SQL Developer viewer download fail (404)
Hi
I am trying to download the Oracle SQL Developer Data modeler viewer but get an error (404) every time?
I am following the link at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/datamodeler.html after accepting license.
I am using IE v7.0 and I tried the SQL Developer tool and got the same error??
Any ideas.....

SQL Developer: Failure -Test failed: IO Error: Got minus one from a read ca
SQL Developer: Failure -Test failed: IO Error: Got minus one from a read call
Hi,
I am sorry I know this is probably most frequently asked question, but I have no idea what I should be searching for.
I looked up the error above to see if i could find a solution, but unfortunately I did not.
Right Let me start of with I am a Total Noob.. well it terms of having to install Oracle 11g myself.
In my University they hosted a database, and assigned us a User & pass thats how I have been using SQL Developer,
but since I am not longer a university student. I need to use Oracle Database.
So I downloaded Oracle 11g Enterprise Installed it on my laptop that i don't use much.
Name the Database: Rudu
It did all the installation, and seemed to have succeeded, I went on to the https://localhost:1158/em (Though am not sure why em? whats the deal with that? I thought it would be https://localhost:1158/Rudu) anyways....
Logged in using the System user.
Went to Users and created a user called: RUDUHR
Thought yeah its working... went on to my other laptop opened up SQL Developer.
Created Connection with the following Settings
Con Name: RK
User: RUDUHR
Pass: TEST
Con Type: Basic
Role: Default
Hostname: 192.168.0.8
Port: 1158
SID: Rudu
It don't work though Why is that??????
192.168.0.8 is laptop that has oracle 11g installed and running.
I even tried using SYSTEM user to connect, but same error
also tried changing SID to em, it made no difference I keep getting the error Status: Failure -Test failed: IO Error: Got minus one from a read call
So ya am clueless... LOL I only know how to create tables and stuff not how to configure a Database.
and just so you know I did forward the port on me router to correct laptop. It don't work though Why is that??????
192.168.0.8 is laptop that has oracle 11g installed and running.
It is because you don't read documentation.
1158 is the default port for Enterprise Manager
1521 is the default port for Sqlnet.
Your port number is incorrect.
Needless to say, you can create your tables in EM too.
As per the Forums Etiquette post (first link when you get to this page) it is recommended you read documentation before asking Yet Another Doc Question.

SQL Developer: Failure -Test failed: IO Error: Network Adapter No Conn
SQL Developer: Failure -Test failed: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
Hi,
and sorry this is a really common questions and yes I did do a search, but I don't understand it.
First let me just tell you that Oracle 11g is installed on my second laptop on the same Network.
Secondly I can connect to the Database using Oracle SQL Developer on the laptop Oracle 11g is installed on.
The problem is I want to connect to the database on my main Laptop.
I put in the correct details Hostname 192.168.0.8 ( this is the laptop oracle is installed and running on)
Port 1521
SID dbarudu
****** YES I HAVE PORT FORWARDED
****** YES I HAVE ALLOWED 1521 on the FIREWALL
****** YES I HAVE EVEN SWITCHED OFF THE FIREWALL
Now one more thing you should know ... I don't know nothing about Oracle Servers ok.... so I have just installed Oracle 11g Enterprise and thought done it should be working now.
I just need to use oracle db for a project.
So keep in mind I am a total noob and terms like TNSPING etc mean absolutely nothing to me.
So please help, but help with step by step guide on how to get Oracle to let me have access from another computer. If the Listener is working, then you should not get the error SQL-Developer error you are reporting.
The listener typically runs using the hostname and port 1521. This means it opens tcp port 1521 on all IP addresses of that platform.
The database server by default will register itself with the local listener. Thus the listener will know the database SID, the database services, whether there are dispatchers to support shared server connections and so on.
The client side needs simply to specify 3 pieces of data to connect:
- the IP of the database server
- the tcp port of the listener
- a database identifier (such as Oracle SID or service name) to connect to
It is really that simple.
If this does not work, the problem falls into 2 broad categories:
a) incorrect installation and configuration of the Oracle software (the out-of-the-box install works unless messed up)
b) some kind of networking issue
To troubleshoot any problem means reducing the complexity of the problem, eliminating multiple moving parts and focusing on specific ones, in order to isolate the problem.
For your problem, this will go something as follows:
- does the listener run? (check if the service is running and whether tcp connections are accepted on the listener port - telnet can be used for the latter)
- does the database successfully registers itself with the listener? (check the services command of the listener and relevant db initialisation parameters)
- does a local TNS (tcp network) connection work on that server? (use SQL*Plus and test on that platform client-server connectivity via tcp to the listener)
- does the client platform have connectivity with the server platform? (use ICMP and telnet to test)
- repeat the TNS test on the client platform using the same working TNS tested on the server platform
Do not use JDBC to test the connection - keep it simple and use sqlplus and the standard Oracle Call Interface (OCI). A full client version of the OCI plus sqlplus can be downloaded under the Oracle InstantClient downloads.
Finally - if you expect to simply install and use Oracle, then use the correct version. Oracle Express Edition aka Oracle XE. Installs and works out-of-the-box. The only manual config change to make is (as far as I recall) to run the listener on all IP addresses of that platform. And this required editing the listener.ora file, changing the HOST parameter and restarting the listener.
Also keep in mind that you have not presented an Oracle error code and Oracle error message. But a client application error message. And that message is pretty much meaningless - it does not point to a specific Oracle networking or Oracle server problem. To diagnose that, we expect a TNS or ORA error number. -
Connection to SQL Developer Data Modeler Fails
All,
I am using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version 3.0.0.665 in an Oracle 10g database environment. When I try to import DDLs, I get the following error message:
NoSuchMethodError:
oracle.i18.ntext.converter.CharacterConverterOGS.getInstance(I)Loracle/i18n/text/converter/CharacterConverter;I use the same connection profile in Oracle SQL Developer version 1.5.0.53, and my connection works fine there, but the same credentials in SQL Developer Data Modeler fails with the above error message. Any thoughts what causes this connection problem?
Thank you,
SeyedHi Philip,
Thank you so much for the information. Your suggested solution resolved my problem. For some reason when I first installed the Data Modeler, it worked fine and I was able to save the result into PDF files. Then my connection went bad and I posted this question on this forum.
Again thank you very much,

SQL Developer: View menu selections Reports and Connections not working
Downloaded latest SQL Developer May 9 updated version and my dropdown selections from the View menu for Connections, and View Reports do not work. However, Snippets does appear when selected. Hate to lose some of the User Defined reports I had created. Any help would be appreciated.
Don't know if I get what you're saying: the entries Connections and Reports from the View menu don't work?
On top of the connection tree, if you get one, aren't there the two tabs with these options?
If you're unable to view the whole tree, you're installation would be corrupted. Install from scratch in a separate folder, first without migration to see if that resolves the issue. Then you could do the same with migration to retrieve all previous settings and connections.

SQL Developer for Mac Fails to Launch 2.1.0.63.73
It is disappointing that 2.1 RC1 fails to launch on PPC Macs and particularly aggravating that there is no indication on the download page or in the release notes this was only built for Intel Macs. Or does
"...launcher.sh: line 774: /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home/bin/java: *Bad* *CPU* *type* *in* *executable*
Error: SQL Developer can't recognize the JDK version" mean something else?
Is there any compelling reason that SQL Developer for Mac cannot be compiled as a UB?
ChuckI just tried to run 2.1 on my PPC running 10.4.11 from sqldeveloper-2.1.0.63.73-macosx.tar.tar on the 2.1 downloads page.
On double-clicking SQLDeveloper.app a bash process starts and uses all the CPU. The icon bounces in the taskbar for about a minute. There's nothing else visible.
info.plist says it is version 1.1!
I was using the previous release, so before I installed I copied the app and ~/.SQLdeveloper so I could restore it if the update failed.
Should I have deleted ~/.SQLdeveloper? I can't see any upgrade notes.
I remember with previous updates there was a way to keep the connections, what was it?
To move the sqlconnections.xml out of .sqldeveloper before installing the new version then move it back?
Later - the console has lots of aqua errors. I guess that means it needs Tiger or SnowLeopard?

Sql Developer - View source code of procedures, functions & packages in another schema
Our developers need the ability to view procedures, function, packages etc. in the production database (using SQL DEVELOPER). They don't have access to sign on as the owner of these
objects in Production. They must use their own limited access UserID for this purpose.
This limited access UserID has been granted select privilege on DBA_SOURCE & DBA_OBJECTS. The developers need the ability to view the source of these object via
the tree view in SQL DEV. They should be able to click on "other users" in the SQL DEV tree view and see a listing of the owner schema objects. Then they should
be able to select the desired object and view the source code. These developers are used to using GUI interfaces. Selecting from DBA_SOURCE would not be an
option for them.
I understand that if the limited user is granted SELECT ANY DICTIONARY or SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE then this functionality will work. The problem is those
privileges/roles provide much more access than should be granted to these limited access users. Granting DBA to these users is also not an option.
In TOAD and other end-user tools this functionality works when only select privilege on DBA_SOURCE & DBA_OBJECTS has been granted. We need this same functionality
in SQL DEV.
While searching this forum and the internet, I see that other installations have this same issue.
Please enhance SQL Developer with this functionality.
Thank you, ellenJust to double check that I'm interpreting the problem correctly, is the following true:
select * from all_objects where object_name = 'DBA_SOURCE'
returns nothing
select * from dba_source where name = your PL/SQL module
returns all the code -
SQL Developer - viewing table data while debugging
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
I'm using SQL Developer to debug a complex stored procedure line by line. There are a lot of inserts / updates / deletes in the procedure and I'd like to be able to view the data in the relevant tables after each statement has been run to see the effect of each statement.
Trouble is, when I try to do this, SQL Developer shows the contents of the tables as if they have been unaffected by the stored procedure. Is there a setting somewhere or some type of locking I can use to see the data changes as they happen?Only the session that is inserting the data can see that new data until the session issues a commit, so I would doubt that you could do this. You probably want to a) view the data before the insert or b) (ugly but should work) put a trigger on the table being inserted so it inserts a copy of the data to a tracking table. This procedure will have to have the AUTONOMOUS TRANSACTION pragma in order to not be held until your debug session commits.

SQL Developer viewing schemas on an MS SQL Server
Hi,
I've connected SQL Developer to our MS SQL server in the hope we can dump some of the data it contains onto our Oracle 10g box.
Problem is in the left hand connections pane we can only see one database on the sql server box at a time. If we want to see more than one database we have to make a new connection to each seperately.
Is there any way of making SQL developer show and allow browsing of all the sql server databases for which the user has permissions in the same way it does for MySQL connections?
Regards
JohnNo; it's even more restrictive (at least in Oracle DBs): 1 connection for each database AND schema (user).
Regards,
K. -
Can't download Windows x64 SQL Developer
The download of SQL Developer x64 (Windows) fails within 2 seconds of tryng to save to local disk - filesize is 0 bytes. I have tried from two different machines.
The download of x86/32 bit SQL developer works.
site used is http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.htmlI'm afraid Oracle's download server is unreliable. It never affects everyone, but failures happen intermittently and once you get a failure it can be hard to clear the problem.
The problem seems to be that the failed download is cached somewhere - on your local machine, in your proxy server, or at oracle's edge servers. Sometimes clearing your internet cache will help, but there is no reliable solution other than to keep trying. -

5. SQL Developer 4.0.2 running on Windows 7 64 bit / Java 1.7.0_55
Updated Apex to 4.2.5 via p17966818_425_Generic.zip patchset. Apex environment running fine as do all applications via Listener 1.1.3
Updated Oracle Listener to the latest version of Oracle REST Data Services 2.0.7
Current Status
Apex Applications and RESTful services are running fine.
Problem
Unable to connect SQL Developer 4.0.2 to Oracle REST Data Services 2.0.7
Error message in SQL Developer - Cannot connect to DEV. HTTP/1.1 403 Target service not allowed
Additional Information
Steps followed -
1. The oracle users APEX_LISTENER and APEX_REST_PUBLIC_USER did not exist, so I ran apex_rest_config.sql from the APEX 2.4.1 patchset whilst connected sys as sysdba and provided the same password as APEX_PUBLIC_USER for both users.
2. I also ran
grant insert, delete on APEX_040200.wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups to APEX_LISTENER;
alter session set current_schema = APEX_LISTENER;
create or replace synonym wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups for APEX_040200.wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups;
as per Oracle SQL Developer User's Guide Release 4.0

Any help much appreciatedFurther to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit
Oracle Apex Listener 2.0.8
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:
INFO: Error: ORA-02291: integrity constraint (APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_RT$APPROVALS_SGID_FK) violated - parent key not found, occurred during execution of: [CALL, insert into wwv_flow_rt$approvals (user_name,status,client_id,security_group_id,created_by,created_on,updated_by,updated_on) values(/*in:user_id*/?,/*in:status*/?,/*in:client_id*/?,/*in:tenant_id*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?), [tenant_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [client_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [user_id, in, class java.lang.String], [status, in, class oracle.dbtools.rt.oauth.ApprovalRequest$Status], [created, in, class java.sql.Timestamp]]with values: [adminlistener, APPROVED, 3858401374580004, -1, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785]
SQL Developer responded with an Authentication Failed titled dialog with the following displayed in the body of the dialog

Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to tackle this?

SQl Developer 2.1.0.62 - dbms_output.put_line
When trying to use dbms_output.put_line i seem to keep on getting messages in the logging Page tab and example would be:
SEVERE 96 516 oracle.dbtools.db.DBUtil Invalid column index
This even seems to happen when doing a simple anonymous block witha single dbms_output.put_line command.
I have tried closing SQL Developer and using a new session but same issue.
Is this an install issue or something else?Dermot,
I too am running on XP.
I am running against a 9i DB in case that should make any difference.
I have as a test switched back to my SQL Developer 1.5.5.59.69 version issued a dbms_output call from a block and it works.
All i am doing is logging on to 9i DB
Opening worksheet
begin
dbms_output.put_line('Test');
END;
I have then chosen View -> DBMS Output
This then open a new a new window at bottom of screen, i then click on the cross to add a new DBMS Output window for my connection.
I then run the code, this is where i now receive the messages in the Loggng Tab.
Have just noticed that when i log into the 9i DB i receive the following in the looging Tab:
SEVERE 103 26830 oracle.dbtools.db.DBUtil ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION
Not sure what is causing this must be part of SQl developer Login procedure failing, but doesn't happen in vesrion 1.5.5.59.69
Thanks
Paul

Unable to establish connection to oracle database using sql developer
hi guys,
i tried to connect to the oracle database using the sql developer, but it fails. it replies the following message:
Status: Failure -Test failed: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
what should i do? any helpPlease provide a little more information:
1) SQLDeveloper version.
2) Database Version.
3) Database location (same machine or on the network).
4) Connection method (basic,TNS).
5) Connection type (Thin,Thick/OCI).
Usually the first thing to check is if you have correctly entered the right information for your database connection, then if everything seems to be OK the database itself should be checked for potential problems. -
Greetings,
I'm getting a 404 error when I try to download the Mac OS X version of Oracle SQL Developer. The download page is at
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index.html
And it links to the Mac version at:
http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper-2.1.0.63.73-macosx.tar.gz
Which doesn't exist.
Is this the correct forum to report this problem?
Thanks
MickI don't know what to say: I went to this link
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html
Clicked on Download in the upper right corner, re-accepted the whatever-they-wanted-me-to-accept and then the OSX download suddenly worked. Give it a spin and see if a circuit like that works for you.
Good luck!
