SSDT BI and SSIS design surface behaviour

I haven't used any SSIS projects in a few months, but when authoring one today I found that there are bugs in the drag/drop while designing that make it almost unusable. In general, clicking and holding on any given item in the design surface will cause
it to jitter back and forth until you release the mouse button, or the item will jump to the top left corner of the design surface and not allow you to move it anywhere else. In the second scenario all connectors to the item also disappear when you release
the mouse button.
I am using:
VS 2012 11.0.60610.01 Updated 3
SQL Server Data Tools 11.1.30618.1
SQL Server Integration Services Designer 11.0.3369.0
SQL Server Reporting Services Designers 11.0.3369.0
SQL Server Analysis Services Designer 11.0.3369.0

Hi K Dahl,
Sorry for the delay.
Does the issue only occur with the SQL Server Integration Services project or also occur with other BI projects? Here, I suggest that you run the Visual Studio in Safe mode:
1. Click Start -> Visual Studio 2012 -> Visual Studio tools -> Visual Studio Command Prompt to start the command line tool.
2. Run the command to see whether the issue occurs in Visual Studio Safe Mode:
    devenv /safemode
If it can run properly, please run the following command lines and run the Visual studio again to see whether it can solve this issue:
   devenv /resetSettings
Hope this helps.

  • SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 (SSDT BI) and SSIS on SQL Server 2012

    This great blog entry titled
    SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 (SSDT BI), link below, highlights the lack of support for SSIS projects using SQL Server 2012, VS 2013 and SSDT BI for VS 2013. I see there is a new version
    on SSDT BI for VS 2013 (12.0.2430.0, File Name: SSDTBI_x86_ENU.exe, Date Published: 10/27/2014) link below.
    Does this version support SSIS projects using SQL Server 2012 using VS 2013 and SSDT BI for VS 2013?

    Hi cjrinpdx,
    According to the picture, it seems that we can use SSIS 2012 support is not included in SSDT-BI for VS 2013. And based on the previous versions, SSIS always different from SSRS, SSAS.
    SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2012 supports versions of SQL Server as follows:
    SSAS project can target SQL 2012 or lower
    SSRS project can target SQL 2012 or lower
    SSIS project can target only SQL 2012
    The following blog is for your reference:

  • Ssis data flow item and ssis control flow item tab missing in choose toolbox item from ssdt 2010

    ssis data flow item and ssis control flow item  tab missing in choose toolbox item from ssdt 2010

    I have the same problem.
     When i click on tools -> choose tools Items dialog box, Control Flow and Data Flow Tab are missing.
    I've just worked with SQL Server Data Tools and SQL Server 2012 and these tabs are not missing.
    i think this is a problem installing SQL Server.
    I've not yet  found a solution.

  • SSIS 2005 and SSIS 2012 Have Different Data Flow Output

    Hi Guys,
    I'm currently converting our SSIS 2005 packages to 2012 and I'm finding an odd difference on the Data Flow Output when it imports a txt file to a table.
    We have a pipe delimited file ( contains a totals on the bottom row).
    CATNO|Title|Total Stk Avail|Stk on Order|Rank|QOH|Allocated|Reserved|BackOrd|WIP|Cleared|Held
    CATNUM000067|Fast and Furious|9804|0||9804|0|0|0|0|0|0
    CATNUM000068|Frozen|0|0||0|0|0|0|0|0|0
    CATNUM000029|Brave|0|0||0|0|0|0|0|0|0
    CATNUM000029|Brave with Kinect|0|0||0|0|0|0|0|0|0
    CATNUM000029|Big Hero|0|0||0|0|0|0|0|0|0
    CATNUM000057|Transformers|27376|0||27376|0|0|0|0|0|0
    CATNUM000013|James Bond|121|0||121|0|0|0|0|0|0
    ,Total Available Stock,524259
    And these are the settings for the flat file connection
    In SSIS 2005, the total rows are being omitted automatically by the data flow. Basically only 7 rows are inserted whereas in SSIS 2012. 8 rows were inserted including the totals.
    if we think about it, SSIS 2012 is correct since we just feed what's ever in the file.
    But on the conversion and testing perspective, it's now harder as there's discrepancies between those 2 version.
    I just like to check if there's any other discrepancies in terms on results/output between SSIS 2005 and SSIS 2012
    Many thanks.

    Hi Vinxster,
    After testing the issue that Flat File Connection Manager cannot handle file with total row in my SQL Server 2005 environment, I can reproduce it.
    Based on my research, the issue is caused by the Column Delimiter gets first preference and then Row delimiter. This is by design in SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2.
    Good news is that the issue is fixed in SQL Server Data Tools which comes with SQL Server 2012. In SQL Server 2012, by default, the Flat File Connection Manager always checks for a row delimiter in unquoted data, and starts a new row when a row delimiter
    is found. This enables the connection manager to correctly parse files with rows that are missing column fields.
    If you want to fix the issue in SQL Server 2005, there is a sample component posted to the CodePlex that might help you with this:

  • Design Studio behaviour according to query read mode property

    How does Design studio behave according to the Read Mode property set here in SAP : (RSRT transaction, query properties) :
    It seems like Business Objects tools (Analysis, Webi, …) don’t behave in the same way according to these properties, even if they all use the BICS protocol. What is Design Studio behavior?
    In fact, I’ve tested 2 queries, both with many free characteristics (because I swap dimensions in my charts thanks to scripting), but
    one with default values on CALMONTH (12 last months),
    one with a customer exit variable that I set with the exact same values (12 last months),
    when analysing the behaviour in RSRT I see that choosing the H option will add a where clause to the 1st query, “SQL” seems then identical in
    both cases, and statistics are the same (see below). With A option, the 1st query statistics are worse and the 2nd one statistics stay the same.
    So knowing if Design Studio takes this option into account is important.
    At the beginning, I was expecting that Design Studio would retrieve more data cells with the default values query (all months are retrieved and some kind of local filter is applied to display only the 12 last months) than with the variable query (only the 12 last months areretrieved, no need to apply any additional filter, and if the end user wants some other months then the script has to update the variable, and waiting time would then be worse). I guess it could be true with read mode option set to A.
    I know that some answers have been given on this subject, saying that even updating only default values thanks to the filter panel was implying a roundtrip to the back end, but I can only understand this statement if H option is taken into account by Design Studio…
    I would like to better understand exactly what is Design Studio behaviour, and if there is any benefit to use variables to set queries filters (filter panel usage is not straightforward then), or if default values and native filter panel usage is ok as it has the exact same consequences on data volumes retrieved, back end roundtrips and query performances.
    I guess that the answer depends on the capacity Design Studio has or not to take the Read Mode option into account.
    Thanks in advance!

    So DS takes this property into account.
    If the read mode is set to H, then playing with the filter panel has the same consequences on data read and data transported statistics (safety belt limit statistic too) than the effects BEx variables would have.
    So
    - If, as I do, you hate the look of the prompts screen
    - and/or if you find that using BEx variables is not optimal for filter panel management (because if you use the same datasource for the filter panel as for the chart, values appearing in the filter panel will be filtered according to the BEx variable, then the end user can't select a value out of this restricted context)
    - and/or if you can afford a first run of the query with some default values instead (i.e. if your queries are performant)
    then I find it more user friendly to offer your end users to bypass this ugly prompts screen and to directly access a beautiful dashboard based on some default values, that may be interesting to them, values that they can change in a second time having access to the whole list of values in the filter panel... Furthermore, it may take the same time, with performant queries, to set the prompts than to run the query with some default values and to change them thanks to the filter panel.

  • Can you help me with Page Layout and/or Design ideas for a software manual?

    Greetings,
    I am a new InDesign user, and am converting a software manual that I created in MS Word into InDesign. It will be converted to a pdf to view online. I have the basics (3 master pages, page numbers, running headers, 2column pages with text boxes on the left and screenshots on the right), but I want to make it look prettier. Could you please give me some ideas on page layout and/or design to make it look better or more creative?
    A few things that I am considering: borders around screenshots, a watermark, a logo next to the page numbers, different size/type of fonts, etc.
    I am open to any suggestions to make this look better. However, please understand that I am new to InDesign. With that being said, please tell me a few steps when you mention your tips. Thank you!

    Take a look at a few websites on Cannons of Page Construction.
    I think the best idea for you is to look at a few software manuals and take tips from how they accomplished the layouts.
    I'm not saying to copy them - but rather see what works and doesn't work, what worked for them might not necessarily work for you - research some layouts.
    Fonts/type/sizes etc. are pretty much ambigious without context - is this a software manual for kids (soft cuddly big fonts easy to read), technical (small, tight spacing etc), Adult friendly (smooth, crisp clear, well spaced), elderly (large elegant fonts).
    It all really depends on your demographic audience.
    Being new to InDesign I suggest you take up Sandy Cohens Quickstart Visual Guide.
    I think you should look at Michael Murphys Book on Styles
    And you should definitely get your printer (the guys bulk printing) the booklet for you on board from the start to work out optimal sizes to suit their printing presses and workflow etc. And to ensure that you are setup correctly in page sizes, margins, safe type areas, colour profiles and a few other things that your printers prepress can help you with.

  • I am having trouble using reverb of any kind; it does not sound natural, but rather "pixilated." Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I have used Silververb and Space Designer and am having the same problem...

    I am using Logic Pro 9 with two MXL 990 microphones in my piano and a Rode NT1A for vocals. I have tried recording with added reverb and keeping getting not a natural reverb sound, but a rather "pixilated" one that does not sound natural. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? I have tried using Silververb and Space Designer, and both result in the same problems. Thank you!

    This is asking for the impossible! It does not sound natural because maybe it isn't and in judging so whats your reference anyway. If you are in dire need of some natural sounding room you can go and record it yourself. But even then, the chances that it sounds like you imagined it, are very slim.
    There are very decent sounding reverberation plugins, based on artificial reverb generators or convolution-style, the last one is said to sound more 'natural' then the first one. Be it as it maybe, it really is like cooking food. You got all the ingredients for this delicious taste at hand and believe it or not to reach a satisfying result this is not enough, because if you do not mix the ingredients in the right proportion you will end up with a different dish you thought you'll get. This is exactly the same when one would mix audio, I dare say.
    So treat yourself to some good ingredients and the rest is up to you, namely: taste and experience!
    And looking at some of my past music productions I always find the same plugins for the 'ambient' task:
    Altiverb by Audio Ease when I have acoustic ensembles (classical music mostly), the Sony Oxford Reverb in studio productions, Bricasti when I have to deal with drums and MMultiBandReverb from MeldaProduction for all-round stuff. Thats the base I start from, after that I can end up with dozen Reverb plugins which basically all are doing the same thing but just in a tiny different way.

    My bad, my post was unclear.
    I wasn't sure what you meant by src. You clarified that point.
    By (re)reading parts of the online text book, I realized that it's quite outdated. They really should issue a more up-to-date version.

  • SSIS 2012 - Use OPENROWSET in SSMS and SSIS

    HI Experts ,
    I am getting very much confused with 64 bit ,31 bit environment in SQL server, SSIS and MS office , Accessdatabase engine
    which I want to use for ETL as what should be the combination
    My scenario - I have written an SP with  OPENrowset to be used  in EXECUTE SQL TASK and load data into SQL Table
    example
    SELECT * into myTable
         FROM OPENROWSET (
        'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0',
        'Excel 12.0;Database=E:\SourceFolder\Department.xlsx;HDR=YES;IMEX=1',
        'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]');
    My SQL SERVER version is ::
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012 - 11.0.2316.0 (X64)
    Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (Hypervisor)
    MS OFFICE 2010, 64 Bit
    After executing
    sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1;
    RECONFIGURE;
    sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1;
    RECONFIGURE;
    My OPENROWset query Store Procedure is working fine in SSMS but when I executed Same SP in EXECUTE SQL TASK ,it failed .
    Also I was not able to used Excel as a Source , I forgot the error but it did not even allowed me to select a sheet Name in Excel Source..
    After doing bit of google I found that we need to have MS office 2010 in 32 bit because our BIDS is 32 Bit .
    I asked my admin team to uninstall MS office 2010 64 bit and Install 32 bit version.
    Now my versions are
    SQL server 2012 , 64 bit
    MS office 32 bit
    Now
    1) I am able to Take excel sheets as Source in SSIS Excel Source transformation but package fail
    2) SP with OPENROWSET Query in which was running fine earlier in SSMS  is also throwing error
    3) and Execute SQL TASK with same SP in SSIS are  throwing error ..
    NOW I Installed AccessDatabaseEngine i.e. 32-bit but same issue
    "The 32-bit OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" cannot be loaded in-process on a 64-bit SQL Server"
    PLEASE TELL ME THE COMBINATION .. I cannot reinstall SQL SERVER but definately MS OFFICE VERSION AND ACCESSdatabase engine version
    I WANT
    1) MY OPENROW SET QUERY CAN RUN BOTH IN SSMS and Execute SQL Task (SSIS).
    2) I can use Excel as a Source in SSIS Package (with out making RUN64bitRUNTIME to FALSE )
    PLEASE ASSIST

    Hi Visakh ,
    I might sound stupid asking almost same things again even after reading the Link but thing are not very clear with me and I am  still getting an error while running
    SELECT * --INTo productlist
    FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0',
        'Excel 12.0 Xml;HDR=YES;Database=D:\Mushtaq\ExcelS\Dept.xlsx',
        'SELECT * FROM [S$]'
    both IN SSMS and Execute SQL Task(Even after making Runas64bit to FALSE) ..
    [Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "SELECT *
    INTO productlist
     FROM OPENROWSET
    ('Micro..." failed with the following error:
    "OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'
    cannot be used for distributed queries because the provider is configured
    to run in single-threaded apartment mode.".
    Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query,
    "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
    I have also executed below Query in SSMS but no luck:
    USE [master]
    GO
    sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1
    GO
    RECONFIGURE WITH OverRide
    GO
    sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1
    GO
    RECONFIGURE WITH OverRide
    GO
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_MSset_oledb_prop N'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' ,  N'AllowInProcess' ,  1
    GO
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_MSset_oledb_prop N'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' ,  N'DynamicParameters' ,  1
    GO
    But NOO Luck :(
    I need to know what is wrong or missing in my Current environment to execute them in SSMS and SSIS
    My Environment.
    1)SQL SERVER 2012 64 Bit
    2)MS office 32 Bit
    3)MicrosoftAccessDataBase Engine 2010 -32 Bit ..
    Please assist..

  • Oracle database normalisation and logical design documnetation

    Hi ,
    Am a begginer on DB design , can anyone help me find Oracle database normalisation and logical design documnetation for reference.
    Thanks,
    Swaroop

    Database logical design and normalization are typically DBMS (Database Management System) independent. Meaning that you could do a whole LOGICAL design without regards to the platform in which it will be based. There are many, many resources on the internet if you search for them. if you used terms like "logical database design", or "database normalization" on Google or your search engine of choice I imagine you'll come up with many results.
    When it comes to the actual physical design of the database (as in tablespaces, datafiles, indexes, etc) I would first consult the "Oracle Concepts Guide", and then something like the "Application Developer's Guide." This documentation is all available at:
    http://otn.oracle.com
    Hope this helps!

         then what is  the use of Query Designer... can you  give me the brief  introduction abt that...  if any documents plz farword  to me..
    my mail id--- [email protected]
    thanks
    @jay

    Hi Ajay,
    Report Designer is a newly added feature in BI 7. This helps to do cosmetic changes to the report, change the fonts, add colors etc. Please check this link for more info on Report designer.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/17/16d941de405f24e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    Query Designer, is where you develop, edit your queries.
    Analyzer, is where you execute the query and analyze the results.
    Hope this helps.
