SRW224G4P uplink to catalyst 3560 switch trunk
I have many SRW224g4p switchs,and I use a catalyst 3560 for a core switch.
The SRW224g4p uplink to 3560 switch
What can I config the port of the 3560 to SRW224g4p(Their are many of vlans in my network)
and config the port of SRW224g4p to 3560's port
ps:config trunk port problem
Hi Wei,
Are you working on the Linksys SRW224G4P or the replacement Cisco (300 Series) SRW224G4P-K9-NA? Can you attach your 3560 Truk Port Configuration along with the VLAN Configuration?
Thanks,
Kevin

Cascade Catalyst 3560 switch for loaded traffic
I have a layer 3 Catalyst switch 3560 with 24 FE interfaces.
I need to pump traffic from traffic generator into port 1 and propagate it to other ports; the last port will be connected back to the traffic generator.
I suppose that I need to cascade some of the switchports but how do I configure the catalyst switch for this setup? Is it making use of routed port and static routing?Hi Ankur,
Thanks for the reply.
The traffic generator are layer 3 interfaces which I can assign IP address.
You mentioned that I do not need any routing, but I require traffic coming from the traffic generator(e.g FE1) going into switchport 1 to traverse through the rest of the switchports before exiting from the last switchport back to the traffic generator(e.g FE2). Therefore, I need advice on how to setup the catalyst switch to achieve this.If I assign ip address for this traffic to end at the traffic generator-FE2, the generated traffic will enter the switch at switchport 1 and directly exit from the last switchport without any traversing done. Btw, do I need to cascade my switch with cross cable in this aspect?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Limit bandwidth per user/computer using Catalyst 3560 switch
Hi -
Can someone help me getting started (if at all possible...) with enabling controll of used bandwidth at a "per-user"-level.
I wonder if it possible to do this dynamicly with respect to the overall demand from other users.
I've searching a lot, but I'm missing the terminology :)

To my knowledge, what you want to accomplish isn't possible on a 3560.
You can police at ingress, and if you use a policy map, you can police different "known" IPs.
What you could do, is police user ports ingress at some nomimal bandwidth, and if exceeded, mark the packets. Then on egress, you could direct those packets to an different egress queue with a lower bandwidth guarantee than the normal queue. -
Dynamic VLANs on a Catalyst 3560
Hello,
I'm looking for a solution that would enable me to assign users to a specific VLAN based on MAC address. I'm using a Catalyst 3560 switch. Is there something similar to VMPS that would allow me to do this? I would like to run VMPS, but it looks like you need a VMPS server (catalyst 5000) to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! They can be is the answer; however they don't have to be. Not all Cisco IP Phones have an 802.1x Supplicant (I assume you are using Cisco IP Phones and Voice VLANs?), only the newer ones do I think (7941, 7961, 7970 etc). I think by default the Voice VLAN on the access port does not do 802.1x authentication so the Phones bypass any 802.1x authentication.
If you have non-Cisco IP Phones then there are some more hurdles like VLAN detection and depending on the Vendor this can be achieved in a number of ways. It's should all be possible though.

CISCO CATALYST 3560 SFP INTERCONNECT CABLE
What is the advantage of using this SFP cable over a 1000BaseT GBIC and daisy chaining the switches together?
Just curious???
Thanks! The advantage comes down to cost. Whether you can realize this advantage depends on the distance between the two Catalyst 3560 switches.
If the distance is less than or equal to 50cm, then one SFP Interconnect Cable (CAB-SFP-50CM=) at US$250 is a much less expensive way to connect the two switches than two 1000BASE-T SFP (GLC-T=) at US$395 each = US$790 plus a Cat5 or better UTP Gigabit Ethernet crossover cable.
If the distance is greater than 50cm but less than or equal to 100m, then the 1000BASE-T SFPs are your least expensive option. The alternative is MM or SM fiber.
If you have to connect a Catalyst 3560 SFP interface to another Catalyst switch that takes GBICs, then the SFP Interconnect Cable is not even an option. From 0 to 100m, 1000BASE-T SFP and GBIC (WS-G5483=) would be your least expensive way to go.
If there's any chance you will be redeploying these switches somewhere else in the future, you may want to put the 1000BASE-T SFPs in now. That way you'll already have them when you need them later. -

Catalyst 3560 24 port-PoE switch powers on but no STAT LED and console not responding
I rebooted my Catalyst 3560 24 port PoE switch and when it turned on only the STAT LED went green the other LEDs are off. I get no response from the console port using putty and the cable I used before this happened. I tested the cable on another switch and it works fine with putty. What can I do with this switch?
This unit was purchased before I came to our company. There is no support or maint contract. I'm sure the unit is several years old...we'll call the vendor and see what they'll do..not expecting much.

Assistance Disabling BPDU Guard: Catalyst 3560 CG
Good Morning Guys,
Here's the situation:
Configuring cisco wireless bridges - every time I get both devices up in my wireless controller, the port my root bridge is connected to on the catalyst 3560 CG switch gets disabled with the following error:
"SPANTREE - 2- BLOCK_BPDUGUARD: Received BPDU on port, *** with BPDU Guard enabled, disabling port."
I've done some research on BPDU Guard and I've tried applying the following commands to no avail:
1. errdisable detect cause bpdguard shutdown vlan (global and config mode)
2. spanning-tree bpduguard disable (configuration mode at the interface)
any assistance to prevent the port from shutting down would be greatly appreciated.
ChristianYou should double check the interface configs on both. It is shutting the port down because it is receiving BPDUs. This could be cause your switch port is configured for access but the WLC is configured as trunk...

We have a 1000v switch uplinked to nexus 5K and Catalyst 4500 switches. I can see all the VEMs(ESX servers) connected to the nexus 5K uplink switch and everything seems working fine. However, I am not able to see the VEMs uplinked to Cisco Catalyst 4500 switch. The "show Module" command shows all VEMs connected to the nexus 5K uplink switches but not the Catalyst 4500 switches. The log file on the 1000V shows the following:
7 09:36:21 NX-1K-100 %VMS-5-DVS_HOSTMEMBER_INFO: A host with name=[IP ADD. OF ESX SERVER] and uuid=[34393232-3035-3255-5839-3430303
03537] is added to the dvs. The host is not found as a module in the VSM configuration.
If anyone have run into similar situation, plpease let me know how you handled it.
ThanksHi bharga,
I did all the checking....
1) all important VLANS including the control vlan are not blocked (No STP issue)
2) The Nexus 5K and the 4500 switch are in layer layer 2 ( They are not directly connected but are in layer two domain or no hop between them)
3) the ESX Server hosting the VSM is connected to the Nexus 5K
Here is some of the show commands that i run on the 4500 switch that is connects the ESX server to the rest ofd the network:-

Configuring the Catalyst 6500 Switch for IPS Inline Operation of the IDSM
I understand how to configure the Catalyst 6500 switch so that the monitoring ports are access ports in two separate VLAN's for inline operation.
However, I don't see any documentation that describes how the desired VLAN traffic gets forced through the IPS.
In promiscuous mode, you can use VACL's to copy/capture and forward the desired traffic to the IDSM for analysis. I'm not seeing how to get the desired traffic through the IPS.
Note that the host 6500 is running native IOS 12.2(18)SXE.
Thanks for any assistance.A tranparent firewall is a fairly good comparison.
Let's say you have vlan 10 with 100 PCs and 1 Router for the network.
If you want to apply a transparent firewall on that vlan you can not simply put one interface of the firewall on vlan 10. Nothing would go through the firewall.
Instead you have to create a new vlan, let's say 1010. Now you place one interface of the firewall on vlan 10 and the other on vlan 1010. Still nothing is going through the firewall. So now you move that Router from vlan 10 to vlan 1010. All you do is change the vlan, the IP Address and netmask of the router stay the same.
The transparent firewall bridges vlan 10 and vlan 1010. The PCs on vlan 10 ae still able to communicate to and through the router, but must go through the transparent firewall to do so.
The firewall is transparent because it does not IP Route between 2 vlans, instead the same IP subnet exists on both vlans and the firewall transparently beidges traffic between the 2 vlans.
The transparent firewall can do firewalling between the PCs on vlan 10 and the Router on vlan 1010. But is PC A on vlan 10 talks to PC B on vlan 10, then the transparent firewall does not see and can not block that traffic.
An InLine sensor is very similar to the transparent firewall and will bridge between the 2 vlans. And similarly an InLine sensor is able to InLine monitor traffic between PCs on vlan 10 and the Router on vlan 1010, but will not be able to monitor traffic between 2 PCs on vlan 10.
Now the router on one vlan and the PCs on the other vlan is a typical deployment for inline sensors, but your vlans do not Have to be divided that way. You could choose to place some servers in one vlan, and desktop PCs in the other vlan. You subdivide the vlans in what ever method makes sense for your deployment.
Now for monitoring multiple vlans the same principle still applies. You can't monitor traffic between machines on the same vlan. So for each of the vlans you want to monitor you will need to create a new vlan and split the machines between the 2 vlans.
In your case with Native IOS you are limited to only 1 pair of vlans for InLine monitoring, but your desired deployment would require 20 vlan pairs.
The 5.1 IPS software has now the capability to handle the 20 pairs, but the Native IOS software does not have the capability to send the 40 vlans (20 pairs) to the IDSM-2.
The Native IOS changes are in testing right now, but I have not heard a release date for those changes.
Now Cat OS has already made these changes. So here is a basic breakdown of what you could do in Cat OS and you can use in preparation for a Native IOS deployment when it gets released.
For vlans 10-20, and 300-310 that you want monitored you will need to break each of those vlans in to 2 vlans.
Let's say we make it simple and add 500 to each vlan in order to create the new vlan for each pair.
So you have the following pairs:
10/510, 11/511, 12/512, etc...
300/800, 301/801, 302/802, etc....
You set up the sensor port to trunk all 40 vlans:
set trunk 5/7 10-20,300-310,510-520,800-810
(Then clear all other vlans off that trunk to keep things clean)
In the IDSM-2 configuration create the 20 inline vlan pairs on interface GigabitEthernet0/7
Nw on each of the 20 original vlans move the default router for each vlan from the original vlan to the 500+ vlan.
At this point you should ordinarily be good to go. The IDSM-2 won't be monitoring traffic that stays within each of the original 20 vlans, but Would monitor traffic getting routed in and out of each of the 20 vlans.
Because of a switch bug you may have to have an additional PC moved to the same vlan as the router if the switch/MSFC is being used as the router and you are deploying with an IDSM-2. -

The trunk ports are working just fine. I have configured all necessary remote management with no issues. However, my access ports are not working. I have set them up exactly the same as the adjacent switch A and it works just fine, but the same configuration on the new switch has not been able to pull IP information. I have provided information as to how the switch access ports are configured on both Switch A (working) and Switch B (not working). I should note that I tried this with a Cisco 7940 phone and it got stuck on "configuring IP" then I tried it with my laptop and it pulled a 169 IP address. Both were direct connections into switch B. When I run a show mac-address-table, neither device shows up in the table. Only the gig port MACs. Any thoughts? Please let me know if you need any more information.

So with this new information, and with my trunk configurations above, what did you mean by a disconnect on the trunk? -
1142N NON_CISCO-NO_CDP_RECEIVED with 3560 switch
I thought the 3560 switches, the 8 port and 24 port are 802.3af standard switches? When I connect 1142N radios to them I get the no cdp error and the radios are disabled. I have 17 of these that I converted to LAP, and I got the issue both before and after upgrading to LAP from AP. It's not like I disabled CDP on the switches.
I may have found the problem. I thought I had initially connected to a switchport that was just setup as a switchport access vlan, with no other configurations on it, and after looking at the port found it was a trunk port, which should work, and does for the other AP's I worked with, but not the 1142N.
I took one of the other AP's that is connected to the test switch I am using to setup the WLC and AP's and connected that to one of the unconfigured ports, with default settings and the radios both powered up and I saw CDP neighbor detail,
I removed spanning-tree portfast from the trunk port, and reconnected the AP to that port, I saw it negotiated full power, but I dont see neighbor information. I had to console in and do a no shut on dot11radio 0 for it to come up on all 3 of them.
I went back and pulled that new one out of the box and reconnected to the interface I used before after removing portfast, still had the same problem, then removed the trunk configuration, and rebooted. Now I see

I took one of the other AP's that I boxed up and connected it to the same port, this was a converted AP to LAP.
Fa0/6 auto on 15.4 AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 3 15.4
Futher puzzlement, plugged that last AP into the test switch which is setup to mimic a remote location with trunk ports for FlexConnect, and after the radio powered up, and joined the controller, saw this.

Why would radio 0 be admin down? It is enabled on the WLC. I went into the AP and did a no shut on it too. Not sure what is going on with this, never ran into this sort of issue before. -
Cisco 3560 switch| mls qos trust dscp question
Hi everybody
Hi everybody .
Please consider the following example:
3560 sw f1/1--------trunk---SW2
3560 sw
f1/1
mls qos trust dscp
3560 is using default cos-dscp map, assume a 3560 receives a frame carrying IP packet on f1/1 with COS 4, what will 3560 switch do?
1) will it use its default cos --dscp map ( cos 4--.dscp 32) and rewrite 32 in dscp field of the packet in the frame and provide PHB for dscp 32 ?
Much appreciated!!
Have a great weekend.Hi
No it will not trust the cos value, because You have configured to trust dcsp. So, the switch will trust the dcsp value in the incoming frame.
