  • Using native sql for update

    Hello ,
    I have a reqaust to update a db table declared "outside" our R3 db.
    I mennage to select the data using native sql with a connection to the db.
    Now i need to modify the data on the db.
    Is there a similliar command like "fetch next" ' for update?
    Mybe i need to build a procedure in th "host" db and use its own commands to update?
    Thanks,
    koby

    Hello Kobi,
    Which release of SAP are you woking on?
    If you're on ECC6.0, instead you using Native SQL to call the stored procs of external DBs you can use the [ADBC APIs |http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_702/en/abenadbc_procedure.htm](CL_SQL* classes).

  • Help needed in PL/SQL for updating the column for multiple records

    Hi,
    I am new to PL/SQL and need some help. What is the most effiecient way to update some field in a table as I may need to update thousands of records. I have a coulmn groupid can have multiple records tied to it. All the records attached to some groupid have a priority field also.
    How can I update the prorityfield value for all the groupids in a profiecient way. Here is a sample data
    GroupId     Priority
    1            1
    1            2
    1            3
    1            4
    1            5
    2            1
    2            2
    2            3
    3            1Here I have three groups 1, 2, 3. Now if any group contains only one record the priority remains same e.g. groupid=3 on top. If any group contains more than one record e.g. groupid=1 & 2 I want to re-arrange the priority fields e.g. If I want to update groupid=1 now if I change the priority of 2 to 5 (make it the last) I want to rearrange the remaing records priority i.e. if 2 becomes 5 as I have 5 rows for groupid=1 then 5 becomes 4, 4 becomes 3, 3 becomes 2 and 1 remains the same.
    Same wya if I want to make the priority 1 to 3 for groupid=2 then need 2 to become 1 and 3 to become 2 etc....
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You don't need PL/SQL to do this (though you can put the following in PL/SQL if you want to):
    UPDATE     table_x
    SET     priority = CASE
                   WHEN  groupid     = 1
                   AND   priority = 2
                        THEN  5
                   WHEN  groupod     = 1
                   AND   priority     BETWEEN 3 AND 5
                        THEN  priority - 1
                   WHEN  groupid = 2
                   THEN
                        CASE
                             WHEN  prioity = 1
                             THEN  3
                             ELSE  priority - 1
                        END
                 END
    WHERE     groupId          IN (1, 2)
    AND     (     priority     BETWEEN 2 AND 5
         OR     groupid          = 2
         );There are lots of different techniques that can reduce your coidng: for example, the nested CASE statement used for groupid=2 above.
    You could do several smaller UPDATEs (for example, one just for groupid=1). Execution will be slower, but coding and testing will be faster.
    You could make the "magic numbers" 2 (for groupid=1) and 1 (for groupid=2) variables, even outside of PL/SQL.
    If you need more help, post the information that Satyaki requested.

  • What's wrng with my SQL for UPDATE function?

    Hi guy..I need help with this Prepared Statement please.It generates an error saying "Syntax errorin SQL"
    String sql = "UPDATE Cust_Order SET" +
                   " (Costing_Date,Customer,Part_Number,Part_Name,Model_No,Total_Cost,Selling_Price)" +
                    " values" + " (?,?,?,?,?,?,?) WHERE ID = "+Dbid+" ";
             PreparedStatement pstm = conn.prepareStatement(sql);
             int col = 1;
             pstm.setString(col++, todate);
             pstm.setString(col++, customer);
             pstm.setString(col++, partNom);
             pstm.setString(col++, partName);
             pstm.setString(col++, modelNom);
             pstm.setString(col++, totalCost);
             pstm.setString(col++, sellPrice);
             pstm.executeUpdate();
    stmt.close();
    conn.close();
    %>

    The sql syntax you are using is the one you use for insert statements.
    the update syntax looks like
    String sql = "UPDATE Cust_Order SET Costing_Date =? , Customer = ?, ... WHERE ID = "+Dbid;

  • How to create a form or report on a view or on a sql for update

    Let's suppose to have this two tables:
    BOOKS(title, author, id_tongue)
    TONGUE(id_tongue, tongue)
    where TONGUE contains (1, english), (2, french), ...
    I want to create a report and a form (for inserting new books) so as to insert the right values in the two tables.
    I've created a view VIEW_BOOKS(title, author, tongue) and an instead-of-trigger to update the two tables when inserting into the view itself. The problem is that with APEX it seems to me it's only possible to define a form or report on tables or on query and not on a view.
    Any advice to give me? Or other solutions?
    I'm quite new on APEX
    Thanks in advance!

    You are mistaken!! what version of apex are you on?

  • Can Someone help with SQL for update ?

    Hi,
    can someone help me with this code
    2 tables.
    table 1 = User_master
    table 2 = update_users
    I need to update user_master like so...
    update user_master
    set status = 'I'
    where user_id IN ()
    problem is I have to over 10k user_id to update.
    So created new table called update_users and imported all user_id's into that table.
    How can I read all user_id's from that table, then update user_master status column for all
    users id's found in update_users ?
    I already tried this...
    update p.user_id from user_master p
    set status = 'I'
    where user_id = (select user_id from update_users where p.user_id=user_id)
    It did not work -

    Thanks,

    There are no duplicates. Each user_id is unique.Are you sure? the error message indicates otherwise. You might see if the following query returns any rows;
    select user_id, count(*)
    from update_users
    group by user_id
    having count(*) > 1;Also, you might want to post the exact statement that you used to generate the error. The statement that you posted raises an error de to the syntax;
    update p.user_id from user_master p
    set status = 'I'

    Krist,
    we added a new SQL Flavor 'SQLServer' in JDeveloper 10.1.2
    This was implemented to handle special SQL syntax of SQLServer, different from SQL92 (among others the FOR UPDATE problem you're facing).
    For new projects, you can select this flavor during their creation. For projects that were defined with Flavor SQL92, you can switch to SQLServer at runtime by setting the parameter jbo.SQLBuilder=SQLServer (in your Application Module configuration or as a java option -Djbo.SQLBuilder=...)

    Didier.

  • How to disable check for updates in sql developer 3.2

    Is there a possibility to disable or remove the "Check for Updates" option in SQL Developer 3.2.2 version.
    I have tried using the below AddVmMOption but it is not working
    AddVMOption -Dide.noextensions=oracle.ide.webupdate
    AddVMOption -Dide.cfu.autoskip=true

    Hi,
    If you are referring to Help -> Check for Updates, I'm not certain if that is possible.
    If you mean Tools -> Preferences -> Extensions, just uncheck the Automatically Check for Updates box. Doing that is standard procedure for improving the tool's launch performance.

  • Performance manager sql action rule for updating metric table

    Hi, I need to update metric stop_date using a sql action rule (Performance Manager execute sql action rule). My problem is I can't update stop_date into the PM Repository Database. Sql action database connection is properly set, but when I set sql for executing update in table ci_probe and I schedule the rule the system doesn't seem to connect to Database (the rule run successfully, but the table ci_probe is not updated). I don't understand if the problem is database connection or wrong sql code.
    Can Anyone help me with suggestions or sql action rule samples?
    Thanks

    Experts,
    I am getting "java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-02014: cannot select FOR UPDATE from view with DISTINCT, GROUP BY, etc" exception and it leads to one or more setter methods of the VO. I checked the respective attribute in the VO to see if it refers to any LOV with sql having Distinct or group by clause, but it is a normal attribute.
    Any idea how do i resolve this error ?

  • SQL Developer 2.1 Disable Automatically Check for Updates bug?

    Unchecking the "Automatically Check for Updates" under Preferences -> Extensions in version 1.5.5 to disables the prompting for proxy ID and password at SQL Developer startup. Unfortunately I am trying version 2.1 on Windows XP and unchecking this option under Extensions is having no affect. It is still prompting for proxy ID and password every time I start SQL Developer. This is extremely annoying.
    Is this a known bug with 2.1?
    Mike

    I get that prompt for a Proxy as well. If I can download SQL Developer 2.1 without a Proxy then why am I prompted for one when I am checking for updates?!?
    I have to uncheck the Proxy and uncheck check for Automatic Updates.
    Even if I tried to use the default proxy it does not exist (I tried pinging emeacache.uk.oracle.com and it just times out and there is no DNS record either).
    I have been able to finally get a few updates but still have problems with getting the JTDS and MySQL updates. I am wondering if there is a problem with Oracle's websites that are trying to be contacted to download these updates. I think Oracle's Check for Updates Wizard still has bugs that need fixing. I have had these problems not just with this new 2.1 but with previous versions as well.
    I hope Oracle fixes their buggy Check for Updates Wizard or the web sites that are being contacted for the updates because this is very frustrating.

  • PL/SQL cursor with FOR UPDATE STATEMENT

    Welcome,
    I have some troubles with cursors. When I try update values in table using cursor i receive ORA-01410 Error : "INVALID ROWID".
    I use code as below:
    ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA=TEST_SCHEMA;
    DECLARE
    TYPE LogTable_typ IS TABLE OF ADMIN_FILE_LOG%ROWTYPE;
    v_ModuleId KTIMS.ADMIN_FILE_LOG.MODULE_ID%TYPE;
    v_CDR KTIMS.ADMIN_FILE_LOG.CDR_SUCCESS%TYPE;
    CURSOR c1 IS
    SELECT MODULE_ID, cdr_success FROM ADMIN_FILE_LOG
    FOR UPDATE OF CDR_SUCCESS NOWAIT;
    BEGIN
    OPEN c1;
    LOOP
    FETCH c1 INTO v_ModuleId,v_CDR;
    IF v_ModuleId = 'LOAD' THEN
    UPDATE ADMIN_FILE_LOG SET CDR_SUCCESS = 70 WHERE CURRENT OF c1;
    END IF;
    EXIT WHEN c1%NOTFOUND;
    END LOOP;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(SQLERRM || SQLCODE);
    END;
    When I use ROWID in cursor declaration all works fine.Working code is:
    ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA=KTIMS;
    DECLARE
    TYPE LogTable_typ IS TABLE OF ADMIN_FILE_LOG%ROWTYPE;
    v_ModuleId KTIMS.ADMIN_FILE_LOG.MODULE_ID%TYPE;
    v_CDR KTIMS.ADMIN_FILE_LOG.CDR_SUCCESS%TYPE;
    v_id ROWID;
    CURSOR c1 IS
    SELECT MODULE_ID, cdr_success, ROWID FROM ADMIN_FILE_LOG
    FOR UPDATE OF CDR_SUCCESS NOWAIT;
    BEGIN
    OPEN c1;
    LOOP
    FETCH c1 INTO v_ModuleId,v_CDR,v_id;
    IF v_ModuleId = 'LOAD' THEN
    UPDATE ADMIN_FILE_LOG SET CDR_SUCCESS = 70 WHERE ROWID = v_id;
    END IF;
    EXIT WHEN c1%NOTFOUND;
    END LOOP;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(SQLERRM || SQLCODE);
    END;
    What is difference in this two cases ?
    I try to find this in Oracle documentation "Database PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference" ( http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/sqloperations.htm#i45288 ).
    Please help.

    Hi,
    I think the USE of NOWAIT clause in cursor for update is, to remove the lock immediately after the transaction is over.
    In the second example where you are fetching the rowid explicitly and use the same id in loop to make the update, so there should not be any problem in this case.
    In the first example when you are using CURRENT OF to do the update, it is basically work on basis of latest fetched row from cursor and do the update (but i think implicitly it use the reference of row id also).
    I am not sure about it , but still try once by removing the NOWAIT clause from your cursor for update and try once , see whether you are still facing the error or not.

  • Sql developer won't connect to internet to check for updates

    Hi all,
    When I try to check the latest updates, Sql Developer (2.1.0.63) says it can't access to Internet in order to search for updates.
    The credentials that I gave are correct (proxy, port, username, password) : when I click on the "Test Proxy" button, it says everything is OK.
    But when I click on the "OK" button, it won't connect.
    Then I click on the "Cancel" button, and check the details and get the following stack trace:

  • IMPORTANT: SQL Developer 1.2.1 Check For Updates Notice

    Please note:
    The Check For Updates notification yesterday and today (16th or 17th Aug) included a file with a number mismatch. This caused SQL Developer to continue to prompt for new Updates. This is also why a new installation of SQL Developer 1.2.1.32.00 prompted for Updates. This error has been repaired. You can now use Check for Updates to update from SQL Developer 1.2 to 1.2.1.
    It remains true that after you have run Check for Updates that you must do a second restart. This is related to the framework and is a known issue.Without the second restart you will not be able to invoke the SQL Worksheet.
    We have identified 2 errors that will be addressed, with new updates sent out using Check for Updates as soon as we can. These two errors are that reports with Charts do not currently work, and non-privileged users can't view tables.
    The team apologizes for the inconvenience.
    Regards
    Sue Harper
    Product Manager

    Hello Sue,
    I just proceeded the update on my working machine too.
    The version number what I talked about (on this machine) was 1.1.2.25 before and still is the same after the update.
    (This is different from my home machine.)
    By the way - I had to restart SQL Dev two times before it realized, that it already has the latest updates. One restart still seems to be not enough.
    Yes I know that all the extensions has it's own versions.
    But for me the question remains: What is the version info under "Help-> About" (in my case 1.1.0.21.) good for? If this number has a meaning - what is it? and if it has no meaning (and only the version number of every single extension is interesting) why does these version number exist at all?
    You said: until then I recommend you use the full download.
    Question: Is it guarantied, that (at any time) the full download always has all latest extensions ?
    Regards
    Andre
