SSL home page issue with personal /Sites folders

I need to have the Server home page connect via SSL, so I put a 301 on /. Now the /~sites don't work. What's the correct way to fix this? I want the SSL on the default server page. Seems to me an SSL redirect would be a double redirect? Thanks for your time - it's much appreciated.

  • 3 issues with my site

    Hi, I've got 3 problems with my web site, It's built using
    Dreamweaver 8, Illustrator and Photoshop CS2 on a mac.
    The first problem is with a roll-over image, several people
    have viewed the site using various browsers, Safari, Firefox and IE
    on both mac and PC platforms. One of these people who has viewed
    the page on his PC using IE and Firefox can not see one of the
    roll-overs, not even in an up state, he gets a white box instead.
    2nd issue is with the same person on a different page, the
    page displays with white lines where it's been sliced.
    3rd issue what is the best form mail script to use and where
    can I find it?
    Thanks in advance
    Chris

    You have this curious thing -
    <td width="181" height="239">
    <div align="center">
    <a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Image1','','/INTRO_PAGE_03.jpg',1)"></a>****
    <a href="WORK/INDEX.html"
    onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Image4','','WORK.jpg',1)">
    <img src="BLUE_BOX.jpg" alt="work with BND" name="Image4"
    width="181" height="181" border="0" id="Image4" />
    </a>
    <a href="WORK/INDEX.html"
    onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('work','','/WORK.jpg',1)">
    </a>****
    </div>
    </td>
    Note the empty <a> tags before and after the image
    (marked with "****").
    Your other image does not show exactly this same thing -
    <a href="PLAY/index.html" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Image5','','PLAY.jpg',1)">
    <img src="DICE.jpg" alt="play with BND" name="Image5"
    width="181"
    height="181" border="0" id="Image5" />
    </a>
    <a href="PLAY/index.html" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('play','','/PLAY.jpg',1)"></a></p>
    Both should be fixed. They should look like this -
    <a href="PLAY/index.html" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()"
    onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Image5','','PLAY.jpg',1)"><img
    src="DICE.jpg"
    alt="play with BND" name="Image5" width="181" height="181"
    border="0"
    id="Image5" /></a>
    In other words, a single anchor that surrounds the
    <img>.
    What is it you are trying to accomplish with this?
    I also note a very very bad method here -
    <p class="style1">ingame advertising, online golf,
    online nascar, nas car,
    skilled gaming </p>
    where style1 is -
    <style type="text/css">

    .style1 {
    color: #FFFFFF;
    font-size: 5px;
    -->
    </style>
    This will get you banned from the search engine index
    immediately if you are
    discovered.

  • "New" IE8 Issues with Apple Site?

    As a diehard PC user who just recently purchased an iPod Touch, I am spending a lot more time on the Apple site than in the past. I am having nothing but problems with the main Apple site when I access via IE8. The main page takes forever to load up, then mouse clicks go unnoticed or take forever to respond to. Once I get beyond the Apple home page, things start to improve but a couple of odd errors from time to time. For instance, I was accessing this forum via Firefox, then decided that I wanted to do the same side by side with IE8. Obviously, no issues with any Apple site and Firefox whatsoever. On IE8, when I went to "Login", even after logging out on Firefox, it said that the page didn't exist.
    If I didn't know better, I would think that Microsoft and Apple don't get along All kidding aside, do I have to spend the rest of my life accessing Apple's Web site via Firefox, or can I use IE8 like I do for every other site that I access (yes, I have no other problems with any other sites that I access via IE8, except for Apple's).
    Thanks.

    So now you get a feel for how the rest of us live, eh?
    I understand how you feel, but Apple clearly doesn't give any consideration to all the hacks required to make Internet Explorer behave. They just code to the web standards that were published about 10 years ago. Having done a moderate amount of web development I can tell you that Firefox and Safari render and behave virtually identically. All version of Internet Explorer require some sort of hacking to make work. I have three separate CSS files I include with my web sites (ie6.css, ie7.css, and ie8.css) that contain distinct sets of hacks to make pages that look perfect in Safari and Firefox look somewhat decent in IE. You would think that the number of hacks would decrease as the IE version number increases, wouldn't you? Sorry. Each version has its own distinct bugs. If there is any web site in the world that shouldn't have to deal with that, it is apple.com. If you don't want to use Firefox, try Safari for Windows.

  • I'm experiencing 2 issues with a site I'm working on that I can't figure out...

    I'm developing a site for a local 5-star restaurant, and I'm almost done with the development. Unfortunately, I'm a lot better at design then coding, and I have a couple of problems that I have not found solutions to.
    If you have a few minutes, I'd love some advice on how to fix these. They are confusing me a lot...
    1) My pages have a footer that attached to the bottom of the content of the page. On pages that end with tables, there's space between the content and the footer. On pages without tables, it looks fine. Examples:
    Broken:
    [1] http://www.dorseygraphics.com/review/wclg/site_05/winelist.html
    Not broken:
    [2] http://www.dorseygraphics.com/review/wclg/site_05/contact.html
    2) My background image contains some complex elements that overlap (like vines overlapping the content area just a bit on either side). the client LOVES this, so it's not an option to remove. My background is currently a large PNG that easily takes care of the overlapping issue with a simple BG image. But it runs out at the bottom of the page, and some of the pages have content that it too tall for the background.
    Example:
    [3] http://www.dorseygraphics.com/review/wclg/site_05/reviews.html
    How would you go about solving this problem? I'm thinking the easiest way is to add a new containing DIV and use it to extend the content area down, but that would mess up the header (I think). I'm confused.

    The problem here is the background image.  Do you have the image without the beige background in the center?  If so what you need to do is leave the background of the body as the URL to the image (without the beige in the center), no-repeat, and leave the color as you have.  Then move the lighter beige color background to the container with the navigation and content.

    If you look at my above answer I don't think this is a huge problem.  In CSS3 (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, IE9) you can have multiple background images, one static and one repeating in your case.  However, older browsers will not see this, most notably IE 8 and earlier.  You could put the initial image in one layer and make the body background a repeating image but you run the risk of the layers not aligning.
    Another alternative is to set the max-height of the content container and then set the overflow attribute to scroll in the CSS (overflow: scroll;).  That would make the content container scroll independantly from the page.
    A final alternative would be to discuss the pages with the client again.  For instance with the wine list there are different types of wines.  You could have nested tabbed panels, or you could make a page for each wine type sparkling/white, red, etc. and then have tabbed panels underneath to make the lists shorter.  Otherwise the "Significant Others" or "Riesling" get lost at the bottom of the page, regardless of your background, and users do not know those wines are offered.

  • Custom Master Page issue with Document Set Libraries

    Details: Publishing site using SharePoint 2013.  The SharePoint is on my company's servers.
    Have a custom Master page that has a navigation banner (built with HTML/CSS/javascript).  The site has it applied successfully to the "Site Master Page" but when I also apply it to the "System Master Page", the libraries that have
    Document Set type content do not show the files within.   We'd like to be successful in applying to the "System Master Page" as that allows the banner to show when an actual library is accessed.    Any suggestions, please?

    Thanks. I've been experimenting with this for a few days now, and there's lots I don't understand about why and such, but your process above works. That's a big load off me right now and I really appreciate it. I'm going to be able to survive the initial
    roll-out and implementation of the new site. Going forward, I've got lots to learn and find out, I've already heard that there's a desire to really redesign the master page for the site and subsites, way beyond the little CSS customization I did. Fun.
    If you've got a little time though, perhaps you can provide some explanation. If not, no problem.
    On step 6, when I do as you detail, click the System Master Page and reset all the subsites, it seems to work fine with my custom master page. If I do that with the Site Master Page settings, my custom page causes the redirect issue in the subsites again.
    This is whether I do the Site Master Page by itself, or in conjunction with the System Master Page settings. If I revert back to the Seattle master page in the Site Master Page settings and my custom pate in the System Master Page, the issue goes away again.
    It is completely messing with my head, trying to figure out why that would be, and this is all beside trying to figure out why adding the one little CSS reference to the Seattle master to create my master page breaks things (sometimes!).
    Just fyi, what I've ended up with for now is pulling my custom master page out of the system and using the Alternate CSS URL to add my custom CSS to the Seattle master page on the sites. As I thought about all this, I decided I didn't want to leave the breakable
    custom page out there for some unsuspecting site manager to accidentally pick and get everyone screaming about the broken sites.
    Thanks again,
    Steven

  • Strange issue with iWeb site, please help

    Hi everyone,
    Until recently, I've been keeping an iWeb blog of my time in India. Nothing too complicated, just stories and photo albums. However, recently something strange has happened, and the website is no longer displaying correctly. It looks fine in iWeb, and when I publish it in a folder and open it locally, everything is fine. However, after uploading it to my hosting provider, it looks like this:
    http://www.egbertopreis.nl/India/
    (screenshot of what it looks like here: http://egbertopreis.nl/website_screenshot.PNG )
    This is a screenshot from iWeb of what it should look like: http://www.egbertopreis.nl/iWeb_screenshot.png
    I'm using the 'darkroom' theme, but as you can see, something is clearly wrong. It is not displaying the menu correctly, the layout looks strange and it isn't loading any of the articles. The other pages are accessible if you navigate there directly, but there you have the same problem.
    It looks like, for some reason, the CSS and javascript elements cannot be loaded, although I have no idea why this might be the case. They are all just static files, and it worked fine until about a week ago.
    Although I'm an IT professional, I have literally no idea what could cause a problem like this. I went with iWeb because I wanted to use an 'easy' solution and not over-engineer something for once
    Usually what I'd do in a situation like this, is just purge the whole site and re-upload it. However, since I'm traveling around, I don't have fast internet access anywhere and the site is now so large that it would take forever to completely re-upload. This is also the reason why I can't troubleshoot it properly myself...
    Any help (or even words of encouragement :-)) whatsoever would be extremely welcome. Thanks in advance!

    Edit: Forgot to mention what I already tried myself;
    - deleted the HTML and XML files and let iWeb do 'publish changes'. Everything was re-uploadeded, but issue remained.
    - Deleted the 'Scripts' folder on the remote host, and manually re-uploaded from locally published folder. No effect.
    - Tried randomly changing layout items in the hope that any potentially corrupted files might be overwritten after publishing. No effect.

    Hi Roddy, thanks for your reply. It wasn't just me though; a lot of other people from back also reported the same issue. I was also getting the same thing from behind a wired connection. You can still see and experience the issue yourself if you look here.
    I've since 'resolved' the issue by getting a .Mac trial account. A friend helped me move the whole blog over there, where the site works as it is supposed to:
    http://web.me.com/eggmeister/India/
    Therefore the issue has to be with the hosting. Right now I'm suspecting it might be some obscure configuration issue with the hosting company's server. Maybe something like too low a setting for Apache's 'MAX REQUESTS'. This might cause issues with all the javascript going on in the iWeb pages, loading elements back and forth. I'm in contact with the hosting provider, and will let you know what I find. Might be useful for future reference.

  • I have yahoo music player on home page worked with firefox 3, chrome, ix, doesn't with firefox 4 why not

    yahoo is home page. yahoo music worked with firefox till I upgraded to firefox 4. Works with ie and just tried chrome. Screen comes up, video doesn't play, just grey in video screen. Norton security isn't blocking. Would rather use firefox, If firefox 4 won't work, how do I install previous version. Thanks Vernon.

    Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
    If it fails regardless, you can try changing the user agent like this:
    #In the location bar at the top, type: '''about:config''' and hit Enter.
    #In the filter at the top, copy/paste the following: '''general.useragent.override'''. This will display a blank page.
    #Right click anywhere in the blank area and choose "New" and then "String". In the dialog box which appears, copy/paste '''general.useragent.override''' again and click OK. The dialog box will remain on screen, but you'll see that name appear above where it previously said "Enter Preference Name".
    #Next, copy/paste the following: '''Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0'''
    #Click OK and then go to File | Exit. Restart Firefox again and see if it works.
    #I've uploaded a screenshot for you to illustrate the steps above.
    Hopefully, your uni's webmaster will update their site to work with Firefox 4.0 soon.

  • Home page opening with Login page

    Hi,
    Today we are facing a peculiar case, when we login to Unifier application. On successful login, the home is displayed with login page again. Please let me know hw to resolve this.

    Try ditching Dreamweaver and switching to Notepad ++, less bugs, less control from big brother, more nimble, less crashes ... simply better than this pile of junk.
    Ok - put your style sheet in a separate file and link it.
    If you're going to use styles then don't use attributes if you can get away with it.  (Have a look at CSS Zen garden - such a great site.  May be a little complicated for a beginner, but it gives you something to aim for.)
    Ditch the table format - it makes everything far, far more complicated; try using DIVs instead.
    NEVER nest tables if you can at all avoid it.  Usually you can - it's just a case of looking at column and row spans.
    NEVER use something like DreamWeaver in design mode - it's a huge waste of time.
    Try starting with something more basic and build it up a step at a time.  Test every change stage by stage - if you're painting a picture you never paint the whole thing then take a step back and look, you always paint a piece, step back and look, paint another piece etc...
    Most importantly - research which setting (relating to tags, CSS and attributes) actually performs what operation, and which affects which browser.  The classic example of this is the Internet Explorer 6.0 box model problem.
    But most importantly, ditch DreamWeaver.  Hell!  VI is better!

  • I am having issues with a site for work. it loads all the links on the left side of the screen. is there a way to fix this or get an older version of fire fox?

    Its my office intraweb and I was told its not compatible with this upgrade

    You can try basic steps like these in case of issues with web pages:
    Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
    *Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
    Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
    "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • Slow upload of Verizon home page along with limited connectivity

    For the past few months I have noticed my  DSL connection has a limited connectivity issue and after it does connect my home page flashes and takes over 3 to 4 minutes to load this happens every time I use my internet explorer icon to connect. When I use my msn I have no problems. I would like to know if anyone else has had this experience also

    Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
    For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon

    #3 If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
    #4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

  • ITunes home page issue

    I am using iTunes v. 11.0.1 and can't seem to get it to open anywhere but the Store.  I finally added the sidebar which gives me access to music,etc.  Now it will open to my music, or category I have chosen in sidebar, but never seems to open at the regular iTunes Home Page.  What am I missing?  Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    This is nothing to do with homne sharing. These issues arise when you share an Apple ID for services such as messages, iCloud, FaceTime etc.
    You need to go into the settings for each of those apps and set them up with a unique Apple ID for each user.

  • Potential Solution: Home Sharing issues with iTunes 10.6

    TL;DR: On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
    Folks,
    Wanted to share my experience with Home Sharing issues after upgrading to iTunes 10.6. These forums a rampant with reports of the issue, so I'll defer to the search field above if you don't know what I am talking about. In short: iTunes 10.6 seems to have busted Home Sharing.
    For those who do, here's what I found:
    For some reason, is saw a very large number of established sessions from my Apple TV (ATV) into port 3689 on my Mac. This is the port that ATV uses to query iTunes to see what's available via Home Sharing (e.g.: what movies, songs, pictures, etc are available for display on the ATV).
    A sniffer cap and some observation of the power indicator on the ATV indicated that while it was sleeping, the ATV was querying iTunes. It would power on for a sec (wake on LAN, maybe?), issue some queries, then sleep.
    When this happened, the TCP sessions created were never town down. As such, I would eventually see 200+ established sessions on port 3689. I don't know exactly how many it took to make this happen, but when I saw this, iTunes stopped accepting new connections.
    Of course, bouncing iTunes would remedy the issue for a while, but it would return.
    On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
    I would be interested to hear if it works for others.
    Happy viewing,
    Chris

    Thanks for posting this.
    I've been searching for an option of how to approach this problem.
    I picked up the new AppleTV when it was released, but it has made iTunes fairly useless from a Home Sharing standpoint.
    I also observed the massive number of TCP connections being opened against iTunes, but never closed.
    As expected, I could manually kill a few of these connections, and then could connect again, even without closing iTunes.
    I performed most of my testing with Windows 7, but while troubleshooting I had the same issue with iTunes on an old Mac Mini I had sitting around.
    I will try your solution, which makes a lot of sense, but it would be nice if Apple fixed the real problem.
    Thanks again.

  • Issues with cross-site CAS redirect of OWA users

    Hi,
    I am having an issue with our CAS servers, possibly since upgrading to SP3 (I am not 100% if the upgrade caused it). We are currently on Exchange 2010 SP3 RU4.
    I have tested logging into OWA on each CAS server with a mailbox from the same site as the CAS, and it works fine.
    But if I am using a mailbox from the opposing site, I get this scenario:
    1. User reaches site 1 CAS server
    2. User logs into site 1 CAS server with a site 2 mailbox
    3. Site 1 CAS server redirects the user to another form authentication on a site 2 CAS with this URL:
    https://Site2CAS.domain.com/owa/auth/logon.aspx?replaceCurrent=1&url=https%3a%2f%2fSite2CAS.domain.com%2fowa%2fping.owa
    4. User again fills out the form to log in
    5. User gets a blank page with this URL:
    https://Site2CAS.domain.com/owa/ping.owa
    The workaround is that the user then can get their inbox page to load by deleting out the "ping.owa" from the URL. But obviously this is not the intended user experience.
    The redirect would apparently work fine if it wasn't for the addition of this "ping.owa" to the URL. Although I would prefer the user only have to fill the forms authentication out once, the main problem is the blank page.
    Thanks

    Rule of the GAME
    For scenario:
    CAS Array in Internet Facing AD Site and CAS Array in non Internet facing AD site
     It will be CAS Proxy and NOT Redirection
    TO force exchange to use Redirection only, set external URL in non Internet facing site CAS as $Null
    Internet Facing Site
    Internal URL= CAS NLB internal FQDN for that site CAS Array
    External URL= CAS NLB Alias published in external DNS
    Authentication= Form Based with Basic Auth
    Non Internet Facing Site
    Internal URL= CAS NLB internal FQDN for that site CAS array
    External URL= Null
    Authentication= NON Form Based (Integrated Windows Auth)
