Start script automatically after place Word text in indesign document

I need start a script, automatically, after plece Word text in indesign document...
It's possible ???

This is how I'd approach it - it captures a 'place' or 'paste' of a blob of text. It is not perfect - it will also 'fire' if you simply copy some text from one frame in the document to an empty frame, but I don't think that would be an issue in most cases.
Create a page item on the pasteboard; use the Active Page Item Developer palette to set the List of Subjects to * (just an asterisk), and the Event Filter to subjectModified* ('subjectModified' with an asterisk appended). Set the attached ExtendScript to the script shown below.
I've not tested this heavily - it's only a proof of concept...
(function(theItem)
  const kKeyForSavedTextLength = "com.rorohiko.savedTextLength";
  do
    var theFrame = theItem.eventSource;
    if (! (theFrame instanceof TextFrame))
      // Not a text frame - bail out
      break;
    var previousTextLength =
      theFrame.getDataStore(
        kKeyForSavedTextLength);
    if (previousTextLength == null)
      previousTextLength = 0;
    if (previousTextLength > 0)
      // Already has text in it - bail out
      break;
    var curTextLength = theFrame.contents.length;
    theFrame.setDataStore(
      kKeyForSavedTextLength,
      curTextLength);
    if (curTextLength == 0)
      // No text in it - bail out
      break;
    alert("Pasted or placed a blob of text");
  while (false);
(theItem));

  • Automatically place images within multiple InDesign documents

    I work for a publishing company of agricultural trade magazines and work on few titles each month. We are trying to streamline our production procedures and previous company I worked for had a script they used to place images within text pages by searching for the file name, however there were some limitations with this script (it would only work within 1 InDesign document and only within 1 InDesign story at a time). The company I am with now breaks out each editorial story into separate InDesign files and we place image boxes when the display ads are going to go. For our purposes now, I am looking for a script that, once all of the image boxes were tagged with the image file names, could search between multiple InDesign documents in a folder and automatically place all the images for us. Is anything like this available or able to be created? If so, would it have the capacity to search between multiple InDesign documents and search the entire document for the image file names? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Kasyan,
    They were tagged using a program called Pathways created by a computer programmer the company used at the time. The issues that I was working on were annual Buyers' Guides so they were mainly just listings and inline graphics. The kinds of issues I work on now are monthly issue with various stories and no inline graphics, but display advertisements. And each story is created and laid out in a separate InDesign document. So I would need a script that can search an entire group of documents for file names and/or image boxes instead of just in one story in one document for inline graphics. (sorry if this is confusing).
    I currently do not have a script to work from and am looking for something new that can be used to save use the time of placing every ad manually.
    Thanks for your help and feedback!

  • Starting OC4J_BI_FORMS automatically after reboot on Win2000

    Does any know how to configure OCJ4_BI_FORMS to startup
    automatically after rebooting on win2000. Now, I'm manually starting the OC4J_BI_FORMS instance, and would like to automate the startup after reboot.
    Thanks in advance

    I think it's controlled by auto-start for your application in %ora9ias_home%\j2ee\OC4J_BI_Forms\config\server.xml.

  • Automatic update from Word source into Indesign

    Hi I have followed all threats and cannot seem to find a solution to my query.
    I have to complete a 280page annual report within a very short period of time. Based on the client it seems that there will be multiple changes on content after layout is completed. Is it possible to import the Word docuement into Indesign and when the client makes changes in the original Word docuement the changes are affected directly in Indesign?
    I had a look at the XML options and discussions but being a lyout designer the explenations of tags etc mean zero.
    Obvioulsy I would re-edit stylesheets and layout styles in Indesign but would ideally then like to export the content / link the content to the original file so that the client can make changes in Word and I do not have to manually re-layout pages or make changes from proofs.
    Please can someone indicate whether this is at all possible and wether you have to have knowledge of scriptig etc should it be possible.
    VERY URGENT RESPONSE PLEASE.

    In the Preferences, you can select to treat a placed Text document just like an image: you get a link in your Links palette, and if the original file is modified, you can "update" it just like an images.
    However: the text will re-import just like it did the very first time -- including the formatting of the text. If you formatted the text in InDesign, that will be lost. A very rigid workflow is the solution in that case: if your editor uses Word Styles, and he did so consequent and correct, you can automatically have them mapped to your styles in the InDesign document. You can actually help your editor getting the good styles by exporting your text to RTF, so he can work on it and then return the document.
    Try before you fly.

  • Is there a way to find text within InDesign documents in a search using windows environment?

    We are working in Windows and transitioning from using Word to InDesign for our documents.  InDesign documents do not show up in the results when trying to search for a file name or file contents. How can we search for specific text within our InDesign documents?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • [InDesign CS3] Unable to place PICT image on InDesign document.

    Hi all,
    I am trying to place a PICT type image on InDesign CS3 document but it is being shown disabled in open dialog. And when I drag this image(PICT type) to InDesign document, I am getting an error message "Quick Time and a TIFF (uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture".
    Note: This problem is coming on both MAC and Windows.
    Thanks in anticipation

    When you place content from InDesign, why are you exporting it as JPG?
    You can either
    save the INDD file and place it directly into InDesign or
    export the INDD as PDF/X-4 and place it into InDesign.
    This should result in better quality than using JPGs which will be always a loss of crispyness, change of colors, blurry text and loss of quality.

  • Arch doesn´t start session automatically after last update

    I think to remember that some ati drivers were updated, but I´m not 100% sure.
    The thing is that Arch start normally, but when it shows the login, it stops. Before the update, the login process was automatic (because the tutorial I followed when I installed it does).
    If I put my login and my password, I enter in console mode normally.
    I tried with
    sudo pacman -Syu
    but the problem goes on.
    Do I have to erase something?
    Thanks and sorry for my English.

    I had the same problem today with my Radeon HD 2600XT, i solved it by downgrading my xf86-video-ati package from 6.14.4-1 back to the old 6.14.3-2 - i suppose there is some better long term solution to this, but this quick-fix did it for me.
    To verify that you did the same upgrade as me, you can check /var/log/pacman.log
    To download the old package (xf86-video-ati 6.14.3-2) you can visit http://schlunix.org/archlinux/
    You should also consider reading https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Do … g_Packages - though I am unsure how updated that article is, maybe someone else could comment on that.
    I have the same problem. I had the 6.14.3-2 version and now the 6.14.4-1.
    Can you explain me (step by step) how did you solve it, please?

  • Start up automatically after a power failure

    It is checked in the settings of OSX, but it is not working on my 2007 Mac Mini.  It does nothing when restoring power after abruptly removing it.
    I am running Boot Camp and it auto boots into Windows 8, but this should not be an issue, as the option should be basically stored in the firmware of the Mac, well before Windows has anything to do with it.
    SH

    Ok, this would explain why it is not working, but am surprised this is how it is set up.
    I mean why would the system care what partition is being used, it should only be concerned with "flipping the switch" as soon as power is received, then POST and everything else including disk selection later...
    It's not like it turns on and says, Windows eh?  forget about it, I'm powering back off...  or does it?  LOL
    I would it assume it to be similar to a PC BIOS where it is a power setting and nothing to do with the disk controller...

    P.S. Any other way to get my system to power up without using the power button?

  • How can I place Tagged Text in InDesign

    I use tagged text in the files I place
    in InDesign. For example,
    <cn>This is the chapter number
    <ct>This is the chapter title
    <cst>This is the chapter subtitle
    <bt>This is the beginning of the body text
    <ah>This is an A-level head
                    and so on. In PageMaker, there was a checkbox in the "place"
    dialogue box named "Read tags." I checked that, and when I placed the file in the template (in which I had the styles defined), the whole chapter appeared with the formatting I wanted for each style.
                    I can't find the equivalent checkbox in InDesign. I can't believe it is no longer there, but search as I do, I can't find it. There is a lot online about exporting tagged text, but where, oh where, is my checkbox for placing tagged text? If someone knows where it is, I'd be very grateful.

  • Lining up text in inDesign document

    This is something I really should have learned quite some time ago , but rather than doing that I have just worked my way around it.
    In a newsletter or whatever type of document (InDesign, CS3, PC), I often have the problem where the text does not line up exactly between 2 or 3 columns and I have to manipulate leading or text wrap around a photo to get it to line up. I have a feeling there is a simplier way to do this. Can someone give directions to me? Does it have to do with the baseline grid?
    Thanks!

    in your paragraph styles you need to set the text to align to grid. In your view options make sure you have show baseline grid on.
    You still may need to play with the text wrap, but not nearly as precisely.

  • Satellite Pro L40 PSL4BE restarts automatically after shutdown

    Hi,
    I have an issue where my laptop starts up automatically after seemingly going into hibernation and shutting down by closing the lid. (I have it configured so it goes into hibernation when i close the lid.)
    The strange thing is that this only happens when it's hooked up to the power supply. If i close the lid when it's on battery power it goes into hibernation and remains shut down as it should.
    This all started when i changed my power scheme from "Balanced" to "Performance". Setting it back to "Balanced" did not help, nor did setting it to the lowest setting. Also, it used to come back out of hibernation automatically after i opened the lid, this no longer happens either.
    I am unsure of whether this is a software or hardware issue.
    Over the weekend i've reinstalled the laptop using the supplied recovery discs and applied all updates and patches for Vista but the problem remains, so now i am leaning more towards it being a hardware issue even though i have no idea what kind of hardware malfunction could be causing this.
    Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this behavior?

    Hello,
    Thanks for the replies. I'm afraid i haven't found any solution yet.
    Over the weekend I installed Ubuntu on this laptop and tried to hibernate but it demonstrated the exact same behaviour as under Vista. it shuts down and like 10 seconds after it boots back up. this leads me to believe that the problem is hardware related in some way. it would surprise me that both vista and a linux distro would have the exact same issues. So now i'm back on the Vista i restored using the restore discs.
    I haven't tried installing a windows xp yet though i suspect i'll have the same issues.
    @Sasha
    The thing is that the problem isn't in windows hibernating or not shutting down when the lid closes. It does that part just fine. What it shouldn't do however is restarting by itself whithout my intervention several seconds after it shut down. no matter the setting, that can't be normal behaviour.
    @borge & Jonnie
    Have any of you already had contact with the toshiba helpdesk on this issue? if so, what did they say? i haven't had the time to call them yet.
    I'll update as i find out more.

    hi,
    Is there a possibility to start tnslsnr automatically after

    pertained to non-Windows systems (as far as I can tell).
    It would save time (at least 10 seconds each time I want to

  • Importing a large amount of text into InDesign (Newbie question!)

    Hello all,
    I am new to InDesign and would really appreciate some tips/advice on how best to transfer a large amount of text from Microsoft Word into an InDesign document. I have been tasked with creating a very simple pocket sized book, the content of which will be a series of business Acronyms (700+) and their defintions (just imagine a very simple dictionary). As you can imagine there is a lot of text in the Microsoft Word document so any advice on how to transfer it all as quickly as possible would be really helpful. Or, as the case may be, would it be simpler to just use another programme?
    Can you paste/import all - or large chunks of - a word document in one go? If I format a master page will Adobe InDesign automatically paste the text into the required number of pages? Or do i have to do it page by page from a clipboard?
    Obviously I am not expecting InDesign to format the text perfectly on each page, I just want to dump it all in one go and then go back and tidy it all up.
    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Matthew

    File > Place.... and navigate to the Word file. Show Import Options to allow you to preserve the Word Formatting, or dump it, or map styles to ne styles in your ID document.
    If you have a text  frame on your master page, put the loaded cursor over the frame area on your document page and watch for the cursor to change so it is surrounded by parentheses, then hold the Shift key and click. If you don't have a master frame (and most experienced users will tell you that more than 90% of the time a master text frame is more hindrence than help if you set your margins correctly), hold the Shift key and click where you want the top of the first column to start.
    In both cases, ID will add pages as required to place the entire document and thread the text through all the frames. If using master frames, they will be linked and overrridden onto the document page automatically, if not, your first frame will start where you click and extend down to the bottom margin and succeeding frames will fill the column guides (hence mention of setting your margins correctly).
    ID is a professional program and you really need to spend some time learning how it works. One good place to start is the Help files. Another is Sandee Cohen's Visual QuickStart Guide to InDesign. If you prefer video training, Lynda.com has good content.

  • How can i replace all parenthesis text in a document ?

    Hi everyone !
    I'm a designer and i know nothing about scripting. But actually i would like to remove a bunch of text.
    I am working on a map, and i need to get rid of all text in parenthesis (the parenthesis included in).
    I know there will be a faster and efficient way to do it by scripting, but i don't know how to get to that.
    please, if someone can help me it would be nice from him/her.
    i'm a kinda worried, because the whole thing is not less than a job for developpers.
    anyway, i had to ask before.
    thx a lot for your responses.

    Hi Paapichan
    You want a script that analyses all the text in the document and remove any text inside parenthesis (including parenthesis) right?
    Let´s explain some problems:
    1. If your text is inside a locked layer or sublayer or it´s locked itself then it would perhaps be necessary first unlocking these (this can be included in JavaScript code).
    2. If you text is inside symbol, or envelope and others...then JavaScript wont be able to acess such structure.
    What´s the version of your Adobe Illustrator?
    Give more infos about the exact scenario perhaps I can help you
    Best Regards
    Gustavo.
