Sql representation for cursors

I want to combine 3 complex sql statements parelely (column wise). All of them may have related fields or not.
This can be implemented very easily with cursors.
But I want that to be done by a sql statement to run on a tool like discoverer?
If U want I can provide more details ... CONTACT ME ... soon

pl send the query if u can. u can use inline query to do it. but it entirly depends on the query. in inline query u can write a select statement in from cluse and access the mention column in your parent query. u can see this type of query in ocp dba sql-plsql book.

    Please help. I am using weblogic 8.1 and MS SQL Server 2000. Using JDBC. I have am calling a stored procedure which outputs a CURSOR. I haveing problems specifying the right java.sql.Type for this. I tried java.sql.Type.OTHER but it fails. The code is as follows
    I am planning to return more cursors from the Stored Procedures.

  • Alternative for Cursor in SQL Server 2012

    Hi all,
      I keen to know Alternative for Cursor in SQL Server 2012. Why everyone telling Cursor have performance impact. Any other alternative for row by row comparison like Array in SQL 2012 ?
    Thanks

    It is not the cursor that kills you - it is the loop as such. I've seen more than one example of a poor man's cursor, where they have selected TOP 1 from a #temp ORDER BY, and several operations on the temp table - which is completely void of indexes,
    making the operations for the loop control the slowest in the batch. So you use cursor when you need to iterate.
    But in many cases, you should work and think set-based instead.

    System.out.println("Report PK is: " + getSessionBean1().getTb_reportsRowSet().getBigDecimal("REP_PK"));Can anyone help please?
    Thanks and Regards

    guys if any of you have an idea just post it. It would be of great help for me. I can't figure out my mistake and its been 2days already and still i am stuck with my problem.
    It displays the table but there is an error "java.sql.SQLException: Invalid cursor position" so i cannot put the counter to the session.

  • PL/SQL Block with Cursor

    I was trying to create a PL/SQL block where I am trying to call all the SQL Plans and then drop them one by one. Here is how I am doung -
    SET SERVEROUT ON;
    DECLARE
    EXECSTR VARCHAR2(50);
    v_plans_dropped pls_integer;
    CURSOR C1 IS SELECT SQL_HANDLE FROM DBA_SQL_PLAN_BASELINES;
    BEGIN
    FOR I IN C1 LOOP
    EXECSTR := ''''||I.SQL_HANDLE||'''';
    v_plans_dropped:=dbms_spm.drop_sql_plan_baseline(sql_handle=>EXECSTR);
    END LOOP;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('ERROR while dropping SQL PLAN: ' || SQLCODE || ' : ' || SQLERRM);
    END;
    This is giving me error like - ERROR while dropping SQL PLAN: -38131 : ORA-38131: specified SQL handle
    'SYS_SQL_1470897e7b72c982' does not exist
    Whereas this SQL Plan is there in the baseline - SELECT sql_handle FROM dba_sql_plan_baselines;
    SQL_HANDLE
    SYS_SQL_1470897e7b72c982
    SYS_SQL_75ac336a8071cb06
    SYS_SQL_269cdcd4862f8685
    SYS_SQL_269cdcd4862f8685
    SYS_SQL_0ffdb3bddbe422e2
    SYS_SQL_14d81bbae4a7cc93
    SYS_SQL_5c512b58e7795ba2
    SYS_SQL_33515785e80b75d0
    Above PL/SQL block should be same as like deleting it one by one -
    DECLARE
    v_plans_dropped pls_integer;
    BEGIN
    v_plans_dropped:=dbms_spm.drop_sql_plan_baseline(sql_handle=>'SYS_SQL_1470897e7b72c982');
    END;
    If I run this then it will be sucessul but when I run under a PL/SQL block using cursor then it is giving me error ORA-38131.
    Can you please tell me where I am going wrong here.
    Thanks for your time!

    I have this PL/SQL block -
    DECLARE
    v_plans_dropped pls_integer;
    CURSOR C1 IS SELECT SQL_HANDLE FROM DBA_SQL_PLAN_BASELINES;
    BEGIN
    FOR I IN C1 LOOP
    v_plans_dropped:=dbms_spm.drop_sql_plan_baseline(sql_handle=>I.SQL_HANDLE);
    END LOOP;
    END;
    Requirement - This PL/SQL block should read all the records from DBA_SQL_PLAN_BASELINES table and drop all the plans one by one.
    Problem - It gives me error like this -
    SQL> 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 DECLARE
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-38131: specified SQL handle SYS_SQL_45c1170505dda9a9 does not exist
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SPM", line 2444
    ORA-06512: at line 6
    Analysis: When I ran it 4 times, it showed me that the remaining records after the pl/sql run was like -
    SQL> SELECT COUNT(*) FROM DBA_SQL_PLAN_BASELINES;
    After First Run -
    COUNT(*)
    33429
    After Second Run -
    COUNT(*)
    33255
    After Third Run -
    COUNT(*)
    33228
    After Fourth Run -
    COUNT(*)
    32988
    So, it deletes records but errors out in between. Is it because the PL/SQL block/cursor is not structured properly?
    Thanks for your advice!

  • Need PL/SQL code for this

    Hi,
    I need a PL/SQL code for this one...
    Let me know if something is not clear...
    1) The table CLOB_CLOBJECT_CDA has the columns described below...
    Explaining only those fields which are important in this context
    -- CDA_STEP_ID : Basically a Sequence
    -- CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID : Every id has got a set of records
    -- CLOBJECT_SOURCE2_ID : Every id has got a set of records
    -- LVL : There are total 8 levels..
    This is the main aim :
    1) There are total 16 million rows..(limited to 10 rows here)
    2) We need to go through level by level (LVL column) & insert the intersection records (CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID intersect CLOBJECT_SOURCE2_ID)
    into another table...but this is how it goes..
    Level (LVL column) 3's basically have CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID as level (LVL column) 2 CDA_STEP_ID's..
    (consider the statement --** where CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID = 285 which is same as 1st insert statement step id)..
    The above process goes for next levels until 8..(so have to use loops)
    So for ex :
    We go through the first insert statement and insert the insertion records only when both CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID & CLOBJECT_SOURCE2_ID has got records ..
    If we don't find any records for both of them we should skip the corresponding step id when we go to the next levels...
    Let's go through the 1st insert statement...
    -- We have CDA_STEP_ID = 285 & two sources CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID as 19 & CLOBJECT_SOURCE2_ID as 74...
    -- We see the table CLOBJECT_COUNTS & check whether we have counts for both 19 & 74 ..(In fact we insert counts into this table only if they have records)
    -- If so, we insert the intersection records into CDA_MRN_RESULTS ( we do have counts for both of them..) with CDA_STEP_ID 285...
    -- Then we insert the step id which is 285 along with the count into CLOBJECT_COUNTS..
    Let's go through another insert statement...
    -- Consider CDA_STEP_ID = 288 which has two sources CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID as 19 & CLOBJECT_SOURCE2_ID as 92...
    -- We see the table CLOBJECT_COUNTS & check whether we have counts for both 19 & 92 ..(we have records for 19 but not for 92)
    -- So we should not proceed with this..& also skip all those records (future records with increasing levels..basically level 3's) which have got 288 as CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID..
    (As said earlier that the present CDA_STEP_ID will always be CLOBJECT_SOURCE1_ID in the next level)...
    I wrote the following code which is after the statement...
    Let me have the create & insert statements here..
    create table CLOB_CLOBJECT_CDA
        CDA_STEP_ID           NUMBER,
        CDA_ID                NUMBER,

    hi llturro,
    Thanks for answering my question. I have tried out what you suggested, but I still can't fix my problem. The following are the messages that display when I try to run my servlet. It seems that the DataSource, Connection and Statement are ok, however when it comes to the ResultSet the error message appear. What's wrong with my ResultSet coding ?

    thx,

    You can't use strongly types ref cursors with dynamic SQL, you will have to use weakly typed.

  • Need help on SQL Statement for UDF

    Hi,
    as I am not so familiar with SQL statements on currently selected values, I urgently need help.
    The scenario looks as follows:
    I have defined two UDFs named Subgroup1 and Subgroup2 which represent the subgroups dependent on my article groups. So for example: When the user selects article group "pianos", he only sees the specific subgroups like "new pianos" and "used pianos" in field "Subgroup1". After he has selected one of these specific values, he sees only the specific sub-subgroups in field "Subgroup2", like "used grand pianos".
    I have defined UDTs for both UDFs. The UDT for field "Subgroup1" has a UDF called "ArticleGroup" which represents the relation to the article group codes. The UDT for field "Subgroup2" has a UDF called "Subgroup1" which represents the relation to the subgroups one level higher.
    The SQL statement for the formatted search in field "Subgroup1" looks as follows:
    SELECT T0.[Name] FROM [dbo].[@B_SUBGROUP1]  T0 WHERE T0.[U_ArticleGroup]  = (SELECT $[OITM.ItmsGrpCod])
    It works fine.
    However, I cannot find the right statement for the formatted search in field "Subgroup2".
    Unfortunately this does NOT WORK:
    SELECT T0.[Name] FROM [dbo].[@B_SUBGROUP2]  T0 WHERE T0.[U_Subgroup1]  = (SELECT $[OITM.U_Subgroup1])
    I tried a lot of others that didn't work either.
    Then I tried the following one:
    SELECT T0.[Name] FROM [dbo].[@B_SUBGROUP2]  T0 WHERE T0.[U_Subgroup1] = (SELECT T1.[Code] FROM [dbo].[@B_SUBGROUP1] T1 WHERE T1.[U_ArticleGroup] = (SELECT $[OITM.ItmsGrpCod]))
    Unfortunately that only works as long as there is only one specific subgroup1 for the selected article group.
    I would be sooooo happy if there is anyone who can tell me the correct statement for my second UDF!
    Thanks so much in advance!!!!

    Please ignore the "http://" in the above statements - it is certainly not part of my SQL.
    Please also ignore the strikes.

    Hello Dear,
    Use the below queries to get the values:
    Item Sub Group on the basis of Item Group
    SELECT T0.[Name] FROM [dbo].[@SUBGROUP]  T0 WHERE T0.[U_GroupCod] =$[OITM.ItmsGrpCod]
    Item Sub Group 1 on the basis of item sub group
    SELECT T0.[Name] FROM [dbo].[@SUBGROUP1]  T0 WHERE T0.[U_SubGrpCod]=(SELECT T0.[Code] FROM [dbo].[@SUBGROUP]  T0 WHERE T0.[Name] =$[OITM.U_ItmsSubgrp])
    Sub group 2 on the basis of sub group 1
    SELECT T0.[Name] FROM [dbo].[@SUBGROUP2]  T0 WHERE T0.[U_SubGrpCod1]=(SELECT T0.[Code] FROM [dbo].[@SUBGROUP1]  T0 WHERE T0.[Name] =$[OITM.U_ItmsSubgrp1])
    this will help you.
    regards,
    Neetu

  • Nested table updation in FOR Cursor loop

    Hello,
    I have nested table as follows:
    SQL> desc fp
    Name Null? Type
    ORDER_NUM NOT NULL VARCHAR2(10)
    ORDER_TIE_NUM NOT NULL VARCHAR2(10)
    FACILITY NOT NULL VARCHAR2(10)

    SQL> desc DPM_TRANSFORM_CODE.FP_SLC_SHort

    Name Null? Type
    PART_NUM VARCHAR2(7)
    AREA VARCHAR2(7)

    WHERE PARTS.last_date < SYSDATE - 2/24;
    This Update Statement is in FOR Cursor Loop
    where select statement for the cursor is
    "SELECT ORDER_NUM,ORDER_TIE_NUM,PARTS FROM DPM_REPORTING.FP WHERE FACILITY = 'PN1'"
    This select statement generates 20000 records & due to which the Update statement gets executed that many times inside FOR loop.The Procedure has become quite slow due to this.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Rekha

    You could do it all in one sql update statement, without any pl/sql or cursor or looping:
    UPDATE fp t1
    SET    t1.parts =
           CAST (MULTISET (SELECT part_num, area, part_qty, on_short_cnt,
                                  CASE WHEN last_date < SYSDATE - 2/24
                                       THEN off_short_cnt + 1
                                       ELSE off_short_cnt
                                  END,
                                  first_date, last_date

  • Help in FOr cursor -

    hi all,
    The follwoing is my req - Below the written proc - can anyone check it is correct .
    1.     Write a procedure to compute the following using FOR cursor. Procedure should take 3 parameters. Empno - IN parameter, Empno IN parameter and this can be a default parameter. The OUT parameter should return the total cost to the company.
    DA = 15% of sal
    HRA = 20% of sal
    TA = 8% of sal
    Special Allowance will be decided based on the service in the company

    1) consider using FUNCTION to return the cost result, rather than an out parameter; that would allow you to call it in SQL (for example in an UPDATE)
    2) Your requirement says THREE parameters - but one of them is EMPNO (twice)
    3) Why allow default of EMPNO to 10?
    4) You have used ROUND - that means 11.6 months is treated as 1 year. You should use FLOOR instead (or jus compare real numbers)
    5) Your requriement leaves out 4-5 years service entirely - was that intentional?
    6) The whole section is incorrect:
    - refer to cursor variables using the record name, eg:
    v_salary := emp_rec.salary * 12;
    - You have assigned to local variable v_salary, but not to OUT variable v_cost.
    - your DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE gives you salary * (0.15+0.2+0.08) = 0.43*salary - why?
    7) You could put the whole thing into a single piece of SQL
    SELECT case
                  when months_between(sysdate,hire_date) < 12.0 then null
                  when months_between(sysdate,hire_date) < 24.0 then 0.10
                  when months_between(sysdate,hire_date) < 48.0 then 0.15
                  when months_between(sysdate,hire_date) >= 60.0 then 0.20
                 else null
                 end * salary  "Allowance"
    from   emp
    where {your where clause}
    /(multiply by 12 if salary is monthly and you need annual allowance).

  • What is a good way to check if sql select basd cursor return anything

    Hello everyone,
    I am trying to find a good way to identify that a SQL select based cursor return nothing.
    I know that or we use exception when no data found, or count(*) to check how many rows are returned.
    I have a cursor based on quite a long select statement.
    Like
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE aaa (v_input IN NUMBER, v_output OUT VARCHAR2)
         CURSOR long_cursor IS
              --long select statement(with input variable) ;
    BEGIN
         Select count(*)
         Into v_count
      From
      -- a long select statment with input again ;
      IF v_count > 0 then
        For record in long_cursor loop
         --Get information from cursor
            --other processing for output
        End loop;
      END IF;
    END;Is there any other way than the above ?
    I would love to reduce the amount of typing. I know that repetition in code is not good.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ann

    Not sure I understand your point. I am still a new bie here.

    A flag is just a piece of data. By itself it doesn't prevent anyone from changing the data. And in a multiuser system anything you try to check is based on the COMMITTED data in the system. Two users can be changing two different rows at the same time but neither user will see the other change.
    So if you try to count how many rows meet a particular condition you may get a count of 8 but after the other user commits the count might be 7 or 9. So if you use 8 it may not be valid for very long.

    But the app we use is Oracle Application Express 4.0.
    I assume when the data is read, there will be some kind of lock on these rows so other users cannot change it, right ?
    Or should I use SELECT for update even I do not update anything here.
    >
    I can't help you with that one. That would be a question for the application express forum.
    Oracle Application Express (APEX)
    You don't need to use FOR UPDATE if you don't plan to change the data. But, as explained above, you can't rely on any data you query being the same because another user could be changing it while you are looking at it.
