SSL Server startup using RSAPrivateKey

Hi,
The CSR for SSL generated the PrivateKey ( xyz-key.der ), no locking password
was provided. I used Entrust Toolkit and converted it to an RSAPrivateKey. When
I use this file as Server Keyfile and tried starting the server, it gives an EOF
Exception. Can anybody please tell, whether WLS support RSA style PrivateKey,
or does it support only SSLeay PrivateKeys. You may also mail me at the address
provided. Thanks in advance

Hi,
I tried this on WLS 5.1 instead and this is what I got. When I converted the (.der)
SSLeay into (.pem) SSLeay, it is functioning good. Problem starts with RSAPvtKey

Hi Raola,
Thanks for replying. Let me tell you what I did.
1. Generated CSR.
2. Applied for certificate to my own Netscape CMS.
3. Got the signed certificate in Base64 Encoded form, and Certificate
Chain as
Base64 encoded PKCS#7 form.
4. Saved the above as 2 separate file with extension (.pem )
5. Set the filenames against the SSL initialization page using WLS console.
The
PrivateKey was the one generated by WLS (SSLeay).
6. WLC Started giving error for the ServerCertChainFile. Exception was
like "BadPadding
or something similar".
7. Changed the ServerCertChainFile to empty string, and started the Server.
This seems like a bug in WLS, though )
8. Server started properly.
Used entrust Toolkit and converted the SSLeayPrivateKey to RSAPrivateKey
in PEM
format extension (.pem).
9. Changed ServerCert to this new file, ServerCertChain still is blank.
10. Starting the server gave EOFException.
Please let me know whether a ServerCertChainFile is necessitated while
starting
WLS. If so, what are the supported formats and algorithms for both PrivateKey
as well as Certificate Chain files.
I would really appreciate your help.
Regards
Nil.

Verify if you have the correct ServerCertificateChainFileName.
Could you post the complete stack trace you are getting? and how you
start WLS?

  • Do you have to request a SSL server certificate using the iPlanet Java console?

I have an SSL certificate that was signed by a CA. The original certificate
request was made external to the iPlanet Directory server. I believe it was
made using OpenSSL. Is there a way that I can take this signed certificate
along with the private key (base64 encoded) and install it for use with
    iPlanet Directory server?
Or, do I have to make the certificate request directly through the iPlanet
    Java Console application?

  • Running a .cmd file at startup using Task Scheduler on Windows 2012 R2 server

    Hello,
I've recently tried to get a simple .cmd file running at server startup on my Windows 2012 R2 server.
The .cmd (test.cmd) file contains the following:
    C:
    cd C:\SomeFolder\
    call Some.exe file "Argument1" "Argument2"
I've ensured that the local administrator user [someuser01] has full control of the C:\SomeFolder
I've also ensured that someuser01 is part of Log on as Batch Job
    in Local Security Policy
To try running it as startup, I tried using Task Scheduler.
General Tab: I set the user (local administrator account [someuser01] ) and ticked the options
Run whether logged on or not, Do not Store Password, Run with Highest Privileges
Triggers: At System Startup, Ticked Enabled
Actions: Start a Program. Program/Script: test.cmd, Add arguments: [Blank], Start in: C:\SomeFolder
    Conditions: Unticked all conditions
Settings: Ticked only the following --> Allow task to be run on demand, If the running task does not end...force to stop
Then I clicked OK and was prompted for someuser01's credentials.
    I then restarted the server.
Upon logging in as administrator, I checked the task scheduler, and I found that the task did not run (Last Run Time: Never)
I've been able to run it manually (click Run on the task in Task scheduler) without any problems.
I just cannot get it to run at startup as I've instructed Task Scheduler to do.
Any ideas on what might be causing this problem?
    Thanks.

    Hello Dave Patrick,
I've also tried this approach and I came across this error after I try to enter someuser01's credentials:
An error has occured for the task sometask01. Error message: The following error was reported: A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated..
After doing some research, this new error is caused by a setting in Local Security:
Local Security Policy --> Security Options --> Network Access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication --> Enabled
Unfortunately, I cannot disable this Security Policy due to our company's internal restrictions.
Just to clarify, the reason that the task does not run at startup is because of a logon failure because the password was not stored for
    someuser01 ?
However, I cannot allow storage of the password because of our our company's internal restrictions.
Is there a possible workaround for this..?
    Thanks!

I suspect you are actually getting an Exception and not tracing the cause properly and then doing a sleep and then getting another Exception. Never ever catch an exception without tracing what it actually is somewhere.
Also I don't know what the sleep is supposed to be for. You will block in readByte() until something comes in, and that should be enough yielding for anybody. The sleep is just literally a waste of time.

  • Is there any way to config iws6.0 to connect to LDAP directory using SSL client and server authentication.  Only SSL server authentication worked when I tried.

As my previous question, I followed the following instructions to setup up connection between iws and an LDAP server.
"Using SSL to Communicate with LDAP
You should require your Administration Server to communicate with LDAP using SSL. To enable SSL on your Administration Server, perform the following steps:
1.Access the Administration Server and choose the Global Settings tab.
2.Click the Configure Directory Service link.
3.Select Yes to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for connections.
    4.Click Save Changes.
5.Click OK to change your port to the standard port for LDAP over SSL. "
Q1. Any other steps needed to setup client authentication (or mutual authentication)?
Q2. Do I need to enable security for connection groups in order to have this setup to work?

    Check out:
    http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/60sp1/ag/esecurty.htm#1008113
You will need to turn on Client Auth as described above. Hope it helps.

  • Netscape cert type does not permit use for SSL server

    Hello,
I am trying to access an internal SSL secured web server that uses a certificate that has been issued with Netscape Cert Type "client" instead of "server".
I know that the clean solution is to issue a certificate with type "server". For circumstances and the mere number of affected servers, I cannot do this.
I would like Java to ignore this. How do I do this?

were you able to fix the problem?
    how did you do it?

Netscape cert type does not permit use for SSL clientTry using another certificate. Your certificate can't be used as a web browser client certificate.

  • Confused about the 11g R2 Forms Server and using SSL

    All,
I just installed the 11g R2 Forms Server software without configuring it.
I then ran the config.sh script to configure it which creates a weblogic server domain.
I'm a bit confused now. If I run opmnctl status command I get the following:
    Processes in Instance: frmrep_inst_1
    --------------------------------------------------------------+---------
    ias-component | process-type | pid | status
    --------------------------------------------------------------+---------
    emagent_frmrep_inst_1 | EMAGENT | 28279 | Alive
    RptSvr_eiaorapptest_frmrep_ins | ReportsServerComp~ | 28124 | Alive
    ohs1 | OHS | 27831 | Alive
This looks to me like there is an Oracle Http Server installed.
Is the Oracle Http Server answering web calls when I run forms or is the Weg Logic Server answering the call?
Also, the Oracle Forms Installation Documentation talks about securing your environment with Oracle Identity Manager but we are not using Oracle Identity Manager. I want to use SSL but I'm not sure how to secure the environment with SSL. Do I need to configure the WebLogic server to use SSL or the OHS?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

Fusion Middleware 11.1.x does include HTTP Server (OHS) and also requires WLS. Both HTTP Server and WLS are http listeners, amongst other things. So whether WLS handles a request or HTTP Server does it will be entirely up to you and/or the end-user.
OHS has a listener which by default (in FMw) listens for requests on port 8888. On the other hand WLS_FORMS is preconfigured to listen on port 9001.
This means that if your URL looks like the following, WLS_FORMS will directly answer the client:
    <blockquote>http://server:9001/forms/frmservlet?form=abc</blockquote>
If the URL looks like the following, the HTTP Server will reply:
    <blockquote>http://server:8888/forms/frmservlet?form=abc</blockquote>
The request path when using OHS as the listener to call Oracle Forms would look like this:
    <blockquote>CLIENT --- OHS --- WLS_FORMS --- FORMS SERVLET --- FORMS RUNTIME (frmweb.exe) --- DATABASE</blockquote>
The request path when using WLS_FORMS as the listener to call Oracle Forms would look like this:
    <blockquote>CLIENT --- WLS_FORMS --- FORMS SERVLET --- FORMS RUNTIME (frmweb.exe) --- DATABASE</blockquote>
Although removing OHS from the path would seem to be better because it is one less server to administer and less system resources consumed, generally it would be argued that the advantages of having it will outweigh the disadvantages.
There are numerous advantages to use OHS in front of WLS, but the most obvious should be that OHS can be set up so that you have one and only one entry point into your FMw environment. In other words, even though for example Forms WLS listens on 9001 and Reports on 9002 and some other app on 9999, all requests can be routed through a single OHS port (e.g. 8888). This gives added security since only one port would need to be open assuming a firewall was in place. This configuration is also helpful when calling one application from another. For example when calling Reports from Forms. If you use OHS, references to other WLS managed servers can be called with a relative reference rather than a fully qualified one.
Regarding whether or not SSL needs to be enabled at any particular point in the path is entirely up to you. You can enable SSL from the client all the way back to the db or any where in between. It is fairly common to see SSL between the client and OHS then no SSL to WLS. But if security is a great concern then you may want to consider SSL from front to back. However, keep in mind that SSL comes at a price. Performance will degrade slightly when SSL is enabled.
Also, OAM (Oracle Access Manager) has nothing to do with SSL. SSL refers to traffic encryption. OAM is for authentication - single sign on.
Consider reviewing the Forms Deployment Guide as well as the other Fusion Middleware documents referenced within it.
    <blockquote>http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/index.htm</blockquote>
Finally, and most important, this topic really has nothing to do with Oracle Forms. This is more about how a web server or its environment works.

  • How to erase all self signed certificates and force Server to use Signed SSL

I have been using a poorly managed combination of self-signed SSL certificates and a free one. I have purchased a good SSL from Digicert and am trying to configure the server to use it across the board. All of the services seem to be using it, but when I try to manage the server remotely, I seeing a self-signed certificate instead.
I look under the system keychain in K-Access and there are several self signed certificates there (including the one that I am seeing when I try to remote manage).
Can I replace those self-signed certs with the new one some how?

Don't delete those.  However, you are on the right track.  Follow these steps to resolve.
    1:  Launch Keychain Access
    2:  Select the System Keychain
3:  Find the com.apple.servermgrd IDENTITY PREFERENCE (looks like a contact card) and double click to open it
4:  In the Preferred Certificate popup, change com.apple.servermgrd to your purchased certificate
5:  Press Save Changes to save.
6:  Reboot the server or kill the servermgrd process to restart the service.
    That should resolve your issue.

  • Essbase server startup by using OPMN.

    Hi ,
we are planning to start Essbase server by using OPMN.
    Version: 11.1.2.1
Currently, we are using the below line code in our batch script to start Essbase server but we wanted to start the Essbase.
    $ARBORPATH/bin/startEssbase.sh -b
I have gone thru docuemnt and came to know that , I need to use the below commnad to start Essbase server by using the below command.
    opmnctl startproc ias-component=EssbaseInstanceName.
My question is here, can I keep the same line of code in my existing batch script to start the Essbase server ?
Did anyone one call the this (opmnctl startproc ias-component=EssbaseInstanceName) line of code in start up/batch scripts ? As we are implementing first time.
Please share your thoughts and sugguestions. your help highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ganesh.

    Hi ,
We have setup Essbase clustering. There are two servers involved in Essbase clustering.
Can you please let me know , Do we need to start OPMN on two Essbase servers or only one Essbase server. if it is on One server, how it will interact with other server.
Please let me know if you don't understand my question or need more information on the same.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Reproducing this issue is very easy.....
1). Just Create a Admin and Managed Server
2). Start AdminServer then from Admin Console Disable the normal listen-port for admin Server (suppose it was 7001 disable it)....AND enable only the SSL port for Admin Server (example 7002).
Managed Server (Listen Port=7003 and SSL ListenPort=7004)
3). Now Try Start Managed Server.
you wil get the Exact same exception
<Jan 20, 2010 6:03:19 PM CST> <Error> <Configuration Management> <BEA-150000> <An error occurred while establishing a connection back to the adminstration server t3://140.126.24.25:6001 during startup. Since bootstrap succeeded check that t3://140.126.24.25:6001 uniquely identifies the administration server.
javax.naming.ServiceUnavailableException [Root exception is java.rmi.NoSuchObjectException: The object identified by: '31' could not be found. Either it was has not been exported or it has been collected by the distributed garbage collector.]
    And
    <Emergency> <Management> <BEA-141151> <The admin server could not be reached at http://140.126.24.25:6001.>
Now it will be easy for us to find out where is the issue actually.
    Thanks
