Standby Database, Java Stack

We have a standby database running on a secondary host.
The primary host name and the secondary host name are different.
Our system is an ECC 6.0, running ABAP + Java add-in.
The Java part contained in filesystem (/usr/sap/<SID>/DVEMBGS00/J2EE) is not refreshed onto the secondary host, since it is not contained in the database.
How could we refresh these changes onto the secondary host (for instance, new java developments, or standard patches) ?
-We can not copy this filesystem from the primary host into the secondary host, since hostnames differ, -and host name change is not supported for a productive environment
-We are exporting this information from time to time, and we plan to import it if we had to promote the secondary host into primary host, afer having opened the standby database.
Is there an easier way to have standby database high availability, for ABAP+JAVA systems?
In case the primary host name and the secondary host name would have been the same, could we just copy the /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEMBGS00/J2EE directory across machines? (that is to say, backup up + restore, instead of export + import)

Eva,
The first step is to convert your ABAP+Java instance to use logical hostname instead of the physical hostname. You have to change ABAP profiles to use logical hostname (ABAP is relatively easy) and export/import java with the the logical hostname using the system copy process.
Now if your standby host is in the same datacenter, you can cross mount all your application file systems (/sapmnt/<SID>. /usr/sap/<SID> etc) on the standby host. I am assuming your application file systems are on external storage. If your standby host is in a different location, you need a process to copy the file systems to remote site. You can use backup/restore or use a replication process to replicate file systems (like NAS replication). You have to make sure the system is offline to copy the files specially the J2EE related files.

    This is a TNS error. The system is not able to connect TNS by using br*tools.
    Firstly, check your environment variables. They should be as same as java system environmnt variables.
    Secondly, check the link below;
    [BR0301W SQL error -1017;
    You need to create a synonym and SAPUSER table for the gateway installation <sid>adm user on Java database. By doing so, br*tools will be able to connect to the java database.

    Script has to be run from auxiliary.
    Great details, but what I don't see is how you connect in RMAN.
    Example

    Generally for active duplication I start the future standby on a pfile NOMOUNT.

    DB_BLOCK_SIZE
    ( add extra parameters like DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT instead of using the SET command - clean up standby spfile right after duplication )
    Then start RMAN and finally run a single line duplication command.
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@primary auxiliary=sys/@standby

    Dear Gurus,
    We are going for Netweaver 7.0 EHP1  BW-BO implementation. We are going to install the seperate instances for the abap and java  for the BW landscape . We are going to install DEV abap and java on the same host.
    Abap stack is installed.
    while going throug the installation,I have two questions
    1) Installation of Database instance (Java Stack)  in the existing Database instace (Abap Stack). Or Go with the different database for the Java stack.
    2)In the installation phase it will ask for the User management Engine configuration.
       a) Java engine ( if i go with this option how the abap and java will have communication)
       b) Abap (communication happens between abap and java using rfc connections)
    Go with which option.
    i will go with the opton java engine. How make the communication between abap and java. Pleae reply soon.

    I will recommend to have different database for your Java system. Because if you will take same database then it will be MCOD installation. And MCOD has a lot of limitations like if your ABAP system is down then Java will also be down and performance problem etc.

    If you will take UME of your java system as Java system only. Then ABAP and Java system will communicate with JCO RFC. I will go with option a if there are no constraints.
    If UME will be ABAP system then also communication will be through RFC only.

  • JAVA Stack installation's method for BI 7.0 (Netweaver 04s)

    Hello!
    We plan to upgrade our BW 3.5 (without java stack) to BI 7.0 which need a java stack installation.
    In this case we have, first, to upgrade the abap stack and then we have to install the  java stack .
    There are 3 possibilities to install the java stack : as java-addin in the same database that the abap stack , or as the recommanded
    SAP 'method i.e. a java installation with its own  database , that means another instance , and I think a new license to buy.
    The third method is a second server to support the java stack with its own database (separate instance).
    I don't understand why the second and third methods are recommanded , rather than the first.
    Is it related to the SAP  Enterprise Portal  ??; (we don't use it at the moment) , or for other reasons?? Thanks..

    In the event of double-stack or shared installations, ABAP and JAVA compete for main memory and CPU resources. Since BI 7.0 is resource intensive, it is advisable to install AS-Java on a different machine.

    Generally for the connection to work you need to add something like this to the listener.ora file :

    I have set the agent perl script tracing to DEBUG, but can't find any reason, why the job preparation failed.

  • Standby database from RMAN backup

    I have been assigned to create a standby database from our RMAN backups in a different machine, as this is my first attempt at recovering, I am struggling a bit. I would appreciate if someone can throw any light on what dumb mistakeI am doing here. I ahve absolutely no control over the back up script which is done by my vendor, but can do anything in the reocvery portion. I did try going through the documentaiton and other help available for the last 2 days.
    Database : Oracle 10G R2
    OS : Windows Server 2003

    I don't see ArchiveLog backups being done by the vendor's script. How do you backup the ArchiveLogs ?
    In your post you state that you have copied the ArchiveLogs. Are they copied to the same log_archive_dest location ? RMAN needs to be "aware" of them. You can use the "CATALOG" command in RMAN to register them into the controlfile.

    A Standby Database uses a Standby Controlfile which is created from the Primary (with the "ALTER DATABASE CREATE STANDBY CONTROLFILE AS 'locaion';" command) and then copied over to the Standby server.

    Hi, the value of db_recovery_file_dest parameter is invalid,set this properly value(path) for this parameter and try again.

    Note : You cannot register the same database -- ie Production and Standby have the same DBID -- twice in a catalog.
    Yet your catalog reports that the database is not registered.
    Seemingly, Production is registered to a different catalog OR is not registered at all.
    If using the same Catalog you should
    a. NOT register the Standby
    b. STOP recovery on the Standby
    c. MOUNT STANDBY on the Standby
    and then RMAN BACKUP the Standby
    Once the Backup is completed, restart Recovery on the Standby.

    I have a nagging doubt about the difference between the ABAP stack, ABAP+Java stack & the Java only stack. I believe that the method of applying the kernel for all the 3 types is different.

    AS ABAP is used to provide the ABAP foundation of SAP NetWeaver.
    Part of AS ABAP is the Search Engine Service (SES), which enables users to search for
    business objects using Search and Classification (TREX). SES accesses Search and
    Classification (TREX) functions through the Search and Classification (TREX) ABAP
    client. SES replicates the business objects from the ABAP application to Search and
    Classification (TREX), so that it can apply Search and Classification (TREX) search
    functions to them. When a user enters a search query, the Search and Classification

    Java stack

    I need to install SAP ECC6.0 EHP4 with ABAP+JAVA stack on windiws server 2008 with oracle.
    I have read that for this, we need to install ECC 6.0 EHP4 ready and then upgrade to EHP4 using ehpi installer.
    I have found the documents seperately for ABAP and JAVA stack and not for ABAP+JAVA.
    I need clarifications on these.
    1.Do we need to install ABAP and JAVA instances seperately with EHP4 and then upgrade(In that case I have to install both instances on single host)?
    2.Should we give seperate <SID> for both instances and create seperate databases?
    3.Hard disk requirement for this set up.(We have 150 GB including C drive)
    4.Steps to perform after installing ECC6.0 EHP4 ready
    5.Please send me the doc. if anyone has

  • System Refresh: Abap+Java stack

    Have a few questions about CRM refresh I'm working on. Done many refreshes over the years and the new process has me shaking my head in disbelief.
    Performed a normal system refresh, by restoring online backup of production system onto mirror system. The mirror system exactly matches my production sytem (Oracle 10g, SuSE Linux 64 bit, UNICODE). 
    Now my system is running from Abap stack perspective, however Java components fail to load.
    Now from reading the documentation (System Copy for SAP, Based on SAP Netweaver 2004s Abap+Java) it appears that I have to use sapinst and no longer use online database backups for system refreshes.
    Is this the case? Has the investment my organization made into online backups now worthless?
    Is there a way to take the java schema in this online copied database and bring it online after converting it to work on the mirror landscape?
    Or should I throw out our system methodology and start new

    Reading SAP's documentation seems to imply that I need to extract out the java schema from my production source and then re-install on my QA target to make a refresh of the java stack possible.
    However, if I have a complete copy of my source system database working on the target, why is the extract necessary?
    At least, I should be able to extract out the contents from the source as if it was the target, thereby eliminating any sort of production outages (we have many constraints about shutting down production from fuctional perspective).
    I'll do some research around the other tools mentioned to see if they can lend a hand fixing the issue,
