Stand-alone executable will not call dll

Hi
I am building a datalogger application which uses a dll library from ADAM 5000. I've made the application and it works fine when used in labview but when I make it an executable file it does not communicate with the external device. I cannot connect.
Do you know what am I doing wrong?
How could I fix it?
I'm attaching the VI as well as the executable file with the dll packed in a zip folder.
I appreciate any help
Thanks,
Sergio

I've screwed that up too with txt files and such, but I'm thinking more along the lines of where the 'call library function node is looking for the dll-
Maybe I'm not helping here, but I think my issue had to do with the name/path field being wrong in the "Configuring Library Name or Path"
from the help here, scroll down a bit:

    Hi,
The printer do have SD Card limitations, as the specific model is quite older and uses earlier technologies..
As you may find by the product specification, the Maximum size is 1 GB

  • How to run stand alone executables developed with different versions of LabView on the same system

I am using LabVIEW 8.2 to develop a stand alone executable for a target system.  The target system already has a stand alone executable written by another vendor, using LabVIEW 7.1.  I installed the LV RunTime Engine for 8.2 which left the 7.1 engine intact (as it should).  The problem I am now having is that the drivers installed on the target system are incompatible with the NI-DMM vi's that I am using.  My concern is that if I replace the old drivers with the ones I am using on my development platform I may end up breaking the old software.  What would be an appropriate work around to ensure that the target system will be able to run both executables?  (FWIW the system will NOT be running both executables concurrently.)
The target system is an embedded PXI card cage, running Windows XP, with a NI PXI-4070 DMM (among other instruments, however I have had not had this issue with the NI-DAQmx drivers).

    Hi Yerffejj,
Thanks for sharing your issue with the community. I am struggling to see what you mean by "break the software." If you only have the two executables and LV Run-Time versions 8.2 & 7.1, then you just need to go to http://www.ni.com/support/ » Drivers and Updates » Search within Results: » enter "NI-DMM" » GO to get the DMM driver you need. To see the driver you were using on the development machine, just go to Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). The DMM driver should also automatically install DAQmx, NI-VISA, and NI-IVI, fyi.
Best wishes to you, and please let us know if that does not solve your problem.

  • Using stand alone executables to send data to the parallel port

I have a executable that uses the parallel port to activate an alarm. The program works well on the base machine which is running windows XP. However when I try to run the stand alone executable on a windows NT machine there is nothing sent to the parallel port. I have updated the Cvirt file on all machines. I don't get any error messages when running the stand alone executable.

I have the same situation using parallel port to control a hot swap PCI extender card and no error showed.  I can turn on/off and read correct voltages from the card in base machine.  After creating executables, I can turn on/off the card, but got wrong voltages in target machine.
I've installed AccessHW in both machines and copied AccessHW.dll and cvirte.dll to system32 folder and the folder same with executables.  I also tried installer with port support and serial support checked.
Windows XP is in both machines and LV 7 in base machine.  I use "Output Byte to Port.vi" and "Input Byte from Port.vi" in AccessHW lib.
One thing I observe is initiation.  The card manufacturer provides a program with same functions.  After running their program, the voltage readings from the executables become correct.  The readings remain good after closing their program.  I close the executables and run the executables again and still see good results unless restarting the target machine.
Any solution for the problem? Thanks in advance!

  • When importing a flash animation into captivate flash will not call external files

Is there a way to import flash into captivate and it still be able to call external files (ie. sound, video xml)? When I import flash into captivate it will not call any external file.

    Hi all
Wow, I was so hoping fellow Adobe Community Expert Paul Dewhurst would pop in on this thread.
Why? Well, Paul sent me a way cool gizmo a while back that hacked the Info button. It used an external file for some of the information! So somehow Paul managed to sort what it took to insert a Flash object into Captivate and have that object extract data from an externally located file.

  • Dependency list in project shows 2 DLL files. What do I need to do when creating a stand-alone executable file to ensure that it is included?

When the executable that I created is run on a stand-alone machine, a search is instantly launched to locate the missing *.DLL files along with about 20 other sub vi files from an example vi file that I downloaded last week.  Once the exampe vi was open, I modified the block diagram and the front panel and then I resaved it with a new name.
The missing sub-vi files are the same files that I saw listed in the Dependencies list of the project along with the 2 DLL files.  This problem shouldn't be happening because I included the top level vi file that contains the sub-vi files into the source files list under the Start-Up VIs window of the application properties.  What needs to be done to make this stand-alone executabale complete?

OK...So it's not a simple as clicking the mountian icon  above and inserting the location of the picture file on my PC huh?  It works on my end just fine, but I understand you all don't see it.
I really don't understand why this is such a complicated process in this discussion forum, but your explanation isn't working for me.  SO, I'm going to write what I understand to be the proper procedure and you tell me if it's wrong.
Attach my image using the Browse button below.  That makes sense.  Done that.
Edit my post - Edit it?  How is typing this message in the window any different from editing my post???  Are you sugesting that I Edit As HTML(http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/post?board.id=170&message.reply_to_id=244152#) using the shortcut in the lower right hand side of the frame???  I not, please explain a different way.
I right clicked the adress in the window under the Attachment  heading below the lower left hand side of the frame, copied it and pasted it into the Script Prompt: dialog pop-up that appeared when I clicked on the mountain icon in the tools menu.  By the way,
Now I see my image in the post just before I sent it.
    Don't you see it now?
As for the DLL file - the ONLY way I can find the DLL file that I need is to refresh the dependencies list in my project.  As I explained in my previous posts, those two DLL files came with an example vi that i downloaded from the NI website last week and they must have been embedded inside of the example because I didn't create them myself and I've since resaed the original example vi as one that's been renamed by myself.  In doing so, I presume that the DLL file was inherited from the original example vi file to my own vi file.  However, that's clearly not the case because every time I run the executable file that I created with the renamed example vi file in my project, it immediately launches a searchfor the DLL files that it claims are missing!!!  SInce the DLL files are ONLY visible in the dependencies list, I can't transfer them to the Dynamic VI and Support files window in the Application Builder.  SO, I drag them up the Source Files tree in the Application Builder to the top of the tree where the Start-up vi is located and then I can move them to the Dynamic VI and Support Files window.  Those DLL files don't appaer inthe top level of the tree where the Start-up vi appears before I move it to the Start-up vi window of the Application Builder.  I'll try it again.

  • Initially opening a stand alone application not in run mode.

When opening a stand alone application for the first time, how can I not have it automatically start in run mode?  I want the user to click the white arrow first to start the program.  Are there any ways to get around this?  Thanks!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Yes.  Here's how:
When you build your executable, there are several screens in which you set parameters.
Under "Source File Settings", check "Set VI Properties for all contained items".
Click the "Customize VI Properties" button.  Another dialog box will pop up listing the VI properties.
Under "Execution", uncheck "Use VI Property".
Make sure "Run When Opened" is unchecked.
Now, when you build your executable, your user will have to press the white arrow to start the VI.
    Hope this helps,

  • Dock conversationwindow incoming conversations, without rendering stand-alone before the .Dock() call

We are busy developing a desktop application which uses the Lync 2013 client SDK. One of the features is to dock the conversation window of the Lync client into our own app. At the moment, this is working but the flow is not ideal:
The (incoming) conversation is created and the ConversationAdded event is fired
In the mean time, Lync already rendered the conversation window
The app gets the handle to the conversation window and docks it into a container
This results in a bit of "flickering" of screens, because Lync renders the conversation window, before the app is able to dock it into its' own panel.
I was wondering this behavior could be bypassed in any way.
I know from the samples of MS, when starting a conversation with a StartInstantMessagingButton you can initialize it with a ConversationContextualInfo object, which in turn has a ParentWindowHandle property. This is the behavior that would be IDEAL for our
app, but obviously this only works for outgoing IM conversations. Is there any way to tell Lync that all new conversations must dock?
Another possibility is to tell Lync the spot where all new conversationwindows must spawn. Is this possible?
Does anyone have done this some other way maybe?
One last thing, Our app is already visible before the conversation window, so spawning our app on top (or exactly behind) the conversation window is not possible.
    Thanks

Unfortunately no, the UI does not wait for the SDK to proceed with it's functionality.  The best you can do is dock as soon as you can, but as you found it will create a stand alone window briefly before you have the opportunity to dock.

  • VI runs okay in develop environment, will not load dll as executable

This VI calls a .NET dll for testing a circuit board. It runs fine in LabVIEW develop environment, without problem building executable. But the executable couldn't open the dll. The dll is surely included with the executable, but opening process still looks for this dll. If I point to this dll, then popup window shows it cannot be loaded. The .NET is 4.0. I can upload some detailed information tomorrow. Any one experienced this kind of problem?

lication and the executable can find it, but it doesn't like it so it keeps on looking somewhere else.

  • Built EXE not calling dll

     Hi All,
I'm having a problem with a EXE that i've built. I've made a very simple VI to track down the problem, but with no sucess. I've got a set of PCI cards. I've got a top level dll that i make calls to in LV8.5 and there are a bunch of lower level dll's that i think this top level dll uses (recursive ??).
Anyway, i build a vi that uses the call library function node to initalise the PCI cards. This doesn't require anything to be passed to the dll and works a treat in LV. I then built an EXE. The first time through LV had a fit because i hadn't included the lower level dll's and it started objecting with various error messages. I then included these dll's in the build and hey presto got an exe without any warnings. When i run the EXE i don't get any errors or warnings (which is great), but actually i don't get anything - the PCI cards don't initalise (which is not so great). I know this because you can hear a bunch of relays turning on and off when the PCI cards are initalised.
As i said works fine as a vi but doesn't once it's built as an EXE.
    Any pointers?
    Dr Phil.

Are you monitoring the error output of CALL LIBRARY?
    If not, you should.
How are you specifying the path to the DLL in the CALL LIBRARY function?
Is it a relative path or an absolute path, or just a DLL name?
