SQLj - static bind to the database

I'm porting a customer application to Oracle SQLj.
I've read in the documentation that programming in SQLj I can use the features of
building the statically the access path.
So I'm testing the environment:
First - I wrote an SQLj test application: myApp.sqlj
Second - I precompiled/compiled the myApp.sqlj with the sqlj translator
     C:\...\> sqlj myApp.sqlj
     and I obtained a .ser file (serialized profile)
Third - The question is: How can I bind the ".ser" file in to my Oracle database.
P.S. A colleague that works with others db vendor producs told me that should exists
a program/tool to do this, but I haven't found anything in the docs!
Thank you Luca

I changed the Conn String
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:ibd/ibd@xyz:1521:NEW");
ibd/ibd - database login/pwd
xyz is the network name
1521 - Port No
NEW - Instance Name
Now i am getting this Exception
Message : IO Exception :The network adopter could not establish
the Connection
SqlState : null
ErrorCode : 17002
waht cud be the error?

  • SQLJ with EJB. Do not insert data in the database

    Hi All!
    I4m developing an application using SQLJ and EJB (session beans,
    container managed transactions), and when I try to insert data
    in the database it doesn't work. All goes well (apparently), but
    the changes do not have effect in the DB.
    I've tried to use bean managed transactions, but when I try to
    insert data, I get the error: NOT IN A TRANSACTION. The code of
    the client in the bean managed is the following:
    public class MiEJBCLiente {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    String namespaceURL
    = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@rabinf56:1521:prinpal";
    String ejbUrl
    = "sess_iiop://rabinf56:2481:prinpal/test/Bean";
    String username = "xxx";
    String password = "xxx";
    // Setup the environment
    Hashtable environment = new Hashtable();
    // Tell JNDI to speak sess_iiop

    remoteInterface.inserta();
    ut.commit();

    System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    e.printStackTrace();
    I4m waiting for suggests.
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
    Are you sure it's a front-end bug? Try to double check your back-end code.
    If you still believe the bug is in the front-end, try to debug the insertHandler function to see if you are attaching the UserVO properly into the UserEvent.

  • How to bind JtextFields in Swing to Table fields in the database

    Can some one give the code of how to bind JtextFields in Swing to Table fields in the database
    Am really new to java programming and have interest in learning

    The standard JDK doesn't do this for you. If you search on Google, you may find some 3rd party packages that will do this.
    You need to create your own form add execute the appropriate SQL yourself. Read the tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/]JDBC Database Access to get started.

    Sample of connection to a DB
              public static Connection startDBCon(String datasource_name){
               DataSource ds;
               InitialContext ctx;
               Properties properties;
           try {
                datasource_name = "jdbc/" + datasource_name; // + "DB";
                String contextUrl = "";
                String contextFactory = "com.sap.engine.services.jndi.InitialContextFactoryImpl";
                properties = new Properties();
                properties.put("java.naming.factory.initial", contextFactory);
                ctx = new InitialContext(properties);
                ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup(datasource_name);
                return ds.getConnection();
           } catch (Exception e) {
    //            e.printStackTrace();
           return null;
    usually datasource_name is equal to:
                     datasource_name =
                                    "SAP" +
                                    (String) System.getProperties().get("SAPSYSTEMNAME")
                                              + "DB";
    or
    datasource_name = "SAPSR3DB";
    by the way have to call you system administrator and ask, this datasourcename is configurated under Visual Adminstrator.
    Here some SQL call after got connection:
         public Rows[] findByDynamicSelect(String sql, Object[] sqlParams) throws YourException
              // declare variables
              final boolean isConnSupplied = (userConn != null);
              Connection conn = null;
              PreparedStatement stmt = null;
              ResultSet rs = null;
              try {
                   // get the user-specified connection or get a connection from the ResourceManager
                   conn = isConnSupplied ? userConn : ResourceManager.getConnection();
                   // construct the SQL statement
                   final String SQL = sql;
                   // prepare statement
                   stmt = conn.prepareStatement( SQL );
                   // bind parameters
                   for (int i=0; sqlParams!=null && i<sqlParams.length; i++ ) {
                        stmt.setObject( i+1, sqlParams<i> );
                   rs = stmt.executeQuery();
                   // fetch the results
                   return fetchMultiResults(rs);
              catch (SQLException _e) {
                   throw new YourException"SQLException: " + _e.getMessage(), _e );
              catch (Exception _e) {
                   throw new YourException"Exception: " + _e.getMessage(), _e );
              finally {
                   ResourceManager.close(rs);
                   ResourceManager.close(stmt);
                   if (!isConnSupplied) {
                        ResourceManager.close(conn);
    example how to call:
         public Row findByPrimaryKey(String Par1, int Par2, int Par3) throws YourException
              Row ret[] = findByDynamicSelect( SQL_SELECT + " WHERE Par1 = ? AND Par2 = ? AND Par3 = ? ", new Object[] { Par1, new Integer(Par2),  new Integer(Par3) } );
              return ret.length==0 ? null : ret[0];
    after for Row (Resultset) there are method like:
    Row.getInt( COLUMN_FIELD )
    Row.getString( COLUMN_FIELD )
    Row.getDouble( COLUMN_FIELD )

  • Refresh jTable after inserting new data into the Database

    Hey all,
    I'm using Netbeans 6.5 to create a Desktop Application which is connected to a Java DB (Derby).
    The first simple steps were all very successfull:
    Create the jTable and bind it to the Database => everything works fine. When the application starts it correctly shows all data from the database.
    The problem starts when I try to insert new data to the database.
    For that reason I've created textfields and a button "Save". When I press the button it successfully inserts the data to the database but they are not displayed in the jTable (when the application starts they are all there, they are not updated at runtime) . I've tried table.invalidate() and table.repaint() but they just don't work.
    Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. But please have in mind that most of the code is Netbeans-generated and most of it not editable.
    Many thanks in advance.
    George

    Once again you are right my friend. I jumped to conclusion way too fast, when I shouldn't. (Give me a break, I've been busting my head with this well over a week). The response I saw when I did that was that indeed a line is added to the jTable. Because I falsly set the index of the object to be added to be second to last the row appeared on the table, what I didn't see at the time was that the last one disappeared. Hmm...
    A new adventure begins...
    So after a few hours of messing around with it here are my observations:
    1) It was not an observable list. When I add the new element with employeesList.add(newEmp); , the table gets notified but a get a bunch of exceptions:

    ... and a lot morewhich from my poor understanding means that the jTable succesfully notices the change but it is not able (??) to adjust to the new change. What is more interesting is that when I plainly add the element to the end of the list (without an idex that is), a blank row appears at the end of my Table. The weird thing is that I've bound the table to some text fields below it, and when I select that empty row all the data appear correctly to the text fields.
    I tried going through:
                    org.jdesktop.observablecollections.ObservableCollections.observableList(employeesList).add(newEmp);as well as
                    help = org.jdesktop.observablecollections.ObservableCollections.observableListHelper(employeesList);
                    help.getObservableList().add(newEmp);
                    help.fireElementChanged(employeesList.lastIndexOf(newEmp));and
                    obsemployeesList = org.jdesktop.observablecollections.ObservableCollections.observableList(employeesList);
                    obsemployeesList.add(newEmp);and I still get the same results (both the exeptions and the mysterious empty row at the end of the table
    So, I'm again in terrible need of your advice. I can't thank you enough for the effort you put into this.
    Best regards,

  • How to authenticate SSO dynamically to the database?

    I want to know how can i auth users with SSO dynamically. For instance I want to know if it's possible to specify that SSO/LDAP user A connects with database user X1 and SSO/LDAP user B connect to the database with database user Y2. I want to run Forms with SSO users but i want that DB connection should not be static.
    Is it possible ?

    If you're trying to do this in a SELECT, you can use the LIKE verb in your WHERE clause.
    Here's an Example
      SELECT obj_name FROM tadir
        INTO prog
        WHERE pgmid = 'R3TR'
          AND object = 'PROG'
          AND obj_name LIKE 'Z%'.
    In this case it will select every row that obj_name starts with Z.
    If you wanted to find every row that the field obj_name contains say... 'WIN'  you use LIKE '%WIN%'.

  • Problem in getting the database connection from a connection pool

    Hai All,
    I am facing a problem in getting the database connection from a connection pool created on weblogic server 8.1.
    I am using the Oracle database 8.1.7.
    I have configured my connection pool, datasource and JNDI in weblogic.
    In my java program i have the following code to retrieve the connection.
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.util.Hashtable;
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    class jdbcshp1 {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
         Connection connection = null;
         try {
               Hashtable ht = new Hashtable();
               ht.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");  // Wanna get rid of this.
               ht.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,"t3://localhost:7001"); // wanna get rid of this.
               // Get a context for the JNDI look up
               Context ctx = new InitialContext(ht);
            javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup ("myjndi1");
              //Create a connection object
              connection = ds.getConnection();
         The above code is working fine but, the two ht.put statements are creating problem.
    The problem is, after converting the application into WAR file it can be deployed
    on any machine or different port on same machine. My application fails if its deployed on
    weglogicserver which is at different port.
    Is there any way that i can get rid of those ht.put statements or any other way to solve the problem.
    any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Pooja.

    Hai All,
    Firstly, thanks for ur reply.
    Even i have seen some code which uses context constructor with out any parameter and works fine.
    i dont understand why its not working for my code.
    When i remove those ht.put code and use context constructor with out any parameter, it giving an error.
    Context ctx = new InitialContext();
    javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup ("ocjndi");
    connection = ds.getConnection();The error is as follows:
    javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial
    the above error is forcing me to include those code but if the port number is changed the code will not work. Plz let meknow if some setting have to be made.
    I appreciate all ur valuable help.
    Thanks once again.
    Pooja.

  • Is the database cursor not working correctly?

    Hello, all
    I got a problem when retrieving all the key/data pairs from a database by using the cursor. After some debugging, I realized that the problem is due to the reuse of a DatabaseEntry object to get data from multiple entries. For example, there are two records in a database
    key | data
    1 "aaaaaaaa"
    2 "bbbb"
    If I want to know the length of data for each key/data pair, I expected the returning result would be:
    the length of key 1's data is 8
    the length of key 1's data is 5
    However, when I use a cursor to retrieve the result back, it returns the following result:
    the length of key 1's data is 8
    the length of key 1's data is 8
    The code to reproduce the incorrect result is attached below. One way to fix this code is to new a DatabaseEntry object within the loop. But the following code come from the berkeley db documentation (http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/gsg/JAVA/Positioning.html). So I think it is good to report this problem.

    Hi,
    When a DatabaseEntry is reused when doing retrieval we internally use realloc to reuse the memory, hence the behavior you've observed.
    You should use the DatabaseEntry.getSize() method to determine the byte size of the data array. This will provide the correct results you're looking for, as after retrieving an entry we internally set in the size of the retrieved DBT:
    System.out.println("the length of Key " + key + "'data is " + foundData.getSize());

    Andrei

  • Can multiple threads write to the database?

    I am a little confused from the statement in the documentation: "Berkeley DB Data Store does not support locking, and hence does not guarantee correct behavior if more than one thread of control is updating the database at a time."
    1. Can multiple threads write to the "Simple Data Store"?
    2. Considering the sample code below which writes to the DB using 5 threads - is there a possibility of data loss?
    3. If the code will cause data loss, will adding DB_INIT_LOCK and/or DB_INIT_TXN in DBENV->open make any difference?

    Here some clarification about BDB Lock and Multi threads behavior
    Question 1. Can multiple threads write to the "Simple Data Store"?
    Answer 1.
    Please Refer to http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/intro_products.html
    A Data Store (DS) set up
    (so not using an environment or using one, but without any of the DB_INIT_LOCK, DB_INIT_TXN, DB_INIT_LOG environment regions related flags specified
    each corresponding to the appropriate subsystem, locking, transaction, logging)
    will not guard against data corruption due to accessing the same database page and overwriting the same records, corrupting the internal structure of the database etc.
    (note that in the case of the Btree, Hash and Recno access methods we lock at the database page level, only for the Queue access method we lock at record level)
    So,
    if You want to have multiple threads in the application writing concurrently or in parallel to the same database You need to use locking (and properly handle any potential deadlocks),
    otherwise You risk corrupting the data itself or the database (its internal structure).
    Of course , If You serialize at the application level the access to the database, so that no more one threads writes to the database at a time, there will be no need for locking.
    But obviously this is likely not the behavior You want.
    Hence, You need to use either a CDS (Concurrent Data Store) or TDS (Transactional Data Store) set up.
    See the table comparing the various set ups, here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/intro_products.html
    Berkeley DB Data Store
    The Berkeley DB Data Store product is an embeddable, high-performance data store. This product supports multiple concurrent threads of control, including multiple processes and multiple threads of control within a process. However, Berkeley DB Data Store does not support locking, and hence does not guarantee correct behavior if more than one thread of control is updating the database at a time. The Berkeley DB Data Store is intended for use in read-only applications or applications which can guarantee no more than one thread of control updates the database at a time.
    Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store
    The Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store product adds multiple-reader, single writer capabilities to the Berkeley DB Data Store product. This product provides built-in concurrency and locking feature. Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store is intended for applications that need support for concurrent updates to a database that is largely used for reading.
    Berkeley DB Transactional Data Store
    The Berkeley DB Transactional Data Store product adds support for transactions and database recovery. Berkeley DB Transactional Data Store is intended for applications that require industrial-strength database services, including excellent performance under high-concurrency workloads of read and write operations, the ability to commit or roll back multiple changes to the database at a single instant, and the guarantee that in the event of a catastrophic system or hardware failure, all committed database changes are preserved.
    So, clearly DS is not a solution for this case, where multiple threads need to write simultaneously to the database.
    CDS (Concurrent Data Store) provides locking features, but only for multiple-reader/single-writer scenarios. You use CDS when you specify the DB_INIT_CDB flag when opening the BDB environment: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/api_reference/C/envopen.html#envopen_DB_INIT_CDB
    TDS (Transactional Data Store) provides locking features, adds complete ACID support for transactions and offers recoverability guarantees. You use TDS when you specify the DB_INIT_TXN and DB_INIT_LOG flags when opening the environment. To have locking support, you would need to also specify the DB_INIT_LOCK flag.
    Now, since the requirement is to have multiple writers (multi-threaded writes to the database),
    then TDS would be the way to go (CDS is useful only in single-writer scenarios, when there are no needs for recoverability).
    To Summarize
    The best way to have an understanding of what set up is needed, it is to answer the following questions:
    - What is the data access scenario? Is it multiple writer threads? Will the writers access the database simultaneously?
    - Are recoverability/data durability, atomicity of operations and data isolation important for the application? http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/transapp_why.html
    If the answers are yes, then TDS should be used, and the environment should be opened like this:
    dbEnv->open(dbEnv, ENV_HOME, DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_RECOVER | DB_THREAD, 0);
    (where ENV_HOME is the filesystem directory where the BDB environment will be created)
    Question 2. Considering the sample code below which writes to the DB using 5 threads - is there a possibility of data loss?
    Answer 2.
    Definitely yes, You can see data loss and/or data corruption.
    You can check the behavior of your testcase in the following way
    1. Run your testcase
    2.After the program exits
    run db_verify to verify the database (db_verify -o test.db).
    You will likely see db_verify complaining, unless the thread scheduler on Windows weirdly starts each thread one after the other,
    IOW no two or ore threads write to the database at the same time -- kind of serializing the writes
    Question 3. If the code will cause data loss, will adding DB_INIT_LOCK and/or DB_INIT_TXN in DBENV->open make any difference?
    Answer 3.
    In Your case the TDS should be used, and the environment should be opened like this:
    dbEnv->open(dbEnv, ENV_HOME, DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_RECOVER | DB_THREAD, 0);
    (where ENV_HOME is the filesystem directory where the BDB environment will be created)
    doing this You have proper deadlock handling in place and proper transaction usage
    so
    You are protected against potential data corruption/data loss.
    see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/gsg_txn/C/BerkeleyDB-Core-C-Txn.pdf
    Multi-threaded and Multi-process Applications
    DB is designed to support multi-threaded and multi-process applications, but their usage
    means you must pay careful attention to issues of concurrency. Transactions help your
    application's concurrency by providing various levels of isolation for your threads of control. In
    addition, DB provides mechanisms that allow you to detect and respond to deadlocks.
    Isolation means that database modifications made by one transaction will not normally be
    seen by readers from another transaction until the first commits its changes. Different threads
    use different transaction handles, so this mechanism is normally used to provide isolation
    between database operations performed by different threads.
    Note that DB supports different isolation levels. For example, you can configure your
    application to see uncommitted reads, which means that one transaction can see data that
    has been modified but not yet committed by another transaction. Doing this might mean
    your transaction reads data "dirtied" by another transaction, but which subsequently might
    change before that other transaction commits its changes. On the other hand, lowering your
    isolation requirements means that your application can experience improved throughput due
    to reduced lock contention.

  • Suddenly getting UserNotFoundException: User Not Found: Could not load profile data from the database

    Starting yesterday (I believe) we are suddenly receiving a "User not found" error when trying to view a user's profile page when clicking on their name (in search or elsewhere) via the url
    https://www.contoso.org/Person.aspx?accountname=contoso%255Cmyuserlogin
    This is happening for all users. (but profiles exist and seem ok, and sync with AD is running fine) When looking in the logs I see the error  (full ULS log is later below)
    Exception in LoadRequestedUserProfile: (Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserNotFoundException: User Not Found: Could not load profile data from the database.
    The only clue of what MAY be going on is just before that I see the following two lines which came up after I changed the Database logging to Verbose:
    ConnectionString: 'Data Source=INSTANCE;Initial Catalog=UPAPROFILEDB;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=15;Application Name=SharePoint[w3wp][3][UPAPROFILEDB]'    Partition:
    NULL ConnectionState: Closed ConnectionTimeout: 15
    SQL connection time: 0.0456 for Data Source=INSTANCE;Initial Catalog=UPAPROFILEDB;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=15;Application Name=SharePoint[w3wp][3][HNet3_Svc_Prod_UPA_Profile]
    If I am reading that correctly, does it mean the connection to the database is timing out instantly? I am able to use powershell to pull up profiles and print them to the screen while on the webservers. And it's only the one specific page that is not
    working.
    What sort of tests or further debugging can I do for the error above?
    We are on premise, SharePoint 2013 sp1, sql2012, server 2012, claims using the full SharePoint Profiile Sychronization against AD.  Farm has been running since last august. Last week the admin team did run windows update on all servers, I can't be sure
    if it was broken for 5 days and no one noticed or if it broke yesterday.
    I already did the following:
    Verified the profiles do exist in central admin.
    I can still access their personal sites directly via
    https://www.contoso.org/personal/myuserlogin
    I checked the ProfileDB database and made sure the service accounts for the UPA has dbowner, so does the farm account, and the web application pool has SPDataAccess.
    Verified the AD sync account has proper rights in AD.
    I reran a full synchronization which ran with no errors.
    File systems on the webservers and appserver have plenty of free space.
    Rebooted every server in farm
    I even checked the bin directory of the mysite webapplication, (since once I had a weird problem where access to bin was removed.) WSS_ADMIN_WPG, WSS_RESTRICTED_WPG_W4 have full control and WSS_WPG,IIS_IUSRS all have read and execute.
    I opened powershell on the webserver I can indeed load profiles and print their values.
