Sql server analysis server - cube hierarchy - Hide ALL without disabling ISAGGREGATE to false
Hi,
In Cube custom hierarchy, I have made ISAGGREGATABLE to TRUE inorder to make non-aggregatable error to resolve, Now ALL appears at top level - but I need to hide this without changing the property back to FALSE. Any workaround ?
Thanks in Advance ,

Can BO Universe extracted data to a SQL Server Analysis Services Cube
Hello,
I have a situation where all the business rules and aggregations are defined in the BO Universe layer, however now they want to create cubes in SSAS (Sql Server Analysis Services) and create dashboards using Microsoft technology.
I am not sure if data and business rules including Hierarchies can be extracted from the BO universe to SSAS. Any thoughts and suggesstions.
APHi,
This is not provided out of the box but you can develop a custom application using Designer SDK.

Sql Server Analysis Server Filter Connection Issue
Hi All,
I am using Sql Server Analysis Web-part and when I try to give connection to Connection I am not getting any options to give connection as below.Can any one help me how can I solve this
Thanks, Quality Communication Provides Quality Work. http://siddiq-sharepoint2010.blogspot.in/ Siddiqali Mohammad .and where is the filter supposed to get its values from?
SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Filter
This filter allows you to select a data connection from a Web Part on the current Web Part page or from a SharePoint Data Connection library or Office Data Connection library. You then specify a dimension and hierarchy (and something displays on the Web Part
page for the user.)

How to connect to ms sql server analysis server
I am interested to learn how to use the sql server olap technology
--can any one help?
and also i need how to connect to the analysis server and get data from the cubes.
is there a demo available...possibly a demo application as well?
or site that shows or uses OLAP technology using java.
thanx in advance
ashokI was thinking about how to achieve that. But I have not found any opensource JDBC driver or package that provides the feature you are looking for.
However there is still a change of building some kind of bridge through web services. You could implement a web service with the .NET framework, exposing whichever you need of MS Analysis service to a Java WS client.
Good luck -
HI
how to do analysis server clustering
we have sharepoint bi site and we published many dashboards pointers ,filters kpis
and at a time some 200 to 300 concurrent users access these dashboards pages
so for maintain this requirement how we apply clustering for ssas intances
and also it has load balancing
adilHi Adil,
According to your description, you want to implement SQL Server Analysis Services Clusster and Analysis Services Load Balancing, right?
In SSAS, we can design highly available solutions in Analysis Services by using: network load balancing (NLB) technologies, failover clustering technologies, or both. For the details about implemention, please refer to the links below.

SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) 2012 High Availability Solution in Azure VM
I have been testing an AlwaysOn high availability failover solution in SQL Server Enterprise on an Azure VM, and this works pretty well as a failover for SQL Server Databases, but I also need a high availability solution for SQL Server
Analysis Server, and so far I haven't found a way to do this. I can load balance it between two machines, but this isn't working as a failover and because of the restriction of not being able to use shared storage in a Failover Cluster in Azure
VM's, I can't set it up as a cluster which is required for AlwaysOn in Analysis Services.
Anyone else found a solution to use an AlwaysOn High Availability for SQL Analysis Services in Azure VM? As my databases are read-only, I would be satisfied with even just a solution that would sync the OLAP databases and switch
the data connection to the same server as the SQL databases.
Thanks!
BillBill,
So, what you need is a model like SQL Server failover cluster instances. (before sql server 2012)
In SQL Server 2012, AlwaysOn replaces SQL Server failover cluster, and it has been seperated to
AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances (SQL Server) and
AlwaysOn Availability Groups (SQL Server).
Since your requirement is not in database level, I think the best option is to use AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances (SQL Server).
As part of the SQL Server AlwaysOn offering, AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances leverages Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) functionality to provide local high availability through redundancy at the server-instance level—a
failover cluster instance (FCI). An FCI is a single instance of SQL Server that is installed across Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) nodes and, possibly, across multiple subnets. On the network, an FCI appears to be an instance of SQL
Server running on a single computer, but the FCI provides failover from one WSFC node to another if the current node becomes unavailable.
It is similar to SQL Server failover cluster in SQL 2008 R2 and before.

Allowing users access to SQL Server 2014 analysis server cubes
I am using SQL Server 2014 analysis server and have created a number of cubes. These all function as expected however it seems that only windows users who are in an
administrator group can get access. All other users are denied access with the very vague error of 'Communication error'.
If I then add that user to our administrators group within the windows domain they instantly get access. I have defined roles for each cube (within analysis services) and then added both individuals (i.e. their windows domain user id) as well as their windows
domain groups to these roles but they still cannot get access - just get the error 'Communication error'.
I am using ADOMD on the client side which I know works because users in the administrators group can see the data. I have granted cube permissions using Management studio however no matter what front end we use (either our own App or EXCEL) if the user in
question is NOT in the administrator group in the domain they cannot get access to any of the cubes.
Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated.Hamishr,
According to your description, you want to grant the access permission to cube for the users who are not belong to Administrator group, right?
By default, no one except a Server Administrator or Database Administrator has permission to query cubes in a database. Cube access by a non-administrator requires membership in a role created for the database containing the cube. Membership is supported
for Windows user or group accounts, defined in either Active Directory or on the local computer. So in your scenario, please ensure the steps to grant permission are correct, you can refer to the link below check it.

Browsing cube throu SQL manager works fine.
But when I try to access cube any other way, it fails.Connection throu Exel lets me see database but cube window is empty.
Same happens when I try making connection throu Data Tools.
So I can see and browse cube only throu manager, other connections let me see database but cannot see cube.
All user have access set right and same happens when I try to make connection with administrator account.
Mustafa ToromanHi Mustafa,
According to your description, the cube name was not listed when connecting to SQL Server Analysis Services database using Microsoft Excel, right?
Based on my tested, the issue can be casued by that the cube Visible property was set to False. After change it to True, I can see the cube when connecting it in Excel. Please refer to the steps below to set the cube Visible property to True.
Open the Cube
In the Cube Structure window locate the Measures and select it.
In the Properties you will see a Visible property
Set it to True

Introduction
In SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), you can create a calculated measure in SQL Server Data Tool (SSDT)/Boniness Integrated Development Studio (BIDS). Sometimes you may need to create calculated measure by using AMO in a C# or VB project.
In this article, I will demonstrate so how to create calculated measure using AMO in SSAS?
Prerequisites
Before create calculated measure using AMO, you need to ensure that the following components were installed in your server.
The multidimensional database AdventureWorks Multidimensional Model 2012
A SQL Server with SSIS and SSAS installed
The AMO libraries installed:
X86 Package (SQL_AS_AMO.msi)
X64 Package (SQL_AS_AMO.msi)
Solution
Here is the detail steps to create calculated measure using AMO in SSAS.
Open SSDT and create a new SSIS project.
Drag Script Task to the design surface.
Click SSIS-> Variables to open the Variables window and add two variables that used to connect to the server and database.
Create a connection to connect to SSAS server.
Rename the connection name to ssas.
Double click the Script Task to open Script Task Editor.
Add Connection and Database variables to ReadWriteVariables textbox and then click Edit Script button.
Add AMO reference in the Solution Explore window.
Copy the script below and paste it into the script.
Dim objServer As Server
Dim objDatabase As Database
Dim strDataBaseID As String
Dim objCube As Cube
Dim objMdxScript As MdxScript
Dim objCommand As Command
Dim strCommand As String
objServer = New Server
objServer.Connect("localhost")
objDatabase = objServer.Databases("AdventureWorksDW2012Multidimensional-EE2")
strDataBaseID = objDatabase.ID
If objDatabase.Cubes.Count > 0 Then
objCube = objDatabase.Cubes("Adventure Works")
If objCube.MdxScripts.Count > 0 Then
objMdxScript = objCube.MdxScripts("MdxScript")
objMdxScript = objCube.MdxScripts(0)
Else
objCube.MdxScripts.Add("MdxScript", "MdxScript")
objMdxScript = objCube.MdxScripts("MdxScript")
End If
objCommand = New Command
strCommand = "CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measures].[Multipy Measures By 3]"
strCommand = strCommand & " AS [Measures].[Internet Sales Amount] * 3, "
strCommand = strCommand & " VISIBLE = 1 ; "
objCommand.Text = strCommand
objMdxScript.Commands.Add(objCommand)
objMdxScript.Update()
objCube.Update()
End If
objServer.Disconnect()
Then you can run this SSIS package to create the calculated measure.
Applies to
Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Microsoft SQL Server 2008
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
Microsoft SQL Server 2012
Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.Thanks,
Is this a supported scenario, or does it use unsupported features?
For example, can we call exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
in a supported way?

Service Manager Data Warehouse Install - Analysis Server Configuration For OLAP Cubes Fail
Hello everyone,
I have an issue with my installation of the Data Warehouse for System Center Service Manager 2012 SP1.
My install environment is the following:
Windows Server 2012 – System Center Service Manager (Successfully Installed) - Virtual
Windows Server 2012 – System Center Data Warehouse (Pending) - Virtual
Windows Server 2012 – MS SQL Server 2012 – Physical, Clustered 1st of Four Servers
The SQL Server is a clustered installation with named instances, specifically for SharePoint and Service Manager. Each instance has its own IP address and dynamic ports are turned off. I’m installing using the domain administrator account and I also chose
to run the installer as administrator. The domain admin has sysadmin rights to the service manager server and instance I’m trying to install on. However, the account does not have sysadmin rights to some of the other instances.
The install is smooth up until it needs to connect to the Analysis server database. I have tried connecting to the analysis servers on other SQL servers on site and all were successful. The only difference between the older SQL servers, the SQL 2012 development
server and the SQL 2012 Production server I’m trying to install to is that the that the domain admin account doesn’t have sysadmin access on all the databases on the new production server. The SQL server is being installed and configured by a contractor so
if you all have troubleshooting suggestions, I’ll need to coordinate with the contractor.
Starting with the screen below, I began searching for help online. There seems to be no one else with this issue or it is not documented properly. I opened a ticket with MS, called the contractor and troubleshot with him, troubleshot as far as I could on
my own and I’m still at a loss as to what is preventing the installer from connecting specifically to the analysis server.
I first thought the installer was at issue or that the data warehouse sever was at issue. But all signs are pointing at the SQL server. The installer is able to connect to all the other SQL servers – including other 2012 servers (same versions) – so it can’t
be the installer. I’m pretty sure the SQL server is going to be at issue.
After looking at this error, I opened the resource monitor and clicked the dropdown to see if it was trying to connect to the correct server and it was. I then connected to the old and new test and development servers successfully. Then connected to the
SQL 2008 R2 production cluster successfully. I then compared the two servers. The only difference other than the version numbers is that the admin account doesn’t have sysadmin rights on all the SQL 2012 database servers. But the database servers are not the
problem. The analysis servers are.
I then checked the event logs and they are empty as far as this issue is concerned. Actually, there are no errors on the SQL 2012 production box and the Data Warehouse box. I then checked the log that the installer creates during every step of the installation
and this is what is created when the dropdown is clicked for the analysis server configuration screen. The log file location is:
“C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp\2\SCSMSetupWizard01.txt”
In the file is the following text.

Creating OLAP report with Crystal Reports and SQL Server Analysis Services 2005
Post Author: orahc_mao
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hi!
I am currently using the trial version of the Crystal Reports XI and I wanted to do an OLAP report. The problem is I cannot select a cube using "OLAP Connection Browser" (the popup window). I already selected Microsoft OLE DB Provider and entered the server name but still can't connect.
I don't think the problem is with SQL Server Analysis Services (2005) since Microsoft Excel - Import Data can detect the server as well as the cube I have created.
I also tried the "Database Expert" of Crystal Reports, created an OLE DB (ADO) connection with "OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services 8.0" driver, entered the server name, checked the integrated security and then I can readily select the database created at SQL Server Analysis Services. However, I still need the OLAP grid create the report but it goes back to my original problem... selecting a cube.
I hope somebody would help me with this issue.
Thanks a lot!
orahc_maoHello,
I don't recognize those variables as CR ones so it's likely something the original developer is setting in code.
You'll have to discuss with that person.
If your have SDK issues then post your question to one of the .NET or Java SDK forums.
Thank you

SSAS(SQl Server Analysis Services).
Hello Sir,
We have created an OLAP cube using Business Intelligence Development Studio(BIDS) with
SQL Server Analysis Services(SSAS) using our data Source which is working fine & for reporting we are connecting the cube with
MS-Excel through data Connections & we are able to generate the reports with the cube data by filtering & Customizing according to the requirement of reports within the same server instance. But when we want to deploy the cube onto
the different server (basically on users server) to generate the respective reports we are facing problem. As the end user is not going to have access to the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio how can we deploy the cube. As, we are using ODBC
connections.
As this is our first project through SSAS, we kindly need some support to proceed forward.
So, Please find the Queries related to the enclosed description as above.
Queries related to SSAS Cube:
What are the steps involved to deploy a OLAP cube created in one server to another server?
Is there any third party tool required for it?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Praveen.Hi Praveen,
The following link tells you what you need to know; -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms166576(v=sql.105).aspx
I confirm you do not need a third party tool to deploy a cube and empower your users to access this cube.
So in summary; -
Within your Analysis Services solution within BIDs; -
1) Right click your mouse over the Analysis Services database icon, which is immediately below the solution icon.
2) Select the sub tab "Deployment".
3) Enter the name of the server you need to deploy to.
4) Click "OK".
5) Right click your mouse (again) over the Analysis Services database icon, which is immediately below the solution icon.
6) Select "Deploy"

SQL Server analysis service command does not retry in agent job
Hello,
I'm working on SQL Server 2008 R2 version. I have scheduled a SQL server agent job to process analysis service cube using an analysis service command. Sometimes this job fails due to network load. So I set this job to retry 2 times after 10 mins interval.
There were no retry attempts when job failed. There was no error message.
I simulated this scenario using simple analysis service command which I intentionally set to fail. That's right. It's not retrying for analysis service commands. Any workaround for this ? any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.Hi Anush87,
In your scenario, you had set that the step to retry 2 times after 10 mins interval. However, there were no any retry attempts when job failed, and you can reproduce this issue, right?
Since there is no any error message, it's hard to give you the root reason that cause this issue. Based on my research, so many other people had encountered this issue which you can see on the link below
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/543acccb-f107-420b-9652-53856c9137bb/sql-server-agent-job-retry-not-working?forum=sqldatabaseengine, you can you can submit a feedback at the link below
http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback
So that Microsoft will confirm that if this issue is a bug in SQL Server Agent job.
However, in order to troubleshoot this issue, you can query Agent job information to ensure the job configure settings are correct, you can refer to the link below to check it.

http://www.sqlservercentral.com/blogs/hugo/2009/05/27/configuring-auto-retry-on-sql-server-agent/
Hope this helps.
