SQl*Modeler - foreign key amendment error

SQl*Modeler 2.0.0 Build 584 (Windows)
Oracle 10.2.0.4 Solaris
If I change an existing foreign key to simply change the delete rule (from say CASCADE to RESTRICT) it changes in memory just fine. If I generate the DDL the change has happened and I get the expected DDL.
However, I then save the model, exit SQL*Modeler, start SQL*Modeler and check the foreign key the change has been lost.
I can workaround this by changing the name of the foreign key and the change is saved correctly. Feature ?
Ian

Hi Ian,
I logged bug for that.
You can use foreign key dialog to do that change without need to change the name - just double-click on FK line or presentation in the browser.

  • Failed to set security on SQL Server registry key. Error: 2

    Hi,
    I have a Primary site (mixed mode) running SCCM 2007 SP1 for many months now with no issues.
    This site is made up of two Win 2008 sp2 servers sharing the SCCM roles:-
    SCCM01 - Site server, DP, RP, PXE and SQL2005 hosting the SCCM database
    SCCM02 – SUP, MP, FSP, SLP
    The SQL2005 on SCCM01 is running under a domain service account called
    domain\service_sccm which is also a sysadmin in SQL as is the SCCM02 server.
    In an effort to resolve the isse I have made this account a Domain Admin.
    I have also used this account to log onto SEC01 to run the Secondary Site installation and to be the SQL Service account.
    I'm now trying to add a Secondary Site on a Domain Controller called SEC01 (also Win2008 sp2) and on the same LAN as the SCCM01/02.
    This is where I get problems.
    I run the installation locally on the Sec Site server (DC) as a Domain Admin and the installation completes OK (all green ticks),
    the ComponentSetup.log and Pre-Reqs are all good as well however when I check the ConfigMgrSetup.log I see the below -
    Failed to set security on SQL Server registry key. Error: 2.
    <11-09-2010 22:46:59> SMS Setup full version is 4.00.6221.1000

    Adding the PMP role to SEC01 also fails to install and no MPSetup or MPControl logs are created.
    WebDav and win2008 roles, features all added and server fully patched.
    Despooler.log on SCCM01 seems good and passing keys.
    Tried installing to default path and to shortened path such as C:\SCCM
    The new secondary site is listed in the console and an address can be added for the Secondary Site
    BITS Server Extensions and Remote Differential Compression Features are enabled.
    The Group memberships all appear ok:-
    SCCM01
    Local Admins
    contains the sec site server SEC01, SCCM01, installation accounts
    SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_001
    SEC01 (the sec site server)
    SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_001
    SCCM02
    SEC01
    No Local Admins as a DC
    SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_002
    SCCM01
    SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_002
    empty
    SQL 2005
    This has the account logged in during installation as a sysadmin
    SCCM02 is also sysadmin
    The fundamental issue appears to be that the SEC01$ server account is not being added to SQL Logins (and therefore SCCM database Roles)
    therefore the installation cannot complete.
    I have tried to manually add the SEC01 account to SQL Logins before installation of Sec Site but this did not work.
    Not sure if the fact that SEC01 is a DC may be a factor.
    Appreciate any help if anyone has seen this before or can suggest a resolution.
    Thanks

    After a lot of digging around and head scratching I eventually found the resolution.
    The original thread title Error turned out to be a bit of a red herring in that my failure to deploy Sec Sites came down to two separate issues seemingly unrelated to the error message of the thread title.
    The first part of the resolution was to manually create the SQL Server accounts for the Sec Site Servers and assign them to the smsdbrole_MP DB role to
    let the SQL side of the SCCM install complete a s these were not being created automatically.
    This then left the fact that that the installation of the Sec Site completed successfully according to the install logs in C:\ however the DP and MP would
    never install.
    The big clue was eventually contained in the mpfdm.log errors relating to
    **ERROR: Cannot find path for destination inbox SMS_AMT_PROXY_COMPONENT on server REGISTRY SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER
    and
    **ERROR: Cannot find path for destination inbox Asset Intelligence KB Manager on server REGISTRY SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER
    Thankfully the errors led me to these two blogs:
    http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/scassells/archive/2009/07/20/error-cannot-find-path-for-destination-inbox-sms-amt-proxy-component-on-server-registry.aspx
    and
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/thread/5fcc53d4-8629-4b34-9eaa-6cb020eedc13/
    As it turned out the SCCM installation registry and folder creation does not complete and I had to manually enter the reg settings as detailed in the
    links above to complete the installation. Once I did as described everything worked a treat – all my MPs and DPs are 100% now.

  • BC4J models foreign key associations as 1-to-1 instead of 1-to-many

    I've been using JDeveloper to generate a BC4J layer against a schema for several months as the schema has evolved. It has always modeled foreign key associations as 1-to-many, but now it is suddenly modeling foreign keys as 1-to-1, which is nonsense. A lot of other associations are also wrong.
    This happened to a schema that we've been using JDeveloper/BC4J on for months with no such problems as the schema has evolved. The database has changed slightly, but there was no change made to the particular constraints that are now modeled incorrectly.
    If I point JDeveloper to an older version of the same schema it generates the correct 1-to-many relationship. Something in the latest schema must be throwing JDeveloper/BC4J off.
    What do I have our data modelers look for in this case?
    Why would BC4J ever model a foreign key association as 1-to-1?

  • SQL Developer Data Modeling: Foreign key checkbox

    Foreign key checkbox is disabled on all my attributes on every entities.
    I'm talking about logical model. How can I make an attribute that will be a foreign key?

    Hello,
    no chance for that. Foreign key attributes are created/removed automatically when attributes are added/removed to related primary key (identifier). We are criticized for having them at all.
    There is an option related to their names in Tools>General Options>Model>Logical.

  • LINQ to SQL - UPDATE Foreign Key

    Hi,
    I'm doing a project with LINQ to SQL. I'm mapping the database in code.
    I have 2 tables: Cargo(CodCargo PK, Cargo)
                            Utilizador(CodUtilizador PK, Utilizador, CodCargo FK.
    Cargo:
     1 - Client
     2 - Provider
     3 - Administrator
    Utilizador:
     1 - User1 - 2
     2 - User2 - 3
    Code in Class Utilizador:
    private EntityRef<Cargo> _Cargo = new EntityRef<Cargo>();
    [Association(IsForeignKey = true, Storage = "_Cargo", ThisKey = "CodCargo")]
    public Cargo Cargo
    get { return this._Cargo.Entity; }
    set
    Cargo oldCargo = _Cargo.Entity;
    Cargo newCargo = value;
    if (newCargo != oldCargo)
    _Cargo.Entity = null;
    if (oldCargo != null)
    oldCargo.Utilizador.Remove(this);
    _Cargo.Entity = newCargo;
    if (newCargo != null)
    newCargo.Utilizador.Add(this);
    The problem is when I change for example in User1 this: User1.Cargo.Cargo = "Client"; Table "Cargo" change to this:
     1 - Client
     2 - Client
     3 - Administrator
    It shouldn't change, only the CodCargo on Utilizador should change.
    How can I solve this without change Cargo , only updating the CodCargo on Utilizador if the field exists or create a new Cargo if don't.
    Best regards,
    ADAE.

    Hello,
    >>//Is is possible to do this:newUser.Cargo.Cargo = "Client"
    This is not changed the foreign key constraint, it only performs what you see: change the
     2 – Provider to  1 – Client, this is not controlled by Entity Framework, it is a rule of database. It is called foreign key constraint:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175464%28v=sql.105%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396, since the Entity Framework is an ORM framework, it will follow this rule.
    My suggestion is that you could do what I provide, to set it foreign key property.

  • Data Modeler foreign key names

    Hi,
    I've been using Data modeller for a while now and it works beautifully, anyhow there is an issue I would appreciate if anybody can help me in.
    For foreign keys, if the master table primary key is names ID, the foriegn key will be ID also, and if already there is an ID column column in the detail table, it will be ID1, ID2 ....
    Can I change the naming method to be like the oracle designer, or any convention I would like ??
    Thanks
    AK

    I'm using the Logical Model V 1.5.1Paul,
    it's pre-production release. Data Modeler is free now and you can download current published release - it.s version 2.0.0.584.
    There is "Attributes" page in relationship dialog (version 2.0) and you can see attributes generated by that relationship.
    For foreign keys in relational model - there is "Associated columns" page, you also can see referred key there.
    Naming templates for FK columns and attributes can be defined in version 2.0.0.584.

  • How to alter or add foreign key constr to table having child rows or data

    Hi,
    I have a table by name DEPT in which the column DEPTNO is a primary key column and have data in it for all the columns . Now I have a EMP table where in the column DEPTNO is not having any constraint including foreign key constraint too. Now i have data in the EMP table for all the columns . now i would like to add the foreign key constraint to DEPTNO column in the EMP table referencing the DEPTNO column in the DEPT table. Both the table do not have any null values .
    I need to add the foreign key without deleting the data in the EMP table.
    Please advice.
    Regards,
    Vinesh

    Hi,
    I need to add the foreign key without deleting the data in the EMP table.Foreign key constraint can have only those values which are present in the primary key of the parent table or null.
    When your tables are populated with values and then you are adding the constraint then,
    the parent table data is only present in child table or null values.
    Example
    SQL> create table emp_bkp as select * from emp;
    Table created.
    SQL> create table dept_bkp as select * from dept;
    Table created.
    SQL> alter table dept_bkp
      2  add constraint pk_deptno primary key(deptno);
    Table altered.
    SQL> select distinct deptno from emp_bkp;
        DEPTNO
            30
            20
            40
            10
    SQL> select deptno from dept_bkp;
        DEPTNO
            10
            20
            30
            40
            55
    SQL>  alter table emp_bkp
      2   add constraint fk_deptno_bkp foreign key(deptno)
      3    references dept_bkp(deptno);
    Table altered.
    SQL> alter table emp_bkp
      2  drop constraint fk_deptno_bkp;
    Table altered.
    SQL> insert into emp_bkp(empno,ename,deptno) values(142,'Fenny',90);
    1 row created.
    SQL> alter table emp_bkp
      2  add constraint fk_deptno_bkp foreign key(deptno)
      3   references dept_bkp(deptno);
    add constraint fk_deptno_bkp foreign key(deptno)
    ERROR at line 2:

    SQL> update emp_bkp

    SQL> alter table emp_bkp

  • Does a foreign key have to be a primary key

    Hey all.I was checking on the database code written by sambapos.To my surprise, I found a foreign key that is not a primary key anywhere.
    Is that possible?
    If, so why?
    I am really astonished.

    Limitations and Restrictions
    A foreign key constraint does not have to be linked only to a primary key constraint in another table; it can also be defined to reference the columns of a UNIQUE constraint in another table.
    When a value other than NULL is entered into the column of a FOREIGN KEY constraint, the value must exist in the referenced column; otherwise, a foreign key violation error message is returned. To make sure that all values of a composite foreign key constraint
    are verified, specify NOT NULL on all the participating columns.
    FOREIGN KEY constraints can reference only tables within the same database on the same server. Cross-database referential integrity must be implemented through triggers. For more information, see
    CREATE TRIGGER (Transact-SQL).
    FOREIGN KEY constraints can reference another column in the same table. This is referred to as a self-reference.
    A FOREIGN KEY constraint specified at the column level can list only one reference column. This column must have the same data type as the column on which the constraint is defined.
    A FOREIGN KEY constraint specified at the table level must have the same number of reference columns as the number of columns in the constraint column list. The data type of each reference column must also be the same as the corresponding column in the column
    list.
    The Database Engine does not have a predefined limit on either the number of FOREIGN KEY constraints a table can contain that reference other tables, or the number of FOREIGN KEY constraints that are owned by other tables that reference a specific table.
    Nevertheless, the actual number of FOREIGN KEY constraints that can be used is limited by the hardware configuration and by the design of the database and application. We recommend that a table contain no more than 253 FOREIGN KEY constraints, and that it
    be referenced by no more than 253 FOREIGN KEY constraints.
    FOREIGN KEY constraints are not enforced on temporary tables.
    If a foreign key is defined on a CLR user-defined type column, the implementation of the type must support binary ordering. For more information, see
    CLR User-Defined Types.
    A column of type varchar(max) can participate in a FOREIGN KEY constraint only if the primary key it references is also defined as type
    varchar(max).

    Hi ,
    Iam getting the below error at transport in quality
    Foreign key generation error for field 'ZZEVV_FR_KONX-KNUMH'
    Thanks

    Edited by: chidambar dixit on Jul 25, 2008 8:26 AM

    HI,
    Then check the error log carefully. Problem might be some else. If not try to reimport the transport with the help of BASIS.
    Also check the status of check table in quality. Is it active?
    All ur objects are in single TR? If not the u have to move check table TR first and then later objects TR.
    If nothing works then include all the objects in another TR and transport. make sure all are active.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

  • Foreign key Mapping based on Data - in SQL Developer Data modeler

    Team
    Do SQL Developer Data modeler supports Foreign Key mapping based on the Data in the Schema rather defined at the DDL ? For e.g if we implement a Objects Relation ship mapping in Data base, we don't define Foreign keys at table creation.
    Toad does this feature through "AUTOMATIC FOREIGN KEYS MAPPING IN TOAD DATA MODELER" more info at (http://toadworld.com/Blogs/tabid/67/EntryId/905/Automatic-Foreign-Keys-Mapping-in-Toad-Data-Modeler.aspx)
    any one know how to implement through some scripts also helps me
    Regards
    Raj

    If you have table PKs defined and the candidate columns match those PK columns, then you can use the Discover Foreign Keys utility. Right mouse over the relational model name (node) in the left browser. It is about half way down the menu. I did a blog post about it last week on kentgraziano.com.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler - Relation to Foreign Key Generation

    SQL Developer Data Modeler 2.0.0 Build 584.
    I am having trouble with Relations to Foreign Keys when Forward Engineering a Relational Model from a Logical Model.
    First of all, the Naming Standard is not applied to the Foreign Keys when I perform the Engineer to Relational Model.
    So I right click on the Relational Model from the Browser and Apply Naming Standards to Keys and Constraints.
    I uncheck everything but Foreign Keys.
    Now, Foreign Keys are named according to my Naming Standards.
    However, this process also performs renames on the Column Foreign Keys even though I specifically unchecked that option.
    This appears to be a BUG in the software and I haven't found a way around it.
    I tried using {column} instead of {ref column} in the Naming Standard Template for Column Foreign Key, but that simply resulted in renaming my columns to "{column}".
    Please confirm and/or let me know of any work-around for this.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Philip,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Is this recorded as a bug to be addressed in the future?
    Should I submit this problem via Oracle Support?
    The other work-around I came up with is to override every Relation name in the Logical Model with the name I want to use in the Relational Model.
    When the Relational Model is Engineered, this becomes my Foreign Key name.
    Of course, this is not how I want to do things, so I am hoping for a bug fix someday.

    Dan

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler not drawing foreign key relationships

    I'm having trouble with SQL Developer Data Modeler when I importa a DDL that has foreign keys. I export DDL files from SQL developer and choose various subsets of files. Sometimes Data Modeler will not recognize a foreign key if I include say a dozen files in the DDL file, but it will if I include just a few. Worse, even if the foreign key is recognized, sometimes it is not drawn in the Data Modeler and I have no way to make it be drawn. To be specific, I import a file containing the DDL for just two tables -- I see the foreign key! I import a file containing the DDL for a dozen tables including the two, I don't! Is there something I am not understanding about when Data Modeler will draw foreign keys or is the tool simply quite buggy?
    Much thanks!
    -ttamon

    Hi Philip,
    I believe I have isolated the problem. Apparently if a field is named "FOREIGN..." it interferes with the tool recognizing foreign keys. Try to import a DDL file containing the following text:
    CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_ONE"
    (     "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "VALUE" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),

    You will discover the foreign key is not recognized or drawn! Now, if you swap the location of the third table (put it up first) everything works fine. This is how I discovered the problem, various subsets would work, others would not. To confirm the problem is with the field named "FOREIGN_NAME" use the DDL as specified above but change the first letter in the word "FOREIGN" to something else, and it will recognize the foreign key. Looks like a bug to me (took me about 4 hours to isolate this!). I am using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version 2.0.0 Build 584.

  • New SQL Developer Data Modeler : name of attributes of foreign key

    Hi,
    with designer the name of column of foreign key was the " short name of entity/table master" + "_" + "the name of column attribute of the master table" .
    Instead in the sql developer D.M. the system uses directly the name of the column/attribute of the master table and if the name exists in the slave table it uses a number to distinguish them .
    So, if i have a table with short name gp and a primmary key id and a slave table with even a column id ,
    with the D.M i'll have in the slave table a column named id2; in the designer instead the new column is gp_id .
    Is possible to have the same behavior of designer even in the SQL Developer Data Modeler ?
    Regards
    Gianpaolo Giliberto

    Hi Gianpaolo,
    the columns of foreign keys are generated without the short name of master tablehow do you define that short name? Table and column have property "Abbreviation" - short name should be set there. You need also to set naming templates in "General Options>Naming Standard>Templates". Templates will be used when foreign key is created or you can apply them in Table dialog or for whole relational model using pop-up menu in the browser.
    no foreign key index is generated on foreign key columns I assume, you want it for DDL generation only - this is controlled in "General Options>DDL"

  • SQL data modeller -- how to create 1 to 1 relationship foreign key ?

    hi guys...
    i got 2 tables..
    table 1 - CFR
    CFR_ID = primary key
    table 2 - USER_PLAN
    USER_ID = primary key
    PLAN_ID,
    CFR_ID = foreign key reference (table 1)
    The business flows go like this..
    insdie CFR table, it contain all records / transactions of a particular user/plan. everytime a new transaction occurs for a plan/user, a new CFR_ID / row will be generated.
    after which, the newly generated CFR_ID for the new row , will be updated to the CFR_ID in USER_PLAN
    Thus, there is always a 1 to 1 relationship between the 2 table regardless how many CFR_ID is generated for a particular USER_PLAN. as the CFR_ID in the USEr_plan table will always be the latest one generated inside the CFR table.
    However, in the data modeller, i am unable to create such foreign key relationship... ANY idea how do i create a 1 on 1 foreign key relationship ? or there is no such way..
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Noob

    Hi philips,
    Thanks for the wonderful reply..
    Just to double comfirm with you,
    even if i had set a unique constraint on CFR_ID(foreign key column), inside the relationship model, the relationship between the foreign key is still showing as a 1:m relationship right ?
    just that a character 'U' will appear beside the CFR_ID column.
    However the diagraphm is still showing a 1:M relationship.
    is this correct ?
    Regards,
    Noob
