SSIS Service and SSISDB Catalog in SQL 2012

I have currently production Server cluster (DB Engine / SQL Agent) with 2 nodes (active/active). It has SSIS installed on it.
Also another server built in a VM environment dedicated to SSISDB with SSIS installed to move away all the ETL processing/load from the production server.
We are facing some slowness in executing SSIS and looking at moving just the SSISDB from the VM machine to the production cluster.
Here are my questions and concerns
1. What is the interaction between SSISDB and SSIS Service in the case of  package executions through the SSISDB Catalog ? Can I have just SSISDB and not have the SSIS service running to execute these packages?
2. Can I scale out the SSIS with SSIS Service running on one host and the SSISDB in another host?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi GiriATL,
Question 2: No. We cannot create SSISDB catalog database without installing SSIS service. For more information, you can refer to the following blog:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/pfebi/archive/2013/07/25/can-i-use-ssdb-without-installing-ssis.aspx
Question 1: As said above, the SSISDB catalog database cannot be created or work without installing SSIS. To execute a package, both DTExec utility and SSIS runtime are required, and both of them are installed by SSIS service. However, during
the execution of a package, the SSIS service is not required to be running. The SSIS service is a Windows service that monitors the SSIS packages that are running, and the SSIS service also manages the storage of SSIS packages. For more information, please
see:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942176
Saying you have to install the service is not 100% correct. You have to install Integration Services, which installs DTEXEC, the runtime and the SSIS service. The service itself is a byproduct necessary to support the package deployment model. You can disable
the service without any issue.

  • Access Services 2013 high available on SQL 2012?

    Hi,
Does anyone know how we get the randomly created databases from access services 2013 services high available on our SQL 2012 cluster?
For the SharePoint content databases, we use the ‘always on’ functionality of SQL 2012. This functionality is not supported for Access services 2013.
    Thanks in advance,
    Johan

    Hi Edwin,
    Thanks again for your answer.
Failover clustering is a perfect solution for high availability.
    A last additional question:
Now we using ‘Always On groups’. The 2 instances are located one a different physical location. With that configuration, we have a High available solution and disaster recovery solution.
If we going for a Failover Cluster we have a High Available solution, but we don’t have a disaster recovery solution anymore because everything is located on the same physical location.
We can configure SQL mirroring, but then we have the same behavior like the ‘always On Groups’.-> Not possible to delete db’s from SharePoint and not automatically mirrored when created a new access services 2013 db.
Is there any solution/configuration to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    Johan

  • ISSUE Sharepoint 2013 databases for reporting services on the second server SQL 2012

    Hello,
I have server A: Operating system windows 2012 standard, SQL server 2012 standard
instance: Sharepoint contains data for sharepint
instance: Reporting should be contain databases for reporting
    Server B:
Windows server 2012 standard contains installation Sharepoint 2013
Sharepoint works (without reporting services), it is OK - databases are located on server A:
    My issue is:
When I have installed reporting services on server B, I have already installed SQL server 2012 on server B, it works.
I am able to create report in report builder adn place it in to sharepoint.
But I would like to use only one full SQL machine on server A:
When I reconfigure repoting settings on server A in central administration - manage service aplications,
On the SQL server A in instance reporting , there is automatically created databases. It is no problem.
But the first difference is, when I want to manage service aplication for reporting  in
Provision Subscriptions and Alerts, there is information
SQL Server Agent state cannot be determined
When I want to create report in report builder, I have issue:
server A-7380mw016\reporting it means server A with full SQL server:
The Test of connection was successful
Then I have clicked test connection
I have recieved this screen with fail: Logon faild for user NT Authority\anonymous logon
My account belongs to SQL admin on server A (A-7380mw016\reporting) I do not know it is not possible to create report, when it is possible to test connection in the first step and in the second step, there is problem...
    Please, can somebody help me?

    Hi,
Since you are getting an Anonymous Logon error, it appears there may be a problem passing your credentials to the SQL Server Agent Service. This would indicate a Kerberos issue. See this thread for details:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/46b7c773-6a77-435d-b471-cb9a6ec41c43/has-anyone-else-upgraded-reporting-services-to-denali-2012

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/video/Video/hh858469
    Tips from the video:
We are connecting to Reporting services using Kerberos when using Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode
For the account using reporting services, we just need a dummy SPN. We go to Attribute editor tab in AD for RS account. And then we will be enabled with Delegation tab.
In Delegation tab. I we are using claims to windows token, we need to use "Trust this user for delegation to specified services only"
There you have 2 options: "Use Kerberos only": It means I only want to delegate in the situation where the service that is doing the delegation actually has the Kerberos ticket to start with
"Use any authentication protocol" When we need protocol transition (like from NTLM to claims for intra farm communication)
We need to delegate this to SQL server.

  • SSIS write custom logging information to sql 2012 table

I have a Package that I want to put logging information in to a SQL table.
I can do this with a script task but each time the package runs it will open a SQL connection write the log information and then close this connection it will do this 10 times every time the package executes and i could 50 of the packages running at the
same time so i am looking for a better way to do this.
My thought was to create a in memory table object at the start of the package and then insert the log records in to it and at the end do a bulk insert at the end of the package.
My problem is I don't know if this can be done and if it can how would I create the in memory table insert the records and then bulk load it to the SQL server table.

While I do not see any justification for what you want, "My thought was to create a in memory table object at the start of the package and then insert the log records in to it and at the end do a bulk insert at the end of the package" is doable
by creating an ADO table, adding records to it and then writing to a destination:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/195082?wa=wsignin1.0 has all the needed code it seems. Just wrap into the Script Task.

  • SQL 2012 Synchronous and Asynchronous database limit?

    Hi,
How many DB's can be configured as Synchronous commit and Asynchronous commit in SQL 2012 Always On Availability group in a DR scenario for SP 2013?
    Thanks
    Mohammed Asif Kazi

Maximum number of availability groups and availability databases per computer: The actual number of databases and availability groups you can put on a computer (VM or physical) depends on the hardware and workload, but there
is no enforced limit. Microsoft has extensively tested with 10 AGs and 100 DBs per physical machine. Signs of overloaded systems can include, but are not limited to, worker thread exhaustion, slow response times for AlwaysOn system views and DMVs, and/or stalled
dispatcher system dumps. Please make sure to thoroughly test your environment with a production-like workload to ensure it can handle peak workload capacity within your application SLAs. When considering SLAs be sure to consider load under failure conditions
as well as expected response times.

  • Point Imaged/Cloned Sharepoint 2010 to different/renamed SQL 2012 server - what needs to be changed/edited?

Newbie here... I am using our development VM's one has SP 2010 installed/working and configured and the other is SQL 2012 housing the DB's for the working SP sites and a third running IIS and hosting the pages.  I want to use clones to copy to additional
VM's, rename the SQL and rename the SP 2010 (the IIS will stay the same just add the cloned site to it. MY question is "Is there an automated way of reconfiguring SP 2010 to point to the new SQL server? (I've already figured out how to change the SID
information and run the queries on the SQL, just need info on the SP 2010 part.)
    Thanks,
    Jon P.

You can't do this, don't try it. For VM purposes, SharePoint does not support:
    Time Sync
    Snapshotting/Checkpoints
    VM Backups (e.g. SAN-based or VMDK/VHD-based backups)
You will cause problems doing what you're attempting to do, unless you isolate these VMs onto a new network that has no access to the production network -- in this case, you would also need a copy of one Domain Controller from production, as well.
Best bet is to build a new farm and restore content to it via content database/service application database restoration.

  • SQL 2012 Transactional Replication Publisher is also AG Primary, AG fine, but Replication status continuously 'waiting for next Log backup'

    Hi,
I have a SQL 2012 instance that hosts 3 databases that are publishers in (push) transactional replication to subscribers in other domains and are also primary in an Availability Group to other instances in the same domain.  The AG is healty (synchronized),
and replication is ok for 2 databases, but the third continuously shows the Publisher to Distributor history status as 'Replicated transactions are waiting for next Log backup or for mirroring to catch up.'
I have weekly full, nightly differential, and hourly log.  Those are running and I've tested restoring the publisher db from them into a test instance.  The option for sync_with_backup is 0.  I generated a new snapshot, no change (haven't
reinitialized, that will be last possible option as this is production).  When the log backups run, status will briefly change to 'Approximately (x) log records have been scanned in pass # ..., 0 of which were marked for replication' and some data
does replicate, but then status immediately changes back to the message about waiting for log backup.   We are only replicating tables (no views, sp's, etc).  All subscribers and AG secondaries are SQL 2012.  My db is less than 200
    GB data.
The jobs are continuously running and data updates are occurring on the primary.  The distribution database is on the same instance as the publishers.  Anyone have any ideas what could be happening?
    Thanks greatly!

    Update - I resolved this.
We had added a new asynchronous instance to the AG, but hadn't added the databases on the new node to the AG yet.  Conceptually it seems that adding the instance must have marked the logs and interferred with transactional replication on the
primary.  Once I added the databases to the AG on the secondary, then the replication status cleared on the primary and has remained cleared.  It is odd though that it only impacted one of the databases in the AG.
    cheers.

No its not possible to convert standalone installation to cluster. Moreover first you need to configure Windows cluster then backup all SQL server databases logins jobs packages and install fresh instance of SQL Server in cluster aware mode

  • Silent install parameters for Mgmt Studio (from SQL 2012 SP1 Express)

    Hi All,
I'm looking to incorporate the installation of SQL Management studio ONLY from the SQL 2012 Sp1 Express bundle, into System Centre Configuration Manager. I need the silent installation options to install all features for it.
    File used - SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe
    From URL - http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=35579
I'm looking for something like this:
    "SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe /ACTION=INSTALL /QUIET /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms="True"
    /FEATURES= etc.....
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I just want to run the command and have it install SQL 2012
Management Studio (this one is the full version) without having to run through the whole setup.exe process and it's silent installation..
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
First you need to extract the content of the .EXE file to a local folder, as shown below:
    SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe /x
Then you can try to run the following command:
    "c:\folder_containing_installation_files\setup.exe" /ACTION=INSTALL /QUIET /FEATURES=SSMS /HIDECONSOLE
    Hope this helps.

No. This is not possible. Microsoft Windows Cluster required all the Member Nodes to have same OS to the Same version level. Even you cannot use Windows Server 2008 on one node with Windows Server 2008 R2 on another node.

  • SQL 2012 SSIS package runs from the command line (dtexec.exe) and completes right away ...

    Hi
I’m upgrading our SSIS packages from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 .
Everything is working fine in Visual Studio, but when I’m submitting dtexec.exe it’s finishing right away in the command line (the actual execution takes long time).
It looks to me that as the return code doesn’t pass properly.
As I have depending tasks how I can make sure all jobs will be executed in the proper order.
(We never had this issue in SQL 2005)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\Binn>dtexec.exe /ISSERVER "\"\SSISDB\Direct_Prod\Direct_SSIS_Package
    \DD_Load_Customer.dtsx\"" /SERVER TORSQLSIS01 /ENVREFERENCE 2

As per MSDN /ENVREFERENCE argument is used only by SQL Server Agent
    see
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh231187.aspx
below part is what it says
    /Env[Reference] environment reference ID
(Optional). Specifies the environment reference (ID) that is used by the package execution, for a package that is deployed to the Integration Services server. The parameters configured to bind
to variables will use the values of the variables that are contained in the environment.
You use /Env[Reference] option together with the /ISServer and the /Server options.
This parameter is used by SQL Server Agent.
