SQL query won't compile based on DB role privileges

Can someone give me an explanation why the SQL query in a report won't compile if an object is owned by another schema and the parsing schema is given privileges to the table via a role grant?
Or to phrase it another way, why do we have to make direct grants on tables to the parsing schema for reports based on SQL queries that access tables in other schemas?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Paul - In Oracle, roles are not enabled during the execution of definer's rights stored procedures which is the environment in which all Application Express application code is parsed/executed. There are scads of posts about this topic in this forum.

  • DG4ODBC MSSQL query works in sql, but won't compile in PL/SQL.

    I'm using DG4ODBC from 11g to query a SQL Server database. The query I'm using works in a SQL DEveloper SQL worksheet and sqlplus, but won't compile in a PL/SQL procedure.
    The query is
      INSERT

          cir_labelcode,
          cir_knownasname,

    DG4ODBC is also 11.2.0.3

    The gateway claims about this column "Address1_TimeZoneRuleVersionNu" which is not listed in your select list.
    When a gateway connection is established it first checks out all columns of the table you want to select to determine the data types and then it fetches the data for the columns you want to select. But there's also an exception - when you use functions the gateway is not able to translate into the syntax of the foreign database. in this case ALL columns will be fetched into the Oracle database and the result is processed locally (post processing).
    You're using replace function which won't be mapped to the foreign database equivalent using DG4ODBC so it will post process the result and fetch from all columns all the data into the Oracle database. Your table contains a column which exceeds the 30 character limitation of Oracle, hence the select will fail.
    The only work around is to create a view on the foreign database side which reduces the column name length to 30 characters or less.

  • Sql query to fetch data based on date conditons

    Hi All,
    We have to schedule a script that runs at 1:00 AM from Monday to Friday.
    The script will run a  sql query  ,that will fetch the data from sql database 2008 based on the below conditions.
    Case 1: If date = current Date then retrieve the data of the previous Date.
    Case 2: If date = Monday then retrieve the entries of Friday ,Saturday and Sunday.
    Please help us on how we can achieve this.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Are you asking about Patrick's
    solution?
    If so I highly recommend NOT to use this solution. PLease read LMU92's
    and
    Visakh16's responses.
    Why not to use it?
    1. This solution is not deterministic!
    A deterministic algorithm is an algorithm which, given a particular input, will always produce the same output. This solution give different values for different setting! It is depending for example on "SET LANGUAGE" value
    As mentioned above if you try to use any other languge then English then this query will not work since you will never get the value "Sunday"
    2. Moreover! Even if you are using "SET LANGUAGE 'English'" then this
    solution depend on "SET DATEFIRST" and only take into consideration that the value can be 1 or 7, using any other value you will get that @weekendDateMod is null!
    What can you use?
    let's test some value first to get the solution yourself. We know that we don't care about "SET LANGUAGE" since I will not use any language dependency but we need to examine "SET DATEFIRST". Try to change the value from 1 to 7 and check
    the value of this query
    SET DATEFIRST 1 -- Change this value from 1 to 7!
    DECLARE @Sunday DATE = '2014-08-03' -- This is Sunday
    DECLARE @Munday DATE = '2014-08-04' -- This is Munday
    SELECT DATEPART(DW,@Sunday),DATEPART(DW,@Munday), @@DATEFIRST
    Can you see the behavior ?
    The results are hidden here (select the text and you will see them)
    DATEFIRST___Sunday_______Monday
    1___________7___________1
    2___________6___________7
    3___________5___________6
    4___________4___________5
    5___________3___________4
    6___________2___________3
    7___________1___________2
    assuming you did the exercise above yourself, then  you can now think now what is the filter that you need...
    You can use a filter on those two parameters together using "where DATEPART... and @@DATEFIRST...) or using one combine check. Can you think how?
    Notice that this value is always 2 on Monday! Regarding our setting
    (DATEPART(DW,@CurrentDate) + @@DATEFIRST) % 7
    Please Don't Go Down Before YOu Understand!
    Now we can go to the solution
    * I really hope that you read all and did the small exercise yourself! You can not become a developer by copy answers, and this is the reason that from the start I only gave you tha way and not the final query!
    DECLARE @CurrentDate DATE = '2007-08-20' -- This is only for testing since you should use the function GETDATE() instead
    DECLARE @MinDateToFilter DATE
    SET @MinDateToFilter = CASE
    WHEN ((DATEPART(DW,@CurrentDate) + @@DATEFIRST) % 7) = 2 THEN DATEADD(DAY,-4,@CurrentDate)
    ELSE DATEADD(DAY,-1,@CurrentDate)
    END
    SELECT *
    FROM sales.salesOrderHeader
    WHERE orderDate > @MinDateToFilter
    I hope this was useful :-)

  • How to pass a variable for a SQL query in OLEDB source?

    Hi All,
    I am new to SSIS and working on it past few days. Can anyone please help me getting through a scenario where I need to pass a variable in the SQL statement in OLEDB source connection. Please find below for the details.
    eg:
    1) I have a SQL table with the columns SerialNumber, Name, IsValid, FileName with multiple rows.
    2) I have the file Name in a variable called Variable1.
    3) I want to read the data from my SQL table filtering based on the FileName (Variable1) within a data flow task and pull that data to the destination table.
    Question: In the data flow task, added source and destination DB connection with a script component in between to perform my validations. When trying to retrieve the data from source using the variable (i.e. SQL Query with variable), I am not able to add
    the query as the SQL statement box is disabled. How to filter the data based on the variable in the source DB ?
    Any help/suggestions would be of great help.
    Thanks,
    Sri

    Just to add with Vaibhav comment .
    SQL Command  : SQL query either with SQL variable or any condition  or simple Sql statement
    Like ;
    Select * from dimcustomer
    SQL Command using Varible :
    Sometimes we design our dynamic query in variable and directly use that variable name in oledb source.
    If you Sql query needs a condition based on SSIS variable .
    you can find a Example here :
    http://www.toadworld.com/platforms/sql-server/b/weblog/archive/2013/01/17/ssis-replace-dynamic-sql-with-variables.aspx

  • Some hierarchy related issues, SQL Query is including unselected columns?

    Hello Guys...
    I have something strange happening in my report.. First of all, the RPD I have is built according to JDE model.
    There is a schema which looks like this:
    BU Dim ------->Fact<---------Account Dim <--------BU Account Dim (Indeed a copy of BU Dim)
    A dim hierarchy is created as AccountDim with Account Desc at the lowest bottom level, the dimension key at that level is AcctID which is the unique identifier.
    The issue comes when I created a report using Account, Account Desc, Fact Measures. The measures are not displayed as per account even if the joins and aggr levels are all defined correctly at the proper level..
    I checked the sql that is generately, it is interested that whenever I include Account Desc column in the report, the SQL will include Actid column in the select and groupby part, which results in data being at the wrong level..
    When I remove Actid from Account Hierarchy as the key, the report runs correctly and the SQL query won't include Actid column.. However, since the removal of the ACTid key from Account Hierarchy will cause other reports not running properly, I have to revert the change back to normal.. I'd like to know what to do in order to investigate more deeply as what's going on and as why the SQL will include columns fields that are not selected at answer levels..
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciately.. I'd like to provide the rpd file, but not sure how to..
    Many Thanks

    Hi, Vikeng,
    Why use the salary table at all, if you're not ever getting any information from it?
    Why not:
    SELECT  EmpName
    ,      DeptName
    ,      'N/A'          AS SalaryValue
    FROM     Employee
    ,     Department
    WHERE      Employee.EmployeeId     = Department.EmployeeId
    Are you saying that somethimes there is a relationship, but not with this sample data?
    If so, post some different sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements) that has a relationship for some rows, and not for others. Post the results you want from that data, and explain, with specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
    You might just need an outer join.

  • Bold a single row in a Report based on SQL Query

    Should be easy? So, how do I bold a single row in a report based on SQL query without creating a new template or writing Java for the page? What is the Tabular Form Element "Element Attributes" field for? Or what am I supposed to put in there to make it do anything?

    One way to do this is to add a hidden column to your report which contains the formatting value, for example:
    select empno
    , ename
    , sal
    , decode(empno,1,'font-weight:bold','font-weight:normal') style
    from emp
    Hide the STYLE column.
    Then you can use this column for each column in Column Formatting > HTML expression in this way:
    <span style="#STYLE#">#SAL#</span>
    Unfortunately you have to do this for each colum you want to appear bold.
    good luck,

  • Include Button that executes PL/SQL procedure to SQL query based region

    I would like to add two columns to a SQL query region.
    These columns would not be sourced from the query, but rather would be used to execute a PL/SQL procedure.
    For example, I would like to have a manager approve or deny adding an additional employee to the department.
    There would be one button for APPROVE. And, one button for DENY.
    The PL/SQL procedure would execute to perform the required DML based upon the selected action (either APPROVE or DENY).
    A sample output would look like this:
    <APPROVE>, <DENY>, John Doe, Accountant
    <APPROVE>, <DENY>, Jane Doe, Accountant
    Is there any way to add a button to a SQL Query based report region where that button executes a stored proc? If so, what is the basic process for doing this?
    Thanks!

  • Setting current values in Multiple Select List in SQL Query based Report

    Hi,
    I have a report based on a sql query that contains a multiple select list. Unfortunately I cannot get the multiple select list to display the current values (p_value) correctly. I have created a page item, :p311_current_versions, that is set using a pre-header process and it returns a value with a colon delimited format e.g. '10.1.2.1.0:10.1.2.2.0'. Then this item is used in the sql query to set the current value (p_value) of the apex_item.select_list_from_query function. However when the table is displayed, instead of having two entries, 10.1.2.1.0 and 10.1.2.2.0 selected, it has an extra entry '10.1.2.1.0:10.1.2.2.0' selected.
    Here is my code:
    select distinct a.product, a.version from (
    select distinct
    apex_item.display_and_save(2,product)||apex_item.hidden(1,env_product_id) PRODUCT,
    APEX_ITEM.SELECT_LIST_FROM_QUERY(3,decode(product, 'HTTP Server' , :p311_current_versions, version), 'SELECT distinct version d, version r FROM ebs_tech_stack where
    product ='''||PRODUCT||'''',
    decode(PRODUCT, 'HTTP Server' ,'multiple="multiple" style="width:170px"','style="width:170px"'),
    'NO') as version
    from ebs_environment_tech_stack
    where environment_id = :p311_umgebung_id) a order by a.product
    If anyone can help me figure out how to set the current values correctly I'd be really grateful!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Jean

    Jean,
    I don't think this is possible using the apex_item package. The select_list_from_query function accepts only a single value for the second parameter.

  • Problem writing a sql query for a select list based on a static LOV

    Hi,
    I have the following table...
    VALIDATIONS
    ID          Number     (PK)
    APP_ID          Number
    REQUESTED     Date
    APPROVED     Date
    VALID_TIL     Date
    DEPT_ID          Number     (FK)
    I have a search form with the following field item variables...
    P11_DEPT_ID (select list based on dynamic LOV from depts table)
    P11_VALID (select list based on static Yes/No LOV)
    A report on the columns of the Validations table is shown based on the values in the search form. So far, my sql query for the report is...
    SELECT v.APP_ID,
    v.REQUESTED,
    v.APPROVED,
    v.VALID_TIL,
    d.DEPT
    FROM DEPTS d, VALIDATIONS v
    WHERE d.DEPT_ID = v.DEPT_ID(+)
    AND (d.DEPT_ID = :P11_DEPT_ID OR :P11_DEPT_ID = -1)
    This query works so far. My problem is that I don't know how to do a search based on the P11_VALID item - if 'yes' is selected, then the VALID_TIL date is still valid. If 'no' is selected then the VALID_TIL date has passed.
    Can anyone help me to extend my query to include this situation?
    Thanks.

    Hello !
    Let's have a look at my example:create table test
    id        number
    ,valid_til date
    insert into test values( 1, sysdate-3 );
    insert into test values( 2, sysdate-2 );
    insert into test values( 3, sysdate-1 );
    insert into test values( 4, sysdate );
    insert into test values( 5, sysdate+1 );
    insert into test values( 6, sysdate+2 );
    commit;
    select * from test;
    def til=yes
    select *
      from test
      where decode(sign(trunc(valid_til)-trunc(sysdate)),1,1,0,1,-1)
           =decode('&til','yes',1,-1);
    def til=no
    select *
      from test
      where decode(sign(trunc(valid_til)-trunc(sysdate)),1,1,0,1,-1)
           =decode('&til','yes',1,-1);
    drop table test;  It's working fine, I've tested it.
    The above changes to my first idea I did because of time portion of the DATE datatype in Oracle and therefore the wrong result for today.
    For understandings:
    1.) TRUNC removes the time part of DATE
    2.) The difference of to date-values is the number of days between.
    3.) SIGN is the mathematical function and gives -1,0 or +1 according to an negative, zero or positiv argument.
    4.) DECODE is like an IF.
    Inspect your LOV for the returning values. According to my example they shoul be 'yes' and 'no'. If your values are different, you may have to modify the DECODE.
    Good luck,
    Heinz

  • Oaf: putting validation in VO based on sql query

    Hi All,
    I need few inputs for the customization of OAF page.
    Business Need: Restriction of special character in supplier oaf pages for supplier name.
    There are 3 oaf pages involved in supplier creation/update for R 12.1.3
    1)     oracle\apps\pos\supplier\webui\OrganizationPG (underlying VO is sql query based).
    2)     oracle\apps\pos\supplier\webui\QuickUpdatePG (underlying VO is sql query based).
    3)     oracle\apps\pos\supplier\webui\SuppCrtPG (underlying VO is based on EO - HzPuiOrgProfileQuickEOEx) .
    For pages referring EO, we have extended the underlying EO and override the validateEntity() method to throw the OAAttrValException. After substitution, validation is working.
    For VO based on query, the standard AM’s are instantiating the VO and using Rowimpl class they are setting the attributes.
    Question: How to enforce validation logic in VO or AM in such cases where oracle standard code is instantiating the VO dynamically?
    One possible solution is to use the PPR event on input text message bean and catch it in custom controller’s processFormRequest method and before super. processFormRequest(), we can put the validation.
    Is there any other way to achieve it?

    VO extension will not work as the
    Standard Controller code : oracle.apps.pos.supplier.webui.QuickUpdateCO is calling the AM's method on the click of save button and AM is dynamically invoking the methods in VO.
    Standard Controller code:
    OAApplicationModule oaapplicationmodule = oapagecontext.getApplicationModule(oawebbean);
    if(oapagecontext.getParameter("btnSave") != null)
    oaapplicationmodule.invokeMethod("updateVendor");
    oaapplicationmodule.invokeMethod("updateVendorSites");
    oaapplicationmodule.getTransaction().commit();
    Corressponding standard standard AM code...

  • SQL Query based BI Pub report - Taking too long to produce the output

    Hi All,
    I was trying to produce a BI Publisher based report through enterprise edition of BI Publisher 10.1.3.4
    Its a sql query based report and it has around 20 columns and it has around 1 lakh records.
    The query actually takes only 2 seconds to execute in the database but when we execute from BI Publisher it takes a long time and also it times out most of the time
    Is there something I am missing in the configuration options ?
    Thanks
    Shasi

    I am facing the same problem as well. I am using the Publisher Web service API to run a report with 1 Million records. This report is configured to use OBIEE. It takes a lot of time to generate the report ( around 30 Mins) and even though OBIEE generates the data, my web service client either timesout. Even after increasing the timeout, a 500 internal server error is thrown . Does anyone know of a solution to this.
    Thanks

  • Dynamic Rendering of Child Component based on SQL Query

    I want to preface this with I am very new to ADF.
    I have a page with a parent-multi child (tabbed) layout, and what I want to do is render one of the children based on the values of a sql query. I tried creating a manged bean but I had no idea how to get the database connection, so I added a method to my application module implementation instead. The method is of type boolean that runs my sql query and based on the results, returns true or false. I then set the tab's Rendered property to this method, #{bindings.method.execute}. Unfortunately, when I run the application the tab is not rendered, no matter what the value of the results. I therefore set a breakpoint on the code and ran it through the debugger, but the code is never being executed.
    If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.
    I am running JDeveloper 11.1.1.3, hitting an Oracle 11g database, using ADF BC.
    Thanks,
    Michelle

    I don't really know what you mean, here is my code:
      public boolean checkLevel2Needed(String revwId)
        PreparedStatement stmnt = null;
        StringBuffer sql = new StringBuffer();
        Object[] procArgs = new Object[]{ revwId };
        ResultSet rs = null;
        boolean level2Required = false;
        System.out.println(revwId);
        sql.setLength(0);
        sql.append("Select count(*) as yesCount from usq.vu_review_response ");
        sql.append(" where revw_id = ? ");
        sql.append(" and gp_name = 'Level 1 Screen' ");
        sql.append(" and resp_text = 'Yes' ");
        try
          stmnt = getDBTransaction().createPreparedStatement(sql.toString(), 0);
          if (procArgs != null)
            for (int z = 0; z < procArgs.length; z++)
              stmnt.setObject(z + 1, procArgs[z]);
          rs = stmnt.executeQuery();
          if (rs.next())
            if (rs.getInt("yesCount")>0)
              System.out.println(rs.getInt("yesCount"));
              level2Required = true;
          rs.close();
        catch (SQLException e)
          throw new JboException(e);
        finally
          try
            if (stmnt != null)
              stmnt.close();
          catch (SQLException e) {}
        return level2Required;
      }But I don't think it is ever executing this code, the system.out.println's don't show up in the console and if I run it through the debugger with a breakpoint it never stops.
    What I really need is for this code to execute when I enter this page, and also any time the page is updated. Should I be using a backing bean?
    Thanks,
    Michelle

  • Why field length is shorter than the actual one in a SQL query based grid?

    Hi,
    I have a grid based on a SQL query on a UDO table, but I found when I retrieve the data from a SQL query some column show only part of data. For example, in SQL server the query should return one column data like "ABCD", but in the grid it only shows "A" or "AB". I think the SQL query should be good because when copy the same query executing in SQL server side, it returns me all complete data. But when it is executed in add-on inside a grid, then some column only returns me partial data. In most case it only return the first one or two characters. I don't see any special in the query. Basically it is normal SELECT query, the only possible special is it is using "UNION".
    The SQL query looks like below:
    SELECT fieldA, fieldB FROM table1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT fieldA, fieldB FROM table2
    When it is executed in SQL side, everything looks good, but when i run it in a grid in add-on then fieldB column only display partial data.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Lan

    Hi All,
    Thanks for all your replies, I agree that the issue is caused by the UNION in SQL query. Because when i create a view in SQL based on that query and the grid is based on that SQL view then everything is fine now. I think Petr's solution should work in this case.
    Thank you again!
