SQL Loader - Conditional Data Loading
Hello Friends,
I am trying to use SQL Loader to load the following records in to the Emp table (columns being - empno, ename, job, mgr, hiredate, sal, comm, deptno ).
7876,ADAMS,CLERK,7788,"23-MAY-87",1100,,20
7900,JAMES,CLERK,7698,"03-DEC-81",950,,30
7902,FORD,ANALYST,7566,"03-DEC-81",3000,,20
7934,MILLER,CLERK,7782,"23-JAN-82",1300,,10
I want to put a condition that the data should be loaded only when the 5th field in the record (i.e, the Hiredate field) should be greater than "01-JAN-82". So with this condition, the only records to be loaded are the 1st, and the 4th one... the other two records have the hiredates being less than "01-JAN-82".
load data
infile 'c:\mydata.csv'
into table emp1
when .....
fields terminated by "," optionally enclosed by '"'
( empno, ename, job, mgr, hiredate, sal, comm, deptno )
I am unable to put the when condition in the control file above and would be grateful if you kindly can give me some pointer as to how to achieve this.
Thanks and Regards.
Edited by: user645883 on Dec 29, 2008 12:45 AMHello Friends,
Thanks for your replies.
The examples only show the when clauses where we can only use "=" or "<>" in the clause. I am trying to see if we can use ">=" or "<=" in the when clause to load the conditional data. Also trying to find out if date fields can be compared in the when clause. I am unable to do so till now and it throws syntax errors everytime
I am able to test the when with string literals and with "=" and "<>" conditions though.
Please help.
Thanks & Regards. -

SQL*Loader-524 using sqlldr
I am getting the following error while running sqlldr80 on 8.0.6.3.1 version.
SQL*Loader-524: partial record found at end of datafile
I followed metalink note 1058890.6 that tells about the bug 735710.
The problem gets resolved when I give a line feed end of datafile.
My problem is the whole system has to be automated where I cannot manually provide a new line in datafile that is automatically placed in a directory from where sqlldr reads it.
Please advice. You can simply process the file by sed on Unix (on Windows you can implement cygwin to add Unix functionality) or by Perl (works on both Windows and Unix) to add that extra linefeed automatically.
Which obviously is a workaround. You would better upgrade from Oracle 8.0.6, which was desupported many, many years ago.

Trouble with a If conditional using string methods.
Hello Everyone,
I am having trouble with an If statement. I want to compare a string variable to two values using the or operator. I have found the || may not be applied to string.equals. Would neone happen to have a different method? Code below:
check = ("C".equals(option)) || ("F".Equals(option));jverd wrote:
Please paste in the exact, complete error message.
One thing that's definitely wrong is the capital E in your second Equals. I don't know if that's causing the problem though. Also note that, once you get it to compile, if you don't remove the semicolon after the if statement, you won't get the behavior you want. -
SQL*Loader and using nulls, truncate and sysdate.
Good afternoon,
I have a control file some of which is below which I need to use to load a CSV file. What I want to know is; how do I truncate fields which are too long and if there is no date specified how do I insert the sysdate as default. For any other fields missing data I want to insert a NULL value, I think that I have the NULL bit sorted.
LOAD DATA
INFILE new_employee.csv
INTO TABLE temp_emp
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
TRAILING NULLCOLS
EMP_NO
LAST_NAME
FIRST_NAME
TITLE
ADD1
PCODE
HOME_TEL
DATE
)The table I am inserting too is described below
Name Null? Type
EMP_NO NUMBER
LAST_NAME VARCHAR2(20)
FIRST_NAME VARCHAR2(20)
TITLE VARCHAR2(15)
ADD1 VARCHAR2(35)
PCODE VARCHAR2(10)
HOME_TEL VARCHAR2(20)
DATE_STARTED DATECan anyone show me where I put truncate etc in my file and does TRAILING NULL COLS actually insert null when no data is present?
CheersHi,
Thanks for the info.
I have the SEQUENCE SORTED and I believe that TRAILLING NULLCOLLS works fine too but I cannot seem to seem to find away to insert SYSDATE when no date exists in the flat file. Also, I cannot work out how to trim down the information if its too long for the column I want to insert too.
My CTL file again is like this
LOAD DATA
INFILE new_employees.csv
INTO TABLE temp_emp
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ","
TRAILING NULLCOLS
EMP_NO SEQUENCE(MAX, 1),
LAST_NAME,
FIRST_NAME,
TITLE,
ADD1,
PCODE, -- some pcodes are too long how can I trim them here?
HOME_TEL,
DATE_STARTED -- What can I put here to say if NULL then use SYSDATE
)I did read the info and learned sequence easy enough but I couldn't find an answer to these last to questions.
Cheers

Hi,
When I load a flat file with SQL*Loader (V 8.1.7 on Windows), I get output something like,
Commit point reached - logical record count 2352
Commit point reached - logical record count 2364
Commit point reached - logical record count 2376
Commit point reached - logical record count 2388
Commit point reached - logical record count 2400
If I want to change this, say I want this message for each 1000 records inserted, how can I do that?
I have tried options line bindsize or rows, but looks like they are for changing internal operation, but not this screen output.
Off course, I am talking about conventional path load.
Any ideas?
Thanksset rows=1000 and increase the bindsize drastically.
From the docs here
If that size fits within the bind array maximum, the load continues--SQL*Loader does not try to expand the number of rows to reach the maximum bind array size. If the number of rows and the maximum bind array size are both specified, SQL*Loader always uses the smaller value for the bind array. -

SQL Loader and foreign characters in the data file problem
Hello,
I have run into an issue which I can't find an answer for. When I run SQL Loader, one of my control files is used to get file content (LOBFILE) and one of the fields in the data file has a path to that file. The control file looks like:
LOAD DATA
INFILE 'PLACE_HOLDER.dat'
INTO TABLE iceberg.rpt_document_core APPEND
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
doc_core_id "iceberg.seq_rpt_document_core.nextval",
-- created_date POSITION(1) date "yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss",
created_date date "yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss",
document_size,
hash,
body_format,
is_generic_doc,
is_legacy_doc,
external_filename FILLER char(275) ENCLOSED by '"',
body LOBFILE(external_filename) terminated by EOF
A sample data file looks like:
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,21,BB51344DD2127002118E286A197ECD4A,text,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\شیمیایی.txt"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,17,CF85BE76B1E20704180534E19D363CF8,text,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\ลอบวางระเบิด.txt"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,23552,47DB382558D69F170227AA18179FD0F0,binary,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\leesburgis_á_ñ_é_í_ó_ú_¿_¡_ü_99.doc"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,17,83FCA0377445B60CE422DE8994900A79,binary,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\làm thế nào bạn làm ngày hôm nay"
The problem is that whan I run this, SQL Loader throws an error that it can't find the file. It appears that it can't interpret the foreign characters in a way that allows it to find that path. I have tried adding a CHARACTERSET (using AL32UTF8 or UTF8) value in the control file but that only has some success with Western languages, not the ones listed above. Also, there is no set of defined languages that could be found in the data file. It essentaially could be any language.
Does anyone know if there is a way to somehow get SQL Loader to "understand" the file system paths when a folder and/or file name could be in some other langauge?
Thanks for any thoughts - PeterThanks for the reply Harry. If I try to open the file in various text editors like Wordpad, Notepad, GVIM, andTextpad, they all display the foreign characters differently. Only Notepad comes close to displaying the characters properly. I have a C# app that will read the file and display the contents and it renders it fine. If you look at the directory of files in Windows Explorer, they all are displayed properly. So it seems things like .Net and Windows have some mechanism to understand the characters in order to render them properly. Other applications, again like Wordpad, do not know how to render them properly. It would seem that whatever SQL Loader is using to "read" the data files also is not rendering the characters properly which prevents it from finding the directory path to the file. If I add "CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8" in the control file, all is fine when dealing with Western langauges (ex, German, Spanish) but not for the Eastern languages (ex. Thai, Chinese). So .... telling SQL Loader to use a characterset seems to work, but not in all cases. The AL32UTF8 is the characterset that the Oracle database was created with. I have not had any luck if I try to set the CHARACTERSET to whatever the Thai character set is, for example. There problem there though is that even if that did work, I can't target specific lagauages because the data could come from anywhere. It's like I need some sort of global "super set" characterset to use. It seems like the CHARACTERSET is the right track to follow but I am not sure, and even if it is, is there a way to handle all languages.
Thanks - Peter -

The above is my control file
The file I am trying to load is a bmp file of size 811254 bytes
unfortunately the size is larger than 64 K hence I have to concatenate it
It cannot be broken into equal pieces
hence I decided to break it into size 50000 bytes each and tried to load 17 pieces and concatenate it as suggested by
metalink
However it does not work
The error message I get is as follows
SQL*Loader-501: Unable to read file (1377.bmp)
SQL*Loader-566: partial record found at end of datafile
SQL*Loader-2026: the load was aborted because SQL Loader cannot continue.

SQL Loader Excel Sheet Work book Issue!
Hi Everyone:
How can my Excel Sheet convert into CSV or whatever format where I can able to load data into oracle.
Rigth now I do copy and paste from excel sheet into notepad.
Please reply me at your earliest convenience.
Regards,
ZeeshanIf you have seperate sheets in your workbook then you're going to have to save each one out as a seperate CSV file and load each one into Oracle either using SQL*Loader or using External Tables (this latter will require that the files are located on the database server).
Or...
You could set up an ODBC connection to your Excel workbook and, provided your data is is a suitably table type style and your database is running on a windows server, you will be able to set up an external database connection to the Excel workbook and query each sheet as a table e.g.:
1- Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Data Sources (ODBC)>System DSN and create a data source with appropriate driver. Name it EXCL.
2- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Tnsnames.ora fie add entry:
EXCL =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.12.0.24)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = EXCL)
(HS = OK)
Here SID is the name of data source that you have just created.
3- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Listener.ora file add:
(SID_DESC =
(PROGRAM = hsodbc)
(SID_NAME = <hs_sid>)
(ORACLE_HOME = <oracle home>)
under SID_LIST_LISTENER like:
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = d:\ORA9DB)
(PROGRAM = extproc)
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = ORA9DB)
(ORACLE_HOME = d:\ORA9DB)
(SID_NAME = ORA9DB)
(SID_DESC =
(PROGRAM = hsodbc)
(SID_NAME = EXCL)
(ORACLE_HOME = D:\ora9db)
Dont forget to reload the listener
c:\> lsnrctl reload
4- In %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin create init<HS_SID>.ora. For our sid EXCL we create file initexcl.ora.
In this file set following two parameters:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = excl
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
5- Now connect to Oracle database and create database link with following command:
SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK excl
2 USING 'excl'
3 /
Database link created.
Now you can perform query against this database like you would for any remote database.
SQL> SELECT table_name FROM all_tables@excl;
