SQL for multiple checkboxes

Hello!
I'm stuck on a SQL statement that I was wondering if someone
could possibly assist me with.
I working on a search page for a particular company site of
antique dealers. There is a "Search By Categories" section on the
main search page where users can select multiple checkboxes to
return any antique dealers in those categories.
When the search button is clicked, a comma delimited string
of category IDs is passed to the search results page. (ex.
"2,14,15,20,22,25,37,40")
Each antique dealer has a database field that contains a
comma delimited list of any category IDs that they are associated
with since they can be associated with more than one category if
they'd like to be...and just about all of them are currently
associated with more than one category
SO...we have a string being passed from the search page that
could look something like this: 2,14,18,20,22,25,37,40,64
...and in the database each dealer has a DealerCats field for
all the categories they're associated with that might look like
this: 6,7,18,30,64,66
My question is: how can I write the select statement to
basically say "select all dealers from the Dealers table where any
of the passed category IDs (clicked on from the search page) exist
in the DealerCats field for each dealer?"
I already tried something to the effect of:
SELECT * FROM DEALERS
WHERE DealerCats IN (#FORM.dealerCat#)
...but this did not work. I don't get an error, I just get a
blank content area (the rest of the template is not broken in any
way...just blank area where either results should appear or a "no
results" message should appear.
Also, I DID create a page that displays both the form value
of the selected checkboxes as well as any given DealerCats field in
the database to make sure that both are comma separated values
formatted exactly the same.
Unfortunately, I am unable to provide outside access to the
testing server that I'm working off of for this particular company,
so I do apologize.
However, if anyone understands what it is I am trying to
accomplish and can based on my explanation, I hope that will help.
Feel free to ask for any additional clarification.
Thank you very much!!!

Hi,
Thanks for responding!
I need a little clarification, if you don't mind, so please
bear with me here...
Basically, I created a database admin tool to add/edit/delete
dealers and categories because other users will need to eventually
need to have access to it. For each dealer record, a list of
checkboxes is dynamically created (linked from the categories
table) so that any given category can be clicked on that the dealer
would like to be associated with.
If all I needed to do is display the categories, this would
be fine.
If only ONE category was allowed and I only needed to do a
check against one category, this would also probably be fine.
So, I was hoping I could try to still make this work since
the database admin tool was proving to work very well up til this
point. But you are right...a many-to-many setup is going to be the
way to go, it seems (and in most cases, it usually is anyway).
My guess is you're suggesting a 3rd table (a many-to-many
table) that has one column that has Dealer IDs and another that has
Category IDs that are both linked from the Dealers and Categories
tables. Yes?
My quesion is: since each dealer can be associated with more
than one category, and the object is to do away with a comma
delimited list, are you suggesting it be set up so that each dealer
ID would be repeated 1 record at a time for each different category
it's associated with? For example:
DealerID | CategoryID
1 10
1 15
1 22
1 40
2 1
2 8
2 18
2 21
2 22
2 25
2 35
3 12
3 20
3 34
...etc. etc. etc.
I'm just trying to make sure I'm understanding what you would
suggest here.
Thanks so much for your assistance!
Best,
Tony

  • Emailing with PL/SQL for multiple domains

    Hey guys!
    I've looked around within this forum and couldn't find the situation im trying to figure out. Im trying to build an email functionality within my dev laptop database instance. It seems like I need to have a email server set up. Is that correct? It makes me a little nervous if that is true. The database im working with will manage transactions from a few different internet companies, which will all have a different email server. I'm really hoping I will not have to set up an email server for each client this database handles.
    Is there anyway to write an emailing procedure which will not use the database server's domain? Let me know. I've never dealt with email servers, so this is a bit confusing.

  • SQL Command code for multiple value string parameter

    Hi,
    I'm using crystal 2008 and there is a check box for multiple value  SQL Command  I need some help in writing the SQL Command code  for oracle (or sql server) for a multiple value STRING  parameter.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marilyn

    I could be wrong here, but I do not believe you can pass a multiple valued parameter to an SQL Command data source.  How I have gotten around this in the past is to put the "real" report into a subreport.  In the main report, create a formula field (basic syntax):
    formula = join({?parameter}, "|")
    Then, use this to pass the selected values to the subreport's parameter (call it {?sr-parm}).  The SQL Command in the subreport can then use that (MS SQL):
    select *
    from table
    where charindex(table.field, '{?sr-parm}') > 0

  • Passing variables to SQL query from checkboxes

    Hello,
    I have a cursor which gets different ids from an id table. The cursor is something like this:
    CURSOR id IS
             SELECT distinct id_ FROM I
                      order by id_;I then iterated through the cursor to made checkboxes to choose multiple ids:
    FOR i IN id
           LOOP
            htp.p('<tr>
           <DIV align="left"><td><input type="checkbox" name="option" value=ID '||i.id_||'> </td></tr>');
             htp.p('<font size="'||3||'">'
             ID'||i.id_||'</a></font>'
             ||'</a>' );
           htp.br;
           END LOOP;The values of the checkboxes were extracted by:
    var ids ="";
    for (var j = 0;j < document.form.option.length; j++)
                 if (document.form.option[j].checked)
                     ids = ids + document.lf.option1[j].value + "\n";
            }I have the following SQL query:
    Select * from Persons where Identification = ...; I would like to use to pass the values of the checkboxes (i.e. the variable ids ) to my SQL query. I want the user to select multiple values for the checkboxes. For example, they can select 4 and 3. I want to pass the difference to my SQL query....that is, I want the id to be 1. So, I want this:
    Select * from Persons where Identification = 1; Any ideas how to do this? Also my code above is in different procedures within a single package.

    Your requirement is not very clear. What happens when you select 3 checkboxes? What will be the difference between them? How do you pass that information to the oracle report?

  • Return Code - Query for Multiple Rows as XML

    Hi,
    I'm executing an MSSQL stored procedure through the "Query for Multiple Rows as XML" activity in LiveCycle ES. I do this through a call statement such as this:
    { call MyStoredProc(?) }
    This works great, the stored procedure always returns a record set (with or without records). I use this activity rather than "Call Stored Procedure" because I can transform the record set into XML right away within this activity. Unfortunately any exception arising from invoking this stored procedure cannot be handled within the workflow as this activity does not have an exception handler (lightning bolt). In an attempt to handle at least some exceptions we have decided to use try/catches within the stored procedures and return different error codes. Now the problem I am faced with is that there is no way to retrieve the returned code within any of the SQL activities. We don't want to have to write an execute script for each of these SQL calls. Is there any way to do this? Seems like I'm 95% there.
    Thanks
    Nic

    Thanks for the offer, unfortunately we would need something certified by Adobe.

  • Use of LIKE in where clause of select statement for multiple records

    Hi Experts,
    I have a account number field which is uploaded from a file. Now this account numbers uploaded does not match fully with sap table account numbers but it contains all of the numbers provided in the file mostly in the upright positions.
    For example in file we have account number as 2ARS1 while in sap table the value is 002ARS1.
    And i want to fetch data from sap table based on account number uploaded. So, i am trying to use LIKE with for all entries but its not working as mentioned below but LIKE is not working with FOR ALL ENTRIES.
    data : begin of t_dda occurs 0,
            dda(19) type c,
           end of t_dda.
    data : begin of t_bukrs occurs 0,
            bukrs type t012k-bukrs,
           end of t_bukrs.
    data : dda type t012k-bankn,
           w_dda type t012k-bankn.
    CONCATENATE '%'
                             '2ARS1'
                     INTO  W_DDA.
    MOVE W_DDA TO T_DDA-DDA.
    APPEND T_DDA.
    CLEAR T_DDA.
    free t_bukrs.
    SELECT BUKRS
      FROM T012K
      into TABLE t_bukrs
        for all entries in t_dda
    WHERE BANKN like t_dda-dda.
    Can anybody suggest what should i use to get the data for multiple account numbers using one select statement only instead on using SELECT UP TO 1 ROWS in LOOP....ENDLOOP ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Akash

    Hi,
    yes, For All entries won't work for LIKE with '%  '.
    I think the other alternative is go for Native SQL by writing sub-query
    sample code is here:
    data: begin of i_mara occurs 0,
              matnr like mara-matnr,
              matkl like mara-matkl,
           end of i_mara.
    exec sql.
    select matnr, matkl from mara where matnr in (select matnr from marc) and matnr like '%ma' into :i_mara
    endexec.
    loop at i_mara.
    write:/ i_mara-matnr, i_mara-matkl.
    endloop.
    hope u got it.

  • What are the possible approches for hosting a product(custom SP application) for multiple clients on a single SharePoint farm?

    We have a product which is a custom application based on SharePoint Foundation 2010. Right now, for each of our client we create a dedicated server and host the application in the standalone deployment. Now, the requirement is to host multiple clients in a
    farm deployment.
    Challenges are: 1. The product has same name for the wsp that is deployed on different client servers as of now. How to distinguish for different clients on same farm
    Currently the product specific css and jquery is in 14 hive. These files will be of difefrent versions for different client. How to segregate that?
    How many web applications is recommend to be created in a single SPF 2010 farm? What are the challenges?
    There are a couple of DBs created in SQL for the application. What is the best way to separate those for the client?
    Essentially its the same product but with different versions for each client that we want to deploy in a single farm. What is the best practice to tackle this?

    For the most part, these are not SharePoint questions per se, but product-specific questions you'd better ask the vendor about. To get in some more detail:
    1. It totally depends on the scope of the solution. If its global, then you're out of luck and any changes you make affect all instances that use it. Better ask the vendor about it.
    2. Not that many, let's say < 10, assuming you're web applications have separate application pools. Check out  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787(v=office.14).aspx#WebApplication for
    more info.
    3. This is very application specific and really should be answered by the vendor. Not related to SharePoint at all.
    4. Again, really depends on the product so better ask the vendor.
    Good luck!

  • Can we use single DB Adapter for multiple tables

    Hi,
    I have 3 tables. ONE is the Master table and other 2 tables having Primary and foreign key relationships with the Master Table.
    Data is enter in the Tables 2 & 3 (based on Master Table Primary key)
    I have to use a DB Adapter in BPEL Process which will be in Transaction (what type of Transaction is Best in such a Scenario).
    - How do i implement it in BPEL.
    - Can i use a Single DB Adapter for Multiple Tables ? (*Views* should not be created for tables 1, 2 & 3),
    as we want to avoid using multiple DB Adapters, as in future Tables may increase or decrease...
    - while in Transaction if Table 2 fails in Inserting / Updating, it should roll back on error and also if Table 3 fails in Inserting / Updating, it should roll back table 2 and Table 3.
    - how access to concurrent users is maintained / managed in such a scenarios.
    But everything should be done using Single DB Adapter without creating a separate view.
    Is this Possible in BPEL..
    If not, How do we design, Implementation such a BPEL Process in Transaction with a best in Performance (both BPEL Process & DB Resources)
    thanks in advance
    thanks & regards,
    anvv sharma

    Hi,
    Thanks for your quick response.
    I have few quires.
    If we use PL/SQL, how do we implement transaction and Exception Handling appropriately based on the Error / Exception in BPEL.
    If the Table 2 or Table 3 gives out Error / Exception, i have to handle it separately and intimate accordingly.
    Suppose, if Table 2 got Error / Exception - Error Handling would be 'Roll back due to error in Table2'
    Thanks & regads,

  • What is a efficient SQL for this query ?

    Hi,
    I am using 9.2 database. Suppose I am having following 2 tables
    Table p having only one column i.e. 'a'. Values in this column are
    a1
    b1
    c1
    d1
    Table Q having three columns a, b, c
    a1, 1, 100
    a1, 2, 50
    b1, 1, 30
    b1, 2, 40
    d1, 2, 90
    Table Q can be joined only using column a.
    Table Q can have multiple or no records for column a in table p. Based on above sample data, I want following output
    a1, 100, 50
    b1, 30, 40
    c1
    d1, 90
    Kindly tell be how can I achive this in most efiicient way !!!
    thanks & regards
    PJP

    I only have you two tracks about how do it.
    If you want all the columns from p with or wihout q you have to do:
    11:35:58 SQL> l
    1 select p.*, q.*
    2 from p,q
    3* where p.a = q.a (+)
    11:37:27 SQL> /
    For change the order of the colums for rows you can see the url, the are more examples like that only need to search "columns for rows" in this forums.
    Anyway:
    with rt as
    select 'a1' a, 1 b, 100 c from dual union
    select 'a1', 2, 50 from dual union
    select 'b1', 1, 30 from dual union
    select 'b1', 2, 40 from dual union
    select 'd1', 2, 90 from dual)
    --select * from rt
    select a, decode('1','0','0',rtrim(xmlagg(xmlelement(b, b || ',')).extract('//text()'),',')) b
    , decode('1','0','0',rtrim(xmlagg(xmlelement(c, c || ',')).extract('//text()'),','))
    from rt
    group by a

    Other way:
    select a, ltrim(b,',') as b, ltrim(c,',') as c
    from (
    select row_number() over (partition by a order by length(b) desc) as rn, a, b,c
    from (select a, sys_connect_by_path(b, ',') as b,
              sys_connect_by_path(c, ',') as c
    from (
    select row_number() over (partition by a order by b) as rn, a, b,c
    from rt) y
    connect by rn = prior rn + 1 and prior a = a
    start with rn = 1
    where rn = 1

  • The file size of selected file in input file control is shown as 0 for multiple file selection in Safari 5.1

    The file size of selected file in input file control is shown as 0 for multiple file selection in Safari 5.1. If you select single file, then it is able to return file size correctly. However, if you select multiple files, then the file size of each of the selected file is always returned as 0 from javascript. This works correctly in Safari 4.0 but it does not work in Safari 5.1.
    How do I get the correct file size in Safari 5.1 ?

    If you want to post (or send me) a link to the lrcat file, I'd take a look at it for you, and give you a break-down what's consuming all the bytes. But it might be fun to learn how to do that yourself (e.g. using SQL). I use SQLiteSpy, but other people have their favorites.. (or you can use a command-line client if you prefer..). One way: just run "drop table "{table-name}" on each table then look at filesize (do this to a copy, not the real thing).
    Anyway, it's hard to imagine keywords and captions etc. taking much of the space, since even if you had 1000 10-character words of text metadata per photo average that still only adds up to 117MB, which isn't a substantial portion of that 8G you're seeing occupied.
    Anyway, if you've painted the heck out of most of them and not cleared dev history, that'll do it - that's where I'd put my money too...
    One thing to consider to keep file-size down:
    ===================================
    * After reaching a milestone in your editing, take a snapshot then clear edit history, or the top part of it anyway (e.g. leave the import step), using a preset like:
    Clear Edit History.lrtemplate
    s = {
        id = "E36E8CB3-B52B-41AC-8FA9-1989FAFD5223",
        internalName = "No Edit",
        title = "Clear Edit History",
        type = "Develop",
        value = {
            settings = {
                NoEdit = true,
            uuid = "34402820-B470-4D5B-9369-0502F2176B7F",
        version = 0,
    (that's my most frequently used preset, by far ;-})
    PS - I've written a plugin called DevHistoryEditor, which can auto-consolidate steps and reduce catalog size - it's a bit cumbersome to use a.t.m. but in case you're interested...

  • Prompt used as view selector for multiple reports

    Hi All,
    Can a dashboard prompt be used as View Selector for multiple reports? If yes, please let me know how?
    Thanks
    Sumita

    Hi Sumita,
    You can do this with Dashboard prompts, but it's a little tricky. I'll highlight the process below. Keep In mind I assume you have three reports already created and have three views: View 1, View 2 and View 3.
    Phase I: The Dashboard Prompt
    1. Create a new dashboard prompt.
    2. Add any single column to your prompt. It doesn't really matter which one (just make sure nothing is prompted on it to be safe).
    3. For the sake of this example, I'll assume we added column: "Test Folder"."Test Field"
    4. Make sure your Operator is "is equal to/is in"
    5. Make sure the control is "Drop-down List"
    6. Change the Show to "SQL Results"
    7. Write a SQL statement similar to the following (TEST =<your subject area>, "Test Folder"."Test Field" = <your column>):
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=2 THEN "Test Folder"."Test Field" ELSE 'View 1' END
    FROM TEST
    UNION
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=2 THEN "Test Folder"."Test Field" ELSE 'View 2' END
    FROM TEST
    UNION
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=2 THEN "Test Folder"."Test Field" ELSE 'View 3' END
    FROM TEST
    **Note: The reason why we need to do the CASE statement is because every logical query needs at least 1 presentation column. The case statement is a way to include the presentation column, but since the statement 1=2 is never true, we always use the ELSE condition.
    8. Set a presentation variable. Call it VIEW_PVAR
    9. Have the Prompt default to Specific Value: View 1
    10. Save the Dashboard Prompt and put it into the Dashboard with your reports.
    Phase II: Filter Reports
    1. Create a new Answer request
    2. Bring in your test column twice
    3. Change the formula (fx) on the second column to be: '@{VIEW_PVAR}{View 1}'
    4. Now add a filter to the presentation variable column
    5. Set the operator to "is equal to/is in' and set the value to: View 1
    6. Save the Request as "View 1 Filter"
    7. Change the value in the filter to: View 2
    8. Save the Request as "View 2 Filter"
    9. Change the value in the filter to: View 3
    10. Save the Request as "View 3 Filter"
    Phase III: Guided Navigation
    1. Create three sections in your dashboard
    2. Rename each section to: View 1, View 2 and View 3 respectively
    3. For each of the sections, do the following:
    3a. Click on properties
    3b. Click on Guided navigation
    3c. Set the Guided Navigation to the appropriate Filter report
    4. For each of the three sections, do the following:
    4a. Add in all three requests
    4b. Click on the request properties and select Show and the appropriate view for that section
    5. Save your changes to your Dashboard
    Good luck and if you found this post useful, please award points!
    Best regards,
    -Joe
