SQL Developer version that excludes the JDK
    uninstalling Java to eliminate conflicts
locating the SQL Developer folder outside of Program Files to eliminate Administrator permission issues
    editing SetJavaHome in sqldeveloper.conf
Has anyone seen this same problem?

I just solved my own problem. I don't know what caused it, but the fix is fairly simple.
SQL Developer is not installed in Windows using an installation program, and to my knowledge doesn't have registry entries. Application-specific configuration and temporary data is kept in
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SQL Developer\
This folder contains information for all copies of SQL Developer installed on the computer.
Before re-installing, it is necessary to completely uninstall version 3.0.04. This is done by deleting the folder where you installed SQL Developer, in addition to the following AppData folder:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SQL Developer\system3.0.04.34
I also deleted C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SQL Developer\SqlHistory, but that might not have been necessary.

  • SQL Developer 3.0.04 deleted contents of many tables mystically!!!

I just upgraded SQL Developer 3.0.04 on Windows XP with dual core and SSD drive. Database is 10g. I was clicking on data content tab and looking at one table from database, but it suddenly reported an error like "no more data...".
I thought my connection was dropped (I am using port forwarding tunnel to connect to database). I disconnect and reconnect to database, but suddenly I found more than 10 tables have been emptied. All data in those tables were DELETED!!! Some tables were left untouched.
It must be a huge bug in SQL Developer. I have been using it for three years. It used to be just slow, but never did something like this.
    William

Luckily, it's not happening to our prod database. It is still scary, so I investigated a little bit more. This is what I found from v$sql. At that time range, some weird delete statements were issued to our database as follows. We definitely don't have any tables or views with those names. Anyone has an idea what those sqls are about?

As you can see, my Service "orcl" matches your example, but I am still unable to create a new connection in SQL Developer.

  • Java.exe Requirement to run SQL Developer?

Hi all, I'm very new to this so pardon my basic questions. I recently installed Oracle 11g and it came with SQL Developer.
However, when I attempt to start SQL Developer from the Windows Start menu, I get a popup that says cannot find SQLDEVELOPER.BAT.
I have looked around for this file in the Oracle folder in Program Files but did not find it. I did find the sqldeveloper.exe.
When I double click on sqldeveloper.exe I get the following, a dialogue box pop-up that wants the full path name for java.exe.
What do I need to do?
    Many thanks, -Nyssa

    Hi Nyssa,
Note that the version of SQL Developer that ships with Oracle 11g is rather old. In my opinion, the best approach would be to download the latest production release:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
Choose Windows 32-bit - zip file includes the JDK1.6.0_35 and unzip it into an empty directory. It will run on either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows systems and already contains the correct JDK, so you avoid having to worry about that.

    Gary

  • Possible SQL Developer 3.0.04 bug

I'm currently using SQL Developer 3.0.04, using Windows XP, and connecting to an Oracle XE 10g database. I've noticed a strange problem when I export a database and use the default "export all data from all tables" option. Basically, when the rows within each table are exported as "insert" statements, any tables with "DATA" within their name are completely skipped. The statements to create the tables are exported, along with all related constraints, just not the actual table rows.
    This is what I did:
    1. Created a table named "AAA", with two columns, AAA_ID and AAA_INFO
    2. Loaded a few rows into the "AAA" table
    3. Performed an export of the database; clicked on Tools->Database Export, chose the database connection, left everything with the default values, checked the "proceed to summary" box, clicked Next, then clicked Finish
    4. Checked the export file for insert statements for the "AAA" table; they were present
    5. Renamed the table to "AAA_DATA"
    6. Performed the export again and checked the export file for insert statements for the "AAA_DATA" table; they were not present
    7. Renamed the table to "AAADATAAAA"
    8. Performed the export again and checked the export file for insert statements for the "AAADATAAAA" table; they were not present
    9. Renamed the table back to "AAA"
    10. Performed the export again and checked the export file for insert statements for the "AAA" table; they were present again.
When I go through each of the export screens and manually select all of the database tables within the "Specify Data" section, the rows for the "DATA" tables are correctly exported; the problem only happens when I use the option to go straight to the summary and export everything.

Thanks for taking the time to analyze the problem and provide steps to reproduce. I can see how the problem is caused and I have filed a bug for it.
