SQL Server BI Rules !

I regret to inform oracle that I have forced my manager to pursue " SQL Server BI which is far far far better than OBIEE and cheaper "
Oracle doesn't have a resource for people to learn the tool other than taking their training except people who have written blogs and I really appreciate those people who have taken the effort but What is Oracle doing out there ???
They have a documentation on their website which talks about building a simple dashboard but who is going to talk about the advanced level............... Fk with that ! They are forcing people to take training with them which cost another 7500$ for which I could buy 50 SQL Server BI licenses.
If anyone is planning to pursue OBIEE , I would say go ahead if you have money to throw out. But If someone is thinking about having a dashboard up and running with lost cost and high resources of learning materials both online and books available...then go ahead with SQL Server BI.
I have nothing to do with Microsoft....I have given up on OBIEE and moreover Microsoft licensing is far far cheaper than OBIEE.
I am a big fan of Oracle but slowly leaning towards to Microsoft....
Vola !

I like Oracle's platform.....I just wish it was more interactive. It seems like all of our users have to have access to Answers to do any type of real analysis. Column selectors and View selectors help, but Oracle needs to offer more flexibility with their reporting from an everyday user's perspective.
Microsoft is great and cheap...but I'm not sold on their tool set at an enterprise level. For small companies the SQL Server package should work great. But the advanced reporting is just not there yet. Microsoft and Oracle are both falling behind Business Objects and Microstrategy on interactive, advanced visualizations BI.

Hello ,
You are trying to upgrade to SQL 2012 standard edition which is not supported .you can only upgrade from SQL server 2008 R2 Sp2 Enterprise edition to SQL 2012 Enterprise or business intellgience. see below link for supported upgrade paths
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx
If you want to move ahead you should try Side by side approach.Create new SQL server 2012 box and restore backup.

• Calling PL/SQL from Server Side Rule

Hi there,
I'm wanting to call a PL/SQL procedure from a server side rule created within collaboration suite using the oesrl command line utility. I have seen examples of the XML rule which should do this together with the appropriate PL/SQL
<account qualifiedName="UM_SYSTEM" ownerType="system">
<rulelist event="relay">
<rule description="Retention Rule" active="yes">
<condition negation="no" junction="and">
<condition>
<attribute tag="rfc822to"/>
<operator caseSensitive="no" op="contains"/>
<operand>instigate.com</operand>
</condition>
</condition>
<action>
<command tag="call"/>
<parameter>RulesPackage.archive_message</parameter>
<parameter>test1</parameter>
<parameter>Archive</parameter>
</action>
</rule>
</rulelist>
</account>
The above should call the Procedure RulesPackage.archive_message when an email to anyone at instigate.com arrives in OCS. I have written and tested an appropriate package. However, I have been unable to get the rule to execute and call my PL/SQL when I send an email to trigger it.
I have written rules which do not invoke external packages without any trouble.
I believe the problem is that I need to register the PL/SQL package with the rules engine somehow, before the rule can find it, but I am uncertain how to do this, or even if that is indeed what I need to do.
Any help would be most appreciated as the documentation doesn't go into too much detail.
I am using OCS R2.
Regards
Oliver

Could you please check the structure of the procedure "RulesPackage.archive_message" ? It may fail due to procedure structure.
The structure should be similar to the below example
PROCEDURE archive_message
(p_event IN NUMBER,
p_sessionid IN NUMBER,
p_msgobj IN es_mail.mail_message_obj,
p_param1 IN VARCHAR2,
p_param2 IN VARCHAR2,
p_status OUT NUMBER) AS
BEGIN
/* Code for Archving */
END;

• Connect SharePoint to SQL Server Database Then Build Rules Based Returns System

Hello Guys,
I work for an ecommerce business. We sell a wide range of products to customers all around the world which are ordered from our websites and then dispatched to our customers from our warehouses.
I have been tasked with developing a computerised return system from the company because at the moment everything is done using paper forms.
We have all our customer, order and product data within SQL Server databases.
What I would like to know is...
1. Can we connect sharepoint online to a local sql server database
2. Could we then build searches within sharepoint to display data contained within these databases e.g. customer information etc
3. How is the data presented in sharepoint - is there a way to design how the data is displayed within sharepoint etc?
4. Can we then build a rules based return system within sharepoint? The on screen workflow would need to vary according to data contained within the database e.g. the weight if the product being returned and also on fields input by the service agent such
as the reason for the return, what solution the customer would like etc.
5. is it possible to build these workflows in such a way that they can be saved part way through then gone back to later
6. Can reports be build based on the returns that are being generated e.g. list of products most commonly returned
Sorry for all the questions, I am a bit of sharepoint novice. I think it may possible be able to do what we need but I just wondered if the answer to any of the above questions is definately a no because if it is that could mean it is not suitable
Thanks

You could use a BCS connection
http://community.office365.com/en-us/b/office_365_community_blog/archive/2012/10/11/business-data-connectivity-services-in-office-365-sharepoint-online.aspx, this will allow you to edit data in your non SharePoint SQL DB, on premises, from Office 365 SharePoint.
Search will index the web applications you point it at, and the lists from the BCS will be part of those web apps, site collections, sites at some place and will get indexed.
You can create views on the data, that can sort of work like a search, but when you search on the site where the lists are the query will return results based on the BCS data.
These views can be based on criteria such as the weight of the product being returned and other fields.
The data is presented as a list.
You can make it read only or read-write based on SharePoint permissions on the list. The account used to create the connection can edit.
BCS is possible in on-premises SharePoint too
here is a good read on it,

• Association rule in SQL Server Data Mining

I have been working on a problem on association rules in SQL Server Data Tools (Visual Studio 2008) for quite a while but have not yet been able to figure out the solution.
The problem is: I have a table named Sales_history in my SQL database. This table has following columns: CustomerID, ItemID, Month (from May2012 to April 2013), QtyShipped. I am looking to find association between Items and i want to provide recommendation
to the Customer (In this case CustomerID) based on their purchases.
Note: there are around 630 customers and about 34000 products in my table.
My approach:
I marked History_Table as both Key and nested. And in the Key, i checked CustomerID as input and Key whereas in nested, i checked ItemId as Key, input and Predict.
When i run the model, i get a solution but i am not sure if i am configuring it right. Also i am not sure how i can write prediction join query to generate Item recommendations . I am really struggling with
this problem, eagerly waiting for the reply. Thank you.

Hi Tatyana,
Thank you so much for your reply. I have now been able to create the data mining model using association rule and by writing a DMX query, i am able to generate the item recommendations to be given to customers for items they have purchased. However, i have
noticed one thing that in the DMX query, it gives the same item recommendation for any item i put inside the query.
Also, if i put any item in the DMX query from the generated list of recommended items, the output of that query also shows the item that is inputted inside the query.
Here is the query, that i am writing to generate item recommendations
SELECT predictassociation (CrossSellingModelV3.[Ztb Customer Item v3],INCLUDE_STATISTICS,5)
FROM CrossSellingModelV3
NATURAL PREDICTION JOIN
(SELECT
(SELECT '17IS56126' as m )
AS Ms)
AS t
What can be the possible reason behind this? Is this something related to the kind of data i have? In my data, there are 632 distinct customers and 34000 distinct products.
If i execute this query in management studio.
select customer_CD, COUNT(Item_CD) from ztb_Sales_History
group by customer_CD
order by 2 desc
the output shows that there are some customers who have bought just 1 item and also there are customers who have bought 2400 items. i mean the range is very high.

• Is 'SQLCMD.EXE' the SQL Server 2008 executable to be added to a Firewall 'Inbound Rule' to allow remote access?

I would like to add a new Firewall 'Inbound Rule' to allow remote access by
SQL Server 2008.
SQL Server Management Studio shows two TCP/IP instances, both of which are Enabled.
One uses port 1433 and the other uses ‘TCP Dynamic Ports’.
In SQL Server, the server has ‘Allow remote connections to this server’ checked.
My Firewall allows port 1433 for the one TCP/IP instance.
Since the other instance is dynamic, I would like to add a new
Firewall 'Inbound Rule' to allow the SQL Server executable to run.
I’ve read that the SQL Server executable is commonly named SQLSERVR.EXE, but there is no such file on my laptop.
I’m assuming the executable that needs to be added to the Firewall 'Inbound Rule'
is SQLCMD.EXE (in the path C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn).
Can anyone please confirm this? (I'm running Windows 7). Thanks.

Hi Bontrager,
Firstly, please run
Discovery Report to the detect the existing SQL Server 2008 instance. If SQL Server 2008 is installed properly on your machine, the sqlservr.exe should exists in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.<instance_name>\MSSQL\Binn.
Secondly, if SQL Server 2008 is configured to use dynamic port, it is difficult to configure the firewall to enable access to the correct port number because the port selected might change every time that the Database Engine is started.
Therefore, if a firewall is used, please reconfigure the SQL Server 2008 to use the static TCP port by using SQL Server 2008 Configuration Manager.
For more information, please review this
article. After that, you can add the port number in firewall inbound rule.
Thirdly, if you want to connect to SQL Server 2008 from outside the firewall by instance name, SQL Server Browser should be turned on and you'll have to allow the SQL Server Browser through the firewall, which is UDP port 1434.

• What is the rule about installing SQL server 2000

I'm a bit confused if which of the two is the best that i can do:
1. install MS SQL 2000 to R/3 Apllication Box per box
or
2. install MS SQL 2000 in 1 box and link the r/3 Applications form it?
im using SAP 4.6.c. I dont know what should i do... is it REALLY required that the MSSQL 2000 be installed per box (DEV, PRD, DB, etc.)?

Hi Michael,
it is possible to have just one DB server with different DBs (DEV, QAS, PRD) on it. You have to decide if you install your DBs in one instance of SQL Server or if you install named instances - e.g. one instance for DEV, one instance for QAS and so on. If you have all DBs in one instance they all share the same ressources like processors, buffers etc. That means that your possibilities to tune such a system are limited. Also if you have to stop the instance (e.g. for Support Packages or patches) all SAP Systems are not available.
On a box with named instances you can distribute the server ressources among those instances. For example the DEV instance gets 512 MB of RAM and may use 2 processors. The PRD instance gets 2 GB of RAM and may use 6 processors. You can stop and patch each instance individually.
But if I understand your post correctly you work in an 32 Bit environment. In such a case I would never recommend putting PRD with DEV and QAS on one database server. For DEV and QAS a Cental System (SQL Server and SAP on the same server) is usually the right choice. For production you might want to install the Database Instance on a separate server and the Central Instance on a separate server. For scalability reasons you can then add as many Dialog Instances as necessary.
But always keep in mind, you only have ONE Database Instance per SAP system! You can install many Dialog Instances connected to that Database Instance. That means your database is the 'heart' of you SAP system and should be treated that way.

Sven

i have error on install sql r2 there are problems in cluster node its failed on windows 8

Hi ,
Before you install SQL Server on a computer that is running Windows 8, about Microsoft SQL Server 2008 , you must apply and install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 or a later after the initial setup is complete. To install a SQL Server failover
cluster, you must create and configure a failover cluster instance by running SQL Server setup. For more information, see:

Hi,
I would like to add that if you see summary.txt file you would see
Message:
Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1).
error CS0009: Metadata file 'c:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System\2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089\System.dll' could not be opened -- 'File is corrupt'
HResult : 0x84b10001
FacilityCode : 1201 (4b1)
ErrorCode : 1 (0001)
You can see file is corrupt. So either you have to download the setup file again or there can be chance that Antivirus caused some issue.
Plus if you see starting of summary.txt you could see
Requested action: LandingPage
The error message came while landing page was being loaded/or was in action so again I think it is some thing related to corrupt media or antivirus.
Please
1. Download ISO file again and extract using WINRAR, don't use Winzip
2. Disable Antivirus.
3. Make a new folder and extract installable there.
Please mark this reply as answer if it solved your issue or vote as helpful if it helped so that other forum members can benefit from it
