SQL in Script Question

I am using the SQL below in the AftExportToDat event script, and I am receiving a data access error message(2147467259). The error log states ORA-00936 - Missing Expression.
strSQL = "SELECT PartLastExpFile FROM tPOVPartition WHERE PartName=" & strLoc
If I hard code the location name, then the SQL works
strSQL = "SELECT PartLastExpFile FROM tPOVPartition WHERE PartName= 'LOC1' "
Can anyone point out my error?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I made the corrections with the quotes. As a result, I am getting an 'Either BOF or EOF is True' error. I am putting the script in the reply, so that is visible to everyone.
Dim strExpFileName
strSQL = "SELECT PartLastExpFile FROM tPOVPartition WHERE PartName='" & strLoc & "'"
set rs = DW.DataAccess.farsFireHose(strSQL,False)
strExpFileName = rs.fields("PartLastExpFile")
rs.Close
Set rs = Nothing

  • Newbie Forte 4GL SQL and script question

    Kudos to all contributing to this forum. I appreciate all the info I have
    been receiving.
    I have a Forte 4GL question that someone may be able to help me with. I
    have created a simple window class with a number of fields and a button.
    When I press the button I want to take the values for each field and map
    them to the appropriate column name in an oracle table.
    The database and the table have already been created. I have verified in
    SQL that I can query the table and I have created the Database manager in
    the environment console. I have also created a DBSession service object
    with the approprate information in the Database Tab.
    I am unsure what the syntax should look like and where to put the SQL
    statement.
    Let's say the Window Class is called "Prototype" and the oracle table is
    called "Table".
    On the Prototype the field names are LastName, FirstName, and Address.
    The corresponding column names are LNAME, FNAME, ADDRESS.
    Can I put a sql insert statement in the Display method in the window class?
    self.Open();
    event loop
        when <CreateBtn>.Click do
                    self.Window.MessageDialog
                            (MessageText='You have clicked the Create button.
    Information will be committed and sent for processing',
                            MessageType=MT_INFO);
    ?<SQL insert statement>?
            when task.Shutdown do
                    exit;
    end event;
    self.Close();
    Lastly, how would one code in TOOL a command to call a shell script?
    The shell script will reside on a UNIX box (same box where the database
    resides) and create a flatfile of the data I just committed to the database
    and then transport it to a remote location. I realize
    there are a number of ways to tacke this. My initial thought is to have
    Forte call a shell script execute a sql command to create a flatfile and
    then handle the transport. The shell script would send a return value to
    Forte indicating the process is complete.
    Thanks for your help.

    to build on pressh's comment, most rc.d scripts have a start, stop, restart case statement form.  i'm not sure if that's required to get it working correctly (i've got a custom dropboxd rc.d script that's giving me headaches at boot time so i won't offer any more "expertise" ).
    now to my main point: it seems by the nature of your script, that that line would be better off in rc.local

    ######################END SCRIPT##################################
    I have 2 questions for help in regards to the above script:
    1)  For the Login and Service Account portion I can't get my output to show up properly.  Here is the snip from the script:
    #Login & Service Account Information#SQL Host Information
    $smo = new-object ('Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server') $computername
    $fragments += "<h3>Login & Service Account Information</h3>"
    $fragments += $smo | select ServiceAccount, Logins | ConvertTo-HTML -Fragment
    Here is how the output shows for this portion:
    ServiceAccount
    Logins
    domain\svcAcct
                 Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.LoginCollection
    I would like top have the login information show in the above table of the all the different logins.  When I run the script without HTML for that portion and just output to console it shows the login info as I would expect.
    2)  The 2nd question is, how do I add a variable to the bottom of the script to email the report to said email address.  This is probably simple but can't get my head wrapped around this part.
    Thanks all in advance!

    Thanks AnnaWY, that resolved the portion on how to email the report.  I was also able to utilize the following code which does the same thing as well:
    #Send an email with the contents of the report
    $MailBody= Get-Content $path
    $MailSubject= "SQL Server Report"
    $SmtpClient = New-Object system.net.mail.smtpClient
    $SmtpClient.host = "smtp.server.com"
    $MailMessage = New-Object system.net.mail.mailmessage
    $MailMessage.from = "[email protected]"
    $MailMessage.To.add("[email protected]")
    $MailMessage.Subject = $MailSubject
    $MailMessage.IsBodyHtml = 1
    $MailMessage.Body = $MailBody
    $SmtpClient.Send($MailMessage)
    I still have not been able to resolve the portion regarding the login/service account information not showing up in the table correctly.  For the time being I have removed it from the environment report and instead included it as a script of its own
    in our Security Auditing process.

  • Creating SQL-Loader script for more than one table at a time

    Hi,
    I am using OMWB 2.0.2.0.0 with Oracle 8.1.7 and Sybase 11.9.
    It looks like I can create SQL-Loader scripts for all the tables
    or for one table at a time. If I want to create SQL-Loader
    scripts for 5-6 tables, I have to either create script for all
    the tables and then delete the unwanted tables or create the
    scripts for one table at a time and then merge them.
    Is there a simple way to create migration scripts for more than
    one but not all tables at a time?
    Thanks,
    Prashant Rane

    No there is no multi-select for creating SQL-Loader scripts.
    You can either create them separately or create them all and
    then discard the one you do not need.

  • How to Eliminate Special Character in SQL LOADER Script

    How to eliminate special character from SQL LOADER script file which suppose not to insert in TABLE

    I have to remove < > and / character at the time of loading into table. How It could be done. It is not possible to remove < , > , / character manually from CSV file

    On Unix/Linux that's very easy, on Windows... I don't know...
    $ cat myfile.csv

  • How to detect client OS from SQL*Plus script

    Sometimes in a SQL*Plus script I need to execute OS commands e.g.
    host rm tempfile.bufHowever of course Windows has no "rm" command by default, so I have to edit the script to use
    host del tempfile.bufNow if I could define &DELETE (for example, "cat"/"type" is another) as a substitution variable, I could just use
    host &DELETE tempfile.bufMaybe I need more coffee but all I could come up with was something like this:
    def rm=rm
    def cat=cat
    spool sqlplus_windows_defs.cmd
    prompt echo def rm=del
    prompt echo def cat=type
    spool off
    host .\sqlplus_windows_defs > sqlplus_windows_defs.sql
    @sqlplus_windows_defs.sql
    host &rm sqlplus_windows_defs.cmd
    host &rm sqlplus_windows_defs.sqlthe idea being that you first define the variables for nix ("rm" and "cat"), then attempt to create and execute a Windows command file containing DOS versions ("dele" and "type"), which does not run under nix. Unfortunately the OS failure message (".sqlplus_windows_defs: not found" in Unix) appears on the screen despite SET TERM OFF, so I'm back where I started.
    I know there are various ways to get the server OS, and you can get the SQL*Plus version with &_SQLPLUS_RELEASE and so on, but I can't see a way to determine the client OS. Any suggestions?

    Thanks guys. This seems to work in Windows XP - will try on Unix when I get a chance:
    col DELETE_COMMAND new_value DELETE_COMMAND
    col LIST_COMMAND new_value LIST_COMMAND
    def list_command = TYPE
    def delete_command = DEL
    SELECT DECODE(os,'MSWIN','TYPE','cat') AS list_command
         , DECODE(os,'MSWIN','DEL','rm')   AS delete_command
    FROM   ( SELECT CASE WHEN UPPER(program) LIKE '%.EXE' THEN 'MSWIN' END AS os
             FROM   v$session
             WHERE  audsid = SYS_CONTEXT('userenv','sessionid') );
    host &LIST_COMMAND xplan_errors.lst
    host &DELETE_COMMAND xplan_errors.lstIf the user doesn't have access to v$session it will just default to the Windows commands.

  • ORA-00936 error from SQL expression in SQL*Loader script

    I am getting the above error on the following line in my SQL*Loader script:
    DIA_CLM_RES_OID DECIMAL EXTERNAL
    "SELECT N_ORG_ENTY_ID FROM TESTG4.ORG_ENTITY
    WHERE N_USER_ID =
    (SELECT UNIQUE WSR_NT_ID FROM CONV_CLM_RESOURCE
    WHERE CLM_RES_OID = :DIA_CLM_RES_OID)",
    What I am basically trying to do is a 2-table lookup of a value:
    1. Find a row in table CONV_CLM_RESOURCE where the value in column CLM_RES_OID matches the value in the input file in field DIA_CLM_RES_OID.
    2. Take the value of field WSR_NT_ID from that row and use it to find a row in table TESTG4.ORG_ENTITY.
    3. Take the value of field WSR_NT_ID from that row and set it in the target table in field DIA_CLM_RES_OID.
    In other words, I am essentially trying to translate the input value by using two other tables to lookup the value to translate to. However, no matter how I arrange it, I keep getting the "ORA-00936: missing expression" error on this statement.
    Can anyone see what I am doing wrong, or perhaps suggest a better way of accomplishing a two-table translation of a value?
    Thanks!

    Still not sure why this doesn't work, but I was able to create and use a function to do this instead, which is probably a better approach anyway.

  • INSERT Script stored as "SQL Statement Script" not firing on Oracle Alert

    We are using Alert Manager to run Alerts based on absence information in EBS R12.1.3 HR tables.
    Application: Human Resources
    Period/Event: Periodic
    Frequency: Every Day
    The Alert has 2 actions.
    One is to email a supervisor based on the Alert SQL finding staff who have had x number of absences over a set period of time.
    That is working fine.
    The other action is defined as an "SQL Statement Script".
    The SQL script inserts the variables defined in the SQL from the main Alert definition SQL, into a custom table.
    When the Alert fires, we are getting the email generated, but the INSERT statement isn't firing.
    However, when we look at the result of the Alert when it has run, and look at the steps which were fired, we can see the email step and the SQL step. When we look at the SQL in the SQL step which was generated, we can copy and paste it direct into TOAD and it works fine.
    We have tried a simple SQL INSERT statement which even just does:
    INSERT INTO xx_tmp (VALUE1_DATE, VALUE2) VALUES (SYSDATE, 'this');
    But even that does not work.
    We wonder if the issue is that we cannot do a direct INSERT from an alert type of "SQL Statement Script"?
    We have found another Alert which does a direct UPDATE on a table, but the SQL Statement Script definition has "Purchasing" as the Application, because it's updating a PO table.
    In our case, we're trying to insert into a custom table held in our in-house XX schema.
    Could the problem be that we don't have the "Application" set? If that's the case, we don't have a corresponding application anyway.
    Or can we not do a direct INSERT like this - do we need to use a package instead, and call that?
    Any advice much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Brian,
    Alert issue - Custom SQL fix
    1. Define actions via "Actions" button on Alert Definition
    2. Create an action for e.g. "Send Message to Supervisor"
       Action type: message
       Action - sends email to people
    3. Create another action called e.g. "Insert Record"
       Action type: SQL Statement Script
       Fill in SQL in the "Text" section, no need to add a begin or end bit, just a simple INSERT INTO X etc ending with a semi colon
    4. Back on the main alert definition window, go to "Action Sets" button
       Here, need one SEQ for the Message / Email (e.g. Seq 1), and then click on "Action Set Details" and click on "Members" tab and select the "Send Message to Supervisor" Action
       Then close the "Action Set Details" window, and return to the "Action Sets" window
       click into 2nd line, add e.g. Seq 2, and call it e.g. "Insert Record", click on "Action Set Details" > Members tab and select the "Insert Record" The problem was that in the first instance, we had a single Action Set, and under "Members" had selected the "Send Message to Supervisor" and "Insert Record" at the same time.
    Short answer: each Action needs to be defined as a separate line in the Action Sets definition.
    I can send screenshots if you need them, and don't mind putting your email address on this forum.
    You can always edit the thread after I've emailed you, to remove your email address.

    If you do an explain plan or set autotrace on against this update statement,
    you'll find that the select operations are actually executed first by Oracle
    - I believe because of the nature of the transaction. Thus, no problem.

  • Using SQL Loader script in a Stored Procedure

    Can I use SQL Loader script in a stored procedure and then execute it from a front-end appl.? The reason for this seemingly convoluted solution is that the users don't want a batch load though the records volume is quite high (around 1 mil). Other loads using ODBC connection or OLE DB seem to be inferior to SQL Loader.

    I would suggest a couple of solutions:
    1. Have a cgi script that can upload the file to the server from a web ui, then have the cgi script call the sql*loader file, and it will insert into the database.
    2. You can try to use External tables. This is avaliable in 9i and onwards. You will be able to make any sql DML on the external table.
    I would normally use sql*loader, move the data to a staging table with nologging, and paralle loading. After it has been loaded into the staging table I would process it into my main tables. Have used this approach with up to 60 million records in one load.
    You can do calls to C procedures, Pro*C procedures through PLSQL, as well as java calls, or use Java stored procedures.
    My experience is that SQL*Loader is the fastest way to load data into the database.

  • Quick SAP Script question New Page Print

    Quick SAP Script question
    I have added a new page to an existing SAP Script BUT only want it to print if a condition is true.
    I need to do this from within the form as the print program is SAP Std.
    Any idea how I can prevent the new page from printing?
    i.e. I need the form NOT to call the new page if the condition is false. Is there a way of forcing an exit or stop from with in the form?

    Hi,
    To trigger a new page, there is script ediotr command NEW-PAGE.
    so find where is that command is triggered and use the below code for trigger it on any specific condition....
    if &condition& = 'True'
    /*  NEW-PAGE
    elseif
    /: NEW-PAGE
    endif
    so it means if condition is satisfied your new page will not work.. else it will...
    Hope you got it...
    Try this..
    Best luck..

  • Calling SQL Server Script File in Hypersonic DB

    HI All,
    I am using Hypersonic Database with java swing.
    To update the database, i am getting SQL Server script file through a webservice.
    The problem is i dont have any idea, how i can update Hypersonic Database with the SQL Server script file.
    Please Help.
    Thanks
    Nitin

    Also I think
    CREATE TABLE table1
    ( tableoneid INT PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL
    , name VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL
    , PRIMARY KEY(tableoneid) );should probably be
    CREATE TABLE table1
    ( tableoneid INT CONSTRAINT table1_pk PRIMARY KEY
    , name VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL );otherwise you specify the primary key twice (and PRIMARY KEY implies NOT NULL so the NOT NULL is redundant).
    Then TABLE2 might need to be something like:
    CREATE TABLE table2
    ( tabletwoid INT NOT NULL
    , tableoneid NOT NULL CONSTRAINT table2_table1_fk REFERENCES table1
    , CONSTRAINT table2_pk PRIMARY KEY(tabletwoid, tableoneid) );although the table-level constraint syntax could be used for the foreign keys if it meant less editing of your scripts. The "CONSTRAINT constraintname" clause of constraints is optional but recommended, as otherwise they will get system-generated names like "SYS_C005157". (Note that if you specify the FK inline as part of the column definition you do not need to include a datatype.)
    If the IDENTITY clause causes a sequential value to be assigned as a default, there is no direct equivalent to that in Oracle. The nearest thing would be a row-level BEFORE INSERT trigger.

  • C# application to execute both oracle and sql server script files.

    Hi All,
    I am suppose to develop an application using c# which can execute oracle script files as well as sql server script files based on some user's choice.
    Both the script files(oracle/sql server) contains scripts to create tables, create views and create functions.
    What is the best way to do this and which existing c# functions should is use.
    Thanks in advance.

    I am suppose to develop an application using c# which can execute oracle script files as well as sql server script files based on some user's choice.
    You can use SQL Plus for Oracle. You can have a C# program that issues commands  for  scripts for table, views, triggers  creation and the whole 10 yards to SQL Plus,
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14357/qstart.htm
    https://www.google.com/#q=sql+plus
    I started writing a program to use SQL Plus to run the scripts, but cI ame to the conclusion that it was a waste of my time.
    A tool called OSM, an Oracle, tool gives a list of script files that need to be run do to a change in a script file based on file timestamp. You can copy the list doing a copy/past operation and drop it into SQL Plus's Command line, and SQL Plus runs the
    scripts.
    For MS SQL Server, you have this, which you can run from a C# program too.
    http://www.webfactory-world.de/wfknowledgebase/wfknowledgebase_wf3.3/Content/AdditionalWindowsSettings/Tutorials/UpdatingSQLDBFromCommandLine.htm
    I would consider using the above from a C# program a waste of time too.
    I look at it this way. If the user doesn't have database admin experience and know how to use DB admin tools, then they have no business doing anything with a database - period.
    BTW, the Invoke statement in VB or C# will run SQL Plus or SQL Server command line tool.

    Hi Vishnu,
    According to your description, you want to list all countries, states and cities, right?
    I have tested it on my local environment, here is a sample script for you reference.

  • Using SQL Server Script to create Oracle DB Schema

    Hi,
    I have a SQL Server script which does a few things such as creating databases (after dropping), creating tables etc. Now I want to replicate the SQL Server databases and their tables etc in an Oracle9i DB. How would a SQL Server script compare to an Oracle script? i.e. what differences are there? and how would I have to alter the script to have it work on Oracle?
    As an example, my SQL Server script would look something like this:
    DROP DATABASE test1;
    DROP DATABASE test2;
    CREATE DATABASE test1;
    CREATE DATABASE test2;
    GO;
    USE test1;
    CREATE TABLE Table1 (
    TableOneID INT IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL,
    Name VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL,
    PRIMARY KEY(TableOneID));
    CREATE TABLE Table2 (
    TableTwoID INT IDENTITY NOT NULL,
    TableOneID INT NOT NULL,
    PRIMARY KEY(TableTwoID, TableOneID),
    FOREIGN KEY(TableOneID) REFERENCES Table1(TableOneID));
    USE test2;
    CREATE TABLE ....
    etc...
    thanks!

    Also I think
    CREATE TABLE table1
    ( tableoneid INT PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL
    , name VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL
    , PRIMARY KEY(tableoneid) );should probably be
    CREATE TABLE table1
    ( tableoneid INT CONSTRAINT table1_pk PRIMARY KEY
    , name VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL );otherwise you specify the primary key twice (and PRIMARY KEY implies NOT NULL so the NOT NULL is redundant).
    Then TABLE2 might need to be something like:
    CREATE TABLE table2
    ( tabletwoid INT NOT NULL
    , tableoneid NOT NULL CONSTRAINT table2_table1_fk REFERENCES table1
    , CONSTRAINT table2_pk PRIMARY KEY(tabletwoid, tableoneid) );although the table-level constraint syntax could be used for the foreign keys if it meant less editing of your scripts.
