Start Servlet with request at startup

I must work with a Servlet application which only start up at the first HTTP request (its init() method does nothing). I mustn't change its code
Is there any method in Tomcat to initalize this servlet when the Servlet Container starts up?
Or is there any method to determine (not from a property file) the port where this context runs in another Servlet's init() method (to generate a request via URLConnection...)
I tried a
RequestDispatcher disp = getServletConfig().getRequestDispatcher('/path/ThatServlet');
disp.forward(?, ?);but I can't find a properly implemented HttpServlet* class to give a request and response objects to the forward() method.

Use the <load-on-startup> tag and give a positive value to it in your servlet defintiion in web.xml
<servlet>
        <servlet-name>servlet_name</servlet-name>
        <servlet-class> pkg.servlet_class </servlet-class>
        <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>cheers,

  • How to start dhclient with systemd at startup? [SOLVED]

    I have eth0 connected to DHCP server and want to use dhclient instead of dhcpcd. How can I start dhclient with systemd? Is there something similar to
    systemctl enable dhcpcd@eth0
    Last edited by mpelikan (2012-12-18 13:43:28)

    dhcpcd comes in package with completed systemd unit (/usr/lib/systemd/system/dhcpcd.service and /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]) by package developer, but dhclient doesn't.
    mpelikan, you should write your own systemd unit for dhclient for yourself using
    1) dhcpcd units as example
    2) wiki page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … vice_files
    3) man page for dhclient to get the right options
    Also I'm sure I saw somewhere an example of dhclient unit but I can't find it now. Anyway, it was not working out-of-box in Arch.
    I've done this previously but then I've realized disadvantages of dhclient (so I've removed it).
    Firstly, I didn't like how it's working in daemon-mode after some testing.
    Secondly, it depends on deprecated net-tools.
    You should try dhcpcd. If it doesn't work, you can make it work by editing configuration files / kernel options (like switching off IPv6 if you think you have an issues with it) or adding some parameters.

  • Firefox always opens with the last page from previous session. Setting this right (e.g. changing this to start up with blank or startup page) in Options/General, doesn't work.

    Screenshot of the options panel (that doesn't work):

    All these "solutions" that have been offered to go to your settings and set your option to go to home page are 1.) not working and 2.) kind of a"duh". How many of us do you think have been set up like that for a few years now? And yet all of a sudden (i.e. new version of Firefox that apparently needs a little more testing...), this problem is occurring. It's getting really annoying too. We have defined home pages for a reason. Please correct this so we can return to them when we log in.

  • Starting Servlet at Server Startup

    Hi all!
              We are desperately trying to initialize a servlet at weblogic 5.1
              startup.
              When simply registering the servlet it works well.
              Now we tried to set up autostart for the servlet according to the docs
              at http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/classdocs/API_servlet.html#128566:
              <doc>
              # Here we register the myservletclass servlet class
              weblogic.httpd.register.MyServlet=\
              examples.servlets.myservletclass
              # Configure the ServletStartup class to run MyServlet's init()
              # method at startup
              weblogic.system.startupClass.StartMyServlet=\
              weblogic.servlet.utils.ServletStartup
              weblogic.system.startupArgs.StartMyServlet=\
              servlet=MyServlet
              </doc>
              We register our servlet with alias "stest":
              weblogic.httpd.register.stest=our.servlet
              This works well.
              Then we add the startup info:
              weblogic.system.startupClass.Startstest=\
              weblogic.servlet.utils.ServletStartup
              weblogic.system.startupArgs.Startstest=\
              servlet=stest
              But when starting weblogic it says:
              <I> <WebLogicServer> T3StartupDef stest
              weblogic.servlet.utils.ServletStartup reports:servlet: stest
              not found
              What is going wrong here?
              Thanks!

    I do have it load at login so it is different but I do NOT have it running as root, include other environmental variables you do not..

    I have an older iMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. The other day I started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup.
    I can get into safe mode. But no regular startup.
    I tried disabling bluetooth, thinking that might be related. It didn't help.
    I even tried using the install disc to run disc utility. That didn't work so I reloaded the OS.
    But I still get hung on the blue screen when trying a normal startup.
    All help would be appreciated.

    Try resetting the PMU/SMU and PRAM/NVRAM. You'd need to identify the mode of resetting depending on the model of your G5 iMac. The Apple support sites that would help you for this are –

    I hope this solves your problem.

    Hey Carolinearnold!
    I have an article for you that seems to address this issue and can provide some troubleshooting steps for you:

    A few months ago, my power mac G5 began starting up with the address book and mail already open on the desk top.
    Neither of these is in my startup items, so I am at a loss as to stop this behavior.
    Any suggestions?

    Are they in Login items under System Preferences/Users/Login Items?
    In the Dock, right click the Address Book and Mail icons, select Options, and make sure "Open at Login" is not selected.

  • [TOMCAT] [SERVLET] : The requested resource () is not available.

    Hi!! I'm looking for an answer to my problem, and I'm going to explain what I mean.
    I've created a .jar named yuhuuTunnel.jar that has the following structure:
    yuhuuTunnel.jar:
    --> web (contains the servlets)
          --> *.class
          --> HelloWorldServlet.class
    --> META-INF
          --> MANIFEST.MF
    --> SimpleClient.classThe code of HelloWorldServlet.java is this:
        package web;
        import java.io.IOException;
        import java.io.PrintWriter;
        import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet;
        import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
        import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
        import javax.servlet.ServletException;
        import javax.servlet.ServletConfig;
        public class HelloWorldServlet extends HttpServlet {
            public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
                super.init(config);
            public void doGet( HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response )
                    throws ServletException, IOException {
                doPost(request, response);
            public void doPost( HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
                    throws ServletException, IOException {
                response.setContentType("text/html");
                PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
                out.println("<html>");
                out.println("<body>");
                out.println("<body bgcolor=\"white\">");
                out.println("<h1>Yuhuu Servlet!</h1>");
                out.println("</body>");
                out.println("</html>");
        }then, using a .war file (created with ANT), I've created into /../tomcat/webapps/ a directory call yuhuuTunnel that has this structure:
        /webapps/
              --> yuhuuTunnel
                    --> WEB-INF
                            --> web.xml
                            --> lib
                                 --> yuhuuTunnel.jar
                    --> META-INF
                            --> MANIFEST.MF
                                 --> yuhuuTunnel.jar
                    --> index.htmlThe content of web.xml is the following:
        <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

        </web-app>Tomcat works correctly ( http://localhost:8080 return me the page of tomcat ) but when I try to use the HelloWoldServlet typing http://localhost:8080/yuhuuTunnel/HelloWorld into a browser, this one returns me the HTTP Status 404 - The requested resource () is not available.
    What is wrong? The address that I type into the browser or there's an error into web.xml?
    Something interesting: If I type
    http://localhost:8080/yuhuuTunnel/HelloWorld
    the message given back is: "The requested resource () is not available."
    but if I type
    http://localhost:8080/HelloWorld the message is different:
    "The requested resource (/HelloWorld) is not available."

  • Auto Login With Request Parameters

    Hello
    I am working on a test JSF application in NetBeans 5.5 using the visual web pack. Currently there are only two pages in the app, a login page and a main page.
    I am trying to figure out how I could set up an auto login to a JSF based web app. I would like the app to be able to take username and password parameters on the URL and automatically attempt to log into the app with those values. When the URL contains these parameters and they're valid, instead of displaying the login page, it would start up with the main page displayed. If the paramters were not present or invalid, the login page would be displayed.
    I've read about how to pull request parameter values into from a JSP page, but I don't think that would helpful for this case. I have instances of ApplicationBean, SessionBean and RequestBean in the project. I'm wondering if any of these would be the appropriate place to add some code to check for the parameters, attempt to login and display the correct page based on the login result.
    And advice greatly appreciated.
    Shelli

    I'll be so kind to share a basic example I've been playing with a while ago :)
    public class UserFilter implements javax.servlet.Filter {
        @SuppressWarnings("unused")
        private FilterConfig filterConfig;
        public void init(FilterConfig filterConfig) {
            this.filterConfig = filterConfig;
        public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response, FilterChain chain)
            throws IOException, ServletException
            // Check PathInfo.
            HttpServletRequest httpRequest = (HttpServletRequest) request;
            String pathInfo = StringX.trim(httpRequest.getRequestURI(), httpRequest.getContextPath());
            if (pathInfo.indexOf(PATH_INC + "/") == 0 || pathInfo.indexOf(MAIN_JSF) == 0) {
                // If include files are loaded (subviews, images, css, js) or if unfriendly URL is
                // requested somehow, then continue the chain and abort this filter. In case of
                // unfriendly URL's, the next filter in the chain is the FriendlyUrlFilter which
                // translates the URL and will redirect back to this filter.
                chain.doFilter(request, response);
                return;
            // Get UserSession from HttpSession.
            HttpSession session = httpRequest.getSession();
            UserSession userSession = (UserSession) session.getAttribute(SESSION_ID);
            if (userSession == null) {
                // No UserSession found in HttpSession; lookup SessionId in cookie.
                String sessionId = Context.getCookieValue(httpRequest, COOKIE_ID);
                if (sessionId != null) {
                    // SessionId found in cookie; lookup UserSession by SessionId in database.
                    userSession = new UserSession();
                    userSession.setSessionId(sessionId);
                    LoadQuery<UserSession> loadQuery = new LoadQuery<UserSession>(userSession);
                    try {
                        Dao.execute(loadQuery);
                        userSession = loadQuery.getOne(); // This can be null.
                        // If this is null, then session is just deleted from DB or the cookie is fake.
                        Logger.info("Loading usersession succeed: " + userSession);
                    } catch (DaoException e) {
                        Logger.error("Loading usersession failed.", e);
                if (userSession == null) { // loadQuery.getOne() can return null.
                    // No SessionId found in cookie, or no UserSession found in DB; create new UserSession.
                    sessionId = StringX.getUniqueID();
                    userSession = new UserSession(sessionId);
                    try {
                        Dao.execute(new SaveQuery<UserSession>(userSession));
                        Logger.info("Creating usersession succeed:" + userSession);
                    } catch (DaoException e) {
                        Logger.error("Creating usersession failed.", e);
                    // Put SessionId in cookie.
                    HttpServletResponse httpResponse = (HttpServletResponse) response;
                    Context.setCookieValue(httpResponse, COOKIE_ID, sessionId);
                // Set UserSession in current HttpSession.
                session.setAttribute(SESSION_ID, userSession);
            // Add hit and update UserSession.
            userSession.addHit();
            try {
                Dao.execute(new SaveQuery<UserSession>(userSession));
                Logger.info("Updating usersession succeed:" + userSession);
            } catch (DaoException e) {
                Logger.error("Updating usersession failed.", e);
            // Continue filtering.
            chain.doFilter(request, response);
        public void destroy() {
            this.filterConfig = null;
    }By the way, the 'User' DTO is wrapped in the UserSession which can be retrieved in the backing bean by:
    public User getUser() {
        return ((UserSession) Context.getSessionAttribute(SESSION_ID)).getUser();
    }If the User is not logged in, then this is null. If the user is logged in, then put the User in the UserSession object.

    I need help to run servlet automatically when tomcat startup without starting even the application containing the servlet
    thanks in advance

    lol
    i've the same problem with my car,I want it to go ahead but without starting the engine and using all this gasoline...
    Seriously... the servlet IS almost your application
    when you start the server, the application starts to
    check the init() method of the servlet Interface
    and the "load-on-startup" parameter of the servlet in the deployment descriptor

    Thunderbird is up to date and it is on a 64kb intel i7 quad processor 8G ram desktop using windows 7 latest update.

    To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
    *Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

  • Message bean does not start automatically during application server startup

    I have a message bean that does not start up during application server startup. I am able to successfully start the application manually using the visual admin tool.I searched the logs and found the following error. The error references the "QueueConnectionFactory" is not deployed or is not started. I have check and the "QueueConnectiopnFactory" is deployed. Is this a problem with the application trying to start before the "QueueConnectionFactory"? Is thier a way to define a dependency on my application not to start until the "QueueConnectionFactory" has been started, if so can how would I define this dependency. Please provide and example.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    I though the same thing, but XE LISTENER is running on localhost and port 1522. On the other hand XE have local_listener explicitly set to the very same connection descriptor. Even XE installation was second on this server.
    I've could change that yes, but the startup script doesn't seemed to have this mind.

    Hi All,
    we are all very new to SAP MI,
    At the creation of CD we got the problem with Request
    <i><b>Creation of CD</b></i>
    we gave these entries
    <b>1.Mobile Solution Name        :      CIBERNW
    Version                                    :      1001
    Description                              :      Ciber Netweaver Mobile
    Cmponent Type                       :        APPLICATION
    Runtime Enviroment                 :      JSP</b>
    In SyncBO tab we specified our SyncBO that is <b>ZNWW_EX01</b>
    we selected the check two checkboxs that is
                       <b>->SyncBOs Expect Initial Value
                       ->Data Visible to all</b>
    2.when i am trying to <b>save the MCD</b> it will open one dialog box that is
    <b>"Object can only created in SAP Package "</b> -> Continue
           <b>"Link to Transport "</b> it says
    <b>"Include MCD in Transport Request", "Yes","No"</b>
    when i will go for <b>"Yes"</b>
    it will give one more dialog box that is
    <b>"prompt of workbeanch Request"</b>
    it will give one Request bydefault that is <b>"CNWK900030"</b>
    there we have some option that is
         <b> ->Continue
          ->Create Request
          ->Own Request</b>
    which one we will select ?
    i will go for <b>Continue</b> it will open other dialog box it says
    <b>"Include MiniApp in Transport Request"</b>
    it says <b>"MiniApp must be assigned to a transport request"</b>
    i will go for continue it will the message in the status bar
    <b>"MCD Changed"</b>
    can you please tell me this process is Right or wrong
    if it is wrong can you please tell me the right process
    and it will some default Requests which Request we need to select
    or we need to create the Request where we need to create that
    what is process we need to follow ?
    Thanks and Regards

    Every thing is fine. We need to check Link to <b>SAP MI Home page</b> check box

    "MCD Changed"</b>
    In SAP when ever we create any object(tables or MCDs) :
    there are two things CUSTOMER NAME SPACE(stored locally in that system only) and FORIEGN NAME SPACE(can be transported)
    CUSTOMER NAME SPACE objects starts with 'Z' or 'Y'
    FORIEGN NAME SPACE objects starts with any other digit other than 'Z' or 'Y'
    So youhave created MCD name CIBERNW which starts with 'C' (its not customer name space with z or y)
    so it will be stored in package(so that this package can be transported to any other system later)
    So what ever you have done is correct.
    You can create your own request also.
    But confirm once that whether you are supposed to store your MCD this that package.
    <b>
    can you please tell me this process is Right or wrong
    if it is wrong can you please tell me the right process
    and it will some default Requests which Request we need to select
    or we need to create the Request where we need to create that
    what is process we need to follow ?</b>
    So this is the concept of request.
    So this request is nothing but....
    When ever we create tables or MCDs we try to save it..so if we are trying to create objects in Foreign name space(i.e without 'Z' or 'Y' inthe beginning) so it will ask to create this object in a package which requires request(transport request)
    All objects are stored in package,( so this package contains many objects like MCD,SYNBOS etc what ever we store in it) so we can transport this package from one system to another system so to transport we need to generate a transport request for that package and them release that transport request.....
    So once the package is released and we try to edit or create new objects in that package it will ask for some new request.....
    Yes we can create our own request and later release it.
    But in your case u can take up the default request and continue.
    If this MCD is for only testing purpose(for our selfs)..means this MCD is just for our testing sake..its better to create it in Customer name space..starts with 'Z' or 'Y'.
    I hope its clear.
    Cheers,
    Karthick
