Enable/DIsable Services in RAC Database using srvctl
Hello,
I am using Oracle Database 11g on a two node RAC. For the service management on the RAC I use srvctl and I have problems in understanding why the tool offers redundant information for some services.
To be more exact, let's say I have a two node RAC, one database called DB_NAME and one instance on each node called DB_NAME1 and DB_NAME2.
I create a service called DB_SRV using srvctl like this:
srvctl add service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -r DB_NAME1 -a DB_NAME2
Then I run srvctl config to see service parameters like this:
srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
And I get the output:
Service name: DB_SRV
Service is enabled
Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
Available instances: DB_NAME2
So I can see that the the service DB_SRV is enabled by default, and I want to disable the service, like this:
srvctl disable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME1
After than I run srvctl config again:
srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
And I get the output:
Service name: DB_SRV
Service is enabled
Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
Available instances: DB_NAME2
Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
So far,it all makes sense. The service is enabled to all the instances, but disabled for DB_NAME1 so this means the the service is enabled on DB_NAME2. All ok.
But then, I want to enable the service on DB_NAME2 (although it is already enabled there) and I run:
srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
After than I run srvctl config again:
srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
And I get the output:
Service name: DB_SRV
Service is enabled
Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
Available instances: DB_NAME2
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
So my real question is:
Why isn't oracle giving me an error when I run
srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
and instead adds this line (redundant, I would say)
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
in the srvctl config output?
Thank you in advance!
So for me it seems redundant because if the service is enabled (this means it is enabled for every instance in the RAC), you shouldn't be able to enable it on one of that instance again.
So in my last output I think that this line:
Service is enabled
is equal to this line
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
If I am wrong, can someone point the difference between the two lines based on my scenario?

Not able to stop database using srvctl
When i stop database using srvctl from node1.. "srvctl stop database -d mosa" it does not stop. I tried "srvctl stop database -d mosa -o immediate" but to no luck. Could anybody help me on this issue.
OS = HP-UX
Database = Oracle 9i
Instance1 = mosa1
Instance2 = mosa2
node1 = hp1
node2 = hp2
DB Size = 50GB
I have opened another session to check srvctl status
$srvctl status database -d mosa
Instance mosa1 is not running on node hp_data1
Instance mosa2 is running on node hp_data2
NOTE:- BEfore i stop database, i had stopped listener.
Regards,
VikharThank you , issue is solved.
After i give below given command, i checked the status by
$srvctl status database -d dbname
$Instance mosa1 is not running in node1
$Instance mosa1 is running in node2
It means PROBLEM with instance2
I have got following error message in alert_log file
attempting to shut down the database and the database hangs at $srvctl stop database -d dbname. The alert log contains the following message:
SHUTDOWN: Waiting for active calls to complete
There are no other error messages in the alert log.
+Solution Description:
=====================
Caveat: This note is intended for Unix platforms primarily, but we should
address this issue on Windows platforms as well. On Windows, stopping the
service is a valid workaround for these errors.
Locate and kill any client connections to the database at the Unix level, as
follows:
1. Locate any client connections to the database using ps, and grep for any
processes belonging to this .
Example: ps -ef | grep V733
2. Look for processes that include a 'Local=No' designation.
Example: osupport 6235 1 0 Nov 24 0:01 oracleV733 (LOCAL=NO)
3. Kill the Unix process(es) with the 'Local=No' designation.
Example: Kill -9 6235
Explanation:
============
The database is waiting for pmon to clean up processes, but pmon is unable to
clean them. The client connections to the server are causing the shutdown
immediate or normal to hang. Killing them allows pmon to clean up and release
the associated Oracle processes and resources+
What resources are we talking about?
1) Any non committed transactions must be rolled back
2) Any temporary space (sort segments / lobs / session temporary tables) must be freed
3) The session itself and any associated memory consumed by the session.
4) Internal locks / enqueues must be cleaned up
Often Oracle (SMON or PMON depending on whether Shared Server is used) will wait for the OS to terminate the process(es) associated with the session. I the OS never returns, or fails to terminate them, then the instance shutdown will hang with this message (Shutdown Waiting for Active Calls to Complete) Other means exist to achieve a quick shutdown.
Thank you so much for your efforts.

Will Nodeapps register the listener service of RAC database?
Hi Friends,
In 10g RAC will Nodeapps register the listener service of RAC database?
because if i bring down nodeapps the listenener is also going down
ora....C1.lsnr application OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.rac1.gsd application OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.rac1.ons application OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.rac1.vip application OFFLINE OFFLINE
Regards,
DBHi,
This is expected behavior. The default listener (listener_nodename) could be starte and stopped with nodeapps.
srvctl listener is mainly for specific listeners that are other than default.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b14197/whatsnew.htm#sthref6
If you create additional Listeners with non-default names, in other words, with names other than the name listener_nodename where nodename is the name of the node on which the Listener resides, then you must start and stop these Listeners with SRVCTL commands.

Can not start the cluster database using srvctl
Created a RAC database with CRS.
When i start the cluster database with srvctl, it appears that the database is started (i made sure using srvctl status), but when i try to login to the database using sqlplus, i get a message 'connected to idle instance'. if i try to start the database from sqlplus, i get message 'requested INSTANCE_NUMBER is busy!.
any thoughts why i can not connect to the database using sqlplus after i start the database using srvctl?
I stop the database using srvctl and started using traditional sqlplus, it will start with out any problem.
what am i missing?check ur oracle_sid,also try to connect as sqlplus sys/****@prod as sysdba
may be this is due to improper setting of init.ora file.
and post ur sqlplus output here.

Invoke Web Service in 9i database using UTL_HTTP
I am trying to explore Oracle's UTL_HTTP package to invoke external web service without having to use java stored procedure. You need to use Adaptive Web Service Model for that.
Check the tuorial in the link for accessing web services.

Load Balancing and Failover with Oracle 10gR2 RAC -
Hi,
I've been having a lot of problems since upgrading to iOS5 and enablind iCloud on my iPhone 4:
- I've had both Contacts and the Phone app freeze repeatedly. Contacts often freezes when going back up to the "Groups" view, and I have to force-quit it to continue using it. I've also had repeated crashes of Phone when trying to view contacts.
- Whenever I try to enable or disable services to sync in the iCloud settings screen, it hangs forever in the twirling "Turning on/off" notification. I've left it running for at least an hour once and it never finished. I have to force-quit the Settings app, and the change I request never gets applied.
I've tried restoring the phone from backup and also resetting all preferences, but the problem persists ("reset all preferences" doesn't seem to erase the iCloud settings).
I'm this close to resetting my phone to zero and reinstall everything by hand, but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone knows of a way to forcefully disable iCloud on the iPhone, or anyone has seen these types of problems before.
Thanks!Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can see what space is available to you on the phone at settings > general > usage > storage. It's the phone that needs the space (a little over 3 GB) to install iOS7.
Back ups or the space used by them isn't really relevant for installing iOS7, but that's not something you can see at iCloud.com. -
Can a non-RAC database use SCAN ?
I have a 4 node 11gR2 cluster which has all different kinds of versions ( 10g ,11gR1 & 11gR2 ) on both RAC & NON RAC .
I know for sure that I can use SCAN for non 11gR2 databases for RAC databases .
For standalone db's It seems like it is working intermitently but is this supported ? the reason why I ask is there is no documentation on how to configure or troubleshoot for non-RAC using SCAN .
Appreciate your help
RaviI was trying to find some information about the issue, but i think SCAN is really designed for RAC databases.
You don't really need to use the SCAN for what you just described:
you can update the client tnanames with the vip addresses of all nodes with FAILOVER = ON
Example:
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=node1-vip)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=node2-vip)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=node3-vip)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=node4-vip)(PORT=1521))
(FAILOVER = ON)
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=DB.WORLD))
However, you can try this (i never tried it, but i think it should work):
- See the document http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10813/undrstnd.htm#BEICFAIC
+... If you do not set LOCAL_LISTENER, then the Database Agent automatically keeps the database associated with the Grid home's node listener updated...+
So don't set the LOCAL_LISTENER in your db.
- Update the client tnsnames with the SCAN if the version of the database is 11.2.0.1
- Try to see if it works fine
- Move your db to another node and try again -
Cannot start RAC DB using srvctl start database
Hello Fellows,
We used to have a 10.1.0.4 RAC DB on top of CRS 10.1.0.4 on top of Sun cluster 3.1 on both Sun Solaris SPARC 64-bit 5.9 nodes.
We :
- Unregisted the current RAC DB from the 10.1.0.4 CRS.
- Removed the CRS 10.1.0.4 permanently and cleanly
- Installed a new Clusterware 10.2.0.1 and patched to 10.2.0.4 + patch 8705958.
- CRS servcies are healthy and up :
$ crs_status.sh
ora.tibisdb1.LISTENER_TIBISDB1.lsnr ONLINE ....etc for all other services
Now we are trying to upgrade the RAC DB from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.
When i started the DBUA it i chose the cluster mode and then DBUA tried to startup both DB instances but it failed. To reproduce this, i registed the databse TIBIS with the 2 instances to the CRS and then tried to startup the DB but it failed:

Setting TNS_ADMIN using srvctl setenv In EBS Running on RAC
Is it possible to set multiple values of TNS_ADMIN In Oracle EBS Running on RAC database using srvctl setenv? since EBS TNS is usually in the form$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/<context_name> thus the two nodes are bound to have different <context_name>....
If you intend to manage an Oracle E-Business Suite database with SRVCTL, you must perform the steps under "3.7.4 Update SRVCTL for New listener.ora" section in (Using Oracle 11g Release 2 Real Application Clusters with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (Doc ID 823587.1)).

Unable to call WSS (WS-Security) enabled Web Service using UTL_DBWS
We are attempting to call a WSS (WS-Security) enabled Web Service from PL/SQL using the UTL_DBWS package (see [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/u_dbws.htm#CHDIDGJH] ). We are doing this in similar fashion to [http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/utl_dbws10g.php] with calls to utl_dbws.create_service, utl_dbws.create_call and utl_dbws.invoke.
Using this method we can successfully call an unsecured Web Service, but calls to WSS-enabled Web Services fail. We are currently using Oracle Database 10.2.0.3.
The failure we are getting is:
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: javax.xml.rpc.soap.SOAPFaultException:
com.sun.xml.wss.XWSSecurityException: Message does not conform to configured
policy ( AuthenticationTokenPolicy(S) ): No Security Header found;nested
exception is com.sun.xml.wss.XWSSecurityException:
com.sun.xml.wss.XWSSecurityException: Message does not conform to configured
policy ( AuthenticationTokenPlicy(S) ): No Security Header found
Apparently UTL_DBWS does not support calling WSS enabled services, although this doesn't appear to be an officially recognised position. Does anyone know if Oracle are planning to support this soon (if ever)? Looking at Re: Calling WS from PL/SQL using WS-security suggests that support has been considered before, but not yet realised.
Thanks,
TomHaving raised a Service Request with Oracle support on this, I got the following response from Oracle Development (On unpublished bug [8542959|https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=BUG&p_id=8542959]):
Development has confirmed that WS-Security is not supported through UTL_DBWS. They have also acknowledged that this is not documented and they will change the official Oracle documentation will reflect this fact. From what is being stated, it would appear that there is no plan to support the use of WS-Security through UTL_DBWS in any release in the near future.
So, in short, without developing your own home-grown SOAP request, there is no way to call a WSS enabled web service from within PL/SQL.

How to find out which RAC service a user is using.
Hi,
Our RAC database uses clustering services.
How do I find out to which RAC service a database user is setup for?
I know how to check what it is currently using by looking at GV$SESSION. But i want to check what service a user was originally setup?
I cant seem to find the info i need on the following views:
GV$ACTIVE_SERVICES
DBA_SERVICES
GV$SESSION
am i missing out something?
thanks,There is a service_name column in gv$session that should show what service is being used by a connection.
Sorry...reread and see that you know about gv$session...I'm not really sure what you mean by originally setup or how long ago you are trying to look for but in v$active_session_history there is a column that is service_hash that will join to dba_services column name_hash..so if you can find some old session from that user and get the service_hash you can get the service name from dba_services.

For 4 node RAC database on Exadata x3-2, how many scan IP I should assign?
We want to build a 4 node RAC 11gr23 on exadata x3-2. Oracle only recommend 3 ip for scan listener. by previous observation of non-exadata RAC, seems each node will spread randomly one Scan Ip address. So if we assign 3 ip to one scan listener, how that will work on a 4-node RAC?
ThanksYou're welcome
by Load balancing
Oracle RAC databases increase load balancing by using the single client access name (SCAN) for the cluster to balance connections among all instances in a cluster database. SCAN also adds location independence for the databases, so that client configuration does not have to depend on which nodes are running a particular database or database instance.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e48195/undrstnd.htm#RIWIN607
Based on the environment, the following actions occur when you use SCAN to connect to an Oracle RAC database using a service name. The numbered actions correspond to the arrows shown in Figure 7-1.

How do i enable web services on 8600
how do i enable web services on 8600
Are you using a router that has you connected to the printer through Ethernet or wireless? If so, there should be an icon in the top left corner of the the printer display screen that resembles a piece of paper with a blue target behind that.
