SQL services use 100% Harddisk when queries

I developed  my own app to query the data from MSSQL
I use MSSQL 2008 R2
when I run the query in MSSMS, it's work fine and has very fast response
but when I run with C# application (integrated query inside).
it take about 5000ms for 1 query and when I exterminate the task manager, I found that the services of my database engine using disk load about 5-7 MB/s (but the % is 100%)
after some experiment. I found out that if I want to make the query faster in my C# app, I have to open the MSSMS "together" (and make any select top 1000) with my query in C# app
anyone know what is MSSMS do to increase the performance of any running services?
**Note that it happens only some PC not all of them.

>but when I run with C# application (integrated query inside).
It is better to write server side stored procedures and call them from client C# apps.
BOL: "Benefits of Using Stored Procedures
The following list describes some benefits of using procedures.
Reduced server/client network traffic
The commands in a procedure are executed as a single batch of code. This can significantly reduce network traffic between the server and client because only the call to execute the procedure is sent across the network. Without the code encapsulation provided
by a procedure, every individual line of code would have to cross the network.
Stronger security
Multiple users and client programs can perform operations on underlying database objects through a procedure, even if the users and programs do not have direct permissions on those underlying objects. The procedure controls what processes and activities
are performed and protects the underlying database objects. This eliminates the requirement to grant permissions at the individual object level and simplifies the security layers.
The EXECUTE AS
clause can be specified in the CREATE PROCEDURE statement to enable impersonating another user, or enable users or applications to perform certain database activities without needing direct permissions on the underlying objects and commands. For example,
some actions such as TRUNCATE TABLE, do not have grantable permissions. To execute TRUNCATE TABLE, the user must have ALTER permissions on the specified table. Granting a user ALTER permissions on a table may not be ideal because the user will effectively
have permissions well beyond the ability to truncate a table. By incorporating the TRUNCATE TABLE statement in a module and specifying that module execute as a user who has permissions to modify the table, you can extend the permissions to truncate the table
to the user that you grant EXECUTE permissions on the module.
When calling a procedure over the network, only the call to execute the procedure is visible. Therefore, malicious users cannot see table and database object names, embed Transact-SQL statements of their own, or search for critical data.
Using procedure parameters helps guard against SQL injection attacks. Since parameter input is treated as a literal value and not as executable code, it is more difficult for an attacker to insert a command into the Transact-SQL statement(s) inside
the procedure and compromise security.
Procedures can be encrypted, helping to obfuscate the source code. For more information, see SQL Server Encryption.
Reuse of code
The code for any repetitious database operation is the perfect candidate for encapsulation in procedures. This eliminates needless rewrites of the same code, decreases code inconsistency, and allows the code to be accessed and executed by any user or application
possessing the necessary permissions.
Easier maintenance
When client applications call procedures and keep database operations in the data tier, only the procedures must be updated for any changes in the underlying database. The application tier remains separate and does not have to know how about any changes
to database layouts, relationships, or processes.
Improved performance
By default, a procedure compiles the first time it is executed and creates an execution plan that is reused for subsequent executions. Since the query processor does not have to create a new plan, it typically takes less time to process the procedure.
If there has been significant change to the tables or data referenced by the procedure, the precompiled plan may actually cause the procedure to perform slower. In this case, recompiling the procedure and forcing a new execution plan can improve performance.

  • 10.5.0.142 upgrade now itunes services using 100% cpu

    My itunes has updated a couple of days back and since then I've been unable to synch my iphone 4 AND more importantly my laptop is running really slow. I checked and AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is utilising 50% of cpu. Even without itunes open! If I launch Itunes then I'm up to 100% and my laptop becomes unuseable. I've tried reinstalling to previous versions of itunes but because the libarry has been upgraded to 10.5 previous versions of Itunes wont work with my library.
    I can terminate the cpu hungry process and gain control of my laptop but now I can't synch my iphone and working with itunes is very slow.
    Clearly something's not right and it all appears to have happened as a result of the last update.
    Interestingly, when I retroinstalled previous versions of Itunes AppleMobileDeviceService.exe did not appear to be present or if it was it was using so little resource it wasn't showing on the listings of services that were using resource.
    My laptop is Windows 7 SP1 with latest updates applied.
    Similar problems seem to be plaguing alot of users since the end of September???
    This looks like and Apple issue?
    Anyone had this as well and resolved it?

    Fixed. Downgraded to 10.4.0.8 with clean 10.4.0.8 library.
    Lost my music content which I'm happy to rip again but many wouldn't.
    Iphone synching perfectly.
    CPU utilisation with iTunes and applemobiledeviceservice.exe running below 10%
    BINGO!
    So there we have it, 10.4.0.8 is perfectly fit for purpose.
    So what conclusions do we draw from this exercise relating to the 10.5 upgrade to iTunes and the over 11,000 views of similar problems on this forum?

  • Ntvdm using 100% cpu when installing jdev 3.2

    I downloaded jdev32.zip from otn, unzipped it into a directory and tried to launch setup.exe. Busy cursor appears for about 15 secs, then disappears. ntvdm is startet and consumes 100 % cpu time. No install screen appears.
    I stopped almost every service on my nt 4.0 server sp 5, no help.

    This is most unusual. Possibly a corrupted Zip file was downloaded - Possibly other resource / file issues.
    Please check the following things:
    1. Make sure you have pleanty of available free disk space for the installation to unzip and install.
    2. Run WinZip on the Zip file to see if any errors pop up - if so, you may need to re-download.
    3. Possibly - Reboot machine and then try to install when minimal OS activity has occurred.
    I hope this helps,

    Dear John
    Thank you for your reply. I can exclude the bad zip file, for the setup programs from jdev 3.1.1.2 and jdev 3.1, which happened to stay on my machine, show the same behaviour (they worked fine at their time). I agree that it has something to do with my installation. Meanwhile, I reapplied service pack 5 and applied service pack 6 for NT, no help.
    I will try to check with install shield corporation.

  • Win8 Antimalware Service use 100% cpu in idle

    When I am doing nothing on my Yoga then Antimalware Service is started and my Yoga is soooo loud with fans and sooo hot. Can anybody know how to disable this Antimalware Service? I know that I can disable Windows Defender. But I want realtime scanning when I am downloading something. I just dont what scanning hdd when I am in idle. In Win7 you can disable scanning in idle and only have realtime scanning. I Win8 this options is not available. Anybody solved this problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi szy,
    There isn't a setting in Defender to use on-demand scanning, but there is a way to turn automatic scanning off though.
    The scan runs as part of a scheduled task:
    1. Open up Task Schedule (search Schedule Tasks and it will be under settings)
    2. Double-click to open up the Task Scheduler Library on the left side pane, its located under Microsoft -> Windows Defender.
    The one you want is called MP Scheduled Scan, if you click it on the bottom of the right side bar you can disable it.

  • Ssh uses 100% RAM when run from zsh.

    As the title says... When i use zsh as my shell and want to connect to a server using "ssh server.hostname.bla" nothing happens.
    But after a few seconds the system will be totally unusable.
    I checked htop and was able to see that as soon as i enter that command, my RAM flooded.
    As soon as i remove my zsh config (which has NOT changed at all for months now) things work as expected.

    Problem solved:
    Apparently, SwingWorkers by default all execute on the same background thread in JDK 1.6
    Add these
    import java.util.concurrent.Executor;
    import java.util.concurrent.Executors;
    At the top of your Main() add this
    final Executor executor = Executors.newCachedThreadPool();
    And in your actionPerformeds, execute your SwingWorkers like this
    executor.execute(new Main.MyTask("First"));
    This will execute each SwingWorker on a separate thread in a Thread pool.

  • Error while running Java Application as NT Service using INSTSRV

    Hi,
    I am trying to run Java Application as an NT Service using Instsrv.But when i start the service It works fine.when i stop the service it does not stop and it continues to run the application.When i uninstall the service It still executes.When i reboot my machine it stops .Is there any solutions for this.Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I actually had similar situation. I used autoexnt.ext tool (it creats a service that can be called when rebooting) to start a batch file which in turn run a java program. After the program starts, it can only be stopped through Task Manager or Ctrl-C at the dos window (it creats a dos window) or close the window directly. Stopping the service has nothing to do with the program. I feel this is reasonable because the only function of the service here is to start the application. After that the service does not (very likely) have any connection with the program so whatever you do with the service will not affect the program itself. I wonnder if you are in the same situation.

  • How to create oracle services using grid control

    Hi All,
    I have oracle grid control account my grid control version is 10.2.0.4.0.Can any one please let me know the tab from which I can create Oracle services.
    I know we can create oracle services using DBCA also.When I'm trying to do that way it is giving below error.

    DISPLAY not set.
    Set DISPLAY environment variable, then re-run.
    How to set DISPLAY environment variable.
    Thanks,
    Rafi.

    Normally, you set DISPLAY to an IP address with the suffix : and 0.0: the IP address must match a machine able to display X11 windows.
    Example with Linux bash shell:
    export DISPLAY=192.168.0.1:0.0What is your OS version ? What is your shell (bash, ksh, sh, csh) ? How do you connect to the UNIX host ?

    service_name => l_service_qname);
    Web services are SSL.
    The WSDL is at https location and needs username/password for access. The username/password to access WSDL are set using UTL_DBWS.SET_PROPERTY
    To access the SSL site, I have imported the CA in Oracle Wallet, JVM home and JDK home.
    Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong here. I am not able to even establish connection to web service host.
    This is very frustrating - Oracle has no examples on how to access a SSL Web Service (that needs authentication) from Database.
    This is effecting our project deadlines ......... any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I presume your Web Service needs HTTP (BASIC?) Authentication.
    All this needs is setting the following 2 properties, which as can be seen, you are setting....
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'USERNAME', '<username>');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'PASSWORD', '<pwd>');
    This should work as long as your DBWS Callout Utility was downloaded from OTN after June 2008, and it's version is atleast 10.1.3.1.
    Following is a sample code snippet that was tested successfully for this :
    Declare
    l_service UTL_DBWS.service;
    l_call UTL_DBWS.call;
    l_result sys.XMLTYPE;
    l_request sys.XMLTYPE;
    BEGIN
    l_service := UTL_DBWS.create_service(null);
    l_call := UTL_DBWS.create_call(l_service);
    UTL_DBWS.set_target_endpoint_address(l_call, 'http://xxx.oracle.com:8888/basic/MyWebService1SoapHttpPort');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'USERNAME', 'username');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'PASSWORD', 'pwd');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'OPERATION_STYLE', 'document');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'SOAPACTION_USE', 'true');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'SOAPACTION_URI', 'http://xxx.oracle.com:8888/basic/MyWebService1SoapHttpPort');
    l_request := XMLTYPE('<Z_CENTRICITY_GET_DOCLIST

    '<I_PATIENT_NR>0000000181</I_PATIENT_NR>' ||
    '</Z_CENTRICITY_GET_DOCLIST>');
    l_result := UTL_DBWS.invoke(l_call, l_request);
    UTL_DBWS.release_call (call_handle => l_call);
    UTL_DBWS.release_service (service_handle => l_service);
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    dbms_output.put_line(sqlcode || ' ' || sqlerrm);

    Comments -
    The web service operation only has input message. The input message consists of a complex type as seen in WSDL.
    Questions -
    1. This is my first attempt in invoking a web service from pl/sql program. Is the code in SOAP body correct as mapped to the complex type in WSDL ?
    2. As seen from the dbms_out - the last message before ORA-12560 is 5.5, that means the call is erroring at following code line -
    http_req:= utl_http.begin_request ------ what am I doing wrong here ?
    3. The web service is SSL as seen from WSDLand needs a username/password for access - which is being performed by following code line -
    utl_http.set_authentication(http_req, '<username for webservice>', '<password for webservice user>'); ------- is that correct ?
    4. I am not using any proxy server - should I be using it ? When is it necessary to use proxy ?
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanx.

    Oracle is hosted by HOST A - this is where the pl/sql program resides.
    The Web Service being accessed by pl/sql program is hosted by HOST B and there are 4 firewalls in between.
    Oracle was not even able to establish connection to web services host.
    Escalated the issue with networking folks and they resolved the connectivity problem.
    Hope that helps.

  • Creating Web services using JDeveloper for Pl/SQL package having ref cursor

    Hi,
    I am trying to create web services for PL/SQL package in JDeveloper. When I am trying to create this web service, the functions in the package which is returning referential cursor or record cursor are not visible. When I highlight the function and click "Why Not?", it displays the message "The following types used by the program unit do not have an XML schema mapping and/or serializer Specified: REF CURSOR". Could you please let me know, how I can create this web service?
    I am getting similar error when I am trying to create web service for a package with overloaded functions also.
    Thanks,

    Ok so I played around with this some more. I created the same process in bpel using oracle bpel designer and here are the results.
    1. Against 10g database running a synch process data is retutned without error.
    2. Against 9i database running an asynch process data is retutned without error.
    3. Against 9i database running a synch process data is retutned with error.
    I'm definilty missing something.

  • How to use Service Broker, where and when we gonna use it.

    Hi all,
    I have task to implement SQL service broker for some insert statement, am bit confused where i start and how to implement like it may in Database or Server side(ASP.Net- c#), some where.
    What the main advantage of using SQL Service broker?
    Thanks,
    Jai.

    There is more than one place where Service Broker fits in. Generally, one can say that Service Broker permits you to implement things asynchronously. For instance, when a row is updated in a table a mail should be sent to someone. Rather than having a trigger
    that sends the mail on the spot, the trigger could post a message on a Service Broker queue. Then there could be an activation procedure which reacts to this message and composes and sends the mail. This activation can be in the same database - but it can
    also be on a completely different server which does not even have a direct connection to the actual server.
    Activation can also be external. That is, there is an application that polls the queue, and again this could be on an other server, and when there is a message in the queue the application processes it.
    Roger Wolter's book is an excellent introduction to Service Broker:
    http://www.amazon.com/Rational-Server-Service-Broker-Guides/dp/1932577270/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420025225&sr=8-1&keywords=Roger+Wolter+service+broker
    Also, don't overlook Remus Rusanu's blog, which is an excellent resource for development patterns with Service Broker:
    http://rusanu.com/?s=service+broker
    Both Roger and Remus worked on the development of Service Broker, so they know what they are talking about.

  • Sql using 100%cpu

    Hopefully someone will be able to advise me on something i am stuck on.
    this is the sql statement running from a client machine (windows xp) and is connected to a database on a db server running oracle linux and oracle 10.2.0.3 database.
    SELECT M.FID, M.ANCHORPOSITION, M.HEIGHT, M.ORIENTATION, M.TEXTSTRING, M.GEOM.SDO_POINT.X X, M.GEOM.SDO_POINT.Y Y
    FROM CARTOGRAPHICTEXT M
    WHERE M.FID IN (SELECT FID FROM CTDESCRIPTIVEGROUP WHERE DESCRIPTIVEGROUPID = 40)
    AND M.PROCESSED = 'F'
    during the execution of this statement, the following stats were determined.
    Total Per Execution Per Row
    Executions 1 1 0.00
    CPU Time (sec) 450745.25 450745.25 6.70

    the table cartographictext has circa 1million rows and the select statement selecting from ctdescripitvegroup will return 12million rows.
    when viewing the top events in linux, oracle pid calling this sql is showing %cpu at 100. similarly when viewing the diagnostics in em console, the cpu is at 100%.
    the application runs a number of sql statements onthe table with varying where clauses. on similar sql events on another table prior to this, the first sql call to the table took 11 hours to complete, but the subsequent sql were completed in less then 2 minutes per call.
    the above statement has been running for 4 days now and only returned 67000 rows.
    having checked the other stats, i wasn't able to determine where the problem lies.

    sql tuning advisor does flag it as not very well tuned, but then doesn't offer any recommendations. stats have been gathered on the tables. have tried some hints, but not to much success, explain plan said it was using a hash join right semi.
    any help would be appreiciated.

  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition 32 bits Service Pack 2 never finishes searching for updates and use 100% of CPU.

    Hi everyone, I am having issues updating a clean Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition 32 bits Service Pack 2, so any help with be appreciated cause I've already tried all my cards for the past 5 days in this particular issue without success.
    All I did so far is installing Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise with Service Pack 2, open IE to update, it keeps searching for updates and never stop, after 20mn to 30mn the process svchost.exe start using 100% of my CPU.
    I already tried the following scenarios:
    1-  Install IE8, install the update KB927891 and the Windows Update Agent 3.0 (I already had this one installed). Reboot and run windows update trough IE8 and the problem did not solved.
    2- Install those 2 software "MicrosoftFixit.wu.MATSKB.Run" and "MicrosoftFixit50777", open IE to update, it still hangs and continues eating my CPU. This is the output of "MicrosoftFixit".
    Windows Update error 0x8007000D(2014-01-06-T-06_06_34A) --> Not Fixed
    Cryptographic service components are not registered (This service is actually running successfully) --> Not Fixed
    3- I found the following script that would register some DLL, deleting the "SoftwareDistribution" and forcing windows update to solve the problem and nothing happened either.
    Link to script:

    Herein is the root cause of your issue. A topic that's been discussed in several blogs, forums, and even in the media since September regards a known issue with attempting to patch IE6 RTM via Windows Update.
    Aside from that particular issue... browsing the Internet with an unpatched instance of IE6, especially from a Windows Server system, is also asking for a world of hurt.
    Might I suggest the following:
    Download the IE8 for Windows Server 2003 installer to a thumb drive.
    Download the latest Cumulative Security Update for IE8 for Windows Server 2003 to a thumb drive.
    Reinstall Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2.
    Upgrade to IE8 from the thumb drive installer and apply the
    Cumulative Security Update.
    Now your machine is capable of safely browsing to Windows Update to install the rest of the updates (well, maybe, there's also all those other Security Updates from the past seven years that your machine still has vulnerabilites for -- even those seven
    years of updates are going to take a Very Long Time to scan for, download, and install).
    Why don't you have a WSUS server? -- noting, wryly, that you've posted in the *WSUS* forum.
