Standalone Workflow

I would like to demo the standalone workflow product. Is there a way to run workflow WITHOUT using Oracle9ias?? Based on what I've read, this seems to be possible, yet all of my research either leads to Oracle9ias or to a dead-end. Can I Download workflow to run with a 9i database?? I have come up empty with regards to finding a downloadable version of the Standalone version of Workflow. Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated!!

hi,
I have installed a standalone version on my laptop. Assume we are talking about the latest 9i product stack.
You need the 9i Database. To install workflow, choose the "Integration" option in the 9i Installer, then choose custom, and then choose the workflow component.
That would install the standalone workflow server component, and other common files associated to AQ.
For the Builder, you have a choice of using the 9iClient CD, OR - if i remember right, it might be in the 9i Database CD along with the Server component.
The standalone here refers to the fact that the wrokflow is not bundled with the 11i applns stack.
hope this helps

  • Standalone workflow procedures

Anyone have an elegant solution to the following: We're converting SQL scripts used to populate a data warehouse into autonomous transaction PL/SQL subprocedures to be called by simple workflow procedures. Several of the scripts are required to drop and create tables, so we're coding the SQL within 'execute immediate' in PL/SQL. The problem is that the scripts are long and contain many embedded single quotes within functions, 'IN' statements, etc., so converting them to strings is a real pain. Unfortunately, we're using Standalone WF, not the embedded apps version, so concurrent events aren't available to us (I understand that they can be registered to run SQL scripts).
Does anyone have any other ideas or solutions for this situation?
    Thanks in advance,

Another possibility could be to look at using Oracle Enterprise Manager to run SQL scripts in response to certain events/messages enqueued on AQ. You might want to look at the Oracle Warehouse Builder product, they use workflow and Oracle Enterprise Manager to coordinate the Extract/Translate/Load process.

  • ERROR: The Service Component Container is not running: Standalone Workflow

We're trying to get the java notification mailer established through the OEM 10g Application Server Control. But the mail agent listener servlet container (WFALSNRSVC), and the mailer service servlet container (WFMLRSVC) are not running. Because of that, I cannot get any other parts of the mail configuration running. Note, I can successfully complete getting through the 8 steps of the "Workflow Notification Mailer" configuration (e.g. IMAP and SMTP mail accounts work fine and are accessible from the Workflow application server). What's the trick to getting the servlet containers running?? All I find in Oracle documentation is that these must be running before you can do anything, but I don't find anything on troubleshooting when they are not running.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem as you did.
I've tried pushing the button Go in the Oracle Workflow Manager - Service Components.
    And it showed
    An error has occurred!
The Service Component Container is not running.
Should I uninstall my Oracle Workflow?
And install a new installation of Oracle Workflow?
What does it mean by the "wfinstall"?
Is it the Oracle Workflow Configuration Assistant? which I can access using the wfinstall.bat.
Or should I replay the Oracle Workflow Configuration Assistant (wfinstall.bat) and choose Upgrade option?
Or should I uninstall all of my Oracle installation and start installing from the beginning?
BTW, what if I don't use (or have) OID?
    Is it required?
    Any clue would be grateful.
    Thanks.

  • Help... Installing Standalone Workflow

    Help... please...
I would like to install ORACLE*WORKFLOW on my pc.. running Windows/2000...
I have downloaded from OTN... from the following web-site.. http://otn.oracle.com/software/index.html
    Oracle9i Developer Suite
    Oracle9i Application Server
Is that ALL I need to install in order to run WF builder and have access to the web-pages that support WF...
SUCH as... the NOTIFICATION WEB-PAGE and the Oracle Workflow HOME page... so view the all activities (funcations/notifications/processes... etc...)
IS there something else that I need... ?
I have installed these (2) products... but, I am missing something... as I can not access the notification system or the web-pages where I can view everthing once a process has started...

    Hi Frank,
I've installed my workflow client from the oracle DB installation CD (start universial installer, install client, custom type, then you get to choose oracle workflow client).
Besides this you need the server part of the workflow (again universal installer, server instllation, custom, select components, click workflow). With this you'll also need http server, java option etc, but it'll be chosen automatically. Server installation is quite complex.
    HTH,

  • Workflow webpage for Standalone problem

I'm having problems getting Standalone workflow setup. I see references in the documentation that the first thing to do is Set Global User Preferences. To do that connect to <webagent>/wfa_html.home How do I get a website for
workflow? I have apache running as part of the database install, but I don't even have this page on my server.
    Let me explain my environment.
I'm using 9.2.0.3.0 on linux. I had installed the service pack 2 previously when working with XML. I did not install oracle workflow previously.
I launched the installer and went to the integration section, selected Custom and selected ORacle worflow and Oracle Internet Directory which was automatically selected.
Install went fine until workflow configuration reached Oracle Workflow XML Loader 2.6.2, at which point it hung.
The schema for workflow is there. Did the webpages for
workflow not install because of the incomplete configuration?
Is the fact that I have possibly newer database version of
XML causing a problem with the config?
Anything I can do about this?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
I'm using workflow stand alone too, so I´l try to help U.
The workflow web page runs over the workflow's database based on modpls technology.
When U install the workflow server many packages are installed at database, some of then was written with htp.<comand> to be turned in Web Pages using modpls.
So, U have to do the followng steps:
    At server workflow
    install the workflow server
create a DAD (the http of Apache server oracle services must be running, access http://localhost:8080/ so use hiperlink mod plsql Configuration Menu and after this the link DAD settings, create your DAD)
acess the workflow web page to configure Global preferences and test processes (http://localhost:8080/pls/yourdad/wfa_html.home
    At PC client
install the workflow builder to design your own processes
    upload your processes to database.
Search the document a87449.pdf and execute steps o 2nd chapter.
I hope it will help U,

  • Workflow mailer for workflow 2.6.2 Standalone on windows 2000 server?

    Hi All,
Any idea, which mailer is an option on above config?
I am running into problems, trying to configure with MAPI and
Sendmail is not an option (am not on unix).
Saw article about how to configure for SMTP (java based mailer) but
it talks about 11i alone, and I do NOT have 11i, just standalone workflow 2.6.2.
U think, I am running into a brick wall or are there any options possible?
    TIA,
    Deepak

  • Error while calling Workflow APIs remotely

I have standalone workflow engine. I have created views and workflow packages in another databases. These packages are calling workflow APIs internally using DB Link. I call these packages inside Powerbuilder. I start process from the PowerBuilder, process started successfully. User responded to the notification by logging into powerbuilder, it is also successful.
But when user responds to last notification to END the process, I am getting following error:
ORA-02074: cannot ROLLBACK in a distributed transaction
    ORA-06512: at "OWF_MGR.WF_ENGINE_UTIL", line 1263
ORA-02074: cannot SET SAVEPOINT in a distributed transaction
Is it wrong to call Workflow APIs remotely ? Any solution ?
    Regards

    Hi,
I think, we had the same problem and was resolved by the following approach:
    1. define the external function call within one transaction unit...can use pragma.
    2. commit the transaction and then close the DB link using alter session....

  • How to use java api for function activity in embed oracle workflow?

because i can't install standalone oracle workflow successfully.
pls tell me how to use java api for function activity in embed oracle workflow?

The Java Function Activity Agent is not certified for Oracle Workflow embedded in Oracle Applications. Installing standalone workflow should be a lot easier than what you have found, although it looks like you did hit a Pentium 4 issue with the Oracle Universal Installer. I suggest you contact Oracle Support or Oracle Consulting for assistance.

  • Workflow 2.5

We currently have Workflow 2.5 and will move to 2.6 shortly. We were informed that 2.5 is no longer supported.
    1. When did Oracle stopped supporting 2.5?
    2. What is the latest version of Workflow and when is the latest version going to be released?
    3. What is the disadvantages of not moving to Workflow 2.6 aside from support perspective?
    4. Is the migration transparent or requires some redevelopment and full regression testing?

    Hi John
For standalone Workflow (workflow shipped with Database or iAS Products), Workflow 2.5 will be supported until around the end of this year - there is a desupport notice on Metalink). So
    1) We still support version 2.5.
    2) Latest version if Workflow 2.6.1 on 9i. 2.6.2 will be released in the next DB/iAS releases.
    3) Additional functionality - such as the Business Event System - critical for integration only available will only be available in Workflow 2.6 and beyond. Obviously we suggest you plan on upgrading to Workflow 2.6 over the next 10-11 months.
    4) Migration should be transparent - you shouldn't have to make any code changes. Any issues with the upgrade can be resolved with Oracle Support.
Oracle Applications 11i customers have been upgrading from Workflow 11i/2.5 to Workflow 11i/2.6 for about 6 months with very few issues. You have to figure that Apps has some of the most complex workflows with lots of code, so if it can go well for Apps customers, it should go well for standalone customers. Also, some of our large standalone customers have also upgraded to Workflow 2.6.
    Cheers

  • How to Launch Workflow?

    Hi Guys ,
I have created a custom workflow in workflow builder that will simply sent a message to next user.i call it from standalone workflow it is working well but when i am calling it from oracle form that is registered in applications it is not generating any notifications .How i can diagnose ?i executed this procedure directly from database but it is not iniating any workflow.
below is the procedure that i written .
create or replace package body XX_WF__PKG is
    procedure test1(pitemtype varchar2,pitemkey varchar2,pprocess varchar2)
    is
    begin
    wf_engine.LaunchProcess
    (itemtype=>pitemtype,
    itemkey=>pitemkey,
    process=>pprocess
    WF_ENGINE.SetItemAttrText(pitemtype,
    pitemkey,
    'TO',
    'USERSK'
    exception
    when others then
    wf_core.context('xx_wf__pkg','CREATE_MC_MESSAGE',pitemtype,pitemkey,'','');
    raise;
    end;
    end XX_WF__PKG;
    Kindly guide me.

Please look at using this class
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.OANavigation
This class provides Java wrappers for Oracle Workflow Engine's PL/SQL APIs.
There are methods like startProcess and createProcess in this class.
Let me know if this works.

  • Workflow definitions disappear

    Hi,
All my workflow definitions built over the last few hours using the standalone Workflow Builder 2.6.3 have mysteriously disappeared.
Whan I opened the wft, there was nothing there !! Even under Show/Hide Item Types, both the lists are empty.
Is it possible to recover my work ??
    Please help...
    Regards,
    Rahul.

    Hello,
We (or at least me) have not come across such a behavior before, but I do have a habit of saving often - whether it is a word document or workflow definition.
However, to understand why this may be happening - the flow definition during constructing all resides in memory. So, if the PC is running low on memory and has any other OS related issues, it may be raising some fault which are not handled by the builder.
So, adding an auto-save feature in the next generation of builder will be good idea i guess!!
    Cheers,
    Raja

  • Workflow Deployment

Firstly, I'm not having a problem but have an organizational/deployment concern under the following environment:
    - SOA Suite 10.1.3.1
    - JDeveloper 10.1.3.1
    - As a developer I only have access to developer tools and development servers
I'm trying to find a method to use a human task in a BPEL process that does not generate an stand-alone workflow application that is deployed to the application server. Ideally I'd like to use a XSL to display the task information in a read-only form within the work list manager. This still generates a standalone workflow application that must be deployed for basically one file.
It is annoying that I have to have all these little workflows littering the application server. I've tried looking for the workflow EAR in the bpel output folder and it is not retained. So as a result I can't just create a simple package with an application EAR (including workflow modules), and BPEL JAR to deploy to production. I have to deploy the BPEL process to the development server, find the workflow EAR file on the server and copy it back over so I can have someone deploy to production.
So I'm looking for one of two solutions:
    1) A way to use XSL on tasks within the work list manager without having to deploy standalone workflow applications, or
    2) A way to prevent workflows from deploying to the server but rather deploy to a WAR file which can be included in an application-wide EAR file.
Sorry for being long winded. In summary I've automated of the application and BPEL processes using ANT scripts but it is unacceptable to be required to deploy workflows as stand-alone applications instead of as modules within an application.
    Any help would be great.

    Hi,
Please post the question to the OWB forum for the recommended, certified configurations for the usage of Oracle Workflow with OWB.

  • Workflow Processes in OWB10g

Looking forward to the forthcoming release of OWB10g, but I am surprised to see that the 10g database is missing workflow. Does this mean that OWB10g will require a 9i OEM home with 9i (2.6.2 standalone) workflow installed in order to execute processes for a 10g database target?

The release notes for 10g say that workflow is not included in the current 10g release. I have not received reponses from Oracle either through the workflow forum or through Metalink regarding the absence of workflow.
What specifically does the missing workflow mean for the forthcoming release of OWB10g? Is OWB10g designed to provide the ability to install its repository into a 10g database, and use the 10g enterprise manager for scheduled mappings? Or will OWB10g require the installation of the OWB repository into a 9i database and use only a 9i enterprise manager with workflow availability for scheduling mappings and processes targeted to a 10g database?
This distinction makes a big difference in both number and type of databases (or app servers) required to operate OWB on a 10g target - hence my persistence.
The missing workflow functionality in 10g seems potentially like a really big issue for OWB. A 10g based datawarehouse could potentially require an additional 9i license and instance in order to use OWB - increasing cost and complexity until this is resolved some far off time in the future with R2 release of 10g and OWB10g. This could argue well against the adoption of the 10g database for datawarehousing if ETL is based on OWB.
I'd really like to hear that my concern is baseless.
