Srvctl config service should be updated using srvctl modify command

Hai all,
I have created a service recently on oracle RAC
srvctl config service -d dbname -s servicename
Disconnect: false
Service role: PRIMARY
Management policy: AUTOMATIC
DTP transaction: false
AQ HA notifications: false
Failover type: NONE
Failover method: NONE
TAF failover retries: 0
TAF failover delay: 0
Connection Load Balancing Goal: LONG
Runtime Load Balancing Goal: NONE
TAF policy specification: NONE
Edition:
What is Management policy? does AQ HA notifications should be true? Do i need to update the info in srvctl command, i have already entered in tnsnames.ora
(DESCRIPTION =
(LOAD_BALANCE = ON)
(FAILOVER = ON)
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =scan name)(PORT = 1527))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME =servicename)
(FAILOVER_MODE =
(TYPE = SELECT)
(METHOD = BASIC)
(RETRIES = 0)
(DELAY = 0)
i have already have the basic, select for TAF in tnsnames.ora?But when i enter srvctl config command i don't see the config details,Do i need to modify using srvctl modify service command?
can anyone provide me a good document on services and explaining run time load balancing goal,Management policy,TAF ??

  • Enable/DIsable Services in RAC Database using srvctl

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle Database 11g on a two node RAC. For the service management on the RAC I use srvctl and I have problems in understanding why the tool offers redundant information for some services.
    To be more exact, let's say I have a two node RAC, one database called DB_NAME and one instance on each node called DB_NAME1 and DB_NAME2.
    I create a service called DB_SRV using srvctl like this:
    srvctl add service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -r DB_NAME1 -a DB_NAME2
    Then I run srvctl config to see service parameters like this:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
    So I can see that the the service DB_SRV is enabled by default, and I want to disable the service, like this:
    srvctl disable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME1
    After than I run srvctl config again:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
    Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
    So far,it all makes sense. The service is enabled to all the instances, but disabled for DB_NAME1 so this means the the service is enabled on DB_NAME2. All ok.
    But then, I want to enable the service on DB_NAME2 (although it is already enabled there) and I run:
    srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
    After than I run srvctl config again:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
    Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
    Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
    So my real question is:
    Why isn't oracle giving me an error when I run
    srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
    and instead adds this line (redundant, I would say)
    Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
    in the srvctl config output?
    Thank you in advance!

    So for me it seems redundant because if the service is enabled (this means it is enabled for every instance in the RAC), you shouldn't be able to enable it on one of that instance again.
    So in my last output I think that this line:
    Service is enabled
    is equal to this line
    Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
    If I am wrong, can someone point the difference between the two lines based on my scenario?

    Hallo. If all of your apps purchases from the same Apple ID, you can try to update them on iTunes, ways as below:
    iTunes 12 for Windows: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store
    iTunes 12 for Mac: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store

    Hello TIMMANNA,
    I read your post, and it sounds as though you'd like to learn how to update your device. I have linked to an article that will instruct you on how to do that:
    Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    iOS software updates introduce new features that let you do even more with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Be sure to keep your devices up to date so that you don't miss out on the latest features.
    Before you update
    Back up your device to iCloud or iTunes.
    If you use your device's Personal Hotspot for your computer's Internet connection, update your device wirelessly or connect your computer to another network.
    Update your device wirelessly
    The easiest way to update your device is wirelessly, also called “over the air.” Here’s how:
    Plug in your device to a power source.
    Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
    Tap Download and Install. Updates might download automatically while your device is connected to Wi-Fi and a power source.
    Tap Install, or tap Later to install the update later. If you use a passcode, you'll need to enter it before installing the update.
    If you have some free space, but not enough to update over the air, you can either update using iTunes or delete content manually from your device. Whether you use iTunes or update over the air, you'll have the same amount of free space on your device after you update.
    Some iOS software updates aren't available as over-the-air updates. VPN or proxy connections might prevent your device from contacting the iOS update servers.
    Update your device using iTunes
    If you can’t update wirelessly, or if you want to update with iTunes, follow these steps:
    Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer.
    Plug in your device to your computer.
    In iTunes, select your device.
    In the Summary pane, click Check for Update.
    Click Download and Update.
    If you don't have enough free space to update using iTunes, you'll need to delete content manually from your device.
    Find out what to do if you get other error messages while updating your device.
    Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    BobbyD

  • Can not start the cluster database using srvctl

    Created a RAC database with CRS.
    When i start the cluster database with srvctl, it appears that the database is started (i made sure using srvctl status), but when i try to login to the database using sqlplus, i get a message 'connected to idle instance'. if i try to start the database from sqlplus, i get message 'requested INSTANCE_NUMBER is busy!.
    any thoughts why i can not connect to the database using sqlplus after i start the database using srvctl?
    I stop the database using srvctl and started using traditional sqlplus, it will start with out any problem.
    what am i missing?

    check ur oracle_sid,also try to connect as sqlplus sys/****@prod as sysdba
    may be this is due to improper setting of init.ora file.
    and post ur sqlplus output here.

  • Logon trigger using SRVCTL for dataguard

    Hi All,
    I'm running Oracle 11gR2 using the 11g grid infrastructure. I've a a primary database on one machine and a physical standby on another both registered in the CRS as their role type and hence also their startup type (eg, open, mount stage)
    My issue is, when I fail over (not using broker), the CRS does not recognise that the database has swapped roles, therefore has incorrect information on what to do on startup.
    The command to change this is on the physical standby side is : -
    srvctl modify database -d <physStandby> -s open -r primary
    and on the primary side
    srvctl modify database -d <Primary> -s mount -r physical_standby
    which I can do manually. I've already got a startup trigger on the database to start and stop services on the database depending on what the role is. So I thought I would try and leverage that by executing the SRVCTL command within it as well. So as a quick run, I just created a dbms_Scheduler job in procedure and ran it.
    begin
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.create_job (
    job_name => 'TEST_JOB6',
    JOB_TYPE => 'EXECUTABLE',
    JOB_ACTION => '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/bin/srvctl',
    repeat_interval => null,
    start_date => systimestamp+0.01,
    number_of_arguments => 1
    dbms_Scheduler.set_job_Argument_value (
    job_name => 'TEST_JOB6',
    argument_position => 1,
    argument_value => 'modify database -d <physical_standby> -r PRIMARY'
    dbms_Scheduler.enable('TEST_JOB6');
    END;
    And then I run it : -
    SQL > exec dbms_scheduler.run_job('TEST_JOB6',FALSE);
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL > select additional_info from dba_scheduler_job_run_details where job_name='TEST_JOB6';
    ADDITIONAL_INFO
    <no values here>
    But when I do a srvctl config database -d <physical_standby>
    Database unique name: <physical_standby>
    Database name:
    Oracle home: /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
    Oracle user: oracle
    Spfile:
    Domain:
    Start options: mount
    Stop options: immediate
    Database role: PHYSICAL_STANDBY # and htis value hasn't changed.
    Management policy: AUTOMATIC
    Disk Groups:
    Services:
    As you can see... nothings changed but it didn't report any errors. Has anyone done somethign similar before?

    Yes, you will have to run the commands as you said manually after each role change if you do not use the Broker.
    As for your job. Hmmm, I would have thought that your job should have worked. Am I correct in assuming that you ran this job after you had switched over to the standby and it is now the Primary?
    We used this type of job in the MAA Client Failover paper (http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/MAA_WP_10gR2_ClientFailoverBestPractices.pdf) where we had to manually fire the publisher for JDBC Thin clients in 10g.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER ons_JDBCpublish AFTER DB_ROLE_CHANGE ON DATABASE
    BEGIN
    dbms_scheduler.create_job(
    job_name=>'publish_events',
    job_type=>'executable',
    job_action=>'/u01/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/cfo.sh',
    enabled=>TRUE
    END;
    It might have something to do with the argument part. Try putting the srvctl command in a script and call the wrapper script from the job and see if that works.

  • Srvctl config database won't show databases

    by using below:
    select name,network_name,creation_date,goal,dtp,AQ_HA_NOTIFICATION,clb_goal from v$services;
    I can find out the service name in this RAC
    I think the previous dba shoudl do below, to add database...(register):
    The configuration should have been performed during the database creation, but it can be performed subsequently using the following commands.
    srvctl add database -d ORCL -o /u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1

    Thank you , issue is solved.
    After i give below given command, i checked the status by
    $srvctl status database -d dbname
    $Instance mosa1 is not running in node1
    $Instance mosa1 is running in node2
    It means PROBLEM with instance2
    I have got following error message in alert_log file
    attempting to shut down the database and the database hangs at $srvctl stop database -d dbname. The alert log contains the following message:
    SHUTDOWN: Waiting for active calls to complete
    There are no other error messages in the alert log.
    +Solution Description:
    =====================
    Caveat: This note is intended for Unix platforms primarily, but we should
    address this issue on Windows platforms as well. On Windows, stopping the
    service is a valid workaround for these errors.
    Locate and kill any client connections to the database at the Unix level, as
    follows:
    1. Locate any client connections to the database using ps, and grep for any
    processes belonging to this .
    Example: ps -ef | grep V733
    2. Look for processes that include a 'Local=No' designation.
    Example: osupport 6235 1 0 Nov 24 0:01 oracleV733 (LOCAL=NO)
    3. Kill the Unix process(es) with the 'Local=No' designation.
    Example: Kill -9 6235
    Explanation:
    ============
    The database is waiting for pmon to clean up processes, but pmon is unable to
    clean them. The client connections to the server are causing the shutdown
    immediate or normal to hang. Killing them allows pmon to clean up and release
    the associated Oracle processes and resources+
    What resources are we talking about?
    1) Any non committed transactions must be rolled back
    2) Any temporary space (sort segments / lobs / session temporary tables) must be freed
    3) The session itself and any associated memory consumed by the session.
    4) Internal locks / enqueues must be cleaned up
    Often Oracle (SMON or PMON depending on whether Shared Server is used) will wait for the OS to terminate the process(es) associated with the session. I the OS never returns, or fails to terminate them, then the instance shutdown will hang with this message (Shutdown Waiting for Active Calls to Complete) Other means exist to achieve a quick shutdown.
    Thank you so much for your efforts.

  • Add listener to Grid Infrastructure using srvctl.

    Hi,
    We have a two node 11.2.0.3 Grid Infra cluster running on SLES11 Linux.
    Everything is ok with the SCAN and standard listeners.
    However we have a listener running on each node which is used by Oracle Gateway. These listeners were created manually using info provided by Oracle (i.e. definition copied to $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora and started using lsnrctl). This all works.
    These listeners are currently not managed by Grid Infra. We would like them to be.
    I thought this was easy enough using srvctl to register them with Grid Infra using...
    srvctl add listener -n mynode1 -l LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW -o $ORACLE_HOME -p 1529
    srvctl add listener -n mynode2 -l LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW -o $ORACLE_HOME -p 1529
    These commands worked but did give a warning stating that the -n flag is deprecated and will be ignored.
    This has left us with the following listener config....
    grid@MYNODE1:~> srvctl status listener -n mynode1 | grep mynode
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode1
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is not running on node(s): mynode1
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode1
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is not running on node(s): mynode1
    grid@MYNODE1:~> srvctl status listener -n mynode 2 | grep mynode
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode2
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is not running on node(s): mynode2
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode2
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is not running on node(s): mynode2
    You can see that Grid Infra knows about the listeners but they are available on both nodes. What we would like is a result like the following example....
    grid@MYNODE1:~> srvctl status listener -n mynode1 | grep mynode
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode1
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is not running on node(s): mynode1
    grid@MYNODE1:~> srvctl status listener -n mynode 2 | grep mynode
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode2
    Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is not running on node(s): mynode2
    i.e one listener registered with just the node it is running on. This used to be possible with using the -n flag but no longer works. Does anyone have any advice on how to achive this in 11gR2.
    Any input appreciated,
    Regards
    ma365

    Hi get the info of the listener and the scan -[listeners]
    Execute the statements from the GRID infrastructure.
    srvctl config listener [-l listener_name] [-a] this gives the info how the listener is register in to the OCR.
    alternative:
    Execute the steps to add a listener.
    srvctl add listener -l crmlistener -p TCP:1533 -o {CRS_HOME}
    srvctl enable listener -l crmlistener
    srvctl start listener -l crmlistener
    srvctl config listener -l crmlistener -a
    lsnrctl status crmlistener
    See what the result of this exercise is, working then convert to this method

    Is it possible to set multiple values of TNS_ADMIN In Oracle EBS Running on RAC database using srvctl setenv? since EBS TNS is usually in the form$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/<context_name> thus the two nodes are bound to have different <context_name>....

    If you intend to manage an Oracle E-Business Suite database with SRVCTL, you must perform the steps under "3.7.4 Update SRVCTL for New listener.ora" section in (Using Oracle 11g Release 2 Real Application Clusters with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (Doc ID 823587.1)).

    Hi,
    My company is using a RAC on Oracle 11gR2.

    Why is it different ? What does it means ?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi, thanks for the quick answer !
    I think my post is a little misleading. (i was too busy obfuscating)
    In the first documentation it's the same adress twice
    Nom d'adresse IP virtuelle SCAN : scan1, IP : /10.12.2.206/10.12.2.206
    In the second documentation
    Nom d'adresse IP virtuelle SCAN : scan1, IP : /<dns name for the adress scan>/10.12.2.206
    I dont understand the meaning of this difference.
