SQLServer 2005 SP2 Experiences

Hi folks!
What about experiences with SQLServer 2005's new SP2?
Kind regards, Rudi

Hello,
if you want to upgrade your installation to SQL Server 2005 you can use any other DVD with SQL 2005 as the installation bits won't change. Only the SP2 will be an additionally part of the new DVD.
The installation bits including all features from SQL 2005, from the Report Services, Analysis Server, Notification Service to the Integration Service. There is no special SAP version of the SQL 2005 installation bits.
Currently i don't know anything about special SAP-specific reports.

  • Oracle returns ORA-03113 EOF error when using openquery in SQLServer 2005

    Hi
    Our Application runs batch process on every moring . One of jobs is to get all rows from an oracle database and put all data into MS Sql Server Tables. Usally It works fine But Sometimes during getting data from a certain table oracle raise Ora-03113 error during
    getting data from MSSQL Server. we use mssql openquery clause to get data from oracle We just use OPENQUERY to get all data of oracle view( i.e Select * FROM OPENQUERY(LINKEDORACLESERVER , "SELECT * FROM SCV0XE") )
    This Error comes once a month. So I don't have any idea why this error happens. I am using MSSQL 2005 SP2 , Oracle 9i 9.2.01
    And I tested both microsoft provider and oracle ole provider. Both Driver failed
    Any Solution or Advice will be appreciated...
    Regards,
    Park

    Hi bborie :
    I think I encounter same problem as you, I schedule a job of MS SSIS to do data transfer from Oracle to MS sqlserver every morning. Bt MS SQL server report "ORA-03113 : end-of-file on communication channel error ".
    And Oracle alertlog report "inbound connection timed out (ORA-3136)"
    sqlnet.log list "TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out"
    does your problem solved ?

  • SQLServer 2005 Connection Not Displaying List of Tables

    I set up a connection to SQLServer 2005 with the Connection Navigator in JDeveloper and get a "Success!" when testing the connection. When I expand the connection tree I see the schema list - but I am unable to see any tables in any schema. I see the two folders, Tables and Views, but when I try to expand either one JDeveloper doesn't display any tables.
    I know I am connecting the the database because I am able to load SQL Worksheet (Tools > SQL Worksheet) and select the connection I set up. I am able to run queries against tables in the database and get data back.
    JDeveloper: Studio Edition Version 10.1.3.3.0.4157
    I am using the sqljdbc.jar driver class: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    My connection string looks like: jdbc:sqlserver://myDatabaseServer;databaseName=myDatabaseName
    Here's the steps I take:
    1) create a new connection using the connection wizard.
    2) Name the connection myTest and choose Third party JDBC driver
    3) put in the username and password
    4) Create a new driver class for SQL server com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    5) Use that connection and put in the URL jdbc:sqlserver://myDatabaseServer;databaseName=myDatabaseName
    6) Test the connection and finish.
    7) go to the connection navigator Database node, and expand "myTest"
    8) go to any schema node and expand that.
    9) go to the Tables node and try to expand that - no tables show (although there is a delay as if a query is being run).
    10) try the same thing with the Views node - same results.
    I would appreciate any help with this - I have been struggling with it for the past few days.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    Has anyone found a consistent answer to what might be causing this?
    I am experiencing the same issue trying to create ADF Business Components against a SQL Server 2005 database. The JDBC connection string is fine, as I can access the database in the Database Navigator and run queries against the tables.
    However, the tables don't appear in the Tables folder of the dbo schema when looking in the Connections section of the Application Resources item - also the table names never appear in step 1 of the Create Business Components from Tables wizard. I have tried using a SQL Server 2005 database that was a SQL 2000 conversion and one that was a native 2005 database and I get the same results - I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.0.0 on XP SP2 and with SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.
    I am trying to evaluate ADF against a C# tool for a major project. If I can't get this to work, I am going to have to recommend Microsoft on the basis that I can't get JDeveloper to work "out-of-the-box".
    Thanks

  • Need Checklist for migrating MS SQL 2005 SP2 to MS SQL 2012

    Dear Member,
    We are in process of  migrating our MS SQL 2005 SP2 db engine / SSIS/SSRS services to 2012.Need to know steps/checklist and experiences of migration.
    I have read on Microsoft site (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-in/library/ms143393(v=sql.110).aspx), that we can only migrate SQL 2005 with SP4 to SQL 2012.Do we need to upgrade first existing 2005 SP2 to SP4 and then start migration.
    Regards,
    Mahesh

    Hello,
    Yes, you need to apply SP4 first, if you choose to perform an in-place upgrade.
    You have the option to perform a side-by-side upgrade too. Please refer to the following guide:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/5/3/9533501A-6F3E-4D03-A6A3-359AF6A79877/SQL_Server_2012_Upgrade_Technical_Reference_Guide_White_Paper.pdf
    Hope this helps.

  • How to pivot using pivot clause of sqlserver 2005 for three values

    Dear all
                Is it possible to formulate the query using pivote clause of sqlserver 2005.
    ( Table name is) BridgeHawra
    ReportDate,                 , Pole, DiameterCost,Flag,OuterDiaCost
    01 jan 2014,               ,1     ,   4.5      ,yes,6
    01 jan 2014,               ,2     ,   4.5        ,no,6
    01 jan 2014,               ,3    ,  5.5         ,no,6
    02 jan 2014,               ,4     ,  5.5        ,no,5.9
    02 jan 2014,               ,5     ,  5.5        ,no,6
    1)Pole Col will have unique value.
    o2)One pole will have one DiameterCost, but n number of DiameterCost can be there.
    I have to show a report which should show , count of poles and cost(DiameterCost* pole count of the day of each DiameterCost) for each date and DiameterCost.
    as following
    DateOfReport            ,  PoleCountofDiameterCost4.5, DiameterCost4.5, PoleCountOfDiameterCost5.5,DiameterCost5.5
    01 jan 2014              , 2
          ,(2*4.5)                        ,1
    ,(1*5.5)
    02 jan 2014              , 0/null                                      ,0/null
                              ,2
       ,(2*5.5)
    yours sincerely

    Yes it is possible though you need to use dynamic pivot technique. Dynamic pivot allow you to select/display column names dynamically.
    Below example does not use dynamic pivot,
    --create table #temp(ReportDate datetime,Pole int, DiameterCost decimal(5,2),Flag varchar(3),OuterDiaCost decimal(5,2))
    --insert into #temp values('01 jan 2014',1,4.5,'yes',6)
    --insert into #temp values('01 jan 2014',2,4.5,'no',6)
    --insert into #temp values('01 jan 2014',3,5.5,'no',6)
    --insert into #temp values('02 jan 2014',4,5.5,'no',5.9)
    --insert into #temp values('02 jan 2014',5,5.5,'no',6)
    ;with cte as (
    select ReportDate,
    DiameterCost * PoleCount as DiameterCost,
    PoleCount ,
    'PoleCountofDiameterCost'+cast(DiameterCost as varchar) column1,
    'DiameterCost'+cast(DiameterCost as varchar) column2
    from (
    select ReportDate,DiameterCost,Count(Pole) as PoleCount from #temp
    group by ReportDate,DiameterCost
    ) x
    ),cte1 as (
    select * from cte
    pivot( max(PoleCount) for column1 in ([PoleCountofDiameterCost4.50],[PoleCountofDiameterCost5.50])
    ) pvt
    pivot( max(DiameterCost) for column2 in ([DiameterCost4.50],[DiameterCost5.50])
    ) pvt1
    select ReportDate,
    Max([PoleCountofDiameterCost4.50]) [PoleCountofDiameterCost4.50],
    Max([DiameterCost4.50]) [DiameterCost4.50],
    Max([PoleCountofDiameterCost5.50]) [PoleCountofDiameterCost5.50],
    Max([DiameterCost5.50]) [DiameterCost5.50] from cte1
    group by ReportDate

  • Getting error while installing MSSQL 2005 SP2 Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1

    Hi,
    We are getting error while we are installing MSSQL 2005 SP2.
    It gives me the following error
    No Qualifying Product
    ===================
    This machine does not have a product that matches this installation package.
    I am pretty new to MSQL. Any help to solve this is much more appreciated.

    Hello,
    It seems you downloaded Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2005 alone, that download does not install a SQL Server 2005 instance.
    You might have to download and install SQL Server 2005 and then proceed to apply service packs related to that version of SQL Server.
    Hope this helps.

    Are you using the Database User Management connector and trying to provision accounts to a MS SQL Server? Can you also post the logs from the error.

    I'm new to the migration workbench. But I was successful in converting our sqlserver 2005 db to Oracle 10.1.0.3 using the Offline capture method. This isn't a terribly complex db - 100 tables, many are empty. The trouble started when I tried to convert it a second time. True, there was an additional table, and several tables were populated with more data, but I didn't even get past the 'Load Database Capture Scrpt Output' step.
    In preparation for the 2nd migration, I dropped all the SS2K5 tables from the Oracle id I was using to house the migration repository. I deleted the repository as well. So the userid was 'clean'. I set up a new directory to house the scripts that are generated.
    1. Created a new repository. Checked that the MD% tables were indeed created.
    2. Ran 'Create Database Capture Scripts'. Checked the files - they were fine.
    3. Ran the omwb_offline_capture script against the Sqlserver db, from the directory where the scripts were created. .ERR files all empty. .DAT files exist - things are fine.
    4. Logged on to the Oracle connection where the repository resides. Clicked on 'Load Database Capture scripts'. In the popup, I provided the directory path & name of the .ocp file. And the 'Capturing Database' popup displays, but the progress bar isn't moving back & forth. But, if I check in the directories where the .DAT files were generated (in 3.), I see that the .XML files now exist, with the proper timestamp. Also, if I log on to the repository userid, I see that the SS2K5 tables have now been created. So something did indeed happen. But I don't see any list of things being created. (On the original successful migration, I would see entries for nn Tables, nn Foreign Keys, etc.). One point I noticed on the successful migration - the foreign keys part of this step took 2 hours. There's only 224 foreign keys, so I thought that was odd.
    I don't know how to go further here. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi there, and thanks for the reply.
    I'm using sqldeveloper 1.5.0.53
    I tried it with a new Oracle schema as the migration repository. Same result.
    Running sqldeveloper.exe from the command line doesn't give any error. Is there a file somewhere that an error might be written to, and I'm not seeing it?
    I left the 'Data Capture' popup running overnight & this morning, it was in the same state - no progress bar action, no messages about items being captured, nothing in the 'Captured Objects' pane. So I hit 'Close', and in the message log at the bottom of the screen, I get
    oracle.dbtools.metadata.persistence.PersistableObject.doInsert(PersistableObject.java:238) <timestamp in here>
    " (the above line is repeated forever). I eventually have to kill Sqldeveloper 'hard' - eg clicking the 'x' in the upper right corner.
    Prior to killing, I can scroll to the bottom of the list of 'forever' lines, and the following 2 lines are displayed:
    OALL8 is in an inconsistent state                                                  <timestamp in here>
    oracle.dbtools.metadata.persistence.PersistenceException: Protocol violation               <timestamp in here>
    On the Logging tab I see this:
    Level          Sequence     Elapsed          Source                                   Message
    SEVERE     32          0          oracle.dbtools.raptor.nls.OracleNLSProvider     Error loading nls:Protocol violation
    I'm completely lost!
    Would I get this kind of problem if, for some reason, no db objects were present in the output generated on the Sqlserver side?
    I notice that, after shutting Sqldeveloper down hard, it doesn't restart easily. I get the product screen, then a blank screen with the 'Sqldeveloper' title bar at the top. Have to close that down hard. If I wait 10-ish minutes, I can start the product up again. This seems odd.

  • I plan to upgrade the SSRS 2005 SP2 enterprise edition in our internal web server to 2005 SP4, the Reporting server database is hosted in another sql server in sql server 2005 SP4. Do I need to do anything on the reporting server database side?

    My question is what the steps do I need to take to upgrade SSRS from 2005 SP2 to SP4.  The web server that host the SSRS is in 2005 SP2, and the OS is in window 2003.
    Our SSRS report server and report server database are in different servers.  The SSRS in the web server is in 2005 SP2 enterprise edition, the report server database is in sql server 2005 SP4 enterprise edition.
    To upgrade the SSRS in web server from 2005 sp2 to sp4, do I need to backup/restore the encryption key?  Nothing will be changed in the report server database.  We will still pointing to the same database in the current server, all
    I wanted to do is performing a inplace upgrade of SSRS from 2005 SP2 to SP4.
    Any response will be greate appreciated.  Thank you!

    Hi Lihui Chen,
    According to your description, you want to install the Services Pack 4 for SQL Server. Right?
    In SQL Server, Services Packs are used for fixing issues of current version product. It's not an Upgrade, you don't have to backup/restore your encryption key. You just need to download the Service Pack 4 on:
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 4 RTM  . Please make sure you have administrative rights on the computer to install SQL Server 2005 SP4. For more information, see links below:

  • How to use bind_variable for connectivity between Oracle and SQLServer 2005

    The code specified below could be used as an example of how to call a remote SQLServer 2005 procedure from Oracle.
    The problem I am facing is that I am not able to use the dbms_hs_passthrough.bind_variable without exceptions.
    Could someone help me out on this?
    declare
    CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.OrcaMessageTranslator
    @inp nvarchar(255),
    @outp nvarchar(255) output
    AS
    BEGIN
    select @outp = @inp+'output'
    END
    c integer;
    nr integer;
    inp varchar2(255);
    outp varchar2(255);
    sql_stmt varchar2(32767);
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line('call SQLServer procedure OrcaMessageTranslator');
    dbms_output.put_line('value of input variable inp is HowToReplaceThisValueByBindVariable ');
    sql_stmt := 'DECLARE @outp nvarchar(255)
    EXEC dbo.OrcaMessageTranslator
    @inp = N''HowToReplaceThisValueByBindVariable'',
    @outp = @outp OUTPUT
    SELECT @outp as N''@outp''';
    c := dbms_hs_passthrough.open_cursor@pp_preorca;
    dbms_hs_passthrough.parse@pp_preorca(c,sql_stmt);
    nr := dbms_hs_passthrough.fetch_row@pp_preorca(c);
    dbms_hs_passthrough.get_value@pp_preorca(c, 1, outp);
    dbms_hs_passthrough.close_cursor@pp_preorca(c);
    dbms_output.put_line('acquired value of output variable outp is '||outp);
    end;

    Hi,
    BIND_VARIABLE is useful when you have only IN variable but in your case you have IN and OUT.
    I don't know if you use the gateway for MS SQL SERVER or HSODBC/DG4ODBC but here how you can do to call a remote procedure with bind variables:
    DECLARE
    ret integer;
    inp varchar2(255);
    outp varchar2(255);
    BEGIN
    inp :='Hello World';
    outp :='';
    ret := "dbo"."in_out_proc_test"@tg4msql( inp, outp);
    dbms_output.put_line('Input value: ' ||v_ut1||' - Output value: '||v_ut2);
    END;
    The MS SQL Server procedure belongs to the user "dbo" and the database link
    being used is tg4msql.
    The following line initilaize the out variables of the procedure with an
    empty string:
    outp :=''
    I hope it helps you.

  • Migration from Sqlserver 2005 to Oracle 10g

    Hi all,
    does anyone know a tool good to migrate a sqlserver 2005 database to oracle 10g ?
    I tried Sqldeveloper and the migration of tables and datas are ok, but when I try to migrate views, functions and procedures the sqldeveloper hangs.
    regards,.
    Wander (Brazil)

    Quite frankly forget using tools for all but the simplest migration: The best you will get from a tool, provided it works, is mediocrity.
    Moving tables and data with tools works if you are using basic data types. Once you get past this, in all seriousness, it is time to roll up your sleeves and start writing code.
    The differences between the two products is profound. What constitutes a transaction different, locking different, logging different, security models different, etc.
    No tool can turn Transact SQL into nested BULK COLLECT and FORALL statements. And for many years into the future ... none will.
