Sql Server configuration requirements for SAP ECC 6.0

Dear  All,
I am using Sql server 2005 Enterprise as data store for Sap ecc 6.0.There are certain configuration requirements to be done while installing it so that sapinst.exe (sap installer) is able to use it to create its own DB's.
For eg it requires a collation of SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2 whereas the default that gets installed is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.
Like this there are other requirements which I am not aware of.Most of the docs available on the Internet are talking of ecc 6.0  with Oracle 10.2G which is the most common combination.I am having docs for this combination.
I am installing ecc for the first time.
*I am unable to download docs from sap. marketplace as it requires a login given to certified users or sap purchasers.I am neither.*
Can anyone help me with this.If anyone has ECC 6.0 installation guide with sql server it will be serve my purpose.
Thanks for your efforts.

"Excuse me?
What he is doing is illegal , you know what that means, right? If you don't believe me, read the license that comes on the first installation DVD.
Actually, I even think it's kind of barefaced to ask in the forum of the software vendor for help! I mean, it's like asking in a bank forum how to rob and fraud the bank! You - and many others - may think that it's right and ok to do that. I tell you: it is not. Not for "home use", not for personal use, not at all.
You can use the software available here in the SDN to lean and study, that's why it's there.
If you deal at all with copied software, then just be smart enough to make other people not notice. He can be happy if he's not prosecuted (which would legally be possible)."
Do u understand what is legal or illegal? Have u read the license in full?
The license does not put any limit on the number of users. So if I am using it means that one more user has been added by the license holder.
Therefore there is nothing illegal about it.
It would have unethical (not illegal) if the software is being used for a business purpose other than for which it has been purchased.
Since it being used for training purpose the above does not hold good.
In fact it is SAP who is benefited in the long run bec' after a person learns it technology because  he is going to implement it somewhere, for which the concerned user will have to purchase a license. Therefore I am helping SAP to increase its business.
But there are some stupid people who don't understand these things but are ready to shout at the top of their voice thinking themselves to be intelligent.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express for SAP BO BI 4.0

    Dear Experts,
I am curently installing a SAP BO BI 4.0 with the bundle database, and after watching the thread  10610337 and http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/product-info/compare.aspx I am wondering if the SQL server express is sufficient for a usage of BI .(we will also add on this instance the Data Services)
I don't know how the data are stored (is that like BW ?) and if it will need a large disk space ?
According to your experience, are the 10 Gb database space of SQL express are ok for a development environment ?
    Best Regards,
    Thibaud.

The bundled DB with BI4.0 is provided as a sample and as a means to quickly deploy product.
You should use your company standard DB solution for any serious BI4.0 deployment.
The bundled DB should be enough for Development or test/sandbox type of deployments.
As to the required size - it depends on what and how exactly you're going to use it - without a proper Sizing exersize it is impossible to say.
see sizing section on SMP for more details on that.

  • Size of SQL Server 2005 Database for SAP B1 2005 B is heavy

    Hi all,
In my company we are working with SAP B1 2005 B SP 25.
Our Database is in SQL Server 2005. Its Size reaches 6 GB in less then two years periods.
Can Any body guide me to reduce the size or how to maintain database. Can we split Database in SAP B1 ?
Due to the size users getting less speed
Awaiting your valuable guidance for the same.
    Best Regards,
    Chintesh Soni

    Hi Chintesh,
I would advise caution doing any of the things suggested in SAP Note 548772. In particular, I strongly recommend you do NOT set auto-shrink on. This is a really bad idea on a production database and I can't understand why SAP would suggest it.
Is it the data file that is 6GB or the overall size of the database (ie data and log files)? If your log file is large  then this can slow performance. I recommend setting up transaction log backups on an hourly basis. This is good practice and not only keeps the log file healthy but also gives you the option to recover your data to the last transaction log backup in the case of an emergency. If you don't want transaction log backups then do as the SAP note mentions and set the recovery model to simple and do a once-off truncation of the log file.
Are you doing regular maintenance on the database (ie rebuilding indexes, updating statistics)? Are you monitoring fragmentation on the data drive and doing a defrag occasionally to keep the drive healthy?
    Kind Regards,
    Owen

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise 4.0

    Hi Expert,
I'm going to install SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise 4.0 on my virtualized system (vmware) composed as: windows server 2008 Enterprise Edition R2 + Tomcat. I have some doubts related to the DB version to choose.
Due to the fact that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express is bundled with SAP BOE 4.0 I want to use this DB.
However, I saw in the Microsoft Portal that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express (http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/product-info/compare.aspx)  that:
    Number of CPUs     1
    Maximum memory utilized     1 GB
    Maximum database size     10 GB
    These my doubts:
    1) Could these characteristics  generate performance issues for a production environment?
    2) Which is a typical DB size for a production enviroment? could be greater then 10 GB?
    3) Can I use Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express  in a virtualized system (vmware)?
    Thanks in advance for collabortion
    regards
    gio'

    Hi Gio
Remember that the BOE system database (or repository) only has a few tables in it, with really one main table that stores a reference to each folder, report, user, group, server, etc. on the system. So the table and the database itself do not grow very large. In the past year, we have done over 70 SAP BusinessObjects projects and I can't recall one where the database size would even approach 5GB in total, let alone 10GB.
The reason for this is that the database only stores a reference to the physical objects and content within BOE-- the actual reports, universes, etc. are stored on the file system within the Input and Output file repository folders.
And the memory constraints are not really an issue either with BOE-- the database itself does not come under much strain during the day-to-day operation of the server. If you believe that the memory may be an issue, you can always start with SQL Server 2008 Express and then using the new tools in the 4.0 CMC to monitor the memory usage on the server. If you need to, you can move the system database to another SQL Server edition, or alternately move the database to another one of the supported platforms, including Oracle, DB2, etc.
    Hope this helps!
    regards
    David

  • Database backup strategy(MS sql server 2005, Winodws 2003, SAP ECC 6.00)

    Hello gurus,
I am confused, about the backup system i should go for(backup device, abckup software)?? Fllowing is my SAP Landscape.
    1) IDES
    2) Solution manager
    3) Development
    4) BIW
    no of users 25 max
    modules implemented
    MM
    HR
    FICO
    BIW
<b>    I want to implemente before go live, backup system in my company.</b>
We have received backup schedule from our implementation partner. Our backup system is as follows.
Backup device is HP Surestore Autoloader.
    Cartridge capacity is 100/200GB
Backup software is Veritas (version 8.6)
Note: Through this we take backup of our legacy system and it takes around 3 1/2 hour to 4 hours to take backup of 60 GB of our legacy data.
Right now the problem is our backup software version is old and i even believe, the hardware we have is not sufficient to take daily database backup and fortnightly, SAP system backup.
The only solution to the problem i can see is
    1) to go for another backup device exclusively for SAP system
    2) Even go for SQL Agent software used to take backup of SAP system thorugh Veritas.
    3) Even upgrade my Veritas version.
    <b>   Its a request to GURUS</b>
    1) Is the solution, i am thinking to this issue is correct.?? If no then please advice me
    2) Please tell me the best backup system in your opinion for my above mentioned system.
    Thanks Gurus
    Rahul

    Hello,
A indication of the size of each database would be helpful.
However, its NOT a good idea to take only one on line backup a week. What if you have a tape error and cant recover a TL? You have no chance for recovery. This is not best practice. Can the business except a 4,5 or even 6 days loss of data - id guess not.
This is what id do if you don't want to purchase a new device, I would take an online backups from SQL to disk every night - this would be a separate disk! From the disk you can the pick up the backup to take at a time to suit that wont impact the existing backup. Plus you always have two copies of the backup. One on disk, one on tape.
My normal transaction log strategy is similar, again backup to disk, every hour on a production system. Then after midnight move the existing 24 logs into an archive folder. This folder would also be picked up by the existing device at a suitable time before being moved to a 'saved' folder and deleted the next day. Again you always have multiple copies of the data. two on disk, two on tape.

During the installation, I would use the same <sidadm> existing as it is in the PRD.
If I tell you to install it during the same <sidadm> it will overwrite what already exists, or do I just enter the password of existing <sidadm>?

  • SQL ENTERPRISE: The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database

The error below makes absolutely no sense! I'm using Enterprise Core...yet I'm being told I can't use remote data sources:
w3wp!library!8!03/05/2015-19:08:48:: i INFO: Catalog SQL Server Edition = EnterpriseCore

    Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.;
Really? This totally contradicts the documentation found here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157285(v=sql.110).aspx
That article says remote connections are completely supported.
ARGH! Why does this have to be so difficult to setup?!?

    Hi jeffoliver1000,
According to your description, you are using Enterprise Core edition and you are prompted that you can’t use remote data sources.
In your scenario, we neither ignore your point nor be doubt with what you say. But actually we have met the case before that even though the SQL Server engine is Enterprise but the reporting services is still standard. So I would recommend you to find the
actual edition of reporting services you are using. You can find Reporting Services starting SKU in the Reporting Service logs ( default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles). For more information,
please refer to the similar thread below:

By the way, have you installed the other SQL Server edition before?

    Hi,
This 3rd time I followed this link. But nothing new, same error.
Can you please tell me how to do follow, I cannt do the 1st step, how to change the local system to windows level account, vice-versa. It is shown mine as
    Server Configuration Manager(Local)
From here I folllowed the steps ---[I cannt insert link/image :-(]
SQL 2008/R2 setup fails with "Wait on the database engine recovery handle failed"
If I right clicked on SQL Server Service, there is no option to change the account.
    Hello,
Thanks for your patience, did you tried stesp mentioned in below article
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/03/16/sql-2008-r2-setup-fails-with-quot-wait-on-the-database-engine-recovery-handle-failed-quot.aspx
To resolve it, follow these steps:-
When the installation throws this error, click on OK and allow it to proceed. It will fail for Database Engine, but the SQL Server service should have
been created. Check the Services console.
If the service is present, perform the following steps:-
    1. Go to SQL Server Configuration manager, right click on the SQL Server service, and change the service account (if it is local system, give
it a windows level account, and vice-versa). It might throw a WMI error but you will see the account getting updated anyway. If not, then use the Services console. Change the account for SQL Agent as well.
Use this link to change sql server service account
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345578.aspx
    2. Next, try to start the service. It should come online.
    3. However, you will not be able to log in to the SQL Server
    4. Now stop the service and start it from the command prompt using -m -c -T3608 parameters.
    5. Now try logging in to the server using admin connection from sqlcmd (sqlcmd admin:<server name>\<instance name> ...)
    6. Once logged in, use the sp_addsrvrolemember '<domain\username>','sysadmin'.
Also add the builtin/administrators to the sysadmin role
    7. Now stop the service from the command prompt and start it from SQL Server configuration manager
You should be able to log in to the server now.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Disaster Recovery For SAP ECC 6.0 On Oracle

    Hi All,
    This is our infrastructure
    Windows 2003 Server
    SAP ECC 6.0
    Oracle 10
    Legato Networker Client / Library
Actually our Backup Strategy is to do an Online Backup Every Night from monday to saturday. We want to test our backup by doing a Restore. We are assuming a complete loss of the system including hardware.
    What we do:
    1. Install the SAP System on a new host with the same hardware characteristic of the source system.
    2. Install & Configure the legato utility.
    3. Copy the E:\oracle\MIS\sapbackup\ directory from the source system to the test system.
    4. Them we put the database in mount mode.
    5. Execute the command: brrestore -b bdyxwoqv.fnf -m full  (bdyxwoqv.fnf-> Full Online Backup that was executed without problems).
    It gives the following errors:
BR0386E File 'F:\ORACLE\MIS\SAPDATA2\SR3_10\SR3.DATA10' reported as not found by
    backup utility
BR0386E File 'F:\ORACLE\MIS\SAPDATA3\SR3700_9\SR3700.DATA9' reported as not foun
    d by backup utility
    BR0280I BRRESTORE time stamp: 2008-10-01 17.45.19
    BR0279E Return code from 'backint -u MIS -f restore -i E:\oracle\MIS\sapbackup\.
    rdyybrzp.lst -t file -p E:\oracle\MIS\102\database\initMIS.utl': 2
BR0374E 0 of 63 files restored by backup utility
    BR0280I BRRESTORE time stamp: 2008-10-01 17.45.19
    BR0231E Backup utility call failed
    BR0406I End of file restore: rdyybrzp.rsb 2008-10-01 17.45.19
    BR0280I BRRESTORE time stamp: 2008-10-01 17.45.19
    BR0404I BRRESTORE terminated with errors
Since this is a new SAP system it never will find the SAPDATA files because they where on the source system and this is a new test system.
    We found the following note:
96848 Disaster recovery for SAP R/3 on Oracle
But this note is for SAP R/3 no for SAP ECC!
It explain that you have to install your SAP system with the System Copy Method (is this the only way??).
2.) Installation of the R/3 System
The installation of SAP software contains the software installation of the database. The initial SAP database should be created again but the SAP data should not be loaded.
Install the SAP system with the Oracle-specific system copy method, which is based on backup/restore. This method is described in the system copy guide for your Product/Release. Refer to Note 659509 for products that are based on Web AS.
    3.) Modification of the installation
Above all, you must take into account the mounted file systems at the time of the loss. If necessary create new SAPDATA directories (mount points). These generally identify a disk or a logical storage area (logical volume).
Are we working in the right way? maybe there is a formal procedure to do a Restore from an Online backup when you complete loss your system.
    Please some tips.
    Best Regards,
    Erick Ilarraza

    Hi Eric,
Thanks a lot for your reply, I will follow the Note 96848 Disaster recovery for SAP R/3 on ORACLE point 5.
5.) Restore profile and log files, as you sayed in case of disaster we will lost our "source" system.
On the other hand to configure the legato client we take care of the name of the server, we configured the .sap, .cfg and .utl files so in theory the restore will be done on the new test system since we run the brrestore command from that system.
Officially there is not a documentation from SAP to do a Restore from a Online Backup with SAP ECC, SAP Netweaver (ABAP / ABAP + Java). You only have the 96848 note??? I found the following information:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/65/cade3bd0c8545ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm
But there is not a official procedure like a System Copy Guide or Installation Guide.
    Best Regards,
    Erick Ilarraza

  • Regarding Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC (2.2.0019)

I have downloaded and installed Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC (2.2.0019). Now i have to configure it for my development purpose. Can i use this driver for my development purpose or not. If yes does it create any kind of problem in future when i change the platform. My development should not depend on driver and database.
Can i use any other driver provided by sun microsystem. If yes let me know where can i download and configure it.
    Waiting for the updates ASAP

See, the bridge, being a type 1 driver has
river has all the inherent limitations of that type
drivers, due to the extra levels the data must
passthrough inthe journey between the DB and the
client. Also the use of native code.. makes it
unsuitable to be used in applets.. the odbc should be
configured in the client for this driver to work. etc.
    etc.
It may be stable and useful for some
for some applications.. but for sccenarios where one
needs the solution tobe platform independent, ...By definition that would be the case. Of course the odbc-bridge does work on Windows, Solaris and Linux. So what other platform were you thinking about?
... less dependent on the user configuration,The bridge doesn't need any configuration. Or at least not any more than any other driver. The ODBC driver of course does need configuration.
...needs the minimum preparations from theuser, and above all give
the fastest response time for him, the bridge cannot
beat type 4 drivers. You are going to have to provide a link for that particular performance quote. Given that performance is impact most severely by requirements then design and finally by round trip time to the database I doubt that for applications (rather than benchmarks) that any difference is going to be significant.
the problem i think was my use of
my use of 'commercial' that u pointed out..
anyway.. u are of course right if what u intended was
stability only. but what i intended with that word was
different .. sorry for creating the confusion.
And it still seems like you are implying that it is not suitable for deployment in production systems. And as I pointed out I did deploy it in a large scale production system.
I am not saying that type 4 drivers do not have a place nor that they do not have advantages, but their mere existance does not prove that they are a better choice for all installations.

  • File system for SAP ECC, EP , BI and CRM installation on Solaris/DB2

    Hello,
We are going to implement SAP ECC 6.0 with EP 7, BI and CRM on Solaris operating system with IBM DB2 database.
All these applications are going to be installed on single server, as being a basis person, I know this is not all recommended.
But due to client's requirement and keeping cost factor in mind I need to install all these application on single box.
Now here I need your help. as I basis person, I know the required Solaris file system for SAP ECC 6.0 but not having any Idea about other application like EP/ CRM and BI .
If anyone able to help me with required Solaris file system. it will be great help.
Please let me know if there is any query.
    Thanks.

    > All these applications are going to be installed on single server, as being a basis person, I know this is not all recommended.
    > But due to client's requirement and keeping cost factor in mind I need to install all these application on single box.
Why not using Solaris zones/container? This decreases the administrative amount tremendeously since you will deal as with "single machines" but they all run together on one box.
    > Now here I need your help. as I basis person, I know the required Solaris file system for SAP ECC 6.0 but not having any Idea about other application like EP/ CRM and BI .
So you'd need to read the installation guides
