SQL Rule file on OeBS database
Hello,
is it possible to create SQL Rule File to import data from OeBS database table, if so, how to do it?
When creating SQL Rule File I can select only Essbase servers.
Kind regards
Marcin Stawny
Hi,
You will need to create an ODBC connection to the tables first and then EAS will pick up the ODBC connection name you want to use.
I take it that the tables are just on stored in a standard oracle schema ?

Using an SQL Script file to create database in Java? (monkeyDB.sql)
Hello!
I am a writing an SQL Script so that I can re-create my database on another server (im using my laptop to test it on first though).
I'm connecting to mySQL server using JDBC which works fine, but I was wondering
how can I run an entire script file, say myScript.sql from within a Java class??
(an SQL Script is simply a file containing the regular SQL commands and expressions that you might enter at an sql command line prompt)
example of an SQL Scritp: monkeyDB.sql>>
//#create new db
CREATE DATABASE sample_db;
//#set active db
USE sample_db;
//#set table paramaters
CREATE TABLE monkeys
(name CHAR(20),
age INT UNSIGNED,
sex ENUM('M','F')
//#create standard monkeys
INSERT INTO monkeys(name,age,sex) VALUES("Sammy",10,"M");
INSERT INTO monkeys(name,age,sex) VALUES("Muncht",12,"M");
INSERT INTO monkeys(name,age,sex) VALUES("Jill",8,"F");
//#get recordset
SELECT * FROM monkeys WHERE age < 50;Thanks for your help!thanks. :-)
I thought about that too but I didnt want to hard wire it into the code.
I guess it isnt possible to output the script file using some command from the sql library..? -

Reg: Building Essbase dimension using SQL in rule file
Hi,
We are using Essbase 11.1.2.2. I am trying to build a dimension in a cube using SQL query in the rule file, but i am not able to do it.
I am not able to establish connection to database. Can anyone please give a step by step process to do this.If you really, really, really want to do this --- and by that I mean really get rid of everything in a dimension, create a dummy file with a single child. That single child should have a name that could never exist in your system. Something like "Forty-seven ginger headed sailors". Then set the Dimension Build Settings Member Update to "Remove Unspecified". Run the dim build -- it will clear out all of the dimension.
Then take your other dim build rule file and use the same Remove Unspecified setting. That will get rid of the silly member. The source can be a file or SQL.
Ta da, you have now cleared out the dim, added a single silly member, cleared out the dim again, and loaded the right members into it.
There may be a better way to do the above, but I have done exactly that and it works.

EAS - Rule File SQL retrieval Issue
Hi All,
We are using EPM 11.1.2 I have created ODBC DSN connection to a oracle database using data direct 6.0 oracle wire protocol. Iam using the DSN connection in the rule file to retrieve the information from the database.
Currently the issue is that view has a filter condition to pull data greater than 2011 when I retrieve through the SQL client tools data retrieved is as per the filter condition and when I am retrieving the data from the same view thru EAS console it shows up information starting from 2008.
Even if I tried by applying the filters it didn't help me out
Why does EAS behave like this am I using correct driver ?
Please put on your ideas if you have faced this issue before.
Thanks in advance........I was not able to figure out this issue so I have created an ODI to update my dimensions.
Thanks .... -

Unable to generate SQL trace file on a 10.2.0.1.0 database
Hello,
I am unable to generate SQL trace files on a 10.2.0.1.0 database (OS is Win2003 server 64 bits).
First I tried the way I used to do it on older databases (8i and 9i) :
execute dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session(sid, serial#, true);
I got no error, but no file was created in the user dump dest directory.
Then I've been searching and I've tried other things :
- I changed the user_dump_dest parameter
- I changed the tracefiles_public parameter value to "true", by modifying the init.ora file
- I tried another package :
exec dbms_monitor.session_trace_enable(139)
Nothing worked, I can't create any trace file...
Does anyone have an idea about this issue ?
thank you for you help !
AntoineHello,
thank you all for replying.
I have 2 instances on this machine, and I've just realized that with the other one I have no problem to generate sql trace files as usual.
But why the hell is it impossible on the first instance ? What difference between the 2 instances can explain this ?
This is pretty weird...
Otherwise I am experiencing serious performance problems on the instance where I can't creat trace files, there must be something wrong with it, but I can't figure it out

Currently loading the data with the script , which it contatins
Retreving data from oracle through SQL interface on to rules files
and loading the data.
just my question is , if i get 0 records from oracle , i dont want to proceed with the loading of data (which is no useful ).
Can i stop the loading if records are zero.As far as I know there is nothing in MaxLIt that could tell that there were no rows.The MaxL statement would return a zero code saying that the process worked ok. It would be prossible in your batch script to have mutiple calls to MaxL and between them to do something like make a call to your sql DB getting the count of rows for your query. Investigate the result and if it is zero, then get out of your load and calc process (I guess you could do that even before you try to load).
Or how about scheduling a job that creates an output file with the count if it is greater than zero. If it is, then run the batch load process if it is not, then bypass it. There are multiple ways to do this outside of Essbase, just not in it. -
How to see the SQL used in an existing Rule file?

Is this possible: SQL Dataload with generic rule file?
Hello,
when loading a flat file into Essbase, one can define in the header the data load field names. In the data load, the dimension names are given and at the end the Data. In the rule file under Options > Data source properties > Header a reference to this line could be made. This works fine.
We want to load data with SQL in the same way. One load rule with a substitution variable for the view selection and we can use it for all data loads. We have specified the dimension names in the table column header. The data column was defined as "data" - without quotes.
The result so far is, it will not load.
The question is - does somebody tried this before and can help me on this?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Philip Hulsebosch
www.trexco.nlthe data column can be repersented in multiple ways, the way I typically do it is to define it to the member it belongs to. In my example where your substitution variable &currmth is "Jan" then "Jan" would be the column name. Next month when the sub var changes to Feb, it is Feb.

Hi everyone,
I want to accomplish a task in TFS that I need to auto generate the database changes as SQL script file in drop folder for every build.
For ex.: If I add a table in a database and then check in the changes, I need to get that create table script in the drop folder as .sql file extension
I want to automate the build too for every check in. Help me out and guide me a step by step procedure because since I am new to TFS build in visual studio.
ThanksCheck out SSDT:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/tools.aspx
It can generate a DACPAC which can be used to update a SQL Database through the commandline. To ensure that the .sql file executed is compatible with the target database schema it contains a compiled version of teh schema and will generate the change script
on-the-fly.
If you want, you call SqlPackage,exe to generate a SQL script if you want to inspect it before executing.

Migrate sql server dump file to Oracle database on a network
I have a sql server dump file provided to me by DBA's. I have to migrate this dump file to Oracle database on a network. Please suggest me the steps to do this.

That would be a text file with around 100 records. I have migrate those records to oracle database. The firewall constraints doesn't allow me to create a link to that database. Will Migration workbench would be apt for this case. How can i capture the database offline in this case ?
regardless of the tool/technique you use, those bits have to get from machine running sqlserver to the machine running Oracle. Either over the network (through the firewall) or via 'sneakernet.' What, exactly, are the firewall constraints?
If the export is a simple text file (character delimited fields? fixed length fields?) and only 100 records ... Migration Workbench may be overkill, perhaps a simple sqlldr job. But you still have to get the bits from 'there' to 'here'.

BTW, it would be really helpful if you would go to your profile and give yourself a recognizable name. It doesn't have to be your real name, just something that looks like a real name. Who says my name is really Ed Stevens? But at least when people see that on a message they have a recognizable identity. Unlike the system generated name of 'ed0f625b-6857-4956-9b66-da280b7cf3a2', which is like going to the pub with a bag over your head. -
Do we need run catbundle.sql file for new databases.
dear all,
i have doubt over execution of catbundle.sql or not?
scenario:
i have insatlled 10gr2 on rhel5 and applied patchset 4 (10.2.0.5) and applied Oracle® Database Patch 10248542 - 10.2.0.5.2 Patch Set Update
after this i have create fresh database.
now,
in Oracle® Database Patch 10248542 - 10.2.0.5.2 Patch Set Update document it has specified in belwo section
3.4 Post Installation Instructions for Databases Created or Upgraded after Installation of PSU 10.2.0.5.2 in the Oracle Home
These instructions are for a database that is created or upgraded after the installation of PSU 10.2.0.5.2.
You must execute the steps in Section 3.3.2, "Loading Modified SQL Files into the Database" for any new database only if it was created by any of the following methods:
Using DBCA (Database Configuration Assistant) to select a sample database (General, Data Warehouse, Transaction Processing)
Using a script that was created by DBCA that creates a database from a sample database
Cloning a database that was created by either of the two preceding methods, and if the steps in Section 3.3.2, "Loading Modified SQL Files into the Database" were not executed after PSU 10.2.0.5.2 was applied
Upgraded databases do not require any post-installation steps.
so do we need to run catbundle here or not.
since i have created fresh database after applying 10.2.0.5 PSU2 why does it required.
