Standard notation

Hi all,
is there an accepted standard for coding in Java, in terms of layout, whitespace etc? I have developed my own practices over the years, and notice that many of my colleagues use a different style, but there isn't one consistent one so I don't know who's right or wrong.
For example I always code like this:
for(int i=0; i<10; i++){
        doSomething();
}whereas my colleague might write
for ( int i = 0; i < 10; i ++ )
        doSomething () ;
}Just interested to see what is considered correct.

An argument for using 80 character line length is that some older text terminals cannot wrap lines longer than 80 characters. This sounds anachronistic to me, but I felt the next logical size was 132 characters which is the next biggest size for many terminals. It also seems to be a more satisfactory number.
BTW: My favourite number is 128, but this didn't seem like a good reason to choose it. (But probably as good a reason as any :)

  • Is there a notation for designing planning hierarchies/architectures?

    Hi everyone,
    I wonder if there is a standard notation for designing planning hierarchies/architectures.
    When designing BW InfoCubes, I can use ME/RM or ERM for conceptual design and SAP Star Schema for logical design. Is there anything similar for designing planning hierarchies/architectures?
    Best regards, Dan

    The first highly limited version of the native Android viewer should be available in the next release v28. While it will support phones, it will be limited in its feature set. Over the next several releases, more overlays and other features will be added to the native viewer.

  • How to get correct  note notation in score?

    The problem, in a nutshell, is that in some cases (see below) half notes are represented in the score as tied quarter notes, and I can't seem to do anything to change it.
    Here's the piano roll of the first measure (V - V7 - I). This is 4/4 time. Note the combined quarter and half notes in the first two beats, and half notes only in the last two beats of the measure.
    Here is the corresponding score.
    Note that the B and D are tied quarter notes. (With some quantizations, this can really get ugly.) I want them to be half notes, which is standard notation. Is there any way to do this?
    FYI, here is the top part of the score inspector:
    Thanks

    Hi
    You need to use a polyphonic Staff Style to do this:
    Individual notes are assigned to the voices by MIDI channel. You can do this with the Voice Separation tool, in the Event list or by key command.

  • Is there a way to sort a table by a column of scripture references?

    Here's some sample data:
    Book
    Reference
    Genesis
    1:2
    Genesis
    1:26
    Genesis
    1:6-19
    Genesis
    1:6-8
    Genesis
    12:1
    Genesis
    12:3
    Genesis
    2:2
    My table has certain references from all the books of the Bible (sans Apocrypha), so it's prohibitively hefty, but this gives you a few of my problems:
    It's really hard to sort by books, as they weren't included in the canon in, um, alphabetical order. But I can get around that.
    The verses (the numbers after the colon in the Reference column) are sorted in A-Z style, which is where the bulk of my problem is:
    All chapters beginning with "1" will sort ahead of chapter 2... this is a problem.
    All verses that begin with a lower ordinal will precede any verse that begins with a higher one--in the example above, "26" sorts ahead of "6-19".
    It may be that I'm asking too much of Numbers' built-in sorting tool... any ideas on how I can straighten this out? Short of breaking the chapters and verses apart, of course... I have like 9,000 rows to this table and am not really keen on breaking that format up if I can avoid it, though I'm thinking I won't be able to.
    Thoughts?

    Hi Mikey,
    Numbers sorts numbers in numerical order, and text in 'alphabetical order'.
    You can sort books into the order they appear by adding a column containing a number equivalent to the book's position in the Book.
    Chapter and verse can be handled in several ways:
    Separate book, chapter and verse into four columns. book in two columns (number in the first, name in the second), chapter (as a number) in the third, verse (as a number) in the fourth.
    A three stage sort, on book number, then on chapter number, then on verse number will then put everything back in the original order. Note that a 'three stage sort' is NOT the same as 'three single rule sorts'.
    First two columns as above, chapter and verse combined in column 3. This will require a change in your chapter:verse notation. Here are two possibilities:
    1. Use a numeric notation, replacing the colon with a decimal point. Add one or two leading zeroes to the verse part (after the decimal) to maintain three places after the decimal..
    2. Use text notation, retaining the colon separator. pad the chapter number and the verse number with leading zeroes to maintain three digits before and after the colon.
    (Three places are needed before the colon to allow for the 150 'chapters' in Psalms. Two will be sufficient after the colon unless there is a chapter with more than 99 verses. Unnumbered verses may be accommodated by appending a letter to the number for the past numbered verse (in the text notation), or by extending the decimal part by one digit (for up to nine unnumbered verses in sequence, or by two digits for sequences containing more then nine, but fewer that 100 unnumbered verses. I didn't do a search to determine which of these would be necessary.
    Either of the C&V notations above could be constructed from the 'standard' notation using a formula, and placed in a column which may be hidden, and used only for sorting.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Telling ID CS5 to seek a linked file in the current folder

    For at least 5 years (and all the versions of ID), I've been unable to set up a link on text or a graphic that, when clicked, will open another PDF, because I want Acrobat Reader to look for the new PDF file in the same folder/directory as the current PDF.
    For all those years, my workaround has been to create the PDF and then in Acrobat use the Link tool (Tools > Advanced Editing > Link Tool) to select a rectangle over the text or graphic and set up a link to the file in the current directory. When I do the link this way, then save the PDF, then move the PDF to a different computer, Acrobat Reader can find the file in the current directory, even though the explicit path in the link is to a directory that does not exist on this second computer.
    So, today, I thought I'd see whether ID CS5 now sets up what I want. I selected some text, selected New Hyperlink from the Hyperlinks menu, told it I wanted to open a file. I have tried two seperate ways to describe the file, neither of which allows Acrobat Reader to correctly find the file:
    I browsed to the file (mnd.pdf) in the current directory where both the x.indd file is and the x.pdf file will be. When I take the finished x.pdf file to a new computer and click on the link, Reader puts up an error it cannot find the file, and it names the explicit path from the first computer (which intentionally does not exist on the second computer).
    I typed in ".\mnd.pdf" as the standard notation meaning to look in the current directory. In this case, Reader on the second computer does not put up an error, but no file opens. Basically, nothing happens when I click on the link (except for the warning asking me wheher I want to allow this operation).
    Bottom line questions: How can I set up a link in ID CS5 that will always look for a file named "MND.pdf" and always in the same directory as the currently open PDF? I know I can make it happen in Acrobat 9, but it's inefficient to have to set up the link every time I re-create a PDF instead of once in the InDesign file.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi, Jongware,
    It is a bug since CS4, agravated in CS5, because until CS3 it worked very well.
    In fact, it worked through out a lot of pages. I think this was not created only to pages side-by-side but in fact to those articles that continued several pages ahead. So, in a magazine, when one has to break an article and continue this article in other page, one could (and still can) put a text frame in the of the first part of the article and type "Continue on [next page marker]". Then link this text frame with a new text frame on the page where the article continues, (on top of 2nd part of the article) and type "Continued from [previous page marker]".
    This situation – where text frames are in the document pages – still works fine.
    The problem is when this is a constant and you want to put it in master pages, and now it simply does't work. I mean, when every odd or even pages have both numbers. For me, it's a major problem, because several of my clients just love this!
    Is anyone of Adobe reading this? Are you going to help us and fix this problem, please?...

  • Spry Menu not working correctly

    Hopefully this is the right part of the forum to post this question, if not, I apologize.
    I have created a site in dreamweaver and am using a single Spry Menu Bar. I have read tons of forum postings about Drop down menus not working in IE, however, mine don't work in any browser or in the Live View either. I have a feeling it has something to do with either the div containing the menu bar or the sizing, but I can't tell.  Please help.

    Any help is appreciated.

    You do not have a constructor for the menu bar as in
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var MenuBar1 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar("MenuBar1", {imgDown:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarDownHover.gif", imgRight:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    </script>
    There are too many mistakes in the JS outside of the Spry Menu Bar. Have a look at the following which includes all errors, not just the JS
    Validation Output:   117 Errors
      Line 21, Column 38: character "&" is the first character of a delimiter but occurred as data   var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=… ✉
    This message may appear in several cases:
    You tried to include the "<" character in your page: you should escape it as "&lt;"
    You used an unescaped ampersand "&": this may be valid in some contexts, but it is recommended to use "&amp;", which is always safe.
    Another possibility is that you forgot to close quotes in a previous tag.
      Line 21, Column 40: cannot generate system identifier for general entity "i" … var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=… ✉
    An entity reference was found in the document, but there is no reference by that name defined. Often this is caused by misspelling the reference name, unencoded ampersands, or by leaving off the trailing semicolon (;). The most common cause of this error is unencoded ampersands in URLs as described by the WDG in "Ampersands in URLs".
    Entity references start with an ampersand (&) and end with a semicolon (;). If you want to use a literal ampersand in your document you must encode it as "&amp;" (even inside URLs!). Be careful to end entity references with a semicolon or your entity reference may get interpreted in connection with the following text. Also keep in mind that named entity references are case-sensitive; &Aelig; and &aelig; are different characters.
    If this error appears in some markup generated by PHP's session handling code, this article has explanations and solutions to your problem.
    Note that in most documents, errors related to entity references will trigger up to 5 separate messages from the Validator. Usually these will all disappear when the original problem is fixed.
      Line 21, Column 40: general entity "i" not defined and no default entity … var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=… ✉
    This is usually a cascading error caused by a an undefined entity reference or use of an unencoded ampersand (&) in an URL or body text. See the previous message for further details.
      Line 21, Column 41: reference not terminated by REFC delimiter …var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=x… ✉
    If you meant to include an entity that starts with "&", then you should terminate it with ";".  Another reason for this error message is that you inadvertently created an entity by failing to escape an "&" character just before this text.
      Line 21, Column 41: reference to entity "i" for which no system identifier could be generated …var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=x… ✉

    You have used the element named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not define an element of that name. This error is often caused by:
    incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Frameset" document type to get the "<frameset>" element),
    by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "<spacer>" or "<marquee>" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead).
    by using upper-case tags in XHTML (in XHTML attributes and elements must be all lower-case).
      Line 21, Column 51: character "&" is the first character of a delimiter but occurred as data …,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=x.oSrc; ✉

  • Function TermString

    Hi,
    I am modifying an existing Crystal Reports Report in which the function TermString is being used and use Crystal Reports 2008. I cannot find any information about this function in "Help". The standard notation is TermString(<number>,"Text"). Can somebody explain me what <number> indicates ?
    Thanks.

    Look on the old system for files called U2l&.dll or CRUFL*.dll. Those are the customer function dll's somebody wrote. You can copy them over to get them to work on your new PC.

  • Passing array to function

    I'm trying to use the code below to convert an array of numbers in scientific notation to standard notation. The conversion code itself works, but when trying to pass an array of numbers to the function, it's not receiving anything. Returning the "theArray" array gives me an empty array. What am I doing wrong?
    Here's the applicable code:
    set convertedArray to my deScience(myArray)
    on deScience(theArray)
    set s to 1
    set deScienceArray to {}
    repeat length of theArray times
    set testNumber to my round_truncate(item s of theArray, 6)
    if testNumber contains ".-" then
    set x to the offset of "." in testNumber
    set partOne to characters 1 thru (x) of testNumber as string
    set partTwo to characters (x + 2) thru length of testNumber as string
    set the combinedNumber to partOne & partTwo
    set s to s + 1
    set end of the deScienceArray to testNumber
    end if
    end repeat
    return the deScienceArray
    end deScience

    It would help if you included an example of the input values you're passing in (e.g. are you passing in text objects or real numbers?
    For example, unless your round_truncate() handler takes care of the coercion, the following would likely return different results:
    set myArray to {"1.23456E+5"} -- text object
    set myArray to {1.23456E+5} -- scientific notation
    set myArray to {123456.0} -- real number

  • Basic question from a new buyer

    Hi everybody,
    As a lifelong musician, I've used "Finale" in the past, to generate music based on musical notation as the input. From Apple's ads for Logic Express, it's not clear to me if music can be entered that way. (although it looks like it can be output that way) Can I write music using standard notation in Logic Express?
    Thanks in advance.

    I also am very comfortable working with notation. You may have figured it out by now, but below the Arrange area is the Editor window. One of the buttons is labeled "Score", and clicking that gives you a notation window. When that is open, a Part Box also opens on the left of the screen, and you can drag and drop items from there onto the score. There are also keyboard shortcuts, and it's worth digging around in the manual a little bit to find out about how to work in this editor. It's very versatile, and I use it all the time.
    Happy writing!

  • Implementation of a parse tree in java (HELP!!!)

    I want to be able to do this in java, please how can i implement this.
         +
              a *
              b c

    It's not entirely clear what you want to do. That expression in infix notation (standard notation) would be "(b a c) + *" which doesn't make any sense. The leaves of the tree should be values, and non-leaf nodes should be operators. You can implement this by using a tree datatype in Java.

    1.0E7
    HOW CAN WE AVOID ROUNDING OFF,
    & retaining the standard notation(not scientific)

    the problem:
    Any idea on auto ROUNDING OFF
    is the number of SIGNIFICANT DIGITS in float
    restricted to 8?Float numbers ARE automatically rounded off. But the rounding takes place in the binary representation, not the decimal representation. If you want to control rounding of decimal numbers, then use a BigDecimal object. It lets you control rounding in several different ways. And the accuracy of a float number is about 7 or 8 digits in decimal, yes. If you use double numbers, you will get significantly better accuracy.
    would it help if I tried a JVM diff from SUN
    as Jikes???No. Java is standardized. You should get the same results from all JVMs.

  • Can I create my own attributes in iDS?

    I know to store my photo I can use the jpegPhoto attribute, but what about if I want to store other binary objects like maybe my fingerprints, can I create my own attributes for it, and how?
    Or I can't do that?

    You can use Directory Server Console to create new attributes. After adding new attributes to your schema, you must create a new object class to contain them.
    Creating object class:
    1.Click Create on the Object Classes tab.
    2.Enter a unique name for the object class in the Name text box.
    3.Enter an object identifier for the new object class in the OID (Optional) text box.
    4.Select a parent object for the object class from the Parent drop-down menu.
    5.To add an attribute that must be present in entries that use the new object class,highlight the attribute in the Available Attributes list and then click the Add
    button to the left of the Required Attributes box.
    6.To add an attribute that may be present in entries that use the new object class,highlight the attribute in the Available Attributes list and then click the Add
    button to the left of the Allowed Attributes box.
    7.To remove an attribute that you previously added, highlight the attribute in the Required Attributes list or the Allowed Attributes list and then click the
    corresponding Remove button.You cannot remove either allowed or required attributes that are inherited
    from the parent object classes.
    8.Click to OK.
    To create a new attribute:
    1. Display the Attributes tab.
    2. Click Create.
    The Create Attribute dialog box is displayed.
    3. Enter a unique name for the attribute in the Attribute Name text box.
    4. Enter an object identifier for the attribute in the Attribute OID (Optional) text box.
    5. Select a syntax that describes the data to be held by the attribute from the Syntax drop-down menu.
    6. If you want the attribute to be multi-valued,select the Multi-Valued checkbox.The Directory Server allows more than one instance of a multi-valued attribute
    per entry.
    7.Click OK
    This is repersenting binary data.
    You can represent binary data, such as a JPEG image, in LDIF using one of the following methods:
    The standard LDIF notation, the lesser than (<) symbol. For example:
    jpegphoto: < file:/path/to/photo
    If you use this standard notation, you do not need to specify the ldapmodify -b parameter. However, you must add the following line to the beginning of your LDIF file, or your LDIF update statements:
    version:1
    For example, you could use the following ldapmodify command:
    prompt% ldapmodify -D userDN -w user_passwd
    version: 1
    dn: cn=Barney Fife,ou=People,dc=siroe,dc=comchangetype: modify
    add: userCertificate
    userCertificate;binary:< file: BarneysCert
    Using base 64 encoding. You identify base 64 encoded data by using the ::
    symbol. For example:
    jpegPhoto:: encoded_data
    In addition to binary data, other values that must be base 64-encoded include:
    Any value that begins with a semicolon (;) or a space
    Any value that contains non-ASCII data, including new lines Use the ldif command-line utility with the -b parameter to convert binary data to LDIF format:
    ldif -b attribute_name
    where attribute_name is the name of the attribute to which you are supplying the binary data. The binary data is read from standard input and the results are written to standard output. Thus, you should use redirection operators to select input and output files.
    The ldif command-line utility will take any input and format it with the correct line continuation and appropriate attribute information. The ldif utility also assesses whether the input requires base 64 encoding. For example:
    ldif -b jpegPhoto < mark.jpg > out.ldif
    This example takes a binary file containing a JPEG-formatted image and converts it into LDIF format for the attribute named jpegPhoto. The output is saved to
    out.ldif.
    The -b option specifies that the ldif utility should interpret the entire input as a single binary value. If -b is not present, each line is considered to be a separate input value.

  • Indirect rate to be put as Direct rate in TCURR in the past?

    Hi,
    We used to store all the rates as direct from 2001 to 2003 but then after 2003-2014 we started using indirect rates for most of the currencies. What if we put indirect rates instead of the direct rates in TCURR from 2001-2003? I tried to put the indirect rates from 2001-2003 in TCURR(OB08) in the test system  and they appear red, probably because OBBS settings have not been changed.
    What is the impact of changing a direct rate to an indirect rate of the past dates...we are not going to change the current rate from 2003 till 2014.
    Please advise.

    Dear Teejay,
    kindly take a look on Note 783877 - Currency translation: FAQ - especially on part "V. Customizing changes":
    2. What should I consider if I want to change the standard notation from direct to indirect quotation, or vice-versa?
    The system uses the standard notation to decide if it should determine and propose a directly or indirectly quoted exchange rate from the rates stored in TCURR for exchange rate types with a reference currency (table TCURV-BWAER is filled). In spite of this, you can enter a directly or indirectly quoted exchange rate in a posting transaction
    Adjustments are therefore non-critical.
    Best regards,
    Vera
