  • Turn off display on sql*plus and increase memory for oracle?

    I want to turn off the output display on SQL*PLUS window and SPOOL the output to a file since the result is very big. i tried to SET TERM OFF but it doesn't work. Anybody knows what's the problem? or is there some other commands to use? My oracle is 9i. thx!!! And anybody knows how to increase the memory usage size for Oracle's jrew.exe? it's too slow when i try to retrieve some big size data from oracle.

    I just answered this question on the OTN -> General forum. You could try the SQL*Plus startup switch -s to startup SQL*Plus in silent mode, eg:
    C:\SQLPLUS -S

  • Can Oracle Express Edition be used for Internet Web Projects?

    Hi,
    If we have a simple WWW application accessible from internet via WEB server and Web server uses Oracle Express Edition as a "data storage", can Oracle XE be used without violating license (XE limitations)?
    Thank you!

    Don't see why not, although a quote from the Oracle Technology Network Developer License Terms for Oracle Database 11g Express Edition page at the License Rights section, "developing, prototyping and running your applications for your own internal data processing operation..." so that might be leaning into a bit of a grey area. A bit.
    But with something available on the web you'll want to be sure to stay up to date with security patches- and unfortunately XE can not be patched. Just because something can be done, and even works for its intended purpose, doesn't necessarily mean that it is a "good thing to do".
    Nothing wrong with trying something out for learning and figuring out how things work- apex is a nifty development platform, although I've not kept up with the details of the last couple of versions. Too many other things on the "got to learn this, got to do that" list(s).

  • Oracle Express Edition And Windows Encrypted File System (EFS)

    Hello,
    I want to use oracle express edition with windows encrypted file system. I tried some possibilities like encrypting xe folder. But connection can not be established when efs is used. Is there a compatibility problem between oracle xe and windows efs? On Oracle's page, it is declared that oracle database is compatible with Windows EFS.
    Thank you for help.

    Pl identify which version of Win 7 - 32-bit or 64-bit ? Home version or something else ?
    The 11g XE install is only available for 32-bit version of Win 7 Professional or higher - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH. If you are installing on 64-bit version or Home version of Windows, then you are on your own. What is the reason for enabling EFS on this database ?

  • Can I use Oracle Express Edition for Educational purposes?

    Dears,
    I have an Information Technology school and I'm wondering if I can use Oracle Express Edition for Educational purposes. Do I need any special licenses for this?
    I noticed the following statement on Oracle 11g Express download (Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2) but would like to confirm if I have any restrictions about that.
    "Oracle Database XE is a great starter database for:

  • Oracle express edition and JDBC licensing question

    Hi all,
    I am writing a web application that requires a database to work. I also will be selling this application. which leads me to these questions:
    1) legally can i use the oracle express edition?
    2) legally can i use the oracle JDBC driver?
    Thanks,

    Based on the discussions in the XE forum (confirmed by Oracle representatives in official capacity) as well as the license agreement (which you should take to your lawyer tp etermine how to set up the paperwork for your application):
    You can include the Oracle Express Edition in your application. You can charge for your application and give no money back to Oracle for the use of Oracle Express Edition. You can distribute the client-side JDBC that is included in XE as well.
    But - you can not hold Oracle responsible for the operation of the database, nor ask them for support or patches.
    As Eric says - join us over in the XE forum for more discussion of this.

    Hello I developed a small applicaion for insert data into database.but i am getting exception in the server like this.
    app failed due to java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-01401: inserted value too large for column

    Hello sir..
    thanks for ur reply...
    for oracle 10g -----> we use XE as datasourse
    name..What?
    now i am using oracle 8i...Not so from the code you posted. Didn't I see "jdbc:odbc:..." in your first post?
    so what should i
    write...in the datasourse name...that means.......
    Connection
    con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@loc
    alhost:1521:????????","scott","tiger");Do you really use the default username and password?
    What should i write in place of ?????????..The name of the database you wish to connect to, of course.
    Do you have your tnsnames.ora set up properly? Did you install this database?
    None of this has ANYTHING to do with the error you posted, of course. Fix that first and then worry about the thin driver. At least it appears that the code you posted managed to connect to the database.

    I have just installed Oracle8i and i m trying to connect a project to d database using ODBC. I gave
    Driver class name as sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver

    hi
    dbgen is your project name? it should be the dsn name that has to be mentioned. Go to control panel->administrative tools>data sources and add the type of driver required.
    import java.sql.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.*;

        ds.setDatabaseName("orcl"); // sid
        ds.setUser("scott");
        ds.setPassword("tiger");
        Connection conn = ds.getConnection();
        Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();

  • Any time limitations(expire day) for the Oracle Express Edition?

    Any time limitations(expire day) for the Oracle Express Edition?

    If what you meant is like " Is the Oracle Express Edition software has any expiry date if you download it free " , The answer is no .. coz as you should be using the same for learning purpose ... there is no need for a license and you can use the software as much as you can with its full functionality .

    I believe that starting with 9.2, you have to specify different passwords when you install (can't be the default).

  • How to add additional disks on vmware OEL4 and use it for Oracle 10gR2?

    I created a virtual machine on vmware workstation 6 and installed OEL4.
    during first install I created 20 GB disk but now I want to add more disks.
    from vmware documentation I tried to add more 8 gb disk to the virtual host.
    under devices I see two lines;
    Hard Disk (SCSI 0:0) 20.0 GB
    Hard Disk (SCSI 0:2) 8.0 GB
    but I must be missing some step since I can not see 20 + 8 gb at df;
    [root@antuhost ~]# df -h

    /dev/sda1              13G  9.7G  2.3G  82% /

  • Will there ever be an Oracle Express Edition for Mac OSX

    I am curious if Oracle Express Edition will ever be ported for developers who use Mac computers?

    This is about the same question as the famous question 'How many divisions has the Pope', asked by Stalin.
    This is mainly an issue of marketshare.
    I don't think Oracle will be very much interested in porting OracleXE to Mac OSX.
    But I might be wrong.
