SQL, PL/SQL Expression and PL/SQL function

In a Post Calculation Computation field I wanted the following computation:
if B is X
then
field = A
else
field = B
end if;
or as a decode
Decode(B,X,A,B)
I could not get this to work so I wrote a database function that simulates the decode. So when I put:
My_decode(B,X,A,B)
in the field it did work.
Basically I am not sure what kind of code one is expected to put into SQL, PL/SQL Expression and PL/SQL function fields. Can someone give an example of each? Also the APEX help is sometimes incorrect.
For example if you click the "Post Calculation Computation" label it says:
The For example, if this item is named P1_X, you could use post calculation expressions such as UPPER(:P1_X), INITCAP(:P2_Y), MIN(:P1_X,:P2_Y-200), NVL(:P1_X,:P2_Y), or a function call such as return my_func(:P1_X); to set the final value of the item.
But if you put return my_func(:P1_X); in the field you get an error. It should be just my_func(:P1_X);
thanks Rene

DECODE is only available in SQL, so would have to be used in a SQL Expression.Yes, that's what APEX keeps telling me when I use in in a field that has "SQL or PL/SQL expression" above it. So what do you put in the field?

  • Regular Expression and PL/SQL help

    I am using Oracle 9i, does 9i support regular expression? What functions are there?
    My problem is the birth_date column in my database comes from teleform ( a scan program that reads what people wrote on paper), so the format is all jacked up.... 50% of them are 01/01/1981, 10% are 5/14/1995, 10% are 12/5/1993, 10% are 1/1/1983, 10% are 24-JUL-98. I have never really used regular expression and pl/sql, can anybody help me convert all of them to 01/01/1998?
    Does Oralce 9i support regular expression? What can I do if oralce 9i does not support regular expression? Thank you very much in advance.

    9i doesn't support regular expressions (at least not in the 10g regular expressions sense. There is an OWA_PATTERN_MATCH package that has some facilities for regular expressions). But it doesn't look like this is a regular expressions problem.
    Instead, this is probably a case where you need to
    - enumerate the format masks you want to try
    - determine the order you want to try them
    - write a small function that tries each format mask in succession until one matches.
    Of course, there is no guarantee that you'll ever be able to convert the data to the date that the user intended because some values will be ambiguous. For example, 01/02/03 could mean Feb 1, 2003 or Jan 2, 2003 or Feb 3, 2001 depending on the person who entered the data.
    Assuming you can define the order, your function would just try each format mask in turn until one generated a valid date, i.e.
    BEGIN
      BEGIN
        l_date := TO_DATE( p_string_value, format_mask_1 );
        RETURN l_date;
      EXCEPTION
        WHEN OTHERS THEN
          NULL;
      END;
      BEGIN
        l_date := TO_DATE( p_string_value, format_mask_2 );
        RETURN l_date;
      EXCEPTION
        WHEN OTHERS THEN
          NULL;
      END;
      BEGIN
        l_date := TO_DATE( p_string_value, format_mask_3 );
        RETURN l_date;
      EXCEPTION
        WHEN OTHERS THEN
          NULL;
      END;
      BEGIN
        l_date := TO_DATE( p_string_value, format_mask_N );
        RETURN l_date;
      EXCEPTION
        WHEN OTHERS THEN
          NULL;
      END;
      RETURN NULL;
    END;Justin

  • SQL Injection with CF7 and MS SQL 2005

    I looked through a bunch of SQL injection posts and couldn't
    find a definitive answer to this...
    Let me introduce this by saying that I know I should be using
    CFQUERYPARAM with EVERY CF variable in a CFQUERY tag. No excuses.
    But for a necessary quick fix, if I only use it for numeric
    DB fields, is SQL injection still possible (using MS SQL 2005)?
    I've yet to successfully perform SQL injection while manipulating a
    variable surrounded by single quotes in the query.
    Scenario 1) select * from users where user_id=#form.user_id#
    ...is a gimme to hack, but
    Scenario 2) select * from users where
    password='#form.password#' ...is another story
    Has anyone ever heard of a successful SQL injection attack in
    a Scenario 2 situation.
    I'll fix everything up eventually, but I've got a Pen Test
    coming up soon, and a lot of raw code to review.
    Thanks

  • Data to sql server using labview and labview sql toolkit

    Hello everyone,
    I am using mssqlserver 7.0, labview 6.1 and labview sql toolkit.
    I am getting error while i try to store (large) data of size more than 4000bytes. Has anyone come accross such problem .
    Looking for your solutions or suggestion for the
    above said problem.

    Check if the threshold is actual 4095 or 4096.
    If so it is probably a default size of the field you are trying to write. If so, change table properties.

  • Is it possible to have different authentication mode for SQL Server Database Engine and corresponding SQL Server instance?

    Hi,
    I have installed the x64 SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with default settings and run MBSA 2.3 (using default settings too). It shows three SQL Server instances: MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS, SQLEXPRESS and SQLEXPRESS (32-bit). For the first, authentication
    mode is Windows, for the rest two - mixed. Here https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/03e470dc-874d-476d-849b-c805acf5b24d/sql-mbsa-question-on-folder-permission?forum=sqlsecurity question
    about such multiple instances was asked and the answer is that "MSSQL10.TEST_DB
    is the instance ID for the SQL Server Database Engine of the instance, TEST_DB", so in my case, it seems that MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS is the instance ID for SQL Server Database Engine  of the SQLEXPRESS instance.
    I have two questions:
    1) How can it be that SQL Server DB Engine instance has different authentication mode than corresponding SQL Server Instance?
    2) Why 32-bit instance reported although I installed only 64-bit version?
    Also, this https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/security/en-US/6b12c019-eaf0-402c-ab40-51d31dce968f/mbsa-23-reporting-sql-32bt-instance-is-running-in-mixed-mode-when-it-is-set-to-integrated?forum=MBSA question seems to be related to this
    issue, but there is no answer :(.

      Because I DO NOT want the three people who will be having access to the production SQL Server to also have access to the primary host ProductionA.  Since I have to allow them to RDC into the box to manage the SQL Server, I figure why not create
    a separate VM for each one of them and they can RDC into those instead.
    Does this make any sense?
    Any tips are greatly appreciated.  The main reason for doing this is because the three people who will be accessing the box, I need to isolate each one of them and at the same time keep them off of the primary ProductionA.
    Thanks for your help.
    M
    Hello M,
    Since you dont want the 3 guys to have access to Production machine A.You can install SQL Server client .By client i mean SQL server management studio(SSMS) on there local desktop and then create login for them in SQL Server.Open port on which your SQL server
    is running for three of the machines so that they can connct.Now with SSMS installed on each machine each can connect to SQL server from there own machine.
    I would also like you to be cautious with giving Sysadmin privilege to all three of them ,first please note down what task they would do and then decide what rights to be provided.
    Your option will also work but you need to create 3 VM for that .Which is more tedious task.
    Hope this helps

  • SQL Developer 1.5 and MS SQL Server

    Can I use SQL Developer 1.5.1 to access MS SQL Server, just like it was possible in the previous versions of SQL Developer? How can it be done? MS SQL Server does not appear in the 'New Connection'....

    The SQL Server node will only appear if you have installed the third party jdbc drivers.
    You can download the jdbc driver through check for updates and then you need to register the driver in Tools | Preferences|Database|Third Party JDBC Drivers.
    The relevant connection tab should then appear.

  • How do you allow SQL Server 2014 Express for remote connection and in firewall?

    I'm sorry if this was answered here before.
    I installed SQL Server 2014 Express and it is working perfectly. I want my server to be accessed through LAN. It is a named instance.
    I searched the internet and here's what i did:
    1. Through the SQL Configuration manager, I enabled all the Protocols of my Instance (TCP/IP, Named Pipes and Shared Memory). I changed in the IP Addresses the "IP ALL" TCP Dynamic Ports to 1434.
    2. In the Firewall I made an Inbound Rule to allow the Program (%ProgramFiles% (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MyInstance\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe)
    3. I also made 2 Inbound Rules to allow (TCP/IP Port 1433) and (UDP Port 1434).
    4. Restarted my instance. SQL Server Browser and  SQL Server Reporting Services are also running.
    5. No Luck I cant still access the server using a different computer in the network.
    Please help.

    Hello,
    In Express Edition by default remote connections are disabled, you have to enable it first:
    Configure the remote access Server Configuration Option
    It's always a two way communication, so you have to create also outbound rules, not only inbound, and this on server as well as on client side; see
    Configure a Windows Firewall for Database Engine Access

  • Cannot see new SQL 2008 R2 Express instance on Small Business Server 2011!

    Hi,
    As it is stated on the subject line, I'm having a problem after I did a new install of SQL 2008 R2 Express and put a new instance on SBS 2011.
    I'm developing a new program using SQL 2008 in C# and VB.Net. I have SQL 2008 R2 Express installed on my computer called "MSQL8R2EDATA" on my PC. Now I need to deploy it on SBS 2011 so I can do some testing on other workstations.
    I'm currently running Windows 7, 64 bit, and it's named STEVE-PC. The SBS 2011 is named SERVER1, and it's 64 bit as well.
    After installation on SERVER1 (SBS 2011), I then fired up SQL Server Configuration Manager and enabled Named Pipes, TCP/IP, and VIA.
    After I've completed the SQL Configuration on SERVER1, I went back on my PC (STEVE-PC) and I tried to use Management Studio to connect to the  new instance MSQL8R2EDATA on SBS 2011, only problem is, I only see the computer name, not the new instance
    I've installed.
    Back on SBS 2011 (SERVER1), I've verified that all the protocols are enabled, and the SQL Server Browser is automatically loaded and currently running, as well the MSQL8R2EDATA instance is automatically loaded and running, yet I still cannot see
    it from my PC (STEVE-PC). I even switched from dynamic ports to a static port of 64719 (that was what the MSQL8R2EDATA was listening on that port when it was dynamic), and then added new rules to the Windows Firewall for program of the SQLSERVR.EXE, and
    for UDP and TCP for port 64719 to "Allow All Connections" for Domain, Private, and Public; yet I still cannot connect SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA. I even disabled the firewall and then trying to connect once again to SBS 2001 and it still fails.
    In case you're wondering, I left it on port 64719 since there are other active SQL Servers on SBS 2011 (SharePoint, SBSMonitoring, and ACT7).
    Interestingly, when I run Management Studio on SBS 2011, I can see STEVE-PC\MSQL8R2EDATA and I'm able to log in and connect to it.
    So what's going on here?!? Why am I able to connect to STEVE-PC which is Windows 7 64 from SBS 2011 (SERVER1), but I cannot connect from my computer to that instance on SBS 2011??
    I really could use some big time help on this.
    EDIT: Sorry for the confusion, but on the Windows Firewall (WF.msc), I did add new rules for incoming connections on:
    Program incoming connections to SQLSERVR.EXE
    TCP Port 64719
    UDP Port 64719
    EDIT: To further assist, I have Management Studio installed on the SBS 2011, and I can locally log in and connect to the MSQL8R2DATA on SERVER1 with success. I even tried tcp:SERVER1\MSQL8R2DATA and again it is successful log-in and connection.
    Thanks in advance!
    Steve

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response, but I have a question:
    Installing SQL Express or SQL Server is not recommended on SBS
    2011 because it is a DC, however technically it will work.
    I'm a newbie when it comes to SBS 2011 and I'm taking a crash course on the subject. Can you explain to me what you mean by "DC"? Also, why
    isn't recommended to install a new instance on SBS 2011?
    As I also stated, I've added "New Rules" to the Windows Firewall to allow incoming connections on port 64719 for both TCP and UDP, and I also allowed incoming connections for SQLSERVR.EXE but no joy to connect to the SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA.
    And yes, I can log-in and connect locally on SERVER1 using Management Studio with success. I even used tcp:SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA with the same success. It's my workstation STEVE-PC that fails. If that fails, then the rest of the workstations are going to fail.
    Are you suggesting that I put the SQL Server 2008 Express on another workstation and just allow to to be
    accessed that way?

  • Unable to extract SQL Server 2014 Express from MSDN

    Hi,
    I visited the MSDN website to download the SQL Server 2014 Express and it fails to complete the download if I am on IE. If I use Chrome, I am able to download but subsequently fails to extract from the executable. Where else may I get a copy of this software?

    Hi Jenne
    I am using CHrome and I download any version of SQL Server that you can think about and installed all :-)
    please try to use Chrome (IE can be used of course but you might need more security configurations, especially if you download to Windows Server OS). Try to install again and provide us the exact log file information on the failor that you get. I can not promise,
    but we might understand the problem from there
    * Make sure to scan the file before use it!
    Even if you think that you have downloaded it from Microsoft, there are ways to impersonate another website and using DNS make you use the real domain/URL and getting the fake website.
    ** Make sure to use only the oriinal file from Microsoft website

  • Installing SQL Server 2014 Express package as ClickOnce prerequisite

    I'm using clickOnce and deploying an installer with it.
    I have tried various settings. Using SQL Server 2008 Express and SQL Server 2012 Express as prerequisite is all ok (I've dowloaded them and set the option of clickonce "download prerequisites from the same path of app").
    Now I'm trying to do the same thing with SQL Server 2014 Express.
    Since the SQL Server 2014 Express package isn't alredy done line 2008 and 2012 versiones, I'm trying to create it.
    I have done and it seems to work, but while installing it gives error number **-2054422506**. It is a very generic error and I don't understand it.
    It appears a pop up saying the installation is stopped because it is an error installing SQL Server Express 2014 and to look the log for more infos.
    The log only says:
        Installing using command
        'C:\Users\VIRTUA~1\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD24F4.tmp\SqlExpress2014\

        Process exited with code -2054422506
        Status of package 'SQL Server 2014 Express' after install is 'InstallFailed'

    I've copied the SqlExpressChk.exe file from the SQL Server 2012 Express package, hoping it is the same (2008 and 2012 versions seems the same, so I supposed it also for the 2014).
    I've delete the part in package.xml about the publicKey, since I don't know it and, further, I think I don't need it.
    In the same file, I've inserted custom parameters, first like in the 2008 and 2012 versions, then doing some attempts (without success).
    Did anyone have this problem? How did you have manage it?
    **NOTE**: I'm using my clickOnce deploy in an empty virtual machine, so there aren't any conflicts o something similar.
    More attempts, more failures, always the same error! I'm deleting the optional stuff to study better the core of the xml, but still no success.. does microsoft have a package of sql server 2014 express?

    refer to this link

    thanks! =)
    SqlServer usually runs a file (SqlExpressChk.exe) to see if there is already an installation and a sql instance called sqlExpress (for the express installations). Do you know how can do this test with the bootstrapper manifest generator?
    I am not able to test it currently, but I assume that will also check whether that has installed.
    You have tested it, right?

  • Cannot restart SQL Server Agent - SQL Server 2008 Express

    Hi
    I don't know if this affected it but we had a auto notification to change our work passwords the other day, I then couldn't get my local SQL express to logon using domain login.
    I then went into SQL Server Config Mgr. and both SQL Server Express and SQL Server Agent were stopped. I tried to restart but no luck, so went into properties of SQL Server Express and remapped my domain name (domain\name) and new password and it started,
    but agent will not start.I also checked log paths in registry match my log paths in system and went to:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL
    Where a few of the folders I didn't have permission but it asked me to confirm I want permission when I dbl clicked on them.
    When I try to start agent I get error:

    SQL Server Express and SQL Server Agent were stopped
    Hello Andrew,
    With SQL Server 2008 Express the "SQL Server Agent" is installed as well, but it's not a supported Feature of the Express Edition, therefore you can't start / use the Agent.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise 4.0

    Hi Expert,
    I'm going to install SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise 4.0 on my virtualized system (vmware) composed as: windows server 2008 Enterprise Edition R2 + Tomcat. I have some doubts related to the DB version to choose.
    Due to the fact that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express is bundled with SAP BOE 4.0 I want to use this DB.
    However, I saw in the Microsoft Portal that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express (http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/product-info/compare.aspx)  that:
    Number of CPUs     1
    Maximum memory utilized     1 GB
    Maximum database size     10 GB
    These my doubts:
    1) Could these characteristics  generate performance issues for a production environment?
    2) Which is a typical DB size for a production enviroment? could be greater then 10 GB?
    3) Can I use Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express  in a virtualized system (vmware)?
    Thanks in advance for collabortion
    regards
    gio'

    Hi Gio
    Remember that the BOE system database (or repository) only has a few tables in it, with really one main table that stores a reference to each folder, report, user, group, server, etc. on the system. So the table and the database itself do not grow very large. In the past year, we have done over 70 SAP BusinessObjects projects and I can't recall one where the database size would even approach 5GB in total, let alone 10GB.
    The reason for this is that the database only stores a reference to the physical objects and content within BOE-- the actual reports, universes, etc. are stored on the file system within the Input and Output file repository folders.
    And the memory constraints are not really an issue either with BOE-- the database itself does not come under much strain during the day-to-day operation of the server. If you believe that the memory may be an issue, you can always start with SQL Server 2008 Express and then using the new tools in the 4.0 CMC to monitor the memory usage on the server. If you need to, you can move the system database to another SQL Server edition, or alternately move the database to another one of the supported platforms, including Oracle, DB2, etc.
    Hope this helps!
    regards
    David

  • Issues in Importing Access Database into SQL Server 2014 Express

    I have been trying to import the Northwind.accdb database into SQL Server 2014 Express using the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. Every time I try, I end up with the following messages. I have reviewed previous replies given to similar queries but
    I am not getting anywhere. Appreciate if anyone can help. Thanks.

    First I got this message:
    You are connecting to SQL Server version that is different the version specified in the SSMA project. This may lead to schema not converted correctly and synchronisation issues. Do you want to continue?
