SSL Session and Connection

What is the difference between SSL Session and Connection. I understand, that session is negotiation of parameters and connections are built upon the sessions. But please help me understand, how it works in practicaly as in when using a Any connect client or browser, how does it function.

How about something like:
// It appears there may be issues with TLS...
// so to prevent it from being used, we'll be
// specific...SSLv3
SSLContext context = SSLContext.getInstance("SSLv3");
context.init(kmFactory.getKeyManagers(), null, null);
SSLSocketFactory ssf = context.getSocketFactory();
com.sun.net.ssl.HttpsURLConnectionHttpsURLConnection.setDefaultSSLSocketFactory(ssf);
That do ya?

  • Internet sessions, VPN session, and connections dropping frequently

I'm in an apartment. This problem started about a week ago. All of my browser sessions, vpn session, and connections such as AIM or netflix drop frequently. I often have to click links twice to get a page to load. I have to reload videos a lot to get them to continue to stream. I am constantly signing in and out of AOL IM.
I believe the problem has to do with several MoCs (coax connections) listed on my router page, and these MoCs have names of other people on them. Until I noticed them a week ago, I had only seen one MoC belonging to me listed on the router connection page.
Thus, I think that something got crossed up of misconfigured in the ONT for my apartment complex. The gateway light on my router stays green as all of these problems happen.
    Pinging google.com, I get
    --- google.com ping statistics ---76 packets transmitted, 55 packets received, 27.6% packet lossround-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 31.282/39.339/48.217/3.548 ms
Anyone seen this before and know how to get verizon to fix this?
I have had nothing but problems with FIOS since getting it, and I have wasted a lot of time with their "customer support."

I am sorry to hear about your connection problems. I have sent you a private message so we can get your information and look more deep into your connection.

  • Difference between session and connection

Not sure this is the right place for this, but I am not able to find a proper definition between these 2 terms.
What is the difference between session and connection, theoritically speaking ?

    Hello
In order to get the meaning of terms Connection and Session let's define first the term Flow.
The definition of a Flow is historically accepted as:
A unidirectional sequence of packets between 2 network endpoints that have the following 7 things in common:
    1. Source IP address
    2. Destination IP address
    3. L3 Protocol type
    4. Source port
    5. Destination port
    6. Tos (Type of Service)
    7. Input interface
The terms Connection and Session can have many different meanings depending on the framework that they are used, but it can be said that:
    Connection: A bidirectional Flow
Session: Many connections between the same source and same destination

  • Problem in using XSQL-session and connecting database

    Hello
Let me explain clearly. We have some data entry screens for which we want to use session with time out option. Normally in Servlet, we use to create a session with max age option. Then everytime the browser call the servlet we use to check for session.isnew(). If it is new session then we will forward the page to Relogin (because session is timed out) or we proced with further action.
In XSQLServlet, how will do this. Do I have to create my own servlet extended from XSQLServlet ? Override the Service method and write about the session part and call
super(). Here only I am getting confused. In servlet mapping we have given for every .XSQL call run the XSQLServlet. How will I override this ?
And also we have problem with user id and password. We don't want to use the same id (system id as defined in XSQLConfig.xml) for every database connection. We want to define only the connection information like SID, Server, Port number. But user id and password should be dynamic. How can I achieve this ?
Please help us on solving these problem. Thanks.

You'll need to implement your own classes that implement the:
    oracle.xml.xsql.XSQLConnectionManagerFactory
    and
    oracle.xml.xsql.XSQLConnectionManager
to change the way XSQL handles connections. Using this mechanism, you should be able to implement any alternative connection scheme you choose.
If you run into problems implementing these interfaces, give us a shout here in the forum.

  • Javamail performance and connection pooling

    Dear Javamail users and programmers,
I am new to javamail. We are working on a commercial web mail project and using Javamail to connect with an IMAP/SMTP clustered server group to read and write mails.
Our application will have 400000 concurrent users in the system and an Approximate , we will have 200 servers (Glassfish 3 ) and each server will have 2000 active users at time.
Now my problem! At the moment, we are opening the store each time we read or store mails for each user. I doubt this will have performance issues in production.
Does anyone have experience using Javamail in this dimension?
I read the connection pooling mechanism in the package com.sun.mail.imap Descriptio. If i understood correctly, this will require at-least one dedicated connection per user to the server . I think, that will be too many connections at a time for any Imap server cluster system.
Is there any other method of doing connection pooling?
Btw in which scenario I should increase the mail.imap.connectionpoolsize to more than one? I assume, i only need to increase this parameter if i want to keep more than one folder open for a particular user at time, isn't it?
What will be the best approach which suite to our application?
Thank you very much for any help.
    With regards,
    Alvin Antony

Connection pooling isn't likely to help in your scenario. IMAP connection pooling does not allow multiple
users to use the same connection to the server. Unless you want to map all of your web mail users to a
single IMAP user, connection pooling won't help you.
The general issue of managing sessions and connections was discussed briefly in this other thread:
I suspect you're going to need to do some experiments to determine the best approach.

  • WEBI session vs Connection

I'm reading through the setting on WEBI report server:
    Idle Document Timeout (seconds)
    Idle Connection Timeout (minutes)
    Maximum Document per User
Could some one explain the relationship among "Document", "Session" and "Connection" ? It can't find any documentation on them.
    Alvin

I did read through the documentation several times. The description uses terms like  "session", "document" and "connection" , however, they don't expalin how these things work together...
    1. Does "session" mean CMS session? If so, if I user open multiple browsers, he will get multiple sessions? How CMS sessions related to the session on WEBI report server? Can one CMS session map to multiple WEBI report server sessions, in case I have multiple report servers?
    2. Maxium document per user:  WEBI document is a file, WEBI report is a tab within the file. Is user = session? I open more than 5 documents from my browsers, but I don't see anything special happening. What should I expect? old documents will get swapped to disks?
    3. Maximum connection: I disagree that this means DB connections. I thought this controls the number of active sessions on a webi report server. But what's the difference between session and connection?

  • SSL termination and redirect

We have moved SSL termination to a loadbalancer (F5) from the Sun webservers. The load balancer after terminating SSL goes to the http listener on the webservers. We have some NSAPI code that does a redirect. It used to do the redirect based on the original scheme of the listener (if http then the redirect was http based. If https then redirect https). Of course, now all redirects come back http even though the user may have an https session.
For weblogic we can feed a header from the F5 (WL-PROXY-SSL) and it would recognize that a load balancer was used for SSL termination and perform java redirects using the correct scheme. Is there any header like this I can feed to the Sun Webserver so it recognizes that a loadbalancer has terminated the SSL session and any redirects should be https?

It might be easiest to configure separate HTTP listeners (e.g. separate ports) for SSL and non-SSL requests. You can configure which scheme should be used in self-referencing URLs (such as those used in redirects) per HTTP listener. In Sun Java System Web Server 7.0, you can do that using the admin GUI, CLI, or by editing the server.xml configuration. If you edit server.xml, you need to specify the <server-name> element in the appropriate <http-listener> element.

  • Proxyless clustering and SSL session state

The current 6.0 docs are a bit quiet on SSL and clustering, so can I check
whether it is the case that when proxy-less clustering is used with SSL, a
failover results in a new certificate exchange and crypto session
establishment? In other words, the clustering isn't attempting to replicate
the SSL session state or similar super-subtle strategy.
              Thanks!

              Alex,
A failover will result in a new SSL connection being started. As you say
this will mean that certificate exchange and session key exchange will occur
again. All of the replicated state is kept at a higher level in the server
so that we can use different SSL implementations including hardware
              accelerators.

  • Difference between connection, session and process

    Hi all,
Can anyone please update me on the difference between connection, session and process.
    Thanks in advance,
    - Sri

I got this useful note by googled in net. It describes session, connection, process gracefully.
A connection is a physical circuit between you and the database.A connection
might be one of many types -- most popular begin DEDICATED server and SHARED
server. Zero, one or more sessions may be established over a given connection
to the database as show above with sqlplus. A process will be used by a session
to execute statements. Sometimes there is a one to one relationship between
CONNECTION->SESSION->PROCESS (eg: a normal dedicated server connection).
Sometimes there is a one to many from connection to sessions (eg: like
autotrace, one connection, two sessions, one process). A process does not have
to be dedicated to a specific connection or session however, for example when
using shared server (MTS), your SESSION will grab a process from a pool of
processes in order to execute a statement. When the call is over, that process
is released back to the pool of processes.

  • Server 2012 R2 RDS- Only want the Session Host, Connection Broker and Licensing Server!

    Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has experience with implementing Remote Desktop Services (RDS) on Windows Server 2012 R2.
I am doing an RDS design for a platform where we only need an RDS Session Host, Licensing Server and Connection Broker. We do not need web access as these servers will simply be jump boxes internally!
However, implementing this correctly in our test environment has proved to be tricky. The options are:
Use the Server Manager and do a traditional install via Roles and Features ( specifically add the Session Host, Licensing Server and Connection Broker). The installation process seems to go through ok in this scenario but when I head over to the Remote
Desktop Services section of the Server Manager I simply get the message 'An RDS Deployment does not exist in the server pool. To create a deployment head to Roles and Features'.
Use the specific ‘Remote Desktop Services installation’ option on the Server Manager and do a Session Based Desktop deployment and Quick Start. This installation process seems to go through correctly and the Remote Desktop Section seems to be working
correctly via the Server Manager. However this process is ‘hard locked’ i.e. it installs the session host, web access and connection broker. I can then remove the web access component later from Roles/ Features.
Is there a best practice (if any) for installation? i.e. Will there be any issues down the line if I remove RDS Web Access from my server while following method 2?
There is a complete lack of documentation from Microsoft here so not sure what to do! Just need a basic RDS session based deployment.

    Hi,
As I know from server 2012\R2 the best deployment skill is to perform via “Remote Desktop Services” installation mode with Standard deployment and don’t let single role to install. Because when we install through RDS mode, there are specific extra tools and
services activated along with that deployment which you can’t find with single role installation. And that is for sure, when we install RDS role as of this, by default we will get install RDCB, RDSH and RDWA role installed.
Sorry don’t have any option to try to remove that role as that role basically needed for RemoteApp and Desktop purpose. But if you want then you can try it with help of “Remove-RDServer”Powershell command.

    Hope it helps!

  • Granting system privileges DEBUG ANY PROCEDURE and CONNECT SESSION in 10gXE

I am using Oracle DB 10g Express Edition and trying out SQL Developer. Whenever I want to debug a procedure I got the error:
This session requires DEBUG CONNECT SESSION and DEBUG ANY PROCEDURE user privileges.
But I don't see these privileges to grant in the XE GUI for users.
Does anybody know if this is supported in XE.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Use SQL*Plus (or the apex interface), logon as dba and type this sql statements:
    grant DEBUG CONNECT SESSION to <username>;
    grant CONNECT SESSION to <username>;

  • GV$SESSION and V$SESSION | Find who is connecting

Any one please brief what is the diff b/w
    GV$SESSION and V$SESSION
and what is the use os both...
Can we find the user who is connecting to the oracle server using gv$session view.
    Oracle Version is 9i R2
    OS is Solaris 9

You can find the users connecting to each node if you query the v$session. You must be aware of the node you are connecting when issuing this query because the information is exclusive from the node you are connected to.
If you query the gv$session the information gathered is the same, but as you can see it reports information from all RAC participant users.
If you take a look at the dynamic views, you will find a lot of gv$ views, those are global views that can be seen from whichever instance you are connected to and it will report information about all the instances in a single query. As you can see the gv$ views include an INST_ID (instance ID) column, which declares the number of instance the information comes from.

Several sessions with the technical support and management have not resolved this issue. Each time technical people and top managers promised that this issue will be resolve tomorrow and they will cal me. Nothing happend!! I can not even cancel my service not just to upgrade it. Completely locked.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.
    Alex.

Cannot figure out what your talking about since it makes no sense.
If you are the account owner you can go to the My Verizon web portal http://www.verizonwireless.com
You must log in with your cell number and your my Verizon portal password. Not the account pin.
Once there you can change your plan and services. However repeated incorrect login attempts will lock you out of the site. It a fraud prevention measure.
1-800-922-0204 call support with your cell number and or account number and account pin and they can assist you.
If you don't have the information then there is nothing they can do.
If you can verify who you are they may be able to reset your account access. But only if you are the account owner.
    Good Luck
