Sqlplus /nolog opens wrong copy

Hi,
I just installed 10g on a Windows XP machine and am in the process of installing HTTP Server and Apex 3.1.2. After I installed HTTP Server (standalone) it created another copy of SQL PLus, so now whenever I Start>Run>sqlplus /nolog it opens the HTTP Server version which won't allow me to my database. To get the database version I need to enter the full file path, which as you can imagine is a big hassle.
I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can re-associate the "sqlplus" command to use the proper copy of this program.

What response (error messages?) do you get when it "won't allow" you to your database?
The command "sqlplus /nolog" says "open sqlplus, but DO NOT connect to a database." If you start sqllpus with the "/nolog" (no logon) option, what happens if you then issue
SQL> connect / as sysdba
sqlplus doesn't know of or have any "association" with any particular database, any more than Excel is associated with any particular xls file. If you have multiple copies, due to having multiple ORACLE_HOMEs, it really shouldn't matter which copy you use.
What is the value of your PATH?
What is the value of ORACLE_SID?
What is the full and exact command line you enter from "Start > Run"?
What happens when you "Start > Run > cmd", then enter "sqlplus /nolog"?

Trying to log in using sqlplus /nolog and getting SP2-0640

Hello, I searched for this problem but not having much luck. I have Oracle 9iR2 running on Solaris 9 workstation. I can log on giving sys/passwd as sysdba and log on using any other user accounts. What I can't do is get into sqlplus using /nolog. I am setting up a dataguard physical clone. The clone is another 9iR2 workstation and i just installed the RDBMS software without creating a database. I can go into this database with sqlplus /nolog. I cannot do this on my intended primary database. I remember being able to get into the database when i first set it up using sqlplus /nolog but have since changed the unix account password and i believe this caused it but when i change the password back to the same one when I created the database, it still does not work. The error I get is SP2-0640: Not connected. Is there a log I can look up that will give me more information? thanks,

Normally this errors occurs, if you have in glogin.sql (located in $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin) or login.sql statements,which require a working connection.

It's very strange what j've observed:
J've two files *.sql :

file_with_connect.sql which contains 3 lines :

table <table_name> isn't empty (it contains 1 row)

When J execute from DOS (on the client):
sqlplus /nolog @file_with_connect.sql le result is 0 rows in table <table_name>

When J execute from DOS :
sqlplus <user>/<password>@tnsname @file_without_connect.sql le result is: 1 row in table <table_name>
I use the same connection, tnsname, table.
Why the result isn't the same ?
There is no error in my alertXXXX.log

The table <table_name> that j've used exists only in one database.
It's tnsname is ok on the server, on the client it was defined 2 times ! (but the same) in the file tnsname.ora. J've modify the client tnsname.ora.
But, j'm not sure it was the reason of our problem: the error isn't regular (sometimes) so j can't verify that it will never appear.
Any other idea?

I too have the same problem working property until about January or February this year...get "bad parameter' message trying to open files and then when I did the upgrade this a.m. it will not open at all, just spins and then disappears. I had this problem about a week ago and our IT man thought he had it resolved, even then kept getting 'bad parameter' and then this a.m. right back to not opening at all. I have Windows 7 Professional v6.1 and am wondering if it's a compatibility issue? Will I continue to have these issued until I install Windows 8?

I use AppleWorks more than anything else, and understand the work arounds. Here is the problem, everytime I open a previous file I get this message, "This file is locked or in Use. Would you like to open a copy of it?" I copied applications from a previous iMac. When I try to open copy of the document, I get the above message. When I try the save command I can't, even a save as doesn't work either. Any thoughts or ideas for a resolution.

I have found that this problem is due to OS X's ownership & permissions. When you create & save a document in AppleWorks in OS X the file is owned by you & no one else can make changes without your permission. If you don't have the same account name as on the other Mac, you'll need to change the permissions. Click on the file to select it, then choose "Get Info" from the File menu. Now click on the triangle next to "Ownership & Permissions" & change Group & Others permissions to "Read & Write."
The save problem may be solved by deleting the AppleWorks preferences.

Scanned picture: "Can not open" "wrong type of file" - elements 6

I have scanned lots of pictures and saved them as jpegs or tiffs, etc in Elements 6 and had no problems, but the last few pictures I've scanned (Epson V500 photo scanner) and have saved in "my pictures" using Elements 6, are not visable. When I try to open the image (that has no picture), it says "can not open - wrong type of file." As far as I know, I haven't changed any buttons and I've been scanning as I usually do. Has anyone encountered this message and if so, what is the answer?
I have Windows XP - Just purchased Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner and it came with Elements 6.

A possibility is that you have used an illegal name. The file name cannot have more than one period in it, and that must precede the letters JPG (or TIF) at the end of the file name. Or, the last three letters after the period are NOT correct ... the last three letters after the period must be JPG (or TIF).

Open a Copy of a form

Hey All,
Is there a way to force Acrobat to open a copy of a form when the user opens it up? I am asking because I have some signature fields on a form and I don't want the user to open up the original and place a signature and then we have to send them a new form everytime they need it (the form will be on laptops that are mobile and very rarely in the office). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul,
I don't think you can open a copy. Acrobat opens the file that the user has selected.
However you could script so that the user is prompted to save the form if the file name matches the template. Say the form is named "My Template.pdf". The following script in the docReady event of the form1 node should work:
if (event.target.documentFileName == "My Template.pdf")
app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");
This means that when the user renames it, they will not be prompted to save as again.

PS: This won't work in LC Designer Preview, as the file name when previewed is generic, for example "c4BN23ms78.pdf". You would need to open the form in Acrobat/Reader.

My installation was successful except for DBCA make errors.
However, when I went to type sqlplus /nolog
nothing happens. please help

If the DBCA had errors it may be that the database is not in fact installed. Make errors should be investigated / rectified and you should be able to find something in the installActions or Make log.
It sounds to me like you didn't get one of the prerequisites correct for the install on Linux.
as a check to see if the database exists is running issue the following commands and feedback any messages:
ps -ef | grep pmon
lsnrctl status

How do I OPEN (not copy) a file in an external editor?

I create digital collages and scrapbooks, and I have roughly 200 GB of digital source files containing images of things like ribbons, papers, etc.
I'm using Aperture for two things: organization and basic editing of my photos, and organization of my digital source files (non-photo). I use Photoshop for advanced editing.
The organization part is working great: I have nested keyword groups and smart albums that are making searching through my supplies much easier. But when I find something I want to use in a collage, I want to open it in Photoshop WITHOUT making a copy. I never alter my source files--I just drag them onto the collage I'm creating and manipulate them there.
Aperture is making a copy of the file, even if no changes are made. Not only that, but it's adding a black backing to PNG files and ignoring their transparency, so the image that opens in PS isn't even usable.
Is there a way to switch off the copy feature and just open the file? Is there a way to get Aperture to respect the transparency? Am I going about this all wrong?

I have imported the files as referenced masters. But I'm trying to avoid having to decide on something in Aperture, then go through multiple levels of folders in Finder to find the actual file. Is there an easier way?
