SQL/MM Full Text

hello all,
I want more informations about SQL/MM Full Text for Oracle Text. i dont find the package witch implemente this standard.
thanks

Fatima,
I'm not finding any direct reference to SQL/MM Part 2 Full Text in anything that I have either, but you can do full text searches with Oracle Text. On a quick look through the standard I really don't see much that cannot be done with Oracle Text, though its method of implementation might differ from what you are expecting (I don't know that - just an assumption based on your question).
Please specify your requirement here and we can tell you if it can be done or not and point you to the docs that discuss the implementation.
Thanks,
Ron

How to Use Lucene.NET with Windows Azure SQL Database
    QUOTE: "Summary
Lucene.NET is a .NET implementation of the Lucene full-text search engine. This article describes how you can use Lucene.NET to index text data stored in Windows Azure SQL Database, and then perform searches against that data.
NOTE: This does not provide an integrated full-text search experience like the full-text search in SQL Server. Lucene.NET is an external process that is queried separately from SQL Database.
NOTE: This article relies on the Azure Library for Lucene.NET (https://azuredirectory.codeplex.com/
) to store the Lucene.NET catalog in
    a Windows Azure storage blob.

  • SQL 2008 Full Text CONTAINSTABLE is VERY SLOW

    Hello,
    I am running SQL Server 2008 SP3.
I know I am not the only to have SQL Server CONTAINSTABLE query performances issues. However I think mine is very strange because it appears that the SAME IDENTICAL query produces completely different execution plans on two different sessions against
    the same SQL Server/database.
    This is the query:
    select * from CONTAINSTABLE (TABChiamate,[Domanda],N'"dn"', 20)
My full text index has been completely rebuilt and it contains 1 million of rows.
What is strange about this query is that on the session where it works fine it runs in a fraction of a second, whereas on another session it's REALLY slow - taking 20/30 seconds to run (or minutes, depending on the top_n parameter).
Looking at the execution plans I see that the slow one is doing a TABLE/LAZY SPOOL on 741.000 rows, which making both CPUs of the server spin to 100% for the execution time (20/30 seconds). Obviously this is unacceptable since we have about one hundred of
users that could perform the same query in the same minute and I can't have 100 cores to complete the operation right?
However, I am not able to understand why this issue is strictly related to the Session... new sessions are running fine...
Anyone could help trying to figure out what to look for to explain this strange behavior? I tried to see all SET options to understand if they are different ... now my question is ... is it possible that execution plans are cached in a per-session basis?
    Thank you in advance!
    Adriano

Hi RFL, thank you for your reply! I try to answer your questions below.
Adriano,  A few comments and questions.
    1. What build level of SQL Server 2008 are you running?
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP3) - 10.0.5500.0 (X64)   Sep 21 2011 22:45:45   Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation  Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (VM)
    2. Your example query is apparently not identical to the two plans in the screen shots.  Could you share two runs of the restricted query?
I just retried the same today and it appears to work correctly... however the main issue is that I am sure I'll face the issue in the next weeks as soon as the full text index will need a rebuild ... :-(
    3. How many rows do the unlimited searches return?
    127 rows.
    4. Is the first query in the set always the slow one?  Or, if you switch them around does slow query remain the same?
If you look at the execution plans above, the executed query is the same on 2 connections. I copied/pasted the same query, and on the first query window it was REALLY slow, putting both CPUs at 98% for many seconds/near a minute.
There was a bug reported here with optimization, SQL Server 2008, and Containstable.  I cannot tell if the problem is identical to yours, but if you have not updated SQL Server 2008 since mid-2009 you might check for the fix to the following problem:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/003bb682-a7d2-489d-ad0f-123a8206b663/fulltext-search-containstable-near-broken-in-sql-server-2008?forum=transactsql
I've seen, but it seems not my case (I've SP3 and still having issues).
This morning I've seen that the query analyzer window got the connection broken, and I needed to reconnect. After reconnecting the same query window, the query went fast... but I am not able to understand WHY, it looks like the "bad plan"
was cached on the actual connection/process for some reason, and after a timeout it has been recalculated on the rebuilt full-text index... and actually now it works... but I am sure the issue will come back again in some days/week...

  • Service Accounts for Browser Services and FD Launcher (Full-text Search)

I am setting up SQL Failover Clustering (Version: 2012SP1) on Windows 2012. There are 2 options to configure the service account for Browser Services and FD Launcher :
Option 1) Using separate domain accounts, as what I have done for DB Engine and SQL Agent.
Option 2) accept the default, which is  local service for
    browser, and virtual account for
FD Launcher. Per documentation URL: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx
which is the recommended one? is it option 2?
There is security note on above URL as well, but does not clearly mention that option 1 is not recommended.
Security Note:  Always run SQL Server services by using the lowest possible user rights. Use a
    MSA or
virtual account when possible. When MSA and virtual accounts are not possible, use a specific low-privilege user account or domain account instead of a shared account for SQL Server services. Use separate accounts for different SQL Server services. Do not
grant additional permissions to the SQL Server service account or the service groups. Permissions will be granted through group membership or granted directly to a service SID, where a service SID is supported.

    Hi Luo Donghua,
In SQL Server Brower, the default logon account is NT Authority\Local service and cannot be changed during SQL Server setup.SQL Server Browser is not a clustered resource and does
not support failover from one cluster node to the other. SQL Server Browser should be installed and
turned on for each node of the cluster. SQL Server Browser should be run in the security context of a low privileged user to minimize exposure to a malicious attack.
You can change the account after the setup has been completed; For more information, see:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh510203.aspx.
In SQL Server full text filter daemon launcher, on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, the FDHOST Launcher service account also defaults to LOCAL SERVICE. If you provide a domain account in which to run the FDHOST Launcher service, we highly recommend
that you use a low privilege account. On Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008R2 , we use Virtual Account or Managed Service account(MSA) in FD Launcher . We also need to note the account you used for
FD Launcher should be different from the account that you use for the SQL Server service. For more information, see:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281953(v=sql.100).aspx
So I recommend you use the option 2 to configure the service account for Browser Services and FD Launcher.

  • Express 2014 with Advanced Services, can't create Full Text Index, no service running

I can't confirm that Full-text service is running or installed. There is no sql server full text search [instance] running as a service on the machine. I thought this would be installed with advanced services? I installed all options when installing express
edition 2014. But it's not there. When I run
    select fulltextserviceproperty('isfulltextinstalled')
I get a '0' which according to other posts means that it is not installed. I installed Sql Server Advanced Services 2014 with all tools checked. And in Sql Server Configuration Manager I see the service 'Sql Full Text Filter Daemon Launcher' and it is running.
Is there another service called  'sql server full text search' that should be in serives.  How do I install full text
search for Sql Server Express 2014 With Advanced Services or install the service so that I can run full text search? Please help !
    When running this command
    CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG GftExGiftFTCat;
    I get the message:
Cannot use full-text search in user instance.
    chuckdawit

    Hi chuckdawit,
Could you please verify that if you connect to the correct SQL Server instance?
Based on my test, the error “Cannot use full-text search in user instance” could occur when connecting to the LocalDB as LocalDB does not support the Full-Text feature. To  use the Full –Text feature in SQL Server Express, please ensure that you connect
to the instance with connection string “ ServerName\SQLEXPRESS”.

  • Is a Full Text Index search case sensitive or not in SQL Server 2012?

I setup full text index on my contact table and am attempting to run a search on it using the following query:
    SELECT *
    FROM sysdba.Contact C
    WHERE CONTAINS(C.FirstName, 'Test')
    OR CONTAINS(C.LastName, 'Test')
The problem is it's clearly running a case sensitive search. I did a quick search to find out how to change it to be case in-sensitive and found two pages (both for SQL Server 2012) with conflicting answers:
    1 - MSDN - "Query with Full-Text Search" - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms142583(v=sql.110).aspx
    Case sensitivity
Full-text search queries are case-insensitive. However, in Japanese, there are multiple phonetic orthographies in which the concept of orthographic normalization is akin to case insensitivity (for example, kana = insensitivity). This type of orthographic normalization
    is not supported.
    1 - TechNet - "Full-Text Search (SQL Server)" - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms142571(v=sql.110).aspx
    Full-text queries are
not case-sensitive. For example, searching for "Aluminum" or "aluminum" returns the same results.
Can someone please explain this? Is it possible to do it without it being case sensitive? If yes, how?
(Sorry, I couldn't make those links b/c TechNet hasn't verified my account)
Thank you for your time and help,
    Hanan

Whats the collation setting for the columns? try using a case insensitive collation as below
    SELECT *
    FROM sysdba.Contact C
    WHERE CONTAINS(C.FirstName COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, 'Test')
    OR CONTAINS(C.LastName COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, 'Test')

    Hi,
We are in the process of storing PDF files in SQL Server 2012 with Full-Text search capability.
I followed the steps as below and it works fine with word document but not for PDF files. I tried with PDF ifiler 11 & 9 and both are unsuccessful.
    Server/DB Level Settings:
    1)
    Enable FileStream
    2)
    Install Full-Text
    then restart

  • Sql Server 2012:Full Text Catalog taking up all the disk space

We have created full text catalog and index for a pretty large table. The column on which the index is being created has a datatype of varchar(max). The problem started as soon as we started populating the catalog. It almost grew to 835GB and Population
status stuck to "Processing Notification". I think is status code 9 which corresponds with
the "Change tracking" status in the SQL. It gets stuck in this status almost for ever.
Is there a way to deal with this huge catalog size, may be shrink it or move it to a different location.
Is switching off Change Tracking going to improve the situation.
Any help regarding this will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Saikat

    Hello,
There could be considerable amount of indexes on that catalog and the effect of the merge over them. Try the index size property of
    the following function:

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition and Full Text Indexing

Hello, we have recently upgraded our web front end server from SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition) to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition (in conjuction with upgrading our main production servers to SQL 2008 R2 Standard). We have 12 Databases on our production
SQL Server that are replicated to our web frontend server to the SQL Express instance. One of these databases has a FULL TEXT INDEX. The production database is running the Adobe iFilter version 9 64Bit. The FULL TEXT CATALOG has been created and populated
and performs searches as intended. However, upon replication, when using the search option on our web page based on that PDF iFilter, it no longer works. After examining the properties of the FULL TEXT CATALOG, we note that the Catalog size on the subscriber
end is 0MB in size (whereas it is 3MB on the Publication side). Also the Unique Key Count on the subscriber side is '1' whereas on the publisher side it is 30,000+. After examining the FT Indexing logs on the subscriber side shows an error: "Warning: No appropriate
filter was found during full-text index population" On the subscriber side which is running Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition, Adobe Reader 10.1.1 is installed (all 32Bit) with the Adobe iFilter AcroRdIF.dll. When running the SELECT
    * from sys.fulltext_document_types T-Sql statement, the list returned shows the PDF filter to be installed and shows the correct path. Under the System Environment Variables, that path has also been installed (from previous recommendations in researching this
problem). After numerous reboots, service restarts and re-attempts to get the FT Daemon to crawl - no success. Can anyone please help with this problem? Is there something I am missing? In an attempt to work around this problem thinking there might be a version
conflict between the 64Bit version on the publisher and the 32Bit version on the subscriber, I disabled the replication of the FULL TEXT CATALOG and tried to create a new catalog on the subscriber with the same results. Thank you for your answers in advance
    - Fustrated! Sorry, somehow this got posted originally under Server Design

Hello Jeff hope your still out there.  I wrote this question 2 years ago and upgraded to SQL Express with advanced services.  Full Text replication worked until last week.  We are operating in a virtual environment.  My publisher box
is a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit) with SQL Server Standard Edition.  My Web front subscriber is a Windows 2003 R2 (32bit) Server with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1 with Advanced Services. Now the exact same thing is happening after 2+ years.
We are looking for possible updates that might have broken this but I am stretching that.  Any clues please?  32bit vs. 64bit?

Unable to get the SQL Server 2008 R2 to index PDF files for full-text searching.
    Environment: Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise 64-bit, SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP3 64-bit, Adobe Reader 11.x

Added its folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PDF iFilter 11 for 64-bit platforms\bin\;) to the PC system Path variable. Rebooted PC.
Confirmed SQL Server sees the Adobe PDF iFilter ..... SELECT * from sys.fulltext_document_types where document_type = '.pdf'
Inserted PDF files to my table (see below for CREATE statement).
The SQLFT log says  ... Warning: No appropriate filter was found during full-text index population for table or indexed view '[TestDB].[dbo].[pdfifiltertable]' (table or indexed view ID '2105058535', database ID '7'), full-text key value '1'.

  • Full Text Search in PDF file Not Working in SQL Server 2012

OS: Windows Server 2012 @ Azure
DB: SQL Server 2012 SP 1 with Cum Update 6
Filter: OfficeFilter installed, PDFFilter64 11 installed (actually I tried 9 too)
I have done the following steps:-
    1. Configure SQL Server Instance to enable FILESTREAM for Transaction-SQL Access (IO Access and Allow Remote Client Access to FileStream data) and restart the instance service.
    2. Set Stream Access Level to Full Access and
    3. Create Database with file stream folder and set the created database Properties.Options: FileStreamDirectorName = fileContainer and FileStream Non-Transaction Access = Full.
    4. Create a FileTable with file director
    5. Execute the following scripts to ensure all installed components working. PDF is listed as one of the supported filter.
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service @action='load_os_resources', @value=1;
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0 -- don't verify signatures
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'update_languages'; -- update language list
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'restart_all_fdhosts';
    EXEC sp_help_fulltext_system_components 'filter'
    reconfigure with override
    6. Copy a few PPTX, DOCX, PDF file into the file director.
    7. Search the data by following command. I can PPTX and DOCX files can return right result but PDF is not returned although it contains the searching contents.
    SELECT *
    FROM dbo.Course
    WHERE CONTAINS(file_stream, 'Counsellor');

Are you seeing any errors in the SQL Server Error Log, the Windows Application or System logs?  How about in the Full-text crawl logging?
Troubleshooting Errors in a Full-Text Population (Crawl)
If your server has a mix of multi-threaded iFilters and single-threaded iFilters, this can cause serious problems with building the full text index.  (How do I know this?  Well, let's just say that I have suffered as well. And I was shocked!)
The efficiency was greatly increased by this article:
Troubleshooting: Slow Full-Text Indexing Performance Due to Filtering Process
This means changing the threading model for the multi-threaded (e.g. Microsoft Office) filters to be Apartment Threaded.  Or perhaps if you are full text indexing PDF files, abandoning the free single-threaded Adobe IFilter and purchasing the FoxIt
(or some other) multi-threaded PDF iFilter would benefit you.

    Hello,
If you see error descriptioon it gives access denied so basically it is because of some access issue.I guess You must be using some domin account for installation make sure it is  added as local administrator also instead of using NT Authority network
service  as SQL server service account use local system account .
    Below link would help
    http://serverfault.com/questions/212135/access-is-denied-error-installing-sql-server-2008-on-windows-7
You can also browse to setup.exe file and RK on it and select run as administrator

  • Full-text search not available after upgrade from SQL 2008 R2 Std to SQL 2012 Std

We upgraded our production SQL Server from 2008 R2 Std to 2012 Std last week, and the installation logs show everything was successful, but now we are unable to do any searches against our full-text indexes.  The resulting error is as follows:
"Full-Text Search is not installed, or a full-text component cannot be loaded."
When executing the query "SELECT FULLTEXTSERVICEPROPERTY('ISFULLTEXTINSTALLED')", the result is "0".  The "Full-Text Daemon Launcher service is also running.  When running installation again to add the feature, it shows
"Full-Text and Semantic Extractions for Search" as being installed and unavailable for selection in the list of features to add.  As a side note, we did the same upgrade in our identical QA environment before production and everything was successful
and full-text searches are working correctly.  We have run the "Repair" routine in the SQL Installation Center and it did not correct the problem.
The full-text catalogs still appear when browsing through the GUI in SSMS or querying sys.fulltext_indexes and sys.fulltext_index_columns.  It is not possible to view the properties of the catalog in SSMS, though, as the GUI throws an error and an empty
dialog box is shown.  Any other thoughts?
    Thanks,
    AJ

I have no idea what is going, but assuming that it is a little pressing to get this fix, I think the best path in this case is to open a case with Microsoft.

  • Installing Full-Text Search in SQL Server 2008 Standard

    Hello,
We have a SQL Server 2008 Standard server, and I need to install full-text search in order to take advantage of some features with Autodesk Vault.  I believe that I understand the procedure to do so, but, does the installation of the setup tools
and full-text search component cause any interruption to the database instances (or require a reboot)?
    Thanks

    Hi Indiana Grumpycooter,
Full text search feature is supported by the SQL Server 2008 standard version, so you can install this feature in
installation page of the SQL Server Installation Wizard. There is an similar example about adding SQL Full-Text Search to an existing SQL Server, you can review the following steps.http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/data-center/adding-sql-full-text-search-to-an-existing-sql-server/
In addition, you can also install this feature via command line as follows. For more information, see:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259(v=sql.100).aspx
    Setup.exe /q /ACTION=Install /FEATURES= Full-Text /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /SQLSVCACCOUNT="<DomainName\UserName>" /SQLSVCPASSWORD="<StrongPassword>" /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS
As other post, it will not cause interruption, and you require a reboot after installing Full-Text feature.
